Rural population is not having the access to LPG gas stoves.
Rural population canโt afford costly LPG gas stove.
Costs are increasing rapidly as subsidies are going down.
Availability of large biomass is making the wood stoves as the readymade option for rural India.
Increased use of these stoves, increasing the overall emissions including particulate matter in the atmosphere and because they are burning with very low efficiency are ending up with burning much more renewable fuel

3. Background
โข It is estimated that around 3 billion people worldwide rely
on wood, dung and leaves for cooking fuel.
โข Burning biomass fuels on open fires and in inefficient
stoves, releases many harmful pollutants.
โข Inhaling these pollutants results in excess respiratory
morbidity and mortality in women and children. Known as a
"silent killerโ.
โข over 1.6 million children die annually throughout the
developing world from the consequences of exposure to
biomass fuel smoke.
โข Exposure to biomass smoke is therefore a major public
health issue
4. โข The use of biomass fuel as primary source of
cooking fuel is widespread throughout the country.
โข Use of improved stoves in households reduces levels
of indoor air pollution.
โข Wide ranges of improved stove models exist,
varying in cost, technology and efficiency.
Background (Cont.)
5. INTRODUCTION
โข Rural population is not having the access to LPG gas
stoves.
โข Rural population canโt afford costly LPG gas stove.
โข Costs are increasing rapidly as subsidies are going
down.
โข Availability of large biomass is making the wood
stoves as the readymade option for rural India.
โข Increased use of these stoves, increasing the overall
emissions including particulate matter in the
atmosphere and because they are burning with very
low efficiency are ending up with burning much
more renewable fuel
10. Issues With Solid Fuel Burning Stoves
โข Respiratory diseases
โข Lung problems
โข Increase the chance of
contracting tuberculosis
โข Adverse effect of exposure
on pregnent women and on
the birth weight of children
โข Smoke exposure frequently
causes eye infection
Emission Heath Effect
Traditional Stove (Chulha)
11. Environmental effect
โข Environmental damage like deforestation and contribution to
ambient air pollution
โข It is estimated that cooking with traditional biomass accounts for 18%
of current global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
โข Unlike oil fuels, biomass not only emits typical greenhouse gases, but
also produces black carbon.
โข Massive use of biomass can create additional pressure on local
forests and ecological systems.
โข If fuel-wood and charcoal resources are not sufficiently available, the
use of animal dung and agricultural remains for fuel would have to
increase, resulting in a reduction of soil fertility.
12. Survey
โข Selection of village for survey.
โข Study of the existing cooking practice
โข Availability of various biomass wastes in
surrounding and transportation.
โข Approximate time required for cooking .
โข Effect on health.
โข Solution to increase efficiency of stove using TTPs.
โข Advantages of TTPs.
13. โข Name of village- Mavsala, Tal- Khultabad
Dist-Aurangabad
โข Population โ approx. 1200
โข 60-70 % of villagers' uses cook stove for cooking
due to poverty as they can not afford LPG
โข Available biomass fuels- cow dung, cow dung cake,
cotton sticks, waste wood, agricultural waste,
maize cobs and stalks etc.
โข They have to walk 2-3 km for getting the fuels.
โข They requires 2-3 hours for daily cooking.
17. Why TTPs are used
โข It Improves air fuel mixing and fuel residence
time.
โข It Improves flame stability and extends
flammable limits by turbulent mixing
โข It Improves rate of heat transfer.
โข It Improves contact area between flame and
surface
โข It Increase the pressure drop.
19. Advantages of twisted tape packs (TTPs)
๏TTPs increases thermal efficiency of cook stoves.
๏It reduces emission from the cook stoves.
๏ It reduces firewood consumption.
๏It is easy to install and operate.
20. CONCLUSION
โข We have learnt how to increase the efficiency of
cook stoves using TTPs.
โข We found the scientific solutions on problem.
โข Fuel requirement is decreased by the use of TTPs.
โข This helps in reducing the pollution as a result
health problem are also reduced.
