Futurism and advertising in the 1960s space age
Futurism was an artistic and social movement originating from 20th century Italy. The movement
ultimately rejected anything that looked to the past for identity. Instead, it glorified speed,
technology, youth, and the idea of anything industrial and mass produced. As the founders of the
movement would have it, the movement explored different mediums of art and design, ultimately
overarching each other, and finding its way into many aspects of daily life; including and not
limited to conventional mediums such as painting, sculpture architecture, film, music, poetry, and
photography; just to name a few. With its dynamic and innovative aesthetic qualities, it is still
being appreciated and used in conceptual ways by a handful of present day designers and art
directors as seen in Image 1 (MCM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When the introduction of mass production occrued in the (Insert year here) many people had
opportunities to buy products that would have otherwise taken a very long time to produce. The
introduction of mass manufacturing is also what drives what we now know today as a consumerist
culture. The need, and want for people to buy would have not been made poossible without

Changes In The Ottoman Empire
The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime
expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own
particular investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state
and pushed for changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would
promote new opportunity and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states
expected that a further decrease in the Ottoman Empirewould strengthen political and military
unsteadiness in the Balkans, which consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe.
Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented
an arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for
reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their
political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. The Tanzimat changes
nullified the customary qualification of the Ottoman subjects to those belonging to the ummah and
viewed everyone of them as Ottoman residents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Russia, the Christian character of Europe was an obstruction for the Ottoman reformers to
seek after an approach of wholesale Westernization. Islam was a key distinction of the Ottoman
state and civilization, which obliged nineteenth century reformists to embrace particular
modernization. Its main precepts were: the guarantee of the life and property of all imperial
subjects; the prohibition of punishment without a fair trial; implicit recognition of the equality of
Muslim and non Muslim subjects before the law; taxation in keeping with individual income;
abolition of tax farming; and settlement of the period of military

OVERVIEW
The cellular functions of chaperones are vital to all living organisms from prokaryotes to man.
Molecular chaperones are stress proteins that are involved in inhibition of protein aggregation and
that participate in numerous normal cellular processes such as protein folding, assembly, and
transportation of secretory or transmembrane proteins. The largest chaperone is the glucose
regulated protein 170 (Grp170). It it evolutionarily related to the hsp70 superfamily and resides in
the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It is induced by stress conditions such as hypoxia, ischaemia,
glucose deprivation, reductive reagents, anoxia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One limitation of the early work on UPR induction is that it analyzed who worm gene
expression. It did not look to see if the response was limited to particular tissues or if GRP170 is
essential to normal protein folding throughout the nematode. The goal of my research is to
investigate the tissue specificity of the role of GRP170a and GRP170b in protein folding. To
study the cell specificity of UPR, I will use a reporter transgene that expresses GFP in cells
undergoing UPR. I will conduct genetic crosses to introduce this transgene into a genetic
background deficient for GRP170a or GRP170b. I will use fluorescence microscopy to identify
which cells in the GRP170 deficient worms are undergoing UPR. That will indicate which cells
GRP170 s are essential for normal protein folding. Learning which cells depend on GRP170 will
provide insight into the role of GRP170 of the multicellular animals.

Cain And Abel Pros And Cons
CAIN AND ABEL And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare, Cain, and said, I
have gotten a man from the Lord. And she again bare, his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper
of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in the process of time it came to pass, that Cain
brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the
firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and his offering.
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his
countenance fell . . . . And Cain talked with Abel his brother, and it came to pass, when they were

The Expeditions that led to the establishment of Yellowstone National Park
Throughout history we have witnessed, heard and read about locations that had a significant
impact in history. Stepping into historical locations can either bring back great memories or serve
as memories of grief and sadness. Historical locations can be either war memoirs, monuments and it
can be nature preserves. The National park systems is one of the achievements that the United States

They then proceeded to push forward to the west and they arrived at Fort Sarpy on the

Maynadier and the other was with Captain Reynolds. Captain Reynolds was set to push up to
Bighorn and Lit. Maynadier was to ascend the O Fallon s Fork. This plan stayed and remained
till May 1860. On July 3rd 1860 both parties rejoined at the 3 forks of the Missouri River.
Reynolds went north to Fort Benton to descend the Missouri River by boat and Maynadier went
to Fort Union via Yellowstone River. Then from Fort Union the 2 halves of the expedition began

The Definition Of Savagery In The Lord Of The Flies
Every human is a savage. All of us has something savage within our lives. When were born,
people learn humanity and what s right from wrong. In the book The Lord Of The Flies The
boys are definitely considered savages .In the book, the boys are considered savages because it
is evident that when you re at home, you re taught what s right and wrong, but in the book there
are no parents, another reason is the characteristics of humanity was low such as being civilized.
Lastly is the way they talk and treat things/others which shows a huge amount of savagery. The
definition of savagery is the quality of being fierce or cruel. The definition of humanity is the
human race/human being characteristics.Part of life people have different sides of them whether
are being nice, sad, mad, excited, then lastly there s mean/cruel. Being mean/ cruel is basically
the definition of Savagery. It is anarchy which is used in the book. In The Lord Of The Flies the
characters are Anarch types. An example is that Ralph is the hero, but Piggy is the outcast. For
the hero s job they must fulfill their duties and tasks. Ralph tries to help and lead the group
throughout the whole thing. The character, Piggy, He is a main outcast out of all the characters
he is also bullied from the boys on the island. He has many ideas, but is often left out. At home
you have your parents or your guardians. There is an authority figure there at all times telling you
what to do and how to grow up in life. they

The Pros And Cons Of Child Slavery
Across the globe, millions of children different ages work extremely long hours in hazardous
conditions that prevent them from getting any type of education. It is harmful to their physical
and mental health and to their development as young children. Child slavery does not allow for
children as young as 5 to 15 years of age to receive fair treatment. My topic relates to groups of
children that are sold or bought into the child slavery industry. They receive unfair treatment by
being forced to work long, agonizing hours that no child should be working. They are not able to
go to school and develop normal skills a child their age should be getting. Children that are forced

Symphony Orchestra Reflection
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Texas State Symphony Orchestra Recital at Evans
Auditorium. The performance was made up of two pieces: Overture to Nabucco composed by
Giuseppe Verdi and Symphony No. 5 E minor op. 64 composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with
its 4 movements. The theme of the overall performance was Fifth and Fate , depicting the ideas of
life and destiny. Despite its flaws, the concert very well exemplified this theme and overall put on a
delightful and memorable performance. Now, while the performance in its entirety was something
spectacular, like every piece of art, it had its flaws. One thing I noticed throughout the recital was
the lack of balance. At some points, the string section overpowered the horns almost entirely to
where it was nearly impossible to hear them. Granted, the string section was almost three times the
size of the brass, but that is no excuse. A good director would notice this imbalance and make an
attempt to conduct the sections to fix this unequal sound. Simply stating, the strings needed to be
quieter and the horns could ve made an attempt to be louder. A more obvious fault to the untrained
ear was the timing of the orchestra. On occasion, after rests, when an entire section was cued to
come in, they did not come in in unison. There would be a lone bassoon or viola that would come
sometimes as soon as a beat before the rest of the ensemble. This hindered the sense of unity and
harmony the orchestra attempted

The Nuclear Arms Of The United States And The Soviet Union
In order to maintain peace and stability in the world, there must be a balance of power between
countries. The Nuclear Arms Race was started because there wasn t a balance of power after
World War II. The U.S. was the only country at that time which possessed nuclear weapons.
Russia, fearing a United States domination of world power, developed a nuclear bomb of its own.
Thus started the Arms Race, in which both countries attempted to gain the upper hand in terms of
the number of nuclear warheads each possessed. However, the Arms Race ended when several
treaties in arms reduction were passed. I believe that in the end, the United States and the Soviet
Union realized that one country would eventually win, and the balance of power would... Show

Typically, in popular depictions of arms races, the political calculations that start and regulate
the pace of the game remain obscure. As Charles H. Fairbanks, Jr., has noted, The strange result
is that the activity of the other side, and not one s own resources, plans, and motives, becomes
the determinant of one s behavior. And what constitutes the finish line of the game is the
province of assertion, rather than analysis. Many onlookers, and some participants, have
claimed that the likelihood of war increases as the accumulation of arms proceeds apace. A close
examination of the historical evidence reveals a different picture. Political purposes almost
always drive and govern arms races. It is common for a major race to be initiated by a state
interested in changing the political status quo. In some cases, the response of states content with
the status quo is swift and resolute, but in other cases it is constrained by domestic political or
economic considerations or diverted by diplomatic calculations. The course of an arms race has
frequently exacerbated a sense of rivalry and occasionally even determined the timing of a war; but
most often it has ended in a political settlement between rivals or in a decision by one side to
moderate its buildup. The first competitive buildup in which contemporaries used the arms race
metaphor seems to have been the naval rivalry in the late nineteenth century, in which France and
Russia challenged Britain in the context of

Similarities Between Easter And Greek Easter
Come every April, I would throw on my clothes and run out to our Dolmades tree to pick leaves
to prepare for our traditional dinner. My grandfather grew up in Sparta Greece. He grew up
celebrating a different occasion that most people do not. Most families across the world,
celebrate a tradition known as Easter. The whole family comes over, turkey and mashed potatoes
are spread out all over the table, and you re waiting for the moment your mom tells you that it s
time to eat. However, my family is different. Instead of celebrating Easter we celebrate Greek
Easter. Both are quite similar in ways but have very different traditional values and most
importantly, food.
Initially, my grandfather would celebrate Greek Easter when he was a child and then brought
the tradition to my family. However, the food prepared wasn t easily accessible to him when he
was a child. Growing up in Greece, food and money were scarce. To add, he grew up during
World War I, soldiers would scavenge through his village frequently. Roaming house to house
taking any supplies and food they could get their hands on. With that being said, in order to
celebrate Greek Easter, he had to find leaves, rice, and all the essential needs to prepare the food.
Walking through town barefoot, he would only find limited supplies to make the food. Like

Big Nurse Ratched Quotes
Nurse Ratched, known as Big Nurse is the head nurse in the asylum and her role is to keep order
and control in the ward. She is a master of manipulation. In the passage on page 55, the metaphor
referring to the therapy meeting as bunch of chickens at a peckin party uses an animal motif to
further emphasize the inhuman way Big Nurse retains control. The alliteration peckin party and
blood and bones (Kesey, 55) underscores the seriousness of the meeting. Harding is the chicken in
this peckin party and Big Nurse is the one who takes the first peck. Adding amplification to
McMurphy s analogy, detailing blood spotted chickens that get pecked to death and as their blood

The peckin party is a way to keep order by singling out and humiliating the individual until they
have no self worth. Miss Ratched puts up a pleasant facade giving the illusion that her motives
are for the greater good of her patients. This is evident in Harding s denial of McMurphy s view
that the meetings are Peckin Parties, Our dear Miss Ratched? Our sweet, smiling, tender angel
of mercy, Mother Ratched, a ball cutter? Why, friend, that s most unlikely (57). Miss Ratched s
job is to keep order in the ward at all costs. She does not act out of pure obligation to do her job
well, but enforces her authority even at the expense of the patient s progress. Miss Ratched s
treatment of Billy is proof of how she casts aside patient s advancement and wellbeing to ensure
strict adherence to the rules. Billy desires to live a normal life but Miss Ratched squashes his
dreams and keeps him under her thumb. Sadly, when McMurphy schemes to give Billy a real

your discretion. I know she has. This is going to disturb her terribly. You know how she is when

and appendages, including sweat glands (eccrine and apocrine), sebaceous glands and hair follicles,

more abundant than apocrine glands, are found on virtually all skin surfaces and continuously bathe
the skin surface with their secretion, which is composed mainly of water and salt. The primary role
of eccrine sweat is thermoregulation through the release of latent heat from the evaporation of
water. Additional functions of eccrine glands include excretion of water and electrolytes, and
acidification of the skin, which prevents the colonization and growth of microorganisms. Apocrine
glands, which are located in the axillary vault (armpit), nipple and genitoanal regions, respond to
adrenaline by producing milky, viscous, odourless secretions. Apocrine secretions have long been
postulated to contain pheromones, which are molecules that trigger certain behaviours (for

Essay on Class, Socialization, and Politics
Elections are at the core of the American political system. They are the way we choose our
government, the source of government authority, and a means by which the people can influence
public policy. For most Americans, voting is the only form of political participation. Essential
questions to ask concerning these issues are: Who votesand why? What influences people to
become voters? And what influences how they vote? It is important to approach these issues from a
sociological standpoint addressing such matters as socializationand social stratification.
Socialization is a gradual process that takes place as we grow up. It is the process that aids in

(Introduction to Sociology Pg. 222) Within this class system are three broad overlapping
categories: a working class, a middle class, and an upper class. People are placed within these
categories based on their occupation, income, and wealth. The working class receives the
lowest income and fills blue collar jobs in factories and farms, as well as white collar positions
like clerical and secretarial jobs in offices. The middle class consists of professionals like
teachers, engineers, small business people, and skilled workers. The upper class, often called
the elite or ruling class is composed of those who run our major economic and political
institutions and receive the highest earnings for doing so. Class as reflected in education,
income, and occupation, does influence people s attitudes on a variety of issues. People in the
working class tend to be liberal in wanting greater economic equality and more programs dealing
with social welfare. This liberalism on economic issues contrasts strongly with their ideas on civil
liberties. Members of the middle class tend to be more conservative in their economic views and
more liberal on issues such as free speech and respect for civil rights. Therefore, class attitudes on
political questions are both liberal and conservative. The problem with figuring out how these
various characteristics that divide the population influences a person s political behavior is that

Literary Analysis Of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
The Everlasting Tree An American classic is a novel that has beautiful language, complex
characters that change throughout the novel and is timeless. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just
that. Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl s
coming of age during the early 1900 s. Smith wanted to publish a novelthat showed the American
Dream and the struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered an
American classic because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being
poor prevented attaining that dream and the impact of Francie being a woman with the
injustices she faced. Betty Smith was a German immigrant that lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn,
New York (Johnson). She was a play writer and a novelist at a young age (Johnson) . Smith
began her writing career at Ann Arbor and her playwriting career at the Yale School of Drama
(Johnson). Her move to North Carolina to become a part of the WPA Federal Theater Project
kick started her career as a play writer (Johnson). Her novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, was
written over a period of a few years and was based on her own life (Johnson). As soon as it was
published in 1943 it became a bestseller instantly and many saw Smith as a major component of
literacy in the 1940 s (Johnson). The stress of her overnight success put a considerable amount of
pressure on her to write consimore novels (Johnson). She settled in Chapel Hill, NC where she later

Difference Between The Spatiality Of Position And Situation
The Difference Between the Spatiality of Position and Situation In the third chapter of Part 1 of
Phemomenology of Perception Meurlo Ponty discusses the orientation of the body and how we
perceive of it within the world. To do this he introduces two key concepts; spatiality of position and
spatiality of situation. Both these concepts apply to our experiences being a body within the world
but have very distinct features regarding our perceptions of our bodies and how we conceive of
and interact with the world. This paper will look at the distinction between the two concepts
using Meurlo Ponty s Schnieder and attempting to determine the significance of defining these
two concepts in such a way. To begin, Meurlo Ponty starts by discussing how the parts of our
body relate to each other in a very particular way. We do not conceive of ourselves as a collection
of closely spatially related organs but rather as a whole contributing to our body schema (PhP
100). Our body schema is a gradually developing psychological construct that helps us develop a
summary of our experiences as a body including out movement as a whole and unifies us a being
(PhP 100). The body schema that we develop plays into the spatiality of position and the
spatiality of situation and how the body appears to us. Spatiality of position refers to the body
within space, in this case the body is perceived of as part of the external objective world. Meurlo
Ponty says that this conceptis consistent with ideaof

The Drawbacks of Gun Control Legislation
Gun control is many issues of this nation summed up into two words. In the point of view of
some people gun control is a crime issue, while to others it is a rights issue. Gun control also is a
safety issue and believe it or not, an education issue. Within each of these problems, there are those
who want guncontrol legislation, and those like myself, who want less gun control legislation.
The second amendment states that we as citizens have the right to bear arms and protect
ourselves. Gun control only keeps the good guys from obtaining firearms. Bad guys will always
have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street
sales. Another drawback of any and all gun control legislation is that they only affect law abiding
citizens. By clarification a criminal is someone who breaks the law. Therefore, passing gun control
legislation to control crime committed by criminals is disagreeable. According to the
(NRA) National Rifle Association, only four criminals have been taken into custody while
attempting to legally purchase a firearm. Criminals do not purchase guns legally. They have other
ways to get guns, such as the black market or theft. Many citizens are for new gun control laws, but
many are against them. Nowadays, it is almost impossible to pick up a magazine or watch the
evening news without being blasted with details of another mass shooting, or another child that

Advancements in Women s Rights Over the Past 100 Years Essay
Most cultures and societies through both history, and today have viewed women as the weaker sex
. Often they labeled unfit to perform many jobs outside of child bearing and domestic chores, even
considered less intelligent than men are. In the past, this attitude translated into fewer jobs for
women, below average pay, and poor working conditions.
This continues today, despite the many great advances women have made in the past 100 years.
This is evident in the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) fields, where a man is far more
likely to get the position than a woman is. The rate of males EMTs compared to femaleEMTs was a
ration of 8 1 in 2010. During my research, I came across a website which states,

Another reason for job inequality could be the misconception that women are unable to make
rational decisions, because they are emotionally driven. Women are emotional creatures, but their
emotions do not override common sense. Typically, women have to study more, and work harder
than a man to achieve their position of power. According to the Harvard Business Review
Women, still face tougher odds not only getting into, but also staying in the C suite. (CEO). They
conducted a study in which they studied the leadership of the world s top 2000 companies; they
found that 29 (1.5%) of those CEOs were women. The Harvard Business Review also notes the
difference between men and women CEOs and suggests that women still aren t treated as equals to
men when it comes to high stakes positions. Another study by Darden Professor Erica James
reported that stock in a company drops after the announcement of a female CEO, but not after that
of a male CEO.
As time went on women continued their struggle to earn their right even today. In some areas
around the world, women are still expected to be those perfect 50 s housewives where they cook,
clean, make, and raise the children. In areas around the world like Israel, women who cannot have

Analysis Of Chopped And Screw
Houston, Texas is the hometown of an artist who pioneered an innovative genre of rap. Robert
Earl Davis Jr., better known as DJ Screw, birthed this genre by experimenting with turntables at a

experimentation led to the creation of what he called Chopped and Screwed. DJ Screw s
interpretation of ideal rap music governed not only the genre, but artist throughout Houston.
During the 90 s, Chopped and Screwed had a notable effect on musical, social, pharmaceutical,
and cultural aspects in Houston which are still being expressed today. Rap before Chopped and

Chopped and Screwed for Houstonians was and still is a cultural identity. For example, June

Artist such as Drake have produced remixes from one of DJ Screw s most memorable songs,
June 27th. DJ Screw mixed and mastered the beat and various artist freestyled over the beat.
Many Houston artists supported the movement DJ Screw spearheaded because it influenced the
culture remarkably. The start of Screwed Up Click also greatly shaped Chopped and Screwed. DJ
Screw, the leader of the group, invited other Houston rappers to join. Some of the original

My Thoughts On My Dreams
Day 1: My first mindful rest experience was new and kind of unexpected. I did not believe I
would feel so comfortable in that position to fall asleep on the floor afterwards. I amazed myself
that I didn t want to get up. My dreams are generally very vivid and involve lots of action,
however in my dream after this experience was completely dark. Not scary dark, but just the
nothingness found in blackness. I took a fair bit of rearrangement to get into a comfortable
position, but once I got to it, the hard tile floor actually didn t feel as hard as I had thought it
would. Surprisingly, my grandfather used to take naps on the floor lying flat with a pillow
against his head, although his feet were not in the same position with knees pointing towards
the sky, I felt connected to him through this activity. I found I had to really plan out a time to do
it in the future, because this experience was completed at a random hour when I was working on
my other homework and I realized I had mindful rest to complete today. I am planning on doing
it for 7 days straight but am a little worried that I may miss a day because of timing. Day 2: I had
a different experience in today s mindful rest, I was told to keep my eyes open which I think gave
it a different experience than the last. I remained mindful the entire time. Although today was very
hot in my room, and keeping the fans off for the entirety was hard. It was interesting that when I
got up after, I felt as though my breathing was

The Actual Meaning of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke...
The Actual Meaning of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke
Poetry is made to express the feelings, thoughts, and emotions of the poet. The reader can interpret
the poem however they see fit. Critics are undecided about the theme of Theodore Roethke s My
Papa s Waltz. Some people believe that the poem is one of a happy exchange between a father and
son. The more convincing interpretation is that it has a hidden message of parental abuse. Careful
analysis of the keywords and each individual stanza back up this theory of child abuse by a violent
and drunken father.
The word that is key to the poem is romp. Roethke states that we romped until the pans / slid from
the kitchen shelf (5 6). The word is usually associated with ... Show more content on

Most people would not associate a joyous event and death. For instance, when someone is on a
roller coaster, they hang on tight out of fear. The second stanza gives the details of how the
father was knocking over pans and shelves. No fun event would require continuous destruction to
the house. The reader also sees the mother in a seemingly helpless state as the father continues to
damage the house. She seems to be in a state of dismay as her husband carries on his behavior.
Her frown shows that his actions sadden her but she is powerless to stop him. One would think
that a smile would be more appropriate. This supports the abuse aspect because she would not be
frowning if it was a joyous exchange between the son and father.
In the last two stanza s, Roethke describes the vivid details of the beating. He describes how one
hand clinches the boy s wrist. Clinch seems to be a rather strong word and it indicates a use of
forceful grabbing. If this were a happy dance, the author would not use such a strong description.
Lines 11 12 shows how the father tries to hit the son but due to his intoxication he misses and
grazes the son s ear with the belt buckle. The fourth and final stanza sums up the feelings of the
boy towards the father. The words seem to be directly spoken to the dad. This is not the first time
this type of action has taken place. The reader gets this interpretation because the boy says, you beat
time on my head

The Soybean Aphid, An Invasive Insect Of North America
The soybean aphid, Aphis glycines is an invasive insect in North America. Kingdom: Animalia,
Phylum: Arthropoda, Class: Insecta, Order: Hemiptera, Family: Aphididae, Genus: Aphis, Species:
A. glycines ( Soybean Aphid ).
(Diers, et al. 2009)
The soybean aphid is native to Asia and a common pest in China ( Soybean Aphid ). Asian countries
that experience the soybean aphid as an occasional pest are Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the
Philippines and Thailand ( Soybean Aphid ). The aphids were identified in Wisconsin in the
summer of 2000 (Venette et al. 2004). Many believe that the soybean aphid arrived a few years
prior to its identification because of the pest thrived in small numbers. Typically farmers and
agronomist are not going to know a foreign species until they are looking for cause of crop
injury. The invasion is believed to be accidental as the aphids were most likely introduced from,
China or Japan carried by an international airline passenger or associated with a horticultural
cargo (Venette et al. 2004). Only two years after being identified the aphids were found in 20
states including the Midwest and along the East Coast which contain approximately 89 percent of
the land in the United States used to grow soybeans (Soybean Aphid). The soybean aphid was able
to move quickly across the continental United States. These small insects utilized wind currents to

very much affected by government policies, rules and regulations prevailing in one particular
country. Often in many countries Tesco is faced with the legislations to provide jobs to all sets of

closing of few Tesco stores in European Union.
b. Economic Factors: This is one of the major sections where Tesco is most ill affected at current
juncture of its growth as crisis has led Tesco to follow retrenchment policy which can hamper
satisfaction among employees and they don t feel motivated. Also the economic slump has had a
direct impact on demands of consumers who want to curtail back on their expenditures which is
affecting Tesco very badly. Economic factors badly influence demand, prices, costs and profits for

Fear Of Madness In Hamlet
Madness, and fear of madness, are the driving factors behind the plot and character interactions
in the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. By the end of the play, almost every main character
ends up dead as a result of the hysteria or indecisiveness of other characters. As more and more
tragic events and countless deaths occur, each character is forced to find a coping mechanism.
Some succumb to the pressure, like Ophelia, who goes mad and drowns after her father dies, but
others attempt to hide the effect the pressure has on them, like King Claudius. A deeper
examination of Claudius s emotions and behaviors reveal that his psychological state is in truth
severely damaged and has taken a toll on his actions.
After killing his brother, King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

deal with his own guilt and grief after murdering his brother, Claudius instead finds a scapegoat
to convince himself he has done nothing wrong. He accuses Hamlet of being mad, yet there is
madness that lies within himself. The burden of holding in the horrible action he has committed
has begun to take a toll on his well being, and the audience is finally given a glimpse into
Claudius s emotions after The Murder of Gonzago, when he attempts to pray: Pray can I not.
Though inclination be as sharp as will, my stronger guilt defeats my strong intent (3.3.42 44). The
fact that there is nothing Claudius can ever do to truly make up for what he has done finally
catches up to him, but he instead ends up using this as motivation for pursuing Hamlet s murder.
The more Hamlet pushes his buttons, the more Claudius increasingly responds with coercion and
eventually force (Keener). Every move Hamlet makes serves to convince Claudius that he is mad
and a threat that needs controlling. Claudius convinces others around him that stopping Hamlet s
madness is for the safety of the people, yet it is mainly

Social Support-Giving Communication
A communication approach to the study of social support views it as an interactive process
involving support seeking behavior, the giving of support, and a response to support by the
receiver (Barbee, 1990; Burleson et al., 1994; House, 1981). Support giving communication
includes any behaviors with altruistic intent directed toward another individual (Dunkel Schetter,
Blasband, Feinstein, Herbert, 1992, p. 90), such as providing advice or comfort. Those who receive
effective social supportmay experience benefits such as feelings of well being, a sense of being
accepted and understood, and an improved ability to control and cope with stressful events
(Burleson, 1994).
Many types of social support have been examined in the literature.

CINEPLEX INC risk profile
CAS 300 requires auditors to their audit using a risk based model where the nature, timing and
extent of audit procedures are based on the assessed risk of material misstatement. Pickett (2006)
argues that for audits to be effective and efficient, much of the audit effort should be focused on
areas that are considered to pose the highest audit risk. Additional audit procedures should be
linked to individual audit assertions whereas other audit procedures need to be performed as and
when needed. Thus, for an audit plan to be put in place, it is necessary for an auditor to come up
with a risk profile of the client comprising an understanding of the business operating by the audit
client, assess business risk and also perform its preliminary analytical review.

Siddhartha River Analysis
Siddhartha

Topic 3
Insignificant droplets of water plunging to the ground, gradually elaborating into a system which
proclaims its existence with such scintillation and momentous significance, the river. The river
that carries the same inexorable rate which we live our lives by, parallels to the current of an
unstoppable river. Shifted to different directions by the different obstacles encountered, the river
finds different routes to get to the destination it desires and life mimics its nature as many avenues
close and others open. But the river carries on and does not pass through the same obstacle twice,
it does not struggle or brawl the happenings opposed to it, it simply takes another path and learns
from its mistakes. The river symbolizes life. In the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. The river
plays a significant role on a reflective surface which redirects his actions into the eyes of the
protagonist, Siddhartha. Born as the Brahmins Son, Siddhartha was surrounded by the luxuries
and privileges of someone that has a supreme role in the caste system. The concept of Siddhartha s
life is represented by the river comes into motion as we see the river being implemented in the
early stages of the book as Herman Hesse describes Siddhartha s childhood. Different actions, his
childhood revolved around the river that Siddhartha grew up in but most importantly he performs
his rituals and his holy offerings. Suntanned

The Impact Of Globalization On The Urban Environment And...
In 1990s America, obtaining freedom from governmental control became a social preoccupation.
Starting with liberalism s demand for increased individual freedom, what began as a small
movement eventually transformed into a culture wide fight for social justice and economic growth
to create a free market where, ideally, no government would be needed. Activists term this modern
movement neo liberalism, or global market liberalism (capitalism), which calls for free trade
policies. While adopting such a system for American cities has been advocated by many people for
its economic benefits, it also necessarily creates new relations between the citygovernment and the
residents who live there, which in turn affects the urban environment and social relations within the
city. The question is a persistent one in our place and time: to globalize, or not to globalize?
Globalization requires highly specialized services, telecommunications, infrastructure, and
industrial services. Economic globalization has mostly been represented in terms of the duality
between national and global, where the global gains power and advantages at the expense of the
national. For example, Saskia Sassen, author of Whose City Is It?, states many disadvantages of
global cities for women, immigrants, and people of color, whose political sense of self and
identities are not necessarily embedded in the nation (206).
In developing cities there are large concentrations of diversity; immigration is a major

Raw by Scott Monk, Hard Rock by Etheridge Knight, and Dangerous Minds by John N. Smith
Institutions can have positive and negative effects that can alter an individual s perceptions,
judgment and values. Raw by Scott Monk, Hard Rock by Etheridge Knight and Dangerous Minds
by John N. Smith help communicate an understanding of how such institutions can reform an
individual.
The novel Raw written by Scott Monk, is simple in style but introduces interesting and an
acceptable insight to the concept of the institution and the individual experience . Brett Dalton
resembles a highly wrought, reactionary character who challenged or feels confronted by structures
of authority or control.
Using Brett as the protagonist, Monk opens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He implies that the power to change lives within the individual. Further on in the novel, Brett is
still of concern and Sam reaches out to try and help. Don t shut me out, Brett. I do know the score
and that is why I m worried about you . This indicates the positive effect of the institution and on
the individual.
Josh is another character who helps Brett reform. Josh is seen as the rehabilitated teenager who
chooses to stay on the farm. He helps Brett realize that his problems are the least of his worries
when compared with other troubled teenagers, for example Josh himself. His problems are quite
indescribable, he has no parents that desire to care for him, whilst Brett does, and this changes Brett
s perspective towards Josh and his life. Monk deliberately outlines the change in Brett through Josh
to demonstrate the changing experience and positive effect of the institution on Brett.
Scott Monk employs many techniques to convey his ideas of the positive changes Brett incurred
from an institution. One of many is the use of contrast, which juxtaposes Brett s life at the
beginning and his reformed life at the end. Monk highlights this contrast through the prologue and
epilogue. In the prologue, Brett hates anyone who has the authority he thinks the whole world is
against him, whilst in the epilogue Brett had learnt to make friendships, gain trust and respect and
learn to accept his own mistakes and responsibilities.

The Importance Of Technology On Human Interaction And...
Up until about twenty or thirty years ago, no one really knew what technology was or how to
use a cell phone, tablet, or computer. The iPhone was not even invented until ten years ago, but
today, technology plays a role in almost every aspect of every person s life. It is just about
impossible to go a day without seeing or using some piece of technology. The extensive amount of
technology available today has really influenced the world and how people live. Unfortunately, that
influence is not entirely positive; it has hindered human interaction and communicationby making
people socially awkward, creating relationship issues, and limiting people s abilities to understand
and use the written language. Because technology hinders human interaction and communication,
people should limit their technological use.
First, the more recent generations of children are growing up with technology available
everywhere, so they are learning from a very young age what technology is and how to use it.
Instead of playing outside with other kids in their neighborhood like their parents did growing
up, most children today play video games on a gaming console, laptop, tablet, or cell phone. This
is isolating children from the real world and inhibiting their ability to learn how to communicate
with others. They are not learning to understand various social clues or even how to have a
conversation face to face, and because of this, most kids may feel anxious or overwhelmed when
they face a social

REACTION PAPER on GOD IS DEAD
The lines, God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him, can be true in literal sense.
Subjectively, the lines presented are very agnostic and atheistic. Those are against my will and
belief as a Roman Catholic faithful. The three shorter mentioned lines are three important points to
be clarified about.
The first line says, God is dead is true in literal sense. In the Scriptures, it written that Jesus became
man and so he died as a human. Yes, I believe that God really died. He was crucified by the high
priests and the people s demand and at the order of the governor, Pontius Pilate. Jesus died humbly
at the cross and every person present there had seen His timely death.

Learning what is real is a step by step process; as learning occurs in stages. With each step, we
become wiser and so, we gain full wisdom which is useful for our decision making and daily
struggles.
Plato s point of making just leaders who can lead his men justly is an important proposition for a
better government. This is very ideal, however, the sad reality today is that not all leaders are
blessed with the virtue of justice, fairness and sincerity. Maybe these leaders haven t acquired full
wisdom yet. They failed to achieve the highest stage for they are too preoccupied with
misconceptions, false realities or maybe they are blinded with injustices and self interests.
Life is a copy of a copy of reality. It is idealistic to view that everything we conceive can be false
or real but somehow, as time advances, the truth will soon be within reach. Human beings should
know how to use this truth to their society.
A REACTION on EUTHANASIA
Thou shall not kill, is the fifth commandment. It is a sin to kill. We are not given the right to stop
the life of an individual no matter what the circumstances are.
Euthanasia is also known as mercy killing. It refers to the practice of ending a life in order to
relieve pain and suffering. It can be voluntary, non voluntary, and involuntary.

Arguments Against Dna Testing
Discussion #3
DNA testing has been around for many years. DNA testing was first used to determine paternity
(Schwartz 2016). Today, DNA is not only used in paternity cases, but it is also used in criminal
justice. DNA in the criminal justice was first used in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Dr. Alec J.
Jeffreys was accused for two rape murders and later proven innocent by DNA testing (The
Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003). Even if this method is reliable most of the time,
there are times where the DNA expert might make a mistake, might be rigged or there might be an
unknown bias. Unfortunately, because of this innocent individual are wrongfully accused of a crime

Dror believes that fingerprints are a reliable forensic evidence in today s trials. He also believes
that fingerprints are more reliable than eyewitness testimonies. However, since fingerprints are
identified by very highly skilled professional, they are still humans and mistakes can in fact
happen either honestly or intentionally. He also stated that in most cases, fingerprint evidence
has been more reliable and can be important in order to prove someone s innocence or find a
criminal. I personally, agree with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable
than eyewitness testimony. Like he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does
not take a video which we can later see and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime.
Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is because the mind is very easy to trick.
Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with someone else, either someone involved
in the crime or by being asked leading questions by authorities. Statistics show that 70% of
wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence
project, nd). As Dr. Dror said, the DNA expert might make some mistakes, DNA testing is still
better and more reliable than eyewitness

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Judges
When judges are spoken of as a group, they are referred to as the judiciary. There are many
different levels of judges, but the basic function is the same at all levels: judges are there to
adjudicate on disputes in a fair, unbiased way, applying the legal rules of England and Wales.
There is no clear cut division between civil and criminal judges, as many judges at the various
levels are required to sit for both types of case. This in itself causes problem as, before their
appointment, most judges will have specialised in one area of law. The head of the judiciary is
the Lord Chief Justice. When considering judges the first point is that there is a marked difference

Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience,
like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one s shoulders.
It can affect one s experience of the world: if it s sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if
it s gray, the gray gets heavier.
Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil?
How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it?

One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray s Drift Away ( And when I m feeling blue, a guitar
s comin through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you ve given me... ). Sometimes music can be
used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from deep
anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige s No
More Cryin from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that album
are Take Me As I Am and Good Woman Down. Finally, because depression can also stem from
fear, I recommend listening to Mindkiller, by Adam Freeland off of his Now and

killer. Going for a drive in your car can also be a distraction from the depression, as long as you feel

Pay It Forward Reflection
A young boy in social studies class is given an assignment, along with the rest of the students, to
come up with an idea that could change the world. As well as coming up with an idea, the
students also have to put it into action. Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know
nor understand how a kid his age can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from
school, he passes up a site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can
change the world comes to him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help
three, and so on. This begins his plan to Pay it Forward.
The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by Mimi Leder at
Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG 13 drama. Starring in this
movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt (Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment
(Trevor McKinney), Jon Bon Jovi (Arlene s husband), and Angie Dickinson (Arlene s mother).
The main idea of the movie is for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and
do it not just talk about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out
bigger than he could have imagined.
The acting portrayed in this movie by Haley Joel Osment as the young Trevor McKinney is
excellent. Trevor McKinney is a kid that is wise beyond his years and very courageous. He is the

The National Military Strategy of the United States articulates several specific challenges to U.S.
National Security interests that will confront JF 2025. Russian aggression toward its neighbors
and defiance of international standards of behavior threatens stability in Europe. Iranian nuclear
ambitions and support of terror imperils Israel and the Middle East. A bellicose and nuclear North
Korea is a threat to America s allies, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The emerging power of
China offers both opportunities in the form of greater economic cooperation, but also challenges as
they expand their military capabilities, menace Taiwan and make provocative claims in the South

The emergence of near peer competitors like China and Russia and the threat of malign regional
powers like Iran and North Korea continue to make inter state war conceivable for JF 2025. The
threat posed by VEOs and failing or failed states continues to foster regional instability making

The reason I chose Carolyn is because since this is her first time playing basketballon a team and
her first sport, there is no muscle memory developed as of yet. I can analyze her foul shot and
movements and see raw unrehearsed kinetics of her movements.
The methods of data collection I will use to analyze Carolyn s movement skills in the fouls shot
are a digital camcorder recording of sagittal plane of her dominant side, also frontal plane view. I
will use Coaches Eye, a video recording application. Three times will be recorded for analysis. I
also will physically record on a chart. My limitations will be the environment because I will
have to conduct this analysis outside of a gym, so I will not have a basketball hoop but I will
have a goal for Carolyn to aim for. With this data that I will apply it to what I have researched
about gaining and practicing the best skill for the ultimate performance. Then I will have my
subject Carolyn practice and then re analyze her movement s.
The analyzed movement will be the basketball free throw shot. I have found peer reviewed articles

Shitty First Drafts By Anne Lammott Analysis
Writing is something we have been used to since childhood. Beginning to write with just a few
words and activities to improve our pendmanship. From easy sentences we all gradually improve
our writing, as expected from higher levels of education. However, throughout all this time, many
of us have been writingblind. Only writing what is seen an necessary, oblivious to the true skill
and precision it takes to actually write quality work. Through the use of Anne Lammott s article
Shitty First Drafts and personal experiences, I will advice you, my fellow freshman, on certain a
aspect of writing that you may not have known prior to joining the college world, as well as offer
some life advice.
To begin, in Anne Lammott s article Shitty First Drafts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking from prior experience, I have never been one to openly allow someone else to revise
my work or even allow them to view it at all. I am quite a bit too shy for that. However, Lommet
makes some valid points. All throughout my life, I have gotten by on the basics of writing. I was
unaware of the amount of work that takes place in writing. Writing is much more than it seems to
be. Simply writing is not suffice in the understanding of the skillful process. I have come to
realization that writing is just as critical as assembling a car. In the same sense, building a car is
about precision and piecing many parts together for the overall outcome of a successful, running
automobile. Even then, there may be room for improvements down the line, but in the meantime it
is good to produce the best work possible. Writing can be just as critical because it involves a vast
variety of things as well. There is more to take into account than simply typing or jotting down
words. Writing involves grammar, spelling, punctuation, intended audience, etc... These things of
which can become quite confusing, attempting to make them all flow in a smooth,

Essay on The Theme of Hypocrisy in The Catcher In The Rye
The Theme of Hypocrisy in The Catcher In The Rye
In the novel The Catcher In The Rye, the protagonist Holden Caulfield views his surroundings with
hypocrisy and contempt in an attempt to avoid the corruption of adulthood. Holden places himself
above the crowd because he believes everyone acts phony. In the process, Caulfield reveals his true
problem: his refusal to change.
Holden fears adulthood because it brings responsibilities and trouble. He believes all adults
possess an aurora of phoniness. His disgust of everyone around him reveals his fear of growing
up. Holden exhibits insecurity, so to make himself feel better, he exercises the power to condemn
people for the way they behave. Holden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trouble is, you wouldn t (Salinger 172). Because the aging process is inevitable, Holden
abhors the idea of growing up and becoming a phony himself.
Change is inevitable and is a constant phase that Holden cannot conceptualize. Holden s fear of
change can be exemplified by the Museum of Natural History. Like the museum, he wants
everything to be unchanging and as simple as possible. He talks about the immutable statues by
saying, Certain things they should stay the way they are... I know it s impossible, but it s too
bad anyway (Salinger 122). By admitting his fear of change, Holden also reveals another
important aspect of his life: his loss of childhood innocence. The only thing he can talk about
without contempt is kids. Allie, his deceased brother, is continuously mentioned in the book, as
well as the many interactions Holden has with Phoebe. Although he is continuously deriding
others around him, he humbly admits to his sister that the only thing he could envision doing is
saving kids, What I have to do I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff [...] I d just
be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only thing I d like to be (Salinger
173). Holden s love for kids is the only

The Effects Of Home Environment On Children
Abstract
The use of child daycare has been debated endlessly. It has become hard to determine how it may
aid in the development of a child s cognition or if it hurts it instead. This is partly because of the
wide variety of types of child care and the opportunities that are given to young children.
Fortunately, measures have been created to help standardize what a daycare does and how it is
run. In this paper, several studies are assessed and the criteria that daycares are held to are
evaluated. The effect of home environment is compared to the effect of a child being at daycare
during the day. It is important to establish a high quality daycare while simultaneously engaging the
child in a healthy life at home.

( Daycare Centers, 1997 2016).
This organization in daily activities is a good characteristic of a high quality daycare center, in
which children s brains develop the most. In addition change of environment can help stimulate
the children s senses. When the group of kids takes a trip outside, they have the opportunity to
express themselves more freely and develop in ways that they wouldn t be able to inside. Lower
quality daycares that may not be as certified or even informal daycare, where a relative watches
over a child, has shown to not assist children s cognitive development as much. They may not have
the facilities to let the children go outside and therefore, they lose that advantage that kids in high
quality daycare have. Many studies have shown how certain aspects of daycare affect how children
develop cognitive including experiments in language development and the effects of informal
daycare.
Defining Quality of Daycare
Many studies by credited organizations, including the National Association for the Education of
Young Children and the American Psychological Association, have been conducted in order to
examine the effects of daycare on the cognitive development of children at or around preschool
age. It has been discovered that the quality of daycare has a somewhat influential effect on the
development of young children. As a result, high quality daycare has shown to improve the scores
on tests

Different Methods Of Preventing Vitamin D Deficiency And...
Seasonal affective disorder is a mood disorder characterized by depression, which occurs around
the same time every year (Partonen, 1998). It is hypothesized that being deficient in vitamin D is a
reason for having seasonal affective disorder. We have researched four different methods of
preventing vitamin Ddeficiency and seasonal affective disorder. The most used methods of
achieving adequate vitamin D levels were found to be indoor tanning, natural light, light therapy
and vitamin D supplementation. This research is important because it affects the well being and
quality of life in every day people. During this project, we will assess which of the following four
methods: indoor tanning, natural light, light therapy, or vitamin D supplementation is the most
effective way to treat seasonal affective disorder.
When looking at seasonal affective disorder, the environment where someone lives greatly affects
their depressive symptoms. As stated earlier, distance from the equator has proven to add to the
significance of people with depression in the winter months. A study was conducted to see the
difference in the rate of depression searches using the internet based on global location. The study
compared the United States with Australia, given that the U.S. lies in the northern hemisphere, and
Australia in the southern hemisphere. The two countries have greatly different climates, with
Australia remaining warm and sunny through most of the year. The results took into account the

Character Analysis Of Spider Man
Peter Parker was having a great day at his field trip to Oscorp, until a radioactive spider bit him and
changed his life forever. Radioactive spiders are sadly not a scientific reality in our world today. If
they were, perhaps someone like Peter Parker would emerge as a real life web slinging superhero.
However, since no spiders are likely to bite any teenage boys from Queens, Peter Parker and Spider
Manwill remain fictional characters. Despite this limitation, the character of Peter Parker manages
to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds across the world to achieve great things with the gifts
they have been given. Spider Man himself is a global phenomenon that has sparked countless
reincarnations of the character in almost every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter chooses to help people around Queens out of the goodness of his heart, because he knows
he has the power to. Before Uncle Ben dies, he tells Peter that with great power comes great
responsibility (The Amazing Spider Man). Peter takes this advice to heart and uses his powers
to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. When asked by Tony Stark why he
chooses to fight crime, Peter says, When you can do the things that I can, but you don t... and
then the bad things happen, they happen because of you. (Captain America: Civil War). This
statement shows how Peter has taken on the burden of powers by devoting himself to stopping
bad things from happening. Peter s willingness to take up his responsibilities to save innocent
lives makes him a great character. Peter Parker s devotion to his family elevates his character to
a higher standard. Peter is devastated when his uncle dies but doesn t allow his grief to pull him
away from his aunt. He does everything in his power to protect Aunt May from finding out his
secret, because he knows how much she would worry about him. After his best friend finds out
about Spider Man, Peter begs him not to tell Aunt May by saying You know what she s like, if
she finds out that there are people out there who try to kill me every night she won t let me do this
anymore! (Spider Man: Homecoming). By saying this, he shows that he is willing to deceive his
aunt in order to protect his city.

Band of Brothers And Today Essay
Band of Brothers And Today
What is going on in the world today? Are there any similarities with how the world was run 65
years ago? The 2002 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers was created and produced by a crew with
numerous amounts of well known Hollywood names. Two men with some of the biggest names in
Hollywood that backed this miniseries with their talent were Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
The miniseries was released in 2002, only a year after the events of September 11th. The show was
aired on HBO during prime time hours, aimed at Americans who may not have had a strong sense
of this era in history. Band of Brothers stresses the bond between men who have willingly come

September 11th 2001, an act of terror that screamed a cry throughout the world, and will forever
be in the hearts of many. Hundreds of firemen and police officers gave their lives without
thinking of there own. They could think only of the others who were in danger. The brotherhood
came after the disaster. Millions of Americans came together to show there support for others
who had been directly affected. The attacks of 9/11 forever affected Americans in the fact that
they were forever united with a bond stronger than anything a terrorist could break. Band of
Brothers shows that when put to the test, the bonds Americans create amongst themselves is
greater than any evil that is put in front of them. This was shown in the horrific tales of D Day.
As Lieutenant Richard Winters said, when referring to the solidarity of his company He s behind
enemy lines, on D Day.... Does he holler help? No... he hollers I m sorry lieutenant, I m sorry, I
goofed My God it s beautiful when you think of a guy who s that dedicated to his company, his
buddies, that he apologizes for getting hit. (We Stand Alone Together, Spielberg) Although
Americans may not be fighting a battle on the front lines, they have come to fight a battle of their
daily lives, and showing the opposition that they will not be

Comparing Sonny s Blues And The Fire Next Time
James Baldwin s works, both Sonny s Blues and The Fire Next Time, weave the themes of black
identity, family , and religion more elegantly than I have ever witnessed by any other writer. When
reading The Fire Next Time readers witness the disharmony and miscommunication that wedges
itself between a father and son. Baldwin, a teenager at the time, acts as many teenagers do, hoping
to find various ways to spite his father first by joining a church and becoming saved, but not his
father s church; then by insulting his father s beliefs and rules by inviting a non christian into the
familyhome, although he already anticipates his father s reaction to such an act; and finally by
joining the pulpit, although he is not a true believer. Baldwin

The Effects Of Americans On Indian Life
One cannot examine U.S. history without looking at the interactions between Native Americans
and Americans. From colonization to industrialization, conflicts between these groups have always
been prevalent. Indians have been stripped of their land, heritage and status. Our guns, germ and
culture have killed them. One can see this power struggle in many pieces of literature. Two being,
Crazy Horse: A Life , a secondary source focusing on a Siouxwarrior Crazy Horse and the Plains
peoples, and Indian Trader John Lawson s Journal of Carolina 1709, a primary source that
describes an English merchant s encounter with Indians in Carolina. This paper will focus on the
effects of Americans on Indian life.
Crazy Horse: A Life is a secondary source of information that tells the story of Sioux leader Crazy
Horse and his tribe. As Whites invade their land for gold Crazy Horse has to find a way to keep
his home. Throughout the source, Larry McMurtry, with little evidence, draws up the rise and fall
of Crazy Horse. From early on it was evident of the whites were moving into the Plains peoples
settlements, The author wrote, ...at first the pressure of white intrusion may have been subtle but
and slight but it was present, and would be present throughout his entire life... the Sioux people and
others way of life was dying because of the settlements of white people on their land. Their
settlements cause the game to leave the area, which in turn hurt the hunters of the tribe. With these

Futurism And Advertising In The 1960s Space Age Teresa Koh Futurism and Fashion Final Paper Jessica Glascock 12/09/2015 Futurism and advertising in the 1960s space age Futurism was an artistic and social movement originating from 20th century Italy. The movement ultimately rejected anything that looked to the past for identity. Instead, it glorified speed, technology, youth, and the idea of anything industrial and mass produced. As the founders of the movement would have it, the movement explored different mediums of art and design, ultimately overarching each other, and finding its way into many aspects of daily life; including and not limited to conventional mediums such as painting, sculpture architecture, film, music, poetry, and photography; just to name a few. With its dynamic and innovative aesthetic qualities, it is still being appreciated and used in conceptual ways by a handful of present day designers and art directors as seen in Image 1 (MCM ... • 3. Changes In The Ottoman Empire The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own particular investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state and pushed for changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would promote new opportunity and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states expected that a further decrease in the Ottoman Empirewould strengthen political and military unsteadiness in the Balkans, which consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe. Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented an arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. The Tanzimat changes nullified the customary qualification of the Ottoman subjects to those belonging to the ummah and viewed everyone of them as Ottoman residents ... Islam was a key distinction of the Ottoman state and civilization, which obliged nineteenth century reformists to embrace particular modernization. Tissues Specific Roles For Two Grp170 Chaperones Loci Tissues Specific Roles for Two GRP170 Chaperones Loci in Protein Folding in Caenorhabditis Elegans Mengxin Wang OVERVIEW The cellular functions of chaperones are vital to all living organisms from prokaryotes to man. Molecular chaperones are stress proteins that are involved in inhibition of protein aggregation and that participate in numerous normal cellular processes such as protein folding, assembly, and transportation of secretory or transmembrane proteins. The largest chaperone is the glucose regulated protein 170 (Grp170). It it evolutionarily related to the hsp70 superfamily and resides in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). One limitation of the early work on UPR induction is that it analyzed who worm gene expression. It did not look to see if the response was limited to particular tissues or if GRP170 is essential to normal protein folding throughout the nematode. The goal of my research is to investigate the tissue specificity of the role of GRP170a and GRP170b in protein folding. To study the cell specificity of UPR, I will use a reporter transgene that expresses GFP in cells undergoing UPR. I will conduct genetic crosses to introduce this transgene into a genetic background deficient for GRP170a or GRP170b. I will use fluorescence microscopy to identify which cells in the GRP170 deficient worms are undergoing UPR. That will indicate which cells GRP170 s are essential for normal protein folding. Learning which cells depend on GRP170 will provide insight into the role of GRP170 of the multicellular animals. In the book The Lord Of The Flies The boys are definitely considered savages .In the book, the boys are considered savages because it is evident that when you re at home, you re taught what s right and wrong, but in the book there are no parents, another reason is the characteristics of humanity was low such as being civilized. Lastly is the way they talk and treat things/others which shows a huge amount of savagery. The definition of savagery is the quality of being fierce or cruel. The definition of humanity is the human race/human being characteristics.Part of life people have different sides of them whether are being nice, sad, mad, excited, then lastly there s mean/cruel. Being mean/ cruel is basically the definition of Savagery. It is anarchy which is used in the book. In The Lord Of The Flies the characters are Anarch types. An example is that Ralph is the hero, but Piggy is the outcast. For the hero s job they must fulfill their duties and tasks. Ralph tries to help and lead the group throughout the whole thing. The character, Piggy, He is a main outcast out of all the characters he is also bullied from the boys on the island. He has many ideas, but is often left out. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Child Slavery Across the globe, millions of children different ages work extremely long hours in hazardous conditions that prevent them from getting any type of education. It is harmful to their physical and mental health and to their development as young children. Child slavery does not allow for children as young as 5 to 15 years of age to receive fair treatment. My topic relates to groups of children that are sold or bought into the child slavery industry. They receive unfair treatment by being forced to work long, agonizing hours that no child should be working. • 9. Symphony Orchestra Reflection Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Texas State Symphony Orchestra Recital at Evans Auditorium. The performance was made up of two pieces: Overture to Nabucco composed by Giuseppe Verdi and Symphony No. 5 E minor op. 64 composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with its 4 movements. The theme of the overall performance was Fifth and Fate , depicting the ideas of life and destiny. Despite its flaws, the concert very well exemplified this theme and overall put on a delightful and memorable performance. Now, while the performance in its entirety was something spectacular, like every piece of art, it had its flaws. One thing I noticed throughout the recital was the lack of balance. At some points, the string section overpowered the horns almost entirely to where it was nearly impossible to hear them. Granted, the string section was almost three times the size of the brass, but that is no excuse. A good director would notice this imbalance and make an attempt to conduct the sections to fix this unequal sound. Simply stating, the strings needed to be quieter and the horns could ve made an attempt to be louder. A more obvious fault to the untrained ear was the timing of the orchestra. On occasion, after rests, when an entire section was cued to come in, they did not come in in unison. There would be a lone bassoon or viola that would come sometimes as soon as a beat before the rest of the ensemble. This hindered the sense of unity and harmony the orchestra attempted ... • 10. The Nuclear Arms Of The United States And The Soviet Union In order to maintain peace and stability in the world, there must be a balance of power between countries. The Nuclear Arms Race was started because there wasn t a balance of power after World War II. The U.S. was the only country at that time which possessed nuclear weapons. Russia, fearing a United States domination of world power, developed a nuclear bomb of its own. Thus started the Arms Race, in which both countries attempted to gain the upper hand in terms of the number of nuclear warheads each possessed. However, the Arms Race ended when several treaties in arms reduction were passed. I believe that in the end, the United States and the Soviet Union realized that one country would eventually win, and the balance of power would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically, in popular depictions of arms races, the political calculations that start and regulate the pace of the game remain obscure. As Charles H. Fairbanks, Jr., has noted, The strange result is that the activity of the other side, and not one s own resources, plans, and motives, becomes the determinant of one s behavior. And what constitutes the finish line of the game is the province of assertion, rather than analysis. Many onlookers, and some participants, have claimed that the likelihood of war increases as the accumulation of arms proceeds apace. A close examination of the historical evidence reveals a different picture. Political purposes almost always drive and govern arms races. It is common for a major race to be initiated by a state interested in changing the political status quo. In some cases, the response of states content with the status quo is swift and resolute, but in other cases it is constrained by domestic political or economic considerations or diverted by diplomatic calculations. The course of an arms race has frequently exacerbated a sense of rivalry and occasionally even determined the timing of a war; but most often it has ended in a political settlement between rivals or in a decision by one side to moderate its buildup. The first competitive buildup in which contemporaries used the arms race metaphor seems to have been the naval rivalry in the late nineteenth century, in which France and Russia challenged Britain in the context of ... • 11. Similarities Between Easter And Greek Easter Come every April, I would throw on my clothes and run out to our Dolmades tree to pick leaves to prepare for our traditional dinner. My grandfather grew up in Sparta Greece. He grew up celebrating a different occasion that most people do not. Most families across the world, celebrate a tradition known as Easter. The whole family comes over, turkey and mashed potatoes are spread out all over the table, and you re waiting for the moment your mom tells you that it s time to eat. However, my family is different. Instead of celebrating Easter we celebrate Greek Easter. Both are quite similar in ways but have very different traditional values and most importantly, food. Initially, my grandfather would celebrate Greek Easter when he was a child and then brought the tradition to my family. However, the food prepared wasn t easily accessible to him when he was a child. Growing up in Greece, food and money were scarce. To add, he grew up during World War I, soldiers would scavenge through his village frequently. Roaming house to house taking any supplies and food they could get their hands on. With that being said, in order to celebrate Greek Easter, he had to find leaves, rice, and all the essential needs to prepare the food. Walking through town barefoot, he would only find limited supplies to make the food. In the passage on page 55, the metaphor referring to the therapy meeting as bunch of chickens at a peckin party uses an animal motif to further emphasize the inhuman way Big Nurse retains control. The alliteration peckin party and blood and bones (Kesey, 55) underscores the seriousness of the meeting. Miss Ratched puts up a pleasant facade giving the illusion that her motives are for the greater good of her patients. Why, friend, that s most unlikely (57). Miss Ratched s job is to keep order in the ward at all costs. She does not act out of pure obligation to do her job well, but enforces her authority even at the expense of the patient s progress. Miss Ratched s treatment of Billy is proof of how she casts aside patient s advancement and wellbeing to ensure strict adherence to the rules. Billy desires to live a normal life but Miss Ratched squashes his dreams and keeps him under her thumb. Sadly, when McMurphy schemes to give Billy a real sexual encounter, he gets caught. The skin is a continuously selfrenewing organ, and squames are constantly shed from the skin surface as the final stage of terminal differentiation, having begun their migration from the basal layer ~4 weeks earlier12. Invaginations and appendages $watermark text Cutaneous invaginations and appendages, including sweat glands (eccrine and apocrine), sebaceous glands and hair follicles, are likely to be associated with their own unique microbiota13 (FIG. 1). Eccrine glands, which are more abundant than apocrine glands, are found on virtually all skin surfaces and continuously bathe the skin surface with their secretion, which is composed mainly of water and salt. The primary role of eccrine sweat is thermoregulation through the release of latent heat from the evaporation of water. Additional functions of eccrine glands include excretion of water and electrolytes, and acidification of the skin, which prevents the colonization and growth of microorganisms. Apocrine glands, which are located in the axillary vault (armpit), nipple and genitoanal regions, respond to adrenaline by producing milky, viscous, odourless secretions. • 14. Essay on Class, Socialization, and Politics Elections are at the core of the American political system. They are the way we choose our government, the source of government authority, and a means by which the people can influence public policy. For most Americans, voting is the only form of political participation. Essential questions to ask concerning these issues are: Who votesand why? What influences people to become voters? And what influences how they vote? It is important to approach these issues from a sociological standpoint addressing such matters as socializationand social stratification. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Introduction to Sociology Pg. 222) Within this class system are three broad overlapping categories: a working class, a middle class, and an upper class. People are placed within these categories based on their occupation, income, and wealth. The working class receives the lowest income and fills blue collar jobs in factories and farms, as well as white collar positions like clerical and secretarial jobs in offices. The middle class consists of professionals like teachers, engineers, small business people, and skilled workers. The upper class, often called the elite or ruling class is composed of those who run our major economic and political institutions and receive the highest earnings for doing so. Class as reflected in education, income, and occupation, does influence people s attitudes on a variety of issues. People in the working class tend to be liberal in wanting greater economic equality and more programs dealing with social welfare. This liberalism on economic issues contrasts strongly with their ideas on civil liberties. Members of the middle class tend to be more conservative in their economic views and more liberal on issues such as free speech and respect for civil rights. Therefore, class attitudes on political questions are both liberal and conservative. Literary Analysis Of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn The Everlasting Tree An American classic is a novel that has beautiful language, complex characters that change throughout the novel and is timeless. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just that. Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl s coming of age during the early 1900 s. Smith wanted to publish a novelthat showed the American Dream and the struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered an American classic because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being poor prevented attaining that dream and the impact of Francie being a woman with the injustices she faced. • 17. Difference Between The Spatiality Of Position And Situation The Difference Between the Spatiality of Position and Situation In the third chapter of Part 1 of Phemomenology of Perception Meurlo Ponty discusses the orientation of the body and how we perceive of it within the world. To do this he introduces two key concepts; spatiality of position and spatiality of situation. Both these concepts apply to our experiences being a body within the world but have very distinct features regarding our perceptions of our bodies and how we conceive of and interact with the world. This paper will look at the distinction between the two concepts using Meurlo Ponty s Schnieder and attempting to determine the significance of defining these two concepts in such a way. To begin, Meurlo Ponty starts by discussing how the parts of our body relate to each other in a very particular way. We do not conceive of ourselves as a collection of closely spatially related organs but rather as a whole contributing to our body schema (PhP 100). Our body schema is a gradually developing psychological construct that helps us develop a summary of our experiences as a body including out movement as a whole and unifies us a being (PhP 100). The body schema that we develop plays into the spatiality of position and the spatiality of situation and how the body appears to us. Spatiality of position refers to the body within space, in this case the body is perceived of as part of the external objective world. Meurlo Ponty says that this conceptis consistent with ideaof ... • 18. The Drawbacks of Gun Control Legislation Gun control is many issues of this nation summed up into two words. In the point of view of some people gun control is a crime issue, while to others it is a rights issue. Gun control also is a safety issue and believe it or not, an education issue. Within each of these problems, there are those who want guncontrol legislation, and those like myself, who want less gun control legislation. The second amendment states that we as citizens have the right to bear arms and protect ourselves. Gun control only keeps the good guys from obtaining firearms. Bad guys will always have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street sales. Another drawback of any and all gun control legislation is that they only affect law abiding citizens. By clarification a criminal is someone who breaks the law. Therefore, passing gun control legislation to control crime committed by criminals is disagreeable. According to the (NRA) National Rifle Association, only four criminals have been taken into custody while attempting to legally purchase a firearm. Criminals do not purchase guns legally. They have other ways to get guns, such as the black market or theft. Many citizens are for new gun control laws, but many are against them. Often they labeled unfit to perform many jobs outside of child bearing and domestic chores, even considered less intelligent than men are. In the past, this attitude translated into fewer jobs for women, below average pay, and poor working conditions. This continues today, despite the many great advances women have made in the past 100 years. This is evident in the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) fields, where a man is far more likely to get the position than a woman is. The second stanza gives the details of how the father was knocking over pans and shelves. No fun event would require continuous destruction to the house. The reader also sees the mother in a seemingly helpless state as the father continues to damage the house. She seems to be in a state of dismay as her husband carries on his behavior. Her frown shows that his actions sadden her but she is powerless to stop him. One would think that a smile would be more appropriate. This supports the abuse aspect because she would not be frowning if it was a joyous exchange between the son and father. In the last two stanza s, Roethke describes the vivid details of the beating. He describes how one hand clinches the boy s wrist. Clinch seems to be a rather strong word and it indicates a use of forceful grabbing. If this were a happy dance, the author would not use such a strong description. Lines 11 12 shows how the father tries to hit the son but due to his intoxication he misses and grazes the son s ear with the belt buckle. Shifted to different directions by the different obstacles encountered, the river finds different routes to get to the destination it desires and life mimics its nature as many avenues close and others open. Starting with liberalism s demand for increased individual freedom, what began as a small movement eventually transformed into a culture wide fight for social justice and economic growth to create a free market where, ideally, no government would be needed. Activists term this modern movement neo liberalism, or global market liberalism (capitalism), which calls for free trade policies. While adopting such a system for American cities has been advocated by many people for its economic benefits, it also necessarily creates new relations between the citygovernment and the residents who live there, which in turn affects the urban environment and social relations within the city. The question is a persistent one in our place and time: to globalize, or not to globalize? Globalization requires highly specialized services, telecommunications, infrastructure, and industrial services. Economic globalization has mostly been represented in terms of the duality between national and global, where the global gains power and advantages at the expense of the national. He also stated that in most cases, fingerprint evidence has been more reliable and can be important in order to prove someone s innocence or find a criminal. I personally, agree with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable than eyewitness testimony. Like he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does not take a video which we can later see and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime. Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is because the mind is very easy to trick. Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with someone else, either someone involved in the crime or by being asked leading questions by authorities. Statistics show that 70% of wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence project, nd). As Dr. Dror said, the DNA expert might make some mistakes, DNA testing is still better and more reliable than eyewitness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Judges When judges are spoken of as a group, they are referred to as the judiciary. There are many different levels of judges, but the basic function is the same at all levels: judges are there to adjudicate on disputes in a fair, unbiased way, applying the legal rules of England and Wales. There is no clear cut division between civil and criminal judges, as many judges at the various levels are required to sit for both types of case. This in itself causes problem as, before their appointment, most judges will have specialised in one area of law. The head of the judiciary is the Lord Chief Justice. • 37. Proposal Essay Depression Depression can move in on a person quickly or creep in like a fog. It can be a visceral experience, like a blow to the gut or a heavy burden suddenly pressing down on one s shoulders. It can affect one s experience of the world: if it s sunny outside, somehow it seems dull and cold; if it s gray, the gray gets heavier. Have you ever been depressed? How do you stand against it; how do you push back the gray veil? How do you cope with depression and even work to break out of it? One song that always cheers me is Dobie Gray s Drift Away ( And when I m feeling blue, a guitar s comin through to sooth me. Thanks for the joy that you ve given me... ). Sometimes music can be used as a catalyst, something through which to channel your anger (depression can stem from deep anger [McCrary 1998]) and pain. For that, I recommend Mary J. Blige s No More Cryin from her The Breakthrough album (2005). Other songs I recommend from that album are Take Me As I Am and Good Woman Down. Finally, because depression can also stem from fear, I recommend listening to Mindkiller, by Adam Freeland off of his Now and Them album (2004). Blast this song and remind yourself that, as the lyrics say, Fear is the mind killer. • 38. Pay It Forward Reflection A young boy in social studies class is given an assignment, along with the rest of the students, to come up with an idea that could change the world. As well as coming up with an idea, the students also have to put it into action. Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know nor understand how a kid his age can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from school, he passes up a site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can change the world comes to him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help three, and so on. This begins his plan to Pay it Forward. The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by Mimi Leder at Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG 13 drama. Starring in this movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt (Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment (Trevor McKinney), Jon Bon Jovi (Arlene s husband), and Angie Dickinson (Arlene s mother). The main idea of the movie is for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and do it not just talk about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out bigger than he could have imagined. The acting portrayed in this movie by Haley Joel Osment as the young Trevor McKinney is excellent. Trevor McKinney is a kid that is wise beyond his years and very courageous. Right now she is learning the basics and having a hard time focusing but that is expected being her first year. The reason I chose Carolyn is because since this is her first time playing basketballon a team and her first sport, there is no muscle memory developed as of yet. I can analyze her foul shot and movements and see raw unrehearsed kinetics of her movements. The methods of data collection I will use to analyze Carolyn s movement skills in the fouls shot are a digital camcorder recording of sagittal plane of her dominant side, also frontal plane view. • 44. The Effects Of Home Environment On Children Abstract The use of child daycare has been debated endlessly. It has become hard to determine how it may aid in the development of a child s cognition or if it hurts it instead. This is partly because of the wide variety of types of child care and the opportunities that are given to young children. Fortunately, measures have been created to help standardize what a daycare does and how it is run. In this paper, several studies are assessed and the criteria that daycares are held to are evaluated. The effect of home environment is compared to the effect of a child being at daycare during the day. It is important to establish a high quality daycare while simultaneously engaging the child in a healthy life at home. Introduction Daycare centers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ( Daycare Centers, 1997 2016). This organization in daily activities is a good characteristic of a high quality daycare center, in which children s brains develop the most. In addition change of environment can help stimulate the children s senses. When the group of kids takes a trip outside, they have the opportunity to express themselves more freely and develop in ways that they wouldn t be able to inside. Lower quality daycares that may not be as certified or even informal daycare, where a relative watches over a child, has shown to not assist children s cognitive development as much. They may not have the facilities to let the children go outside and therefore, they lose that advantage that kids in high quality daycare have. Many studies have shown how certain aspects of daycare affect how children develop cognitive including experiments in language development and the effects of informal daycare. Defining Quality of Daycare Many studies by credited organizations, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the American Psychological Association, have been conducted in order to examine the effects of daycare on the cognitive development of children at or around preschool age. Seasonal affective disorder is a mood disorder characterized by depression, which occurs around the same time every year (Partonen, 1998). It is hypothesized that being deficient in vitamin D is a reason for having seasonal affective disorder. We have researched four different methods of preventing vitamin Ddeficiency and seasonal affective disorder. The most used methods of achieving adequate vitamin D levels were found to be indoor tanning, natural light, light therapy and vitamin D supplementation. This research is important because it affects the well being and quality of life in every day people. During this project, we will assess which of the following four methods: indoor tanning, natural light, light therapy, or vitamin D supplementation is the most effective way to treat seasonal affective disorder.
