Title: Replacing Fossil Fuels – How Do We Scale Up Without Compromising On Food And Environment?
Dr Reinhold Mann, Battelle Malaysia
Integrated Science: Merging scientific disciplines to address global challengesDuPont
DuPont's Senior Vice President and Chief Science & Technology Officer, Doug Muzyka, addressed the 2013 Council for Chemical Research (CCR) conference on May 20, 2013.
The world is facing unprecedented challenges, brought on partly due to the increasing demands of a growing population. Muzyka challenged the chemical industry, who plays an important role in providing sustainable energy solutions, to continue to differentiate and diversify chemical offerings. According to Muzyka, our ongoing success will require continued integration of science, diversification of ideas and collaboration.
Innovation diffusion: Dissemination circuits of improved cookstoves in Maroua...AI Publications
Household cooking with solid fuels in traditional cookstoves is detrimental to health, the environment and socio-economic development. Hence, a range of Improved Cookstoves (ICSs) technological innovation is available. Current diligence to ICS focuses on the ‘‘triple benefits’’ they provide-improved health and time savings for households, preservation of forests and associated ecosystem services, and reducing emissions that contribute to global climate change. In spite of the purported advantages of such technologies, little is known about successful approaches to their dissemination in Maroua. More so, scientific publications on the ICS dissemination circuits are scant. This study grants in-depth analyses of dissemination circuits of ICS technology in Maroua. The study employed a qualitative case study research design. Qualitative data was collected for a period of nine months through reconnaissance surveys, field visits/observation, photographs taking and in-depth interviews. Collected data was presented and analysed using qualitative statistical techniques including figure, percentage, graph and a plate. It was found that ICSs was first introduced in the town by some French organisations in a bid to reduce the consumption of fuelwood and the pressure it exerts on the already degraded forest, and the actors involved in the dissemination of the ICSs include the government, NGOs and CIGs, and private individuals (friends and relatives). The dissemination circuits employed by these actors include sensitization and free donations, the mass media, and interpersonal and interactive channels. Of these, the latter is the most popular and practicable (36%). This study champions that the dissemination circuits currently employed are deficient for the area (the mass media for instance records only a trivial 4% of circuits used), and so the use of traditional three stone fire place is still topping the list of different types of cookstoves commonly used. It provides suggestions which if implemented, will promote successful large scale dissemination and adoption of ICSs technology, intensify dissemination circuits and stimulate ICS market transformation in the area.

Sustainable Energy Principles And Practice December 2018Martin Scherfler
Sustainable Energy Principles & Practice is an initiative using Auroville and its outstanding experience in human unity & sustainable living as a platform for the learning and personal growth of students from around the world.
A learning-in-action program, it connects core human values with system thinking and hands-on work experience by introducing participants to local and global energy issues, policies and by exploring possible interventions that contributed to addressing global climate change and local issues of energy poverty and livelihood. The program is based on the 3H approach that nurtures hands (skills), head (competencies) and heart (inner capacities) of all participants. 13 students participated in this 10-day program held in December 2018 at Auroville International Township in Tamil Nadu, India.
The project’s main focus was to discuss Hawaii’s main energy source, the alternative energy sources available to Hawaii, and the advantages and disadvantages of each energy source. It also included a list of groups and organizations in Hawaii that promotes a more sustainable lifestyle.

Review on Biogas Production in NigeriaAJSERJournal
One of the greatest challenges facing the Nigerian societies now and in the future is the reduction of green
house gas emissions, energy generation, power supply and thus preventing the climate change. It is therefore necessary
to look for an alternative with renewable and recycling sources, such as biogas. Biogas can be produced from various
organic waste streams or as a byproduct from industrial processes. Beside energy production, the degradation of
organic waste through anaerobic digestion offers other advantages, such as the prevention of odor release and the
decrease of pathogens. Moreover, the nutrient rich digested residues can be utilized as fertilizer for recycling the
nutrients back to the fields. However, the amount of organic materials currently available for biogas production is
limited and new substrates as well as new effective technologies are therefore needed to facilitate the growth of the
biogas industry all over the world. Hence, major developments have been made during the last decades regarding the
utilization of lignocelluloses biomass, the development of high rate systems and the application of membrane
technologies within the anaerobic digestion process in order to overcome the shortcomings encountered. The
degradation of organic material requires a synchronized action of different groups of microorganisms with different
metabolic capacities. Recent developments in molecular biology techniques have provided the research community
with a valuable tool for improved understanding of this complex microbiological system, which in turn could help
optimize and control the process in an effective way in the future.

2. Purpose Statement
Biogas as the most feasible and most economical
alternative to generate electricity to overcome power
shortage in Pakistan.
3. Scope of the Study
The scope of this research is to develop the awareness about possible
opportunities with which we can generate energy on low cost. This way,
this study will provide relevant and useful information to people of biogas
benefits.
4. Introduction
The first plant for digestion was built in Bombay during 1859 and reached
in Britannia in 1895.
After World War II biogas was used to control the reduction of energy
supplies.
More than 600 plants digesters are working in Europe
This is the only process through which we can use waste material in
productive way.

WAPDA is still single governing body of planning and installation
of power projects in Pakistan and WAPDA has insufficient number
of qualified members.
Political will
Political will is most important factor in any national interest.
15. RECOMNDATION
Awareness in literate people
government should make steps to aware people about benefits and
uses
Facilitation of citizens
