By
Sarojini Naidu
“Coromandal Fishers” is a poem written by
Sarojini Naidu. Her first collection of poems
titled ‘Golden Threshold’, was published in
1905. Her poems are in English, but have an
Indian soul. The Indian Freedom struggle was
the heart and soul of her work.
‘Coromandal Fishers’ is a poem by
Sarojini Naidu. It deals with the dreams,
determination and hard work of the fishermen.
They are willing to fight against the odds in life
with confidence in order to fulfil their dreams.
The Speaker in this poem is a fisherman.
He asks his fellow fishermen to rise and get
ready for fishing. He and his friends have to
gather their nets from the shore and set their

Their dream is to catch fish which is
the leaping wealth of the sea. It is their
occupation because they are the sons of
the sea.
