Descriptive Essay On Animals
On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni
Vergara Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to
have an employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region.
Throughout the tour, we observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I
decided to focus on five: The first species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx
rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order
carnivora, which consists of meat eating organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae
commonly referred to as the family of cats. Found all throughout North America, from southern
Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and
deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because they can camouflage with their
environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for their brown reddish coat
with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them to camouflage,
bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When approaching its
prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using its sharp teeth,
claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet consists of
mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on

Chief Economic Traits of the Beer Industry
Industry Competitive Analysis CHIEF ECONOMIC TRAITS OF THE BEER INDUSTRY The
market size of the beer industry is incredible. The wholesale volume in the beer industry is
approxiametly $13.7 billion. The industry employes almost 40,000 people. The average worker
is paid about $18.27 an hour. As you can see, this is a very large industry which provides many
jobs to the american workforce. The market consists of many competitors, some being very large
and some operating on a very small scale. The competitive rivalry is broken up into three
segments, Natiional, Regional , and Microbrewers. National competitors have a wide market
coverage and generally a large company. Regional competitors are smaller than National in the fact

ex. Light beer, Amber beer, Low Alcohol, And Malt Liquor. Imports are perceived to be better
quality: when in fact, they are really not. Because of this perception, Import beer costs more than
domestic beer does. Imports are differentiated by taste and packaging. Small brewers offer a
superpremium product that is not very differentiated. The main differences can be attributed to the
brewing process, price, and packaging. Scale economies is high among national companies due
to their large size. Their ability to distribute fixed costs is easily done because of the large
volume that is produced. Their is also economies of scale in product extension and brand
proliferation. Regional companies have moderate economies of scale. Regionals do not produce
as much as larger natioanal companies but, they can still spread some of there costs over their
moderate volumes. Local brewers have low economies of scale. Production is so small that it is
very difficult to distribute costs. A local brewer cannot spread the cost of advertising over their
product without having to raise the price of their product considerably. Capacity utilization in the
U.S. Beer industry is between 75% and 85%. The beer industry is suffering from overcapacity.
Despite this, a few companies are still expanding while others are closing down some operations.
Because of flat sales, their is no need to overproduce. Industry

Tatar Argument Against Russia s Annexation Of Crimea
Hundreds of Crimean Tatars launched a blockade of roads from Ukraine to the Crimean
peninsula to protest Russia s annexation of the Crimean peninsula. With help of the members of
the Ukrainian ultra nationalist Pravy Sektor group, the protesters used concrete blocks to partially
seal off the three roads linking mainland Ukraine to Crimea in order to halt the delivery of goods.
Tatar leaders said they were aiming to block supplies to protest the numerous violations of their
rights by Russian authorities . Our goal is to end the occupation of Crimea and to restore the
territorial integrity of Ukraine, Refat Chubarov, one of the expelled leaders of the Crimean Tatar
community, told journalists. Dozens of trucks were backed up at the crossing... Show more content

The Tatar community of Crimea were exiled under orders of Stalin to Central Asia during World
War II, with almost half perishing in harsh conditions. They were only allowed to return to Crimea
at the end of Soviet rule. The demonstrators said they hope their actions would help pressure on the
members of the community, secure the release of detained Tatar activists and see restrictions on
Tatar media lifted. Between 10,000 and 15,000 members of the Tatar community (which has its own
distinct language and culture) are thought to have fled Crimea ever since the Russian flag was
raised on the peninsula.
Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, later said on national television that he would raise the
issue of the rights of the Tatars of Crimea at the General Assembly of the United Nations later this
month.
Despite the annexation by Moscow, Crimea (linked to Russia by only an over burdened ferry link)
is reliant on Ukraine for most of its energy and food supplies. The region has been subjected to
tough sanctions by the West that have seen it cut off from international banking systems and

In different people s eyes, experiences have different meanings through different kinds of people.
Each experiences that individuals encounter which will make different individuals have different
thinking. As the most successful experiences that individuals have this may lead them to a really
high level that maybe others cannot be achieved. Also different kinds of experiences that hear from
others may give you a really big impact or influences. For, Daniel Gilbert, a professor which studies
humanpsychology, he writes the essay Immune to Reality , he thinks that people depend on

Are Diesels Better Than Gasoline Engines
Are diesels better than gasoline engines? A significant segment of the consumer market thinks so,
especially in Europe where such engines compose nearly half the vehicles purchased. In the US,
diesels have had difficulty gaining acceptance, with heavy duty pickup trucks and German luxury
cars offering them. But with Audi currently snagged in the Volkswagen diesel scandal mess, a
negative light has been cast on these engines, with some insisting that they re far dirtier than what
manufacturers say they are. Fortunately, not all manufacturers are being dissuaded by such
negativity. Chevrolet now supplies a turbo diesel for its popular midsize pickup trucks, Nissan

Deanna Kuhn Theory Of Cognitive Development
A present time, there are many developmental theories, which cover cognitive, socio emotional, and
physical. Among those theorists, for the purpose of this post, I will be considering two of them.
First, I will be reviewing the Russian psychologist Lev Vygostsky and his sociocultural theory. Next,
I will be looking at Deanna Kuhn and the Metacognitive development theory. One of the
psychologists who made a significant contribution and stimulated a lot of studies in addressing the
cultural impact in human development was Vygostsky. He introduced the sociocultural theory,
which focused on culture transmission from one generation to another. He also theorized with
social interaction, children to acquire the way of thinking and behaving... Show more content on

The definition of metacognition has been broadened to thoughts about thoughts and affective states,
motives, intentions and the ability to consciously and deliberately monitor and regulate one s
knowledge, processes, cognitive and affective states, motives and intentions (Papaleontiou Louca,
2008). Kuhn believes that metacognition is a high level construct, which can be conceptualized in a
developmental framework. Additionally during development young children, they develop
capabilities of metaknowing that many adult do not master. Therefore in early age metacognitive
achievements serve as foundations of higher order thinking in adulthood, which include scientific
thinking (Kuhn, 2000). She believes that knowing have to have a purpose or a goal because the
simple fact of knowing what you know does not have much impact on your knowledge unless that
knowledge serves a purpose. So in this developmental framework, she suggested that there are two
terms: metastrategic knowing which refers to metaknowing about procedural knowing.
Metastrategic knowing can be then divided into metatask knowledge about task goals and
metastrategic knowledge referring to strategies a person has available to meets the goals (Kuhn,
2000). Metastrategic and metacognitive are important because they provide an explanation to as to
why cognitive development occurs or fails to occur. Additionally the metacognition development
has laid foundations for contemporary theories of learning

Stereotypes In Disney s Film Brave
Disney s famous feminist film, Brave, takes place in the Highlands of Scotland in the tenth century.
Long before authors such as Alexander MacDonald and Mary Macpherson could write their famous
poems, long before the Highland diaspora. Oftentimes, marginalized groups are pinned against one
another by the group(s) in control. Scottish tourism agencies, Visit Scotlandspecifically, were
excited for the release of Brave and created a Discover Scotland campaign that was inspired by
the film to draw tourists (Carrell). Brave seems to play into the stereotypes about Scottish people,
from the red hair, to the huge manly man, even the bears that are key to the film, have a rooted
history in Scottish folklore. In turn, the Disney film, Brave, the main character, Merida, does break
away from gendered stereotypes which seems to blind audiences from... Show more content on

The allowance for stereotypes to be so common in Brave plays into the continued racist narrative
that affects Scottish people to this day. A viewer should be critical of the film even if it breaks
away from the patriarchal hold that has controlled Disney films for nearly a century.
To illustrate that Merida is different from any princess, the film opens with her shooting arrows
and riding a horse the way a man of the time might. Disney and Pixar did work together on this
film that at first held quite the unique premise, Merida, instead of allowing suitors to compete for
her hand in marriage, would fight for her own hand in marriage. A story that would be historically
inaccurate, but be unique and create a strong image for not only Scottish women, but women as a
whole. Rather, Disney dropped this plot line in the duration of the film to incorporate the folk
story of the Bear and the Arrow, into a mother/daughter plotline. Merida is ahead of her time as she
is a great example of Virginia Woolf s concept of the androgynous mind. The concept of the

Most of these cases are usually handled by International Arbitration or International Court. ASEAN
rarely gets involved due to their non involvement principles. Many had seen this as a failure within
the region and had even labelled ASEAN as toothless and lacking of clear mandate (Gil, 2014).
In this article, it will use the case of Singapore and Malaysia in studying how ASEAN solve
international law issues mainly, related to borders and boundaries among ASEAN state members.
Singapore and Malaysia had always have a unique relations among them. This is due to factors such
as geography, history, politics, ideology, economy, culture and ethnicity as well as interdependence
with each other with regards to economy and security (Omar, n.d). However, due to these unique
relations conflicts and tenses sometimes occurs between the two countries.
One of the conflicts that occurs between the two countries is the conflicts with regards to Pedra

of Malaysia and 28miles of the shore of Singapore (Omar, n.d). Malaysia had first published a
map in 1974 after their territorial sea was extended to 12n.m, it shows that the island was a part of
Singapore territories (Trost, 1993:28). However, Trost noted that the disputes began in 1979 when

Essay On Wrestling Match
Injury taught me I need to learn how to face challenges. Shawn Johnson. My first varsity
wrestling match came in the form of a quadrangular in Miller. I remember it was snowing the
whole bus ride there. I was very excited as I felt as though it was going to be a successful night.
Everything was going right until I heard the crack, from there I knew, my wrestling season was over.
My first varsity match was exciting, but it was nothing special. I prepared for it the same as I
had every match for the past 10 years. I went onto the mat and went to business right away taking
a commanding 8 0 lead going into the 3rd period. With nearly 30 seconds left, the match took an
unexpected turn. I was on bottom trying to escape when I rolled over my hand and heard a crack,
pain instantly overtook my body, as I looked down I saw the bones poking through my hand. I was
so shocked how things can change so quickly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Between Creationism And Creationism
The first words in the Bible are, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis
1:1, English Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this
verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it
possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution
and Creationismhave been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before
examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be
proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of
Genesis 1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture can be seen in two points of view: Old Earth
Creationism and Theistic Evolution. Old Earth Creationism believes God created everything out
of nothing, the same as Young Earth Creationism, but does not think it was done over a literal six
days, so it can be considered as semi literal (Fowler, 2010). They believe each day meant a period
time; and thus think the earth is over four billion years old. This view point combines evolutionary
theory with a semi literal translation with the text in Genesis 1 and 2. This leads to a very long
process of thinking and an even harder process to explain. Theistic Evolution differs and takes the
approach that God caused the Big Bang and used evolution to create the universe and thus takes a
non literal approach (Marinov, 2014). This means that they believe everything was created through
evolution, but with God s hand guiding it. This theory coincides with modern scientific thought.
The authority of scripture plays a role in the non literal and semi literal interpretations of scriptures.
In order to have a non literal, or semi literal viewpoint on interpretation, one has to understand that
that it means they cannot think the Bible is completely accurate with every aspect and thus cannot
be taken literally. This means that the text is meant to taken literarily and

Molleda (2009) stated that the truly transnational corporations must account for much wider
complexities compared to the smaller and locally focused companies. Various aspects, such as
mergers and acquisitions, new product introductions, technological changes, layoffs, and
globalisations could create opportunities and challenges for these organisations while
communicating with their key publics or stakeholders (Lattimore et al. 2009). Consequently, these
truly transactional entities, maintaining a global reach and presence, are required to know the
means of organising and operating their public relations(PR) programs on a truly global basis

My Journey In The Odyssey In The Odyssey
In The Odyssey by Homer, an epic poem from Ancient Greece, parallels can be drawn from
Odysseus s adventure and my life. Odysseus and I have goals that we strive to reach, furthermore,
we will not stop until we accomplish them. On our journeys to reach these goals we have
temptations and obstacles put before us that we must overcome to attain our dreams. Luckily, we
have mentors and help from divine intervention to guide us on the right path to grasp these
ambitions. Odysseuss goal is to see my native land again (Homer 142) and be reunited with his
family. One of my main goals in life is to attend college at Penn State University. Our goals may
be different but one can draw multiple parallels in our journeys. I have abounding obstacles in
my way on the boulevard to my main goal. One of these hindrances is high school. High school
is proving to be the learning ground for life. It is always providing challenges that I must
overcome to reach my ambitions. One current challenge is my senior English class. I have a
feeling that it is going to take a great deal more effort than what I have ever had to put into any
academic study. I know that I will do all that I can to conquer this burden. If I work vigorously
while staying focused, I should be able to surmount the work I have to complete. I will have to use
my intelligence and cunningness to pass this class. High school draws many parallels with
Odysseus s adventure due to the fact they both have a multitude of obstacles

There are three types of plea bargains, the first allows the defendant to enter a plea of guilty for
fewer charges, the second may provide a lesser sentence, and the third allows the defendant to

The American Girls Softball League
In the year 1943, Philip K. Wrigley founded the All American Girls Softball League. He formed
the league to entertain baseball fans while many of the men were away fighting WWII. What
began as a softball league transformed to baseball league that eventually became known as the All
American Girls Professional BaseballLeague (AAGPBL). The league was designed with fifteen
teams made up of twenty to twenty five women spread out across America. The league existed
for twelve years, from 1943 to 1954. This was a period of time when women were not supposed
to have professional careers outside of the home, much less careers that involved professional
athletics. Girls were expected to grow up to be wives and mothers, not baseball players. The
women of the AAGPBL were athletic pioneers who pursued and captured their dreams of
playing professional baseball in much the same way as men had for decades. World War Two
opened the door for the women of the AAGPBL to take a huge role in the American public. On
December 7th, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, becoming the largest attack on
American soil until the events of 9/11. The United States went to war almost immediately, sending

To be truly American is a hard thing to achieve. There are so many different ways to live life.
The American way, of course, is the easy way. At least, that is the common perception of the
American way. The whole world sees America as a lazy country that does not even want to keep
its own companies in it. America outsources, takes what other countries have discovered, and

Understandably, no one wants to do time in prison, especially when they are innocent. America,
in comparison to Rick Tyler, could be looked at like a figurative fugitive. The country has been
under constant ridicule from other countries, claiming that America has been nothing but a

countries believe that America deserves all of the bad things it gets. Rick Tyler ran, and people

Explain the Way in Which You Would Establish Ground Rules...
Having explored the three methods of setting ground rules during session 2 of PTTLS course, it is
evident that for the ground rules to be effective, determining the appropriate method of ground
rules setting is crucial to informing how the learners will be likely to respond to the ground rules
and how this will later affect the session or sessions to be delivered.
The three methods of setting ground rules offer advantages and disadvantages depending on the
context of the lesson and the dynamics of the group. For example the teacher led process provides
the teacher with a clear set of uniformed rules and offers the teacher an opportunity to consider
issues which may otherwise have been overlooked such as the learning environment and ... Show

The learners would have no choice but to adhere to the rules as they would be bound by their own
principles. This method does fail to acknowledge the teachers experience in understanding the
dynamics of groups and how the teacher could provide a valuable contribution to ground rules
which consider the needs of individual learners. This method may also inhibit the teacher from
delivering an effective lesson as consideration may not have been applied as to whether the rules are
suitable for the teaching environment. For instance taking into account the actual content of the
lesson to be delivered and forgetting to include the health and safety of the learners.
In establishing an effective set of ground rules for my learners, I would consider a method that
offers the teacher the opportunity to create a learning environment that is safe, efficient and
stimulating for the learner (Armitage, A, et al, Teaching Training in Post Compulsory Education
,
OU, 2007).
This would be implemented through getting the learners to negotiate their own ground rules with
assistance from myself. I would take charge of facilitating the discussion to ensure all learners had
an opportunity to contribute, and to ensure the inclusion of crucial rules which allow me to

Chamberlain Case (1984). On 29 October 1982, in the Northern Territory Supreme Court, Lindy
Chamberlain was convicted of murdering her nine week old daughter, Azaria, by cutting her throat
in the front seat of the family car at a camping area beside Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia.
Her husband, Michael, was convicted as an accessory. Appeals to the Federal Court and the High
Court were unsuccessful. The convictions were quashed in 1988 after a judicial inquiry.
Few cases have generated as much public controversy. The role of the High Court in this drama
was, however, a minor one. Controversy did not stem from the novelty and significance of the
doctrinal issues raised by the case but from the facts : the question of what had ... Show more

With no body, no evidence of motive and no eyewitness evidence that even vaguely incriminated the
Chamberlains, the Crown case was wholly circumstantial, and supported in the main by the claims
of expert witnesses to the effect that the state of Azaria s clothing was inconsistent with a dingo
attack, that there was a bloody handprint on the jumpsuit; and that substantial quantities of blood,
including the blood of an infant, had been found throughout the Chamberlain car.
There were many problems with the methods and findings of these witnesses, only some of which,
however, could be effectively communicated to a jury in a criminal trial. The Crown invited the
jury to infer that in a space of five to ten minutes, during which Lindy returned to the tent with
the baby and six year old Aidan, she had cut Azaria s throat and stuffed the body into Michael s
camera case while her son apparently stood by. She had then raced Aidan back to the barbecue
area, where normal life was resumed, and displayed no signs of unease or distress until the
opportunity presented itself of blaming a dingo for the baby s disappearance. The Chamberlains
were said to have later buried the body, then exhumed it so that the clothing could be placed in a
strategic location to lend further credibility to the dingo tale.
In February 1984, the High Court refused Lindy Chamberlain s appeal by majority (Murphy and
Deane dissenting). Earlier, Brennan (sitting alone) had refused her

Freaky Economics Essay
Economics; is an important subject to understand the workings of finances. The common definition
of economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution and consumption of
goods. Freakonomics, the title of this book has the reader wondering what this book is about.
From the title and even the cover picture it is clear it is not your average text book on economics.
Yet, the authors have collected data and analyzed it to come to their conclusions on some unusual
hypotheses. The photo on the cover is actually a good visual of the books content, it looks like
apple on the outside but is an orange on the inside, signifying there is a hidden side of everything,
just as the book subtitle reads. Authors Steven Levitt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study of incentives is how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people
want or need the same thing. (16) An incentive is simply a means of urging people to do more of a
good thing and less of a bad (17). An interesting concept the author points out is Morality, represents
the way that people would like the world to work whereas economics represents how it actually
does work (11). The authors several times oddly bring up that there is no unifying theme to the
book, giving the impression the book is not well thought out. Regardless, there are some things that
tie the unusual examples together, one being the theory of incentives as being the motivator. The
other unifying thread is that conventional wisdom is often wrong, that when looking at situations,
layers need to be peeled off and knowing what to measure and how to measure it allows for better
understanding (12 13). The introduction is the last section of the book that doesn t leave the reader
somewhat confused regarding what they are reading, and if it really does relate to economics or is
just quirky stories. It is interesting to see the development of their theory about incentives, as they
investigate what makes something so attractive that sometimes people are willing to cheat and
behave unethically to attain the incentive. Levitt is able to support his hypothesis that incentives

Analysis Of King Henry V
By Shakespeare making audiences question this particular scene in the play and make
Boudreaux 6 the distinction between the paths to win honor, readers and spectators can
conclude that Shakespeare still has a particular fondness for Hotspur over Prince Henry, due to
the fact that Hotspur s actions are identified as the proper way of earning honor. In the end,
Prince Henry s intentions do become more honorable, because he does come to care about the
kingdom in Henry V, but initially; it is selfish reasons that drove him to fight for honor. To
continue the study of honor, Prince Henry becomes King Henry V in Shakespeare s play King
Henry V, and audiences see the continuation of the theme of honor throughout the play. Fast
forwarding to Act Four, Scene Three, audiences hear one of many memorable speeches by King
Henry V during his Crispin Day speech. King Henry V exclaims: This story shall the good man
teach his son, And Crispin Crispian shall ne er go byFrom this day to the ending of the
world,But we in it shall be remembered,We few, we happy few, we band of brothers For he today
that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother. (4.3.56 62) To recap, King Henry V is telling
his men that if they fight, they will become a brother to him, which means calling them his equal.
He tells them it does not matter if they live or die, because they will forever be remembered by all.

Family Farming as Opposed to the Industrial Side of...
The federal government should support the family farms of today rather than the industrial side of
agriculture.
In 1930 there was around seven million farms in the United States, now there is about two
million. Advocates for farming and agriculture are worried about losing farms and farmland
(source E). The total number of farms has fallen dramatically since the 1930s, but the number of
larger farms has grown. Today small farms make up 92 percent of all U.S. farms and the other
eight percent are large and very large family farms and nonfamily farms (source L). Even with
the loss of many farms and farmers, the number of acres of farmland remains constant. The size
of farms has increased, but not all farms are the same size (source E). The technology of today
has made it possible to farm more land with fewer producers (source A). There is 915 million
acres in farmland in the United States and the average farm size is 434 acres. In Kansas there are
around 65,500 farms with 707 acres in average. Eighty eight percent of the Kansas is under
agricultural production (source L). The official definition of a farm according to the United States
Department of Agriculture is any place from which $1000 or more of agricultural products were
produced and sold or normally would have been sold during the census year (source L). Gross cash
income, according to the USDA, is one of the best ways to determine farm size; farms that have
grown quickly and have sales of $250,000 or more are

Kim Souzzi Religion Analysis
Kim Souzzi was 23 when she succumbed glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer that is incurable;
however, her legacy lives on through what in the past was just science fiction. Kim s brain is
cryogenically frozen in the hopes that it one day can be mapped and her conscious be uploaded to
a computer. Experts in the field of neuroscience disagree whether or not the process is possible as
time and technology are potent variables. Despite being riddled with moral, fundamental, and
scientific questions Kim raised funding via her online blog and Reddit. There were mixed
comments on Kim s blog, many supportive of her endeavor and many on the contrary. Ideals clash
when it comes to human mortality. For centuries religion and science are in constant conflict,...

Kim s passion was neuroscience and studying the brain and it is only appropriate that she sought a
higher cause following her death. Kim was denied a legacy dying so young so she hopes for a
second chance with the advance of technology. It is therefore no question of science, religion, or
morals; rather it is that her dying wishes right or wrong. We all have our own rituals surrounding
death. Whether it is burial, cremation, cast into the ocean, or even used to further science, there
is a purpose in the final rite. Kim s story is a touching one because like she states in the video on
New York Times, she could just be buried and nothing more would come from that. Furthermore,
she decides to continue sponsoring her passions even after death. No matter what paradigm or
perspective one takes, Kim pursued what she truly loved in the hope that one day she will be a
part of something greater than herself. Technology and science are not ready for the ambitions
of Kim; however, time is the dependent factor in which science fiction will become science
reality. I support her decision and what she is doing, she follows her ambitions and although
peculiar and eccentric, they are however her final wishes and the opinions of the masses are
irrelevant. The question of whether or not the computer with Kim s conscious is her or not,
because that is a clash of science and philosophy. People are afraid of what they do not know.
Virtual Mortality may be the key to preserving ideas of great minds, musicians, philosophers,
inventors and innovators. Death will not be overcome by the prospect of the digital conscious
rather life will continue. What was once history will continue to the future. Kim s endeavor
represents progress and if possible and successful will change the way death is

Art Nouveau By Edward Burne Jones From The Pre-...
Art nouveau is a elegant decorative art style characterized by ornate patterns of curvilinear lines.
This period of art somewhat rooted from the a mixture of the Arts and Crafts movement, William
Morris, Edward Burne Jones from the Pre Raphaelites and the Japanese style. It became popular
across Europe and the in United States. Art Nouveauas a style is a beautiful mixture of elaborate
Celtic looking patterns, classical elements, flat color and delicate women in nature. This style
breaks the traditional forms from the previous time periods but at the same time, carries it through.
These designers in this time, presented this work as organic forms with rich imagery. Such as
Alphonse Mucha; which he today, is considered the father of this time period, and master of this
style. This era correlates with the brotherhood of the Pre Raphaelites, and with inspirations from the
early Renaissance painters. A melting pot of these famous time periods produced the Art nouveau
movement.
The Art nouveau movement started in Europe around 1890 s and lasted until 1910. It took on many
different characteristics and tried to express the modern world through it s illustrations. There were
many influences and themes across the works and style of Art nouveau. The many designers of this
time looked at past famous works as a foundation and created more of a graphical format within
these Art Nouveau works. Art nouveau designers such as Alphonse Mucha found his greatest

The Instruction Of Spoken Language
The instruction of spoken language is one of the most important for language classrooms since
communication has been the main priority for language teachers. The use of discourse analysis
(DA) for language teaching (LT) has been indispensable; due to the immense number of elements
that contribute significantly to this field. In addition, Schiffrin et al. (2001:707) cited Olshtain and
Celce Murcia who claim that pragmatics and DA are related to languageteaching. Both of these
create essential connections that make teaching of spoken language relevant; nevertheless, there are
more elements are linked to DA and the instruction of this productive skill.
The aim of this paper is to examine how DA relates and benefits LT. First, I would like to... Show

For this reason, spoken production can be improved if these elements are taught adequately.
Nevertheless, a question may be aroused after this, what amount of vocabulary, grammar and
phonology do instructors need to teach?
Teaching speaking effectively goes in hand with DA and several language applications which
focus on how oral speech needs to be delivered. Hence, vocabulary one of the three main
elements is the one that deals with the lexicon of the language. Instructors need to teach words in
context; as a consequence, the new lexis will be storage faster and it will be ready to be used either
in spoken or written language (Scrivener 2011:200).
Therefore, vocabulary plays an important role in the instruction of spoken language. Nonetheless,
words can express more than one meaning and this can cause a couple of difficulties to students
while they are learning such language. As part of this, if DA takes place in the classroom, it can be
found easily that words may vary from meaning to meaning. In addition, DA and semantics also
alter the way that speakers select words to be used. Finch (2003) defines semantics as the study of
the meaning; thus, what words or utterances can be meant at the moment of using them. By the
same token, Lakoff and Johnson (1990) claim that there are two types of meaning literal and
figurative . The first one represents what it has been said; whereas the second one focuses on the

Analysis Of The Book King Leopold s Ghost
King Leopold s Ghost is a nonfiction book about Imperialism in Africa written by Adam
Hochschild. Hochschild was born in New York in 1942 and graduated from Harvard in 1963
with a B.A. degree in history and literature (Interview with Adam Hochschild). He worked as a
reporter for a daily newspaper for two years and then he went on to writing and editing
magazines. In 1986 he wrote his first book, and then twelve years later he wrote his second:
King Leopold s Ghost. Hochschild said he writes about subjects he s interested in. In the
introduction to King Leopold s Ghost he states that he knew nothing about the history of the
Congo until he noticed a footnote in a book (Hochschild 3). Hochschild said that when you come
across something striking, you remember where you were when you read it. In this particular
experience he was in an airliner crossing the United States. He read a quotation by Mark Twain
about the caliber of what happened in the Congo and was startled (3), this sparked his interest in
the Congo and inspired him to start researching to see if the mass murders he read about were
true. The book, King Leopold s Ghost covers information from the 1840s (Hochschild 21) to
now about the Congo past and present, but King Leopold s reign of terror was from 1885 1906
(History of the Belgian Congo). The phrase reign of terror is not an exaggeration, for King
Leopold s ownership of the Congo was very horrific. It all started when Henry Morton Stanleywent

Cultural Differences Between Hofstede s Six Dimensions
Cultural Differences in Hofstede s Six Dimensions
In a global economy, the way employees interact within the workplace is critical to the way that
business is conducted and is ultimately successful. Leaders and managers who interact within the
global setting need to understand differences between each person s culture, regardless of whether
or not the interaction is amongst employees or clients. These differences can include mannerisms or
methods of etiquette that may seem strange or unique to those from a different cultural setting.
Other differences might include the way that organizations in different nations may or may not be
willing to do business or work with other groups based on race, gender, ethnicity, sex, or religion.
With a utility such as Geert Hofstede s Six Dimensions, one can gain insight into the differences
between countries the world over regarding these cultural differences (Hofstede).
Hofstede s Six Dimensions Geert Hofstede is a famous social scientist that was born in Haarlem,
Netherlands in 1928 (Hofstede, 2015). He has over 240 major publications addressing the different
dimensions related to leadership and management within the context of diverse national cultures

infrastructure of other nations outside of their own. The six dimensions that Hofstede uses to

The coloring was bleak, with Precious dream sequences being done in bright flashy colors and
high resolution (Review). For instance, the scene where Precious is at the Each One, Teach
One School. Here the colors are red, yellow, blue, and green, and as she walks down the hallway
into the classroom she dissolves, she is double exposed and the lighting turns bright, coppery
and almost cloudlike. It s as if it were saying that Precious is walking into an unknown world.
There is also the scene where Precious is standing at the top of the stairs looking down at her
mother. The overhead shot, the lighting and color were used to perfection to reflect a sense of
power for Precious. Here, Precious was finally on top . Even the scenes where she is being raped
by her father and then we are looking at pieces of meat sizzling in hot grease are representative of
how Precious felt; she was just a piece of meat. The cinematography resembles that of a
documentary where the use of the camera has a different style to give you that almost realistic feel.
Its grainy look, hard zooms, and shaky angles add an element that dramatic angles might not in
order fully bring out the Precious pain and desperation (Review). All the elements of this movie
from the editing to the cinematography were superb together. The acting, editing, music,
cinematography worked beautifully together to tell one powerful story of redemption and hope in
the face of impossible obstacles

Barriers In Chinese Cinderella
Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life,
however, one constant is that their parents are always there for them. Whether they fix the
problem themselves, or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they
require. A quote from Mending Wall by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the
parents are not there for the child. Something there is that doesn t love a wall, that sends the
frozen ground swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two
can pass abreast (1). In this instance, the child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not
love it. Slowly, the child will break apart, and eventually collapse without the affection and support
they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions
where the child doesn t acquire assistance from any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within
her community that changed her mentality, one being that her self esteem declined, and made her
feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no matter the circumstance. Adeline s step mother,
Niang, never fails to be uncouth towards her, not just by damaging her self esteem, but also
through verbal and physical abuse (whipping, hitting, etc.). I approached her gingerly, trembling
with terror. She slapped my face so hard I almost fell... ...she slapped me with the back of her hand
against my other cheek (Mah 114 115).

The Raft Of The Medusa Essay
The Raft of the Medusa depicts the minute when, following thirteen days drifting on the raft, the
remainder of the fifteen survivors see a ship drawing nearer from a distance. Nau of these
people that a pictured surviving on the raft were most likely cannibals. Cannibalism was the
only way that the survivors were successful. Per an early British analyst, the work is set at a

the greater part of the figures rendered are life sized and those in the frontal area twice life

comes full circle in the figure of the negro waving a cloth toward the boat seen in the distance. In
any case, the composition of the painting gives such energy to the idea of hope among the
wrecked survivors. The raggedy raft is displayed as unsafe as it rides the profound waves, while
the men are rendered as shattered and in despair. One old man holds the cadaver of his child at his

BP also extended its membership to Shell and Brown and Root who joined in the network to
assist one another and effectively benefit from cost reduction and knowledge management.
Infact during a recent development of the Andrew oil field in the North Sea, BP used the VPN
to pass on lessons on the project in real time. This network helped BP and its suppliers and
contractors to radically cut costs and time of the project. BP in Alaska and Colombia also used
similar techniques. The benefits to their eBusiness operation from the use of VPN are easy to

between land based drilling engineers and offshore rig crews. 2.A decrease in the number of
helicopter trips to offshore oil platforms. 3.A reduction in rework due to better collaboration.
4.The avoidance of a refinery shutdown because experts working elsewhere could assist in

The War Of New Orleans
The War of 1812 is probably our most obscure conflict. Although a great deal has been written
about the war, the average American is only vaguely aware of why we fought or who the enemy
was. Even those who know something about the contest are likely to remember only a few
dramatic moments, such as the writing of The Star Spangled Banner, the burning of the nation s
capital, or the Battle of New Orleans. Why is this war so obscure? One reason is that no great
president is associated with the conflict. Although his enemies called it Mr. Madison s War,
James Madison was shy and deferential, hardly measuring up to such war leaders as Abraham
Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, or Franklin Roosevelt. Moreover, the best American generals in this
war Andrew Jackson, Jacob Brown, and Winfield Scott were unable to turn the tide because each
was confined to a one or two theaters in a war that had seven or eight theaters. No one like George
Washington, Ulysses Grant, or Dwight Eisenhower emerged to put his stamp on the war and to
carry the nation to victory. Another reason for the obscurity of this war is that its causes are
complex and little understood today. Most scholars agree that the war was fought over maritime
issues, particularly the Orders in Council, which restricted American trade with the European
Continent, and impressment, which was the Royal Navy s practice of removing seamen from
American merchant vessels. In contemporary parlance, the war was fought

The Greenhouse Movement Helps
There is a quote by a man named David Battisti, who directs the UW s Earth Initiative. Director
Battisti stated, average global temperatures for the past million years have never been more than 2
4 degrees higher than now. If greenhouse emissions continue unchecked, temperatures would likely
be higher by the end of this century than any time since the human species evolved. (Doughton). In
a nutshell, David is saying that there is no way to predict the height climate changecan grow to if
left unchecked. Since temperatures have never reached past a few degrees, how can predictions be
made to see what catastrophes may befall us in the event of temperatures reaching higher than they
have ever been? Today information will be presented to show what happening to our planet, then
more information will be given concerning statistics to show how living a green lifestyle can
benefit our environment. Earth is getting hotter. Almost every scientist agrees with this consensus.
In fact with the dozen climate models in use today, almost all predict average temperature
increases of about 3 11 degrees by the end of the century. This doesn t seem too bad though, but
keep in mind that it only took a drop of 10 degrees to encase much of North America in mile deep
glaciers during the ice age(Doughton). Earth heating up can result in many different national
calamities. One big disaster that can somewhat correlate with rising temperatures is wildfires. They
match up with rising climates for 2

Examples Of Constitutional Compromises
The United States Constitutional Convention brought many conflicts that were solved by
compromises conducted by the United State s government. Among these many compromises, a few
key examples are The Great Compromise, the Commerce Compromise, and the Slave Trade
Compromise. All of these are perfect examples that fit within this year s National History Day
topic, Conflict and Compromise in History .
As previously stated, The Great Compromise was one of the most critical compromises of this time
period. The United States Government was attempting to provide a solution for how each state
was going to be represented within Congress. At first, they had come up with two plans. The
Virginia Plan and The New Jersey Plan . The Virginia Plan , was the decision of numbers of
representatives a state can have in Congress. The decision was that the number of representatives

The Great Compromise is, to make it simple, both plans put together. This, alone, makes it seem

representatives. This is the plan of having an equal amount of representatives from each state. The
House of Representatives, also known as The House , will have the number of representatives

Analysis Of Stephen Stills For What It s Worth
Event of the 60 s inspired Stephen Stills to write For What It s worth, the song then was released
months later by the group Buffalo Springfield according to the article Closing of club ignited the
Sunset strip club (Cecilia Rasmussen). The riot is also known as hippie riot. The reason it is
considered the hippie is that the protesters were young rock and roll fans, some were student and
some of them wore long hair. The reason behind the protestwas that residents and business owners
had encouraged the passage of a 10 pm curfew. This is to reduce loitering and the traffic in that
area. In 1966 there were a bunch of peaceful youthful protests going on in the Sunset Strip because
of a club getting shut down, and the police started beating them during one of the protests. This is
usually connected to the VietnamWar because it was made around the same era, and this song is
very much about peace and rebellion, which was the vibe during the Vietnam era. According to
Rasmussen fliers contained information about the protest were distributed earlier that day. And the
protest began with the protester blocking the traffic peacefully until a group of off duty marines
showed up.
Even thou the song was inspired by the event previously mentioned. The song became one of the
protest song in the 60 s, the reason is that the lyrics of the song pretty much described the events
that took place in the 60 s and early 70 s. Due to the Vietnam War protest happened all over the
country. Many

Cyberbullying And Tinker V. Des Moines Independent...
Cyberbullying and Tinker Cyberbullying is prevalent in today s society due to the abundance of
teenage students having access to the internet either on campus or off of campus. Bullying over the
internet is thought of being done by students against students. Although this is true, there are many
instances where students use the internet to voice their opinions about teachers and administrators
in which the language is vulgar, lewd, and demeaning. As of 2015, all states in the United States,
except for Montana, have enacted policies that deal with bullying by using an electronic device.
However, in many of the previous court cases, the rulings have been linked to a Case Law that was
made in 1969. Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District is frequently
recognized as being the first case to protect students First Amendment rights at school. By ruling
that it was within Iowa high school students First Amendment rights to protest Vietnam by wearing
armbands at school, the Court established that students do not shed their Constitutional rights at the
school gate, with the exception of behavior that could cause substantial disturbance to the school
environment (Eaton, 2014). The Supreme Court has not yet made a ruling on a case dealing with
cyberbullying and the internet; therefore, it must rely on Case Law from before the internet era to
make decisions involving students freedom of speech. This is where cyberbullying and

Abstract I will discuss the basis of an organizational theory as it applies to the criminal justice
system. I am discussing and giving a clear understanding of the criminal justice system as an
organization of a bureaucratic management system with hierarchies and processes of inputs,
processes, and outputs within one aspect of the criminal justice system i.e. police, within one city. I
will also discuss how New Orleans Police Department was created throughout history and what
organizational theory has been implemented. This is a brief history of the New Orleans Police
Department and why a bureaucratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being admitted into the Union, New Orleans created a police force organization that
resembled a small army. The main reason for this type of policing was to control the slave
populations that outnumbered the white population.
Throughout the years the police force evolved and the New Orleans Police Department was
created in 1852. This allowed for a consolidation of independent police jurisdiction and was apart
of a reform of all city government levels. To create an atmosphere of internal honesty a hierarchy
was put in place to hold employees accountable and to crack down on local offenders of the law.
This organizational structure added to the control of employees and held the hierarchy accountable.
With the control, clear policy and procedures and consistency in organizing rules it helped the
police department to fashion a bureaucracy in action.
Conclusion
The Organizational theory of Bureaucracy management as explained by Webber, creates controls of
internal accountability that has levels of supervisory control. This is one aspect that to aid in the
processes of inputs and outputs that streamline the process from one criminal justice sector to
another. The New Orleans Police Department is an example of bureaucracy as an organizational
theory. As the

Miranda v. Arizona 384 United States Supreme Court 436 (1966)
ABSTRACT
The Miranda warning is a landmark case, the Supreme Court decided five to four majority in the
case Miranda v. Arizona in 1966, stating that the Constitution s Fifth Amendment prohibition
against self implication connected to a person in the custody of a police officer or denied of his
opportunity of activity in any substantial way. However, with the specific objective to protect this
benefit, the Court ruled, person must, before any questioning, be warned that he has a right to
remain silent, that any statement he does make may be used as evidence against him, and that he
has right to presence of an attorney, retained or appointed (Miranda v. Arizona 384 U.S. 436
(1966). Which allow the right individuals to have an attorney present prior to be questioning.
Miranda warning is used and enforced by all law enforcement in the United States. It was
established because of the incident of March 13, 1963, with Ernesto Miranda. The Phoenix Police

Western Influences on Folk-Custom in Shanghai
Western Influences on Folk custom in Shanghai
The change of Folk custom is an important part of the change of society. As a metropolis in China,
Shanghai combines her own features with many other country s history and culture. As a result, the
Folk customs in Shanghai have changed a lot due to the impact of western culture.
The influences on proprieties
As a traditional city in China, Shanghai paid much attention to the etiquette and custom when
people met together in the old days. At that time, people must make a bow with hands folded in
front, worship on bended knees or pay respects to the others according to their social status.
Worship on bended knees is a posture to show compliment to others, in order to symbolize the

Gown was the typical old Chinese clothing, while the women wore cheongsams. The abuse of such
clothing was not corresponds to the requirement of equality and did not match the increasing
cadence of life.
So, people in Shanghai began to accept the western clothing. Chemise, overcoat, trousers, shoe
leather, socks were gradually popularized in Shanghais. The western elements in clothing are
increasing day by day.
The influences on diet
There is an ancient Chinese remark still going around like this. Food is the paramount necessity of
people. China is a country with a splendid catering culture. For a very long time, the habit of diet in
Shanghai didn t changed a lot. But as the infiltration of the western culture, the western diet is
introduced to Shanghai, and some western food is becoming more and more popular in Shanghai.
Champagne, tea with milk, carbonated drink, ice cream, bread and cake are widely accepted by
people of Shanghai. This shows that western diet culture has brought about great changes in diet
structure in Shanghai.
All the aspects of folk customs as mentioned upwards can reflect the great impact which is given to
Shanghai by the western culture. The communication between Chinese culture and western culture
has been enhanced and the two kinds of cultures have reached to an amalgamation. Shanghai has
absorbed the elite of western culture, and the society of Shanghai

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Chronic Pain
SPONDYLOSIS CHRONIC PAIN SYNDROME
Introduction and Definition of Chronic Pain
About 100 million Americans suffer from Chronic Pain, defined as pain that lasts longer than six
months. Chronic pain can be mild or excruciating, episodic or continuous, merely inconvenient or
totally incapacitating. With chronic pain, signals of pain remain active in the nervous system for
months or even years. This can take both a physical and emotional toll on a person.
Causes and Etiology of Chronic Pain
Chronic pain can be caused by many different factors. Often conditions that accompany normal
aging may affect bones and joints in ways that cause chronic pain. Other common causes are nerve
damage and injuries that fail to heal properly. The most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the body s most basic defenses may be compromised: There is considerable evidence that
unrelenting pain can suppress the immune system. Because of the mind body links associated with
chronic pain, effective treatment requires addressing psychological as well as physical aspects of
the condition.
Some kinds of chronic pain have numerous causes. Back pain, for example, may be caused by a
single factor, or any combination of these factors:
Years of poor posture
Improper lifting and carrying of heavy objects
being overweight, which puts excess strain on the back and knees
A congenital condition such as curvature of the spine
Traumatic injury
Wearing high heels
Sleeping on a poor mattress
No obvious physical cause
Ordinary aging of the spine (degenerative changes)
Disease can also be the underlying cause of chronic pain. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and
Fibromyalgia are well known culprits, but persistent pain may also be due to such ailments as
Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Stomach Ulcers, AIDS, and gallbladder disease.
In many cases, however, the source of chronic pain can be a very complex and even mysterious
issue to untangle. Although it may begin with an injury or illness, ongoing pain can develop a
psychological dimension after the physical problem has healed. This fact alone makes

The Play Of The Diary Of Anne Frank Analysis
Hiding in the holocaust was a horrible thing. If you had too, do you think you would survive?
Although it was horrific, one Jewish girl, Anne Frank said, In spite of everything, I still believe
people are really good at heart. Anne never lost hope. She never just looked at the negative in all
things. She thought that if someone was bad they could always change, and she was right. After
reading The Play of the Diary of Anne FrankI have come to the conclusion that I agree with Anne s
quote. The biggest reason I agree with Anne s quote is what Peter did. Even though I think this,
there are some people who do not agree with this quote. I think some people would disagree
because of what selfish thing Mr. Van Daan did with his wife s coat for himself.
There were a lot of other things in The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank, but there was one that
got me convended right when I saw. It was a big act of kindness coming from Peter. On page 114
115 this dialogue happened:
Anne: This isn t true. You re much better than I am in dozens of things arithmetic and algebra and
... Well, you re a million time better than I am in algebra. (With sudden directness.) You like
Margot, don t you? Right from the start you likes her, liked her much better than me.
Peter: (uncomfortably) Oh, I don t know.
Anne: It s all right. Everyone feels that way. Margot s so good. She s sweet and bright and
beautiful, and I m not.
Peter: I wouldn t say that.
Anne: Oh, no, I m not. I know that. I know quite well

HIST*1221*100
2017Dec2 Throughout the history of The United States of America, many presidents have come
and gone, some with many successes and some not so much, but no president was as quirky and
hot headed as the former President Richard Nixon. One Man Against the World: The Tragedy of
Richard Nixon tells the story of a very provoked man, considered by many across the world to be a
brilliant politician, in the process of destroying himself. In this novel, Americans can better
understand Nixon as the man that he was, as well as his policy in Vietnam, the beginnings of the
Watergate scandal, and the effects that his decisions have had on America until this day. All the lies
and secrets kept by President Nixon will forever reign on the inevitable influence that it has had on
politicians to come. Many people ask a simple question when it comes to Richard Nixon, Was he an
honorable and ethical man during his time in the White House? To get the answer to that question,
you would have to consider Nixon s actions and temperament. While he had many scandals, he had
a few accomplishments without having to skew anyone or anything around him to achieve. His
most famous involvements were in the Watergate and Vietnam. President Richard Nixon, along
with his National Security Advisor,

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Animals On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats. Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for their brown reddish coat with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them to camouflage, bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When approaching its prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using its sharp teeth, claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet consists of mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chief Economic Traits of the Beer Industry Industry Competitive Analysis CHIEF ECONOMIC TRAITS OF THE BEER INDUSTRY The market size of the beer industry is incredible. The wholesale volume in the beer industry is approxiametly $13.7 billion. The industry employes almost 40,000 people. The average worker is paid about $18.27 an hour. As you can see, this is a very large industry which provides many jobs to the american workforce. The market consists of many competitors, some being very large and some operating on a very small scale. The competitive rivalry is broken up into three segments, Natiional, Regional , and Microbrewers. National competitors have a wide market coverage and generally a large company. Regional competitors are smaller than National in the fact that they only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ex. Light beer, Amber beer, Low Alcohol, And Malt Liquor. Imports are perceived to be better quality: when in fact, they are really not. Because of this perception, Import beer costs more than domestic beer does. Imports are differentiated by taste and packaging. Small brewers offer a superpremium product that is not very differentiated. The main differences can be attributed to the brewing process, price, and packaging. Scale economies is high among national companies due to their large size. Their ability to distribute fixed costs is easily done because of the large volume that is produced. Their is also economies of scale in product extension and brand proliferation. Regional companies have moderate economies of scale. Regionals do not produce as much as larger natioanal companies but, they can still spread some of there costs over their moderate volumes. Local brewers have low economies of scale. Production is so small that it is very difficult to distribute costs. A local brewer cannot spread the cost of advertising over their product without having to raise the price of their product considerably. Capacity utilization in the U.S. Beer industry is between 75% and 85%. The beer industry is suffering from overcapacity. Despite this, a few companies are still expanding while others are closing down some operations. Because of flat sales, their is no need to overproduce. Industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Tatar Argument Against Russia s Annexation Of Crimea Hundreds of Crimean Tatars launched a blockade of roads from Ukraine to the Crimean peninsula to protest Russia s annexation of the Crimean peninsula. With help of the members of the Ukrainian ultra nationalist Pravy Sektor group, the protesters used concrete blocks to partially seal off the three roads linking mainland Ukraine to Crimea in order to halt the delivery of goods. Tatar leaders said they were aiming to block supplies to protest the numerous violations of their rights by Russian authorities . Our goal is to end the occupation of Crimea and to restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine, Refat Chubarov, one of the expelled leaders of the Crimean Tatar community, told journalists. The Tatar community of Crimea were exiled under orders of Stalin to Central Asia during World War II, with almost half perishing in harsh conditions. Between 10,000 and 15,000 members of the Tatar community (which has its own distinct language and culture) are thought to have fled Crimea ever since the Russian flag was raised on the peninsula. Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, later said on national television that he would raise the issue of the rights of the Tatars of Crimea at the General Assembly of the United Nations later this month. • 6. Are Diesels Better Than Gasoline Engines Are diesels better than gasoline engines? A significant segment of the consumer market thinks so, especially in Europe where such engines compose nearly half the vehicles purchased. In the US, diesels have had difficulty gaining acceptance, with heavy duty pickup trucks and German luxury cars offering them. But with Audi currently snagged in the Volkswagen diesel scandal mess, a negative light has been cast on these engines, with some insisting that they re far dirtier than what manufacturers say they are. Fortunately, not all manufacturers are being dissuaded by such negativity. • 7. Deanna Kuhn Theory Of Cognitive Development A present time, there are many developmental theories, which cover cognitive, socio emotional, and physical. Among those theorists, for the purpose of this post, I will be considering two of them. First, I will be reviewing the Russian psychologist Lev Vygostsky and his sociocultural theory. Next, I will be looking at Deanna Kuhn and the Metacognitive development theory. One of the psychologists who made a significant contribution and stimulated a lot of studies in addressing the cultural impact in human development was Vygostsky. He introduced the sociocultural theory, which focused on culture transmission from one generation to another. He also theorized with social interaction, children to acquire the way of thinking and behaving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of metacognition has been broadened to thoughts about thoughts and affective states, motives, intentions and the ability to consciously and deliberately monitor and regulate one s knowledge, processes, cognitive and affective states, motives and intentions (Papaleontiou Louca, 2008). Kuhn believes that metacognition is a high level construct, which can be conceptualized in a developmental framework. Additionally during development young children, they develop capabilities of metaknowing that many adult do not master. Therefore in early age metacognitive achievements serve as foundations of higher order thinking in adulthood, which include scientific thinking (Kuhn, 2000). She believes that knowing have to have a purpose or a goal because the simple fact of knowing what you know does not have much impact on your knowledge unless that knowledge serves a purpose. So in this developmental framework, she suggested that there are two terms: metastrategic knowing which refers to metaknowing about procedural knowing. Metastrategic knowing can be then divided into metatask knowledge about task goals and metastrategic knowledge referring to strategies a person has available to meets the goals (Kuhn, 2000). Metastrategic and metacognitive are important because they provide an explanation to as to why cognitive development occurs or fails to occur. Additionally the metacognition development has laid foundations for contemporary theories of learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Stereotypes In Disney s Film Brave Disney s famous feminist film, Brave, takes place in the Highlands of Scotland in the tenth century. Long before authors such as Alexander MacDonald and Mary Macpherson could write their famous poems, long before the Highland diaspora. Oftentimes, marginalized groups are pinned against one another by the group(s) in control. Scottish tourism agencies, Visit Scotlandspecifically, were excited for the release of Brave and created a Discover Scotland campaign that was inspired by the film to draw tourists (Carrell). Brave seems to play into the stereotypes about Scottish people, from the red hair, to the huge manly man, even the bears that are key to the film, have a rooted history in Scottish folklore. The allowance for stereotypes to be so common in Brave plays into the continued racist narrative that affects Scottish people to this day. A viewer should be critical of the film even if it breaks away from the patriarchal hold that has controlled Disney films for nearly a century. To illustrate that Merida is different from any princess, the film opens with her shooting arrows and riding a horse the way a man of the time might. Disney and Pixar did work together on this film that at first held quite the unique premise, Merida, instead of allowing suitors to compete for her hand in marriage, would fight for her own hand in marriage. A story that would be historically inaccurate, but be unique and create a strong image for not only Scottish women, but women as a whole. Rather, Disney dropped this plot line in the duration of the film to incorporate the folk story of the Bear and the Arrow, into a mother/daughter plotline. I prepared for it the same as I had every match for the past 10 years. I went onto the mat and went to business right away taking a commanding 8 0 lead going into the 3rd period. With nearly 30 seconds left, the match took an unexpected turn. • 12. The Between Creationism And Creationism The first words in the Bible are, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1, English Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationismhave been battling over this issue for many years. What must be realized before examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means neither can be proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of Genesis 1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture can be seen in two points of view: Old Earth Creationism and Theistic Evolution. Old Earth Creationism believes God created everything out of nothing, the same as Young Earth Creationism, but does not think it was done over a literal six days, so it can be considered as semi literal (Fowler, 2010). They believe each day meant a period time; and thus think the earth is over four billion years old. This view point combines evolutionary theory with a semi literal translation with the text in Genesis 1 and 2. This leads to a very long process of thinking and an even harder process to explain. Theistic Evolution differs and takes the approach that God caused the Big Bang and used evolution to create the universe and thus takes a non literal approach (Marinov, 2014). This means that they believe everything was created through evolution, but with God s hand guiding it. This theory coincides with modern scientific thought. The authority of scripture plays a role in the non literal and semi literal interpretations of scriptures. In order to have a non literal, or semi literal viewpoint on interpretation, one has to understand that that it means they cannot think the Bible is completely accurate with every aspect and thus cannot be taken literally. This means that the text is meant to taken literarily and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The American Girls Softball League In the year 1943, Philip K. Wrigley founded the All American Girls Softball League. He formed the league to entertain baseball fans while many of the men were away fighting WWII. What began as a softball league transformed to baseball league that eventually became known as the All American Girls Professional BaseballLeague (AAGPBL). The league was designed with fifteen teams made up of twenty to twenty five women spread out across America. The league existed for twelve years, from 1943 to 1954. This was a period of time when women were not supposed to have professional careers outside of the home, much less careers that involved professional athletics. Girls were expected to grow up to be wives and mothers, not baseball players. The women of the AAGPBL were athletic pioneers who pursued and captured their dreams of playing professional baseball in much the same way as men had for decades. World War Two opened the door for the women of the AAGPBL to take a huge role in the American public. On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, becoming the largest attack on American soil until the events of 9/11. The United States went to war almost immediately, sending out military grade men between the ages of 18 and 39 to fight in the war between the German and Japanese forces. With the war requiring so many men who would usually be populating the workforce, a sudden unexpected labor shortage emerged. This was only amplified when the need for machines of ... There are so many different ways to live life. The American way, of course, is the easy way. At least, that is the common perception of the American way. The whole world sees America as a lazy country that does not even want to keep its own companies in it. America outsources, takes what other countries have discovered, and incorporates other countries ideals in the creation of everyday products. On the inside, down deep, America is beautiful. Understandably, no one wants to do time in prison, especially when they are innocent. America, in comparison to Rick Tyler, could be looked at like a figurative fugitive. The country has been under constant ridicule from other countries, claiming that America has been nothing but a bully. America has been the fugitive on the run for years, with many countries claiming America has many bad things to answer for. America, to them, has been dodging the questions, and many countries believe that America deserves all of the bad things it gets. Rick Tyler ran, and people seemed to have mixed emotions about the situation. There were people who were happy to see Rick Tyler running and still free. Then, on the other hand, there were people who did not care about the situation either way. The people who did not seem to care about Rick Tyler just wanted to collect the bounty on him. Having explored the three methods of setting ground rules during session 2 of PTTLS course, it is evident that for the ground rules to be effective, determining the appropriate method of ground rules setting is crucial to informing how the learners will be likely to respond to the ground rules and how this will later affect the session or sessions to be delivered. The three methods of setting ground rules offer advantages and disadvantages depending on the context of the lesson and the dynamics of the group. In establishing an effective set of ground rules for my learners, I would consider a method that offers the teacher the opportunity to create a learning environment that is safe, efficient and stimulating for the learner (Armitage, A, et al, Teaching Training in Post Compulsory Education , OU, 2007). On 29 October 1982, in the Northern Territory Supreme Court, Lindy Chamberlain was convicted of murdering her nine week old daughter, Azaria, by cutting her throat in the front seat of the family car at a camping area beside Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia. Her husband, Michael, was convicted as an accessory. Appeals to the Federal Court and the High Court were unsuccessful. The convictions were quashed in 1988 after a judicial inquiry. With no body, no evidence of motive and no eyewitness evidence that even vaguely incriminated the Chamberlains, the Crown case was wholly circumstantial, and supported in the main by the claims of expert witnesses to the effect that the state of Azaria s clothing was inconsistent with a dingo attack, that there was a bloody handprint on the jumpsuit; and that substantial quantities of blood, including the blood of an infant, had been found throughout the Chamberlain car. There were many problems with the methods and findings of these witnesses, only some of which, however, could be effectively communicated to a jury in a criminal trial. The Crown invited the jury to infer that in a space of five to ten minutes, during which Lindy returned to the tent with the baby and six year old Aidan, she had cut Azaria s throat and stuffed the body into Michael s camera case while her son apparently stood by. She had then raced Aidan back to the barbecue area, where normal life was resumed, and displayed no signs of unease or distress until the opportunity presented itself of blaming a dingo for the baby s disappearance. The Chamberlains were said to have later buried the body, then exhumed it so that the clothing could be placed in a strategic location to lend further credibility to the dingo tale. (16) An incentive is simply a means of urging people to do more of a good thing and less of a bad (17). An interesting concept the author points out is Morality, represents the way that people would like the world to work whereas economics represents how it actually does work (11). The authors several times oddly bring up that there is no unifying theme to the book, giving the impression the book is not well thought out. Regardless, there are some things that tie the unusual examples together, one being the theory of incentives as being the motivator. The other unifying thread is that conventional wisdom is often wrong, that when looking at situations, layers need to be peeled off and knowing what to measure and how to measure it allows for better understanding (12 13). The introduction is the last section of the book that doesn t leave the reader somewhat confused regarding what they are reading, and if it really does relate to economics or is just quirky stories. It is interesting to see the development of their theory about incentives, as they investigate what makes something so attractive that sometimes people are willing to cheat and behave unethically to attain the incentive. The Instruction Of Spoken Language The instruction of spoken language is one of the most important for language classrooms since communication has been the main priority for language teachers. The use of discourse analysis (DA) for language teaching (LT) has been indispensable; due to the immense number of elements that contribute significantly to this field. In addition, Schiffrin et al. (2001:707) cited Olshtain and Celce Murcia who claim that pragmatics and DA are related to languageteaching. For this reason, spoken production can be improved if these elements are taught adequately. Nevertheless, a question may be aroused after this, what amount of vocabulary, grammar and phonology do instructors need to teach? Teaching speaking effectively goes in hand with DA and several language applications which focus on how oral speech needs to be delivered. Hence, vocabulary one of the three main elements is the one that deals with the lexicon of the language. Instructors need to teach words in context; as a consequence, the new lexis will be storage faster and it will be ready to be used either in spoken or written language (Scrivener 2011:200). Therefore, vocabulary plays an important role in the instruction of spoken language. Nonetheless, words can express more than one meaning and this can cause a couple of difficulties to students while they are learning such language. As part of this, if DA takes place in the classroom, it can be found easily that words may vary from meaning to meaning. In addition, DA and semantics also alter the way that speakers select words to be used. Finch (2003) defines semantics as the study of the meaning; thus, what words or utterances can be meant at the moment of using them. Something there is that doesn t love a wall, that sends the frozen ground swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two can pass abreast (1). This network helped BP and its suppliers and contractors to radically cut costs and time of the project. BP in Alaska and Colombia also used similar techniques. The benefits to their eBusiness operation from the use of VPN are easy to measure: 1.A huge reduction in time consumption to solve problems as a result of interaction between land based drilling engineers and offshore rig crews. 2.A decrease in the number of helicopter trips to offshore oil platforms. 3.A reduction in rework due to better collaboration. 4.The avoidance of a refinery shutdown because experts working elsewhere could assist in eradicating the problem. • 42. The War Of New Orleans The War of 1812 is probably our most obscure conflict. Although a great deal has been written about the war, the average American is only vaguely aware of why we fought or who the enemy was. Even those who know something about the contest are likely to remember only a few dramatic moments, such as the writing of The Star Spangled Banner, the burning of the nation s capital, or the Battle of New Orleans. Why is this war so obscure? One reason is that no great president is associated with the conflict. Although his enemies called it Mr. Madison s War, James Madison was shy and deferential, hardly measuring up to such war leaders as Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, or Franklin Roosevelt. Moreover, the best American generals in this war Andrew Jackson, Jacob Brown, and Winfield Scott were unable to turn the tide because each was confined to a one or two theaters in a war that had seven or eight theaters. No one like George Washington, Ulysses Grant, or Dwight Eisenhower emerged to put his stamp on the war and to carry the nation to victory. Another reason for the obscurity of this war is that its causes are complex and little understood today. Most scholars agree that the war was fought over maritime issues, particularly the Orders in Council, which restricted American trade with the European Continent, and impressment, which was the Royal Navy s practice of removing seamen from American merchant vessels. In contemporary parlance, the war was fought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Director Battisti stated, average global temperatures for the past million years have never been more than 2 4 degrees higher than now. If greenhouse emissions continue unchecked, temperatures would likely be higher by the end of this century than any time since the human species evolved. (Doughton). In a nutshell, David is saying that there is no way to predict the height climate changecan grow to if left unchecked. Since temperatures have never reached past a few degrees, how can predictions be made to see what catastrophes may befall us in the event of temperatures reaching higher than they have ever been? Today information will be presented to show what happening to our planet, then more information will be given concerning statistics to show how living a green lifestyle can benefit our environment. Earth is getting hotter. Almost every scientist agrees with this consensus. In fact with the dozen climate models in use today, almost all predict average temperature increases of about 3 11 degrees by the end of the century. This doesn t seem too bad though, but keep in mind that it only took a drop of 10 degrees to encase much of North America in mile deep glaciers during the ice age(Doughton). Although this is true, there are many instances where students use the internet to voice their opinions about teachers and administrators in which the language is vulgar, lewd, and demeaning. As of 2015, all states in the United States, except for Montana, have enacted policies that deal with bullying by using an electronic device. However, in many of the previous court cases, the rulings have been linked to a Case Law that was made in 1969. Tinker v. After being admitted into the Union, New Orleans created a police force organization that resembled a small army. The main reason for this type of policing was to control the slave populations that outnumbered the white population. Throughout the years the police force evolved and the New Orleans Police Department was created in 1852. This allowed for a consolidation of independent police jurisdiction and was apart of a reform of all city government levels. To create an atmosphere of internal honesty a hierarchy was put in place to hold employees accountable and to crack down on local offenders of the law. This organizational structure added to the control of employees and held the hierarchy accountable. With the control, clear policy and procedures and consistency in organizing rules it helped the police department to fashion a bureaucracy in action. Conclusion The Organizational theory of Bureaucracy management as explained by Webber, creates controls of internal accountability that has levels of supervisory control.
