The european programe Weastflows
AURH is involved in Weastflows, a European project led in the frame of the program INTERREG IVB for North-West Europe area, with 21 other partners.
The aim of this project is both :
- improve logistic operations and freight transport in North-West Europe
- decongest the traditional North-South axis.
These objectives could be reached by :
- encouraging the shift from road to more sustainable modes (railway and inland waterway transport, short sea shipping)
- promoting the development of freight flows on a new west-east axis.
Thanks to Weastflows, AURH saw the opportunity to include in a new dynamic the Seine estuary area and the Seine Valley at the heart of the European freight transport system.
The project recognized as "strategic initiative" by the European Commission, is divided into 12 actions. AURH is in charged of the first one, entitled "Assessment of capacity for sustainable transport". This action mainly mobilizes the geographical and geomatic expertise of the AURH.
The Atlas of major North-West European freight infrastructures achieved by AURH is the first deliverable of the project
The Atlas is based on the implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) built by the AURH team and covering the seven countries of North West Europe involved in Weastflows. Composed of 47 maps, the Atlas presents the organization of freight infrastructure in North-West Europe, all types of infrastructures and all modes included (road, rail, inland waterways, sea and air). Never before such work had been done on this scale.

BDE-SC6 Hangout - “Insight into Virtual Currency Ecosystems”BigData_Europe
Third SC6 webinar was held on 16 February 2017. It was organised by the Consortium of Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) from Norway and the Semantic Web Company (SWC) from Austria. Theme of the webinar was “Insight into Virtual Currency Ecosystems” presented by Dr. Bernhard Haslhofer, Data Scientist at the Austrian Institute of Technology.
In Finpro's seminar on May 4, Josef Czako spoke about ITS and MaaS opportunities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He also gave understanding on what kind of players there are in the field of ITS in respective countries, and what steps one should follow when entering the market.
Big data: uncovering new mobility patterns and redefining planning practicesMickael Pero
Using representations and data that are digital, we can create images about what happens where and when in cities, including mobility patterns that remained unaccounted until now. If properly analysed, big data for mobility can radically improve the socioeconomic and environmental analysis of public and sustainable transport. This session will discuss how big data is affecting mobility in terms of new travel behaviour and transport planning. At the user level, the relations between social networks, social media usage and travel behaviour in EU countries will be discussed. Scientific insight on the social media usage of millennial students in EU countries to understand their impact on social activities and mobility in urban areas will be presented. At the planer level, responses to changes in mobility patterns or unaccounted needs given by the analysis of public transport smart data will be presented. Advances on an integrated accessibility index will be discussed as a way for policy makers to improve current transport planning practices. Yet, big data in transport is not immune from some problems, especially those relating to statistical validity, bias and incorrectly imputed causality. This point will be discussed alongside liability, since Big data is gathered and manipulated by many different stakeholders. The proposed panel discussion therefore aims to provide to the audience a clear understanding on ways in which big data affects travel behaviour and transport planning, while accounting for data quality and pan European standardisation aspects.
Inter-modal Transport Data Sharing in Hong Kong: Use Case Development WorkshopTRPC Pte Ltd
The third phase of research for the Inter-Modal Transport Data-Sharing project was a workshop sponsored by Daimler Mobility, Via Transportation, Thales Transport & Security on use cases, policies and regulations, attended by 70 participants from 34 organisations around five tables followed by a plenary and hosted by HKU SPACE. Attendance was 100% and registrations had to close, a sure proof-of-concept for the relevance of data-sharing for the future development of sustainable mobility in Hong Kong. The focus on use cases came out of the fora held in May and June and demonstrates the progress being made as more stakeholders become involved.
Bambucluster's point of view on how IoT can be a key enabler of Smart Mobility/ transportation solutions. Presented on June 14th, 2017 at the the BrightTALK Internet of Everything summit:
https://summits.brighttalk.com/webinar/iot-enabled-smart-mobility-hype-or-reality/
Urban mobility has always been about moving people from location to location through motorized personal or public transport. However, the proliferation of sensors, smartphones and intelligent high bandwidth networks are compelling towns & cities around the world to re-think urban mobility and consider technology enablers to drive towards a vision of “smart” mobility. Furthermore, the fundamental assumptions underpinning mobility are being challenged.
The Internet Of Things (IotT) has been touted as a promising technology enabler to deliver on a vision of smart mobility. We will examine the current state of IoT ecosystems, IoT enabled smart mobility efforts across the globe and help delineate the architectural considerations and cross-industry industry collaboration that would be essential to successfully deliver on smart mobility initiatives. A simple use case around a town/city smart mobility service will be used to illustrate our approach.

As Europe's leading economic powerhouse and the fourth-largest hashtag#economy globally, Germany stands at the forefront of innovation and industrial might. Renowned for its precision engineering and high-tech sectors, Germany's economic structure is heavily supported by a robust service industry, accounting for approximately 68% of its GDP. This economic clout and strategic geopolitical stance position Germany as a focal point in the global cyber threat landscape.
In the face of escalating global tensions, particularly those emanating from geopolitical disputes with nations like hashtag#Russia and hashtag#China, hashtag#Germany has witnessed a significant uptick in targeted cyber operations. Our analysis indicates a marked increase in hashtag#cyberattack sophistication aimed at critical infrastructure and key industrial sectors. These attacks range from ransomware campaigns to hashtag#AdvancedPersistentThreats (hashtag#APTs), threatening national security and business integrity.
🔑 Key findings include:
🔍 Increased frequency and complexity of cyber threats.
🔍 Escalation of state-sponsored and criminally motivated cyber operations.
🔍 Active dark web exchanges of malicious tools and tactics.
Our comprehensive report delves into these challenges, using a blend of open-source and proprietary data collection techniques. By monitoring activity on critical networks and analyzing attack patterns, our team provides a detailed overview of the threats facing German entities.
This report aims to equip stakeholders across public and private sectors with the knowledge to enhance their defensive strategies, reduce exposure to cyber risks, and reinforce Germany's resilience against cyber threats.
