4. WHY WE ARE USING
BIBLIONASIUM?
BiblioNasium is an opportunity to introduce students to a social network in a
safe environment.
In the Lower School, BiblioNasium will serve several purposes:
1) BiblioNasium will be a way to keep a summer reading record. This will be
important as the construction will lead to a long summer. By monitoring and
offering feedback to students during the summer, teachers can encourage
students to continue progress in reading.
2) During the school year, we will be using BiblioNasium as a way to
collectively meet the needs of our advanced students. Teachers will create
targeted Reading Challenges and activities.
3) All students will be using BiblioNasium to create and share book
recommendations for the Lower School Library.
5. EXPLORE THE SITE AS A
STUDENT
When you set up a group, be sure to create a student group so you can
explore what the site is like for them.
6. COMPLETE THE
INSTRUCTIONAL TASK
1) Now that you have reviewed the PowerPoint, watched the videos and explored the site, it's time
to set up your own BiblioNasium site for your students this summer. Register and set up your class
group. Please add me to your educator list under My Group so that I can add suggestions and the
Library Summer Challenge.
2) Create your own recommendation board in “My Books.”
Include the following items:
a) 3 Favorite books – These should be your own personal favorites that are appropriate for your
students. Include a book review for one of them.
b) 3 Recommended books – What are books that you think your students should try this summer?
Focus on an author or series. Include a book review for one of the books that explains why you
recommend the particular author/ series.
c) 1 Required book – This book should be one that you want all students to read this summer. In
the review, include a simple task that students can turn in with their summer homework.
3) Design 2 reading challenges.
a) Challenge 1 – make this a category or genre challenge
b) Challenge 2 – make this a challenge of your choice or one based on minutes
c) Include a book review requirement with at least one of the challenges.
