Compare And Contrast The Gospel Of Matthew And Mark
There are many different gospels that tell a similar story. Matthew and Mark are two Gospels
written in a similar way but have different audiences. The story is the Last Supper and is about the
last meal that Jesus experienced with his Apostles before his Sacrifice. There are many similarities,
but not very many differences. Overall, the same story is told, but from two different perspectives.
The Gospelaccording to Matthew is the first book of the New Testament. The story explains how
the Messiah, Jesus, was refused by Israel and finally sent the disciples to preach the gospel around
the whole world. As Matthew wrote for his fellow Jews, he wrote his Gospel in the language
Jesus spoke, Aramaic, which led early Church Fathers to believe Matthew s was the first Gospel.
On the other hand, the Gospel of Markteaches that Jesus is the Son of God who assumed human
nature. Mark wrote the gospel in Greek for a Gentile Christian audience, which was undergoing
persecution, perhaps in Rome. A central theme is that following Jesus often means that a
Christian must suffer like Jesus did. Mark s Gospel points out that Jesus accepted this important
title, but that he was reluctant to let people know his identity. (Matthew 26:26 30 and Mark
14:22 26 ) The story about the Last Supper according to Matthew s Gospel and Mark s Gospel is
about when Jesus and his disciples were eating and Jesus took bread, said a blessing, broke it,
gave it to them and said, Take and eat; this is my body. Along with the bread, he then took a cup,
gave thanks, and gave it to his disciples telling them all to drink it, because it is his blood of the
covenant which will be given up for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus said that from now he wouldn
t drink the fruit of the vine until he drank it with his disciples with the new in the kingdom of his
Father. Afterwards, they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives. Both stories are the
same except some of the wording is slightly different. The only differences within the stories are
some words within some sentences. For example, in the first sentence in Matthew s version of the
Last Supper it says, While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and
giving it to his

How I Got Through
Bye, my Tiny! Don t worry about your father, just keep going! she talked through the phone.
Bye, Mom. And don t skip any meal. You know your stomach very well.
And you take care, sweetie! her voice was shaking.
You, too. Bye, Mom! Goodnight! I tried not to sound emotionally.
Have fun in school.
You know I will.
My Mom hung up the phone before she could start crying and I took off my headphone, stared at
my laptop screen, thought about how much she missed me and had no idea what to do or what
I should do next. That had been the way we finished every phone call for the last three weeks the
three weeks I d been away from home. Of course I knew that I would go to a class, but what should
I do for today, for tomorrow, and for my future? It was somehow so hard to see things clear. Every
time we talked, I saw her in my mind with long curvy hair, deep hazelnut brown eyes and thin lips,
and promised myself I would be the big girl she could be proud of. She was a mother who did
everything for her children, and she did all her best to give me the best education and a chance to
follow my dream, so there was no way I d let her down (and also let me down). I always considered
myself as a lucky one, because since I was a very young kid, I had already known who I desired to
be, what I could do, what I was supposed to do to achieve my goals. And my Mom was the reason
that made me even so

15 Cases That Changed America
In the history of the United States there has been several cases that has changed America.
According to CNN, there has been 15 cases that impacted American in a crucial way. From the
classic Roe vs Wade to the infamous Brown vs Board Education, these have all left an impact on
society and the order of America. One case that is mentioned is Miranda vs Arizona; this case is
so important due to the fact that it granted us our Miranda Rights In 1963 a resident of Arizona

Examples Of Helplessness In A Prayer For Owen Meany
The idea of helplessness is a behavior where one is forced to endure adversity without consent or
ability to control the events that are occurring. John Irving, an American novelist, demonstrates the
idea of helplessness in his novel A Prayer for Owen Meany. In this novel Irving uses symbols to
enforce the idea of being helpless. Some symbols that he uses throughout the novel include the
statue of Watahontowet, the stuffed armadillo, the dressmaker s dummy, and Owen Meany s body
at the end of the novel. The statue of Watahantowet appears in the beginning of the novel when it is
found out that the original John Wheelwright acquired his land from a local Native American chief
named Watahontowet. When Watahontowet signs the deeds to hand the

Dick is labeled as a crazy kid and everyone tends to stay away from him. When Owen is killed his
arms are blown off of his body and he appears the same as the other symbols throughout the
novel. Without his arms, Owen is finally viewed as completely helpless because not only does
he not have any arms but he is now dead. This event is the novel is Irving s final enforcement of
the idea of helplessness because it shows how Owen knew how he was going to die the whole
time and as he lived his life he was preparing for his death. This was done when he would always
make John practice The Shot and he said that it had to be done in less than three seconds. This
was the amount of time that they had to get the grenade that Dick threw and get it out the window.
Also while the death scene is approaching both John and Owen are realizing all of the signs from
the dream that Owen had about his death; the palm trees and all of the children. Both of them
knew what was about to happen but only Owen knew that The Shot was a part of it. This event is
the novel finalizes John Irving s idea of helplessness that he presents through the novel because it
shows how right from the beginning Owen had no other options. Any way that he approached the
situation he was going to die and he just had to prepare the best he could for

De Stijl Research Paper
There were many contributions made by the artists and designers working in the De Stijl and
the Constructivism movements. Two artists that greatly contributed to the De Stijl movement
were Picasso and Braque. Their paintings helped in defining a vocabulary of geometric forms ,
while still using the elements of the real world. Another very important contributor to the De
Stijl movement was Piet Mondrian. Mondrian also helped in defining the vocabulary of art and
design, even further than Picasso and Braque had previously done. He used only primary colors,
along with black and white, in his artwork. Mainly, all the artists of the De Stijl movement
wanted their artwork to simply rely on the fundamental characteristics of having a vertical and
horizontal grid. These artists hoped by using this grid, their artwork would open up space,
instead of enclosing space. Gerrit Rietveld showed these same defining characteristics of the De
Stijl art in his famous chair. His chair completely went against the traditional, or the expected,
elements of a normal chair. Both the arms and the base of the chair are insistently locked in a
vertical and horizontal grid. The seat and the back of the chair were used to help create a more
open space. Rietveld also only used... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most Constructivism artists focused on creating a dynamic space, uniting art and everyday life
through mass production and industry , showing non objective elements in useful ways and
showing the simplicity of works of art. One designer that greatly contributed to the Constructivism
movement was El Lissitzky. Her design for the poster Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge shows
simple images depicting the Reds and Whites while using propagandistic aims . Although fighting
is evident in both a literal and figurative way in her artwork, her design is also trying to depict
another aim one that shows almost sexual

Studies in Brazil Resulted in Janice Perlman s Book, The...
For once complete year (1968 1969), Janice Perlman lived in the favelas (informal housing
settlements of Rio de Janeiro in the beautiful country of Brazil. Her studies conducted research
which resulted in the book The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de
Janeiro, published in 1976. The book extensively disagreed with the negative perspectives of the
urban poor that were prevalent at the time. Her first book criticized the attitude accepted by the
people against the urban poor for their alleged disability to integrate themselves into the city s job
market. Moreover, a key argument was to identify the irony and absurdity behind blaming the
victims for their own poverty. In 1999, thirty years later, Perlman decided to revisit Rio de Janeiro
and began a new study with the previously used locations: the favela of Catacumba, which was
destroyed in 1970, forcing its residents to relocated to multiple low income apartment complexes
known as conjuntos; Nova Brasilia, which became part of the infamous Complexo do Alemao (a
complex of many favelas); and lastly the municipality of Duque de Caxias which is located in
region known as the Lowlands of the State of Rio (Baixada Fluminense). This newly acquired
research served in the production of Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio de Janeiro.
This book tells the stories of people that Perlman interviewed along with their children and
grandchildren. She blends detailed personal testimonies with insightful

Making Sense of White Working Class Educational Underachievement
Summary
The article Making sense of white working class underachievement by Diane Raey (2009) In the
K. P. Sveimsson (ed) Who Cares about the White Working Class? , Published by The Runnymeade
Trust, is important in indicating the weaknesses of the education system in the United Kingdom
today. According to this article, the White working class children do not perform well in academic
performance. This issue is the centre stage for a tug of war among the parents, teachers, the
government and the wealthy and middle class people within this jurisdiction. As it emerges, the
issue is more complex than it seems and includes historical perspectives, the perceptions towards the

Children from the white working families do not feature anywhere in class or in administration due
process. School administration and teachers want nothing to do with them. It is also important to
note that in most cases, the wealthy make policies of any govern sector including schools as Diane
points out.
For the white working families children to do well in education and perform well, they would
have to change. However, changing is somehow risky and even limited. After all, the students
may change to defy all odds but they do not have an effect on the policy making process which is
for the middle class and the wealthy. At the same time, it would be extremely challenging to go
above the perceptions in the society. The middle class and the wealthy also need to change.
Change in this case is acceptance of the white working class families as they are and work
together to address the problem together. However, this seems to be just an illusion basing on the
perceptions the middle class and the wealthy have towards the white working class group.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The article by Diane Raey (2009) titled Making sense of white working class underachievement
provides a lot of information on the problems leading to low academic performance of the white
working class children. The article has well articulated sections and topics, which describe the
problem well. In each section, the author provides all the necessary information

Essay On The Influence Of Independence On Early America
The Influence of Freedom and Independence on the Early American Authors. The conversation
about freedom has no discernable beginning, it seems it always was and possibly always will be.
People are discontent when someone or something is ruling over them. Whether it is African
American slaves being ruled by white masters, people being ruled by their societies, or people
under the rule of their government communities are discontent with the outcome. The main premise
of freedom is unchanged, it is by definition the opportunity given for the exercise of one s rights,
powers, desires, or the like. Even though freedom has stayed fundamentally the same, its
application has changed over time. The freedom for slaves may be the first instance to come... Show

In both Sojourner Truth s speech and Herman Melville s story Bartleby, the Schrivener society is
restraining them to the place previously allocated for them. Truth s argument is close to that of
abolitionists, but freedom is more than just freedom from slavery. Furthermore, she cannot be
truly free until she is released from the social prejudices associated with her gender that are
restraining her. If she does not stay in her assigned place she risks being expelled from society.
Similar to Truth, Bartleby is also given a place in society. He too is discontent with what society
chose for him. He may not be enslaved to a human master, but he is not completely free since
society still dictates what he is allowed to do with his life. As a result, Bartleby rebelled against
societal norms and uses his independence to diverge from what society s expectations even if it is
detrimental to his health. If others followed his example and they too threw off societies control on
them their community may have fallen apart, then the community could rebuild it stronger. The
largest hold society has over the individual is by choosing to be an individual, society may remove
them and make them an

Pros And Cons Of Traditional Samurai In Modern Japan
Introduction
Samurai s were the Japanese warrior noblemen who dominated Japan from the 10th to the 19th
century. They held a special position in society where they were the only people who were allowed
to carry a sword and followed a code of honour called Bushido which is best translated to the way
of the warrior . It was a strict set of rules where one rule was broken, a suicide ritual must be taken

Case Study Of Allianz
International Orientation
The question of internationalization is crucial in an industry where size is critical. Ever since the
second part of the 20th century, insurance companies have been facing market pressures, increasing
costs reducing profit margins and an increasing amount of regulations. To face these changing
market dynamics, the industry has been consolidating, following a big fish eat the small fish logic.
Allianz is the perfect illustration of that model. The company is based in Germany but has
extended its roots all over Europe, like most of its European competitors. However, it appears
slightly more internationalized than its competitors: 44,3% of the firm s 2013 non life revenues

markets with untapped potential. Although fast growing economies like Asia and Latin America

Allianz to generate premiums. The growth in GDP and the low penetration rate of these countries
is very promising. There is a 3% of insurance penetration rate in China versus 8% in the United

The Road Outside The Motel
Now and then, a car will travel past on the main road outside the motel, which creates an almost
soothing whizzing noise. With each traveling car, the shimmering headlights pierce through the
gaps in the curtain. I should really be asleep, but instead for some strange reason I m wide
awake, thinking about everything like I normally do. Since a young age, I ve always been an
over thinker. I glance to Dean on my right, but he s fast asleep with only his bare back facing me
while the rest of him is slumped over on his side. A small smile breaks on my face, despite laying

That s the part I m struggling with, and have done for quite a while, but tonight s events have put
even more weight on my shoulders. How the hell does Dean cope with it so well? Or is he

knack to tackle high pressure situations with calm and composure. Even if Dean is worried
about what is facing us, a huge part of me would want him to remain strong, otherwise I know I
would have a breakdown! He s the one who is keeping me stable at the moment. I just hope this
whole thing with staying at Amy s grandfather s place won t backfire on us, otherwise it would
be my fault, and there is nothing we could do to get ourselves out of that mess. An uneasy sigh
leaves me, becoming the only thing that can be heard in the room. Staring hopelessly at the
cracked ceiling, like I have done for the last couple of hours, a ruffle comes from Dean s side of
the bed. His bare muscular body rolls over to face me, I turn naturally to face him only to see the
whites of his eyes staring right at me. Talk to me, he whispers while repositioning his arm so he
can rest his head on it. Don t be stupid, get some sleep! I whisper back, coaxing him to go back to
his slumber, despite his widened eyes. I couldn t sleep much, in fact I ve been up for the last hour

A Modern Day Minstrel Show
It is clear that our country s criminal justice system is the new Jim Crow; with a huge majority of
felons being African American, it is obvious that people of color have it harder when it comes to
crime sentences. We must acknowledge that mass incarceration and the Jim Crow era are greatly
similar. Minstrel shows, which showed black men to be lazy, dumb, and clownish, once justified
the oppression of african americans. Many now believe that gangsta rapdoes just the same and is the
modern day minstrel show, by portraying blacks to be drug dealers, angry, and violent men.
Though many people believe that gangsta rap reinforces these stereotypes, it s important for one to
realize that this form of expression is not a modern day version of blackfaceperformances.
Blackface performances were popular in American theaters for roughly 100 years, beginning
around the 1830 s. In 1950 s blackface minstrel shows, white and black performers were not able
to share the stage therefore they opted to paint their faces black with polish. These black
characters were always portrayed as either villains or comedic. Blackface had been used to make
arguments for slavery and why African Americans should not be given full human rights. These
are narratives created by white men that were made to oppress and dehumanize an entire race of
people. The minstrel show clip titled Cotton and Chick Watts Blackface Minstrel Show Comedy

Naked Egg Essay
The science of the naked egg project is based on the ideas of biochemistry. Biochemistry explores
the chemical processes related to living organisms. This is a science that brings together biology
and chemistry. Biochemistry focuses on processes happening at molecular level, what s happening
inside our cells, studying components like proteins, and lipids and organelles. It looks at how cells
communicate with each other. Through the comprehension of specific idea about biochemistry the
experiment of the naked egg can be understood. Prior experimentation, the history of the egg, and

The inside of the egg stays intact and it is held together by two fragile membranes just inside the

seawater pH, carbonate ion concentration, and saturation states of biologically important calcium

the climate, but it is also making oceans more acidic. Oceans absorb about a quarter of the carbon
dioxide, humans produce this by burning fossil fuels each year, that is changing their basic
chemistry. This can be bad for creatures in the ocean that have calcium carbonate in their shells or

How Private Military Companies Affect Modern Africa
The prevalence of mercenaries in African warfare has been continual since the first
Portuguese slavers set foot in South West Africa 500 years ago. It is difficult to find a war in
Africa, especially post World War Two, where mercenaries were not employed by at least one side,
if not both. With the growth of professionalized military companies and the loss of political will to
deploy conventional forces by Western countries, the usage of mercenaries is only going to
increase. This growth is leading to studies about the ethical, economic, and political applications
and ramifications regarding private military companies and their future use in
Africa. This literature review examines policy experts #39; and political scientists #39; research ...

The empirical research concluded two findings. If only a single PMC is hired, it is more likely to
underperform and prolong civil war and if multiple PMCs intervene in an ongoing civil war it is
more likely to be terminated.4 For example, if six PMCs intervene in the sixth year of a civil

Frankenstein wants to create life and states that his new species would bless [him] as their creator

B. How many tickets must ALLTEL Pavilion sell to earn $30,000 operating income after taxes,
assuming a 40 percent tax rate?
Is it reasonable to assume this level of operating income will be achieved? Briefly explain. $30,000
/ (1 0.40) = 4x($40.08 $3.05) + 1x($13.09 $3.05) $263,245 $30,000 / (1 0.40) = x($158.16)
$265,245 $30,000 = x($94.896) $157,947 $187,947 = x($94.896) x = 1980.5577 tickets
1(1980.5577) = 1981 comp tickets 4(1980.5577) = 7923 paying tickets in order to earn $30,000
Operating Income after taxes The total number of 7923 paying tickets is reasonable to be achieved,
although it is above the number of 7000 tickets that the reserved seating can actually hold at
ALLTEL Pavilion.
3. What should be the average ticket price (for all ticket types combined A through D) for the
KFBS concert if the fixed pay fee is $200,000 (rather than $160,635) and the Pavilion expects to
sell 7,000 tickets and wants to earn $30,000 operating income after 40 percent in taxes?
After you estimate the average ticket price for all ticket types combined (which is $22.12 for the
situation depicted in Exhibit 2), estimate the price for each type of seat (i.e., in Exhibit 2: A
$36.29, B $22.22, C $11.31, D $4.92). [Hint: assume the sales mix for A, B, C, and D seats remains

Manchester City Will Never Be The Same After Pep Guardiola s Arrival

Pep Guardiola has managed only two clubs in his short managerial career. But the clubs he has

The Bay of Pigs was an attempted invasion that occurred on the south coast of Cuba. While
researching this occurrence, it seems that it was a failed attempt to invade communist Cuba.
This invasion was to overthrow the communist leader, Fidel Castro, had power in office until the

At first, the United States accepted this new form of government as a relief from Batista s way of
governing Cuba. Castro soon started making harsh decisions while in office. He announced his
decision to form into Marxism Leninism, which scared the United States (Goode Stephen). Cuba
then started strengthening its military by forming alliances with other countries and investing in
upgrading their military equipment. Fidel Castro took great pride in his military abilities, he
expanded his army to 400,000 soldiers. This size of army was about ten times as much as what
Batista had it at. Kennedy s cabinet was frightened by this. Because of the extensive military, What
was Castro planning to do? they asked themselves. This made Cuba, and its alliances, at top

Minister told the leaders at the United Nations meeting that he was aware of plans of the invasion.
He then stated that he knew the United Stated CIA was behind the attack. They figured out this
information from various media networks that were informed about the invasion by the CIA being
careless about where and who they were revealing their plans to. This allowed Castro to become
prepared for the invasion along with the areas that were going to be attacked and a time line of

Choose not to be harmed and you won t feel harmed. Don t feel harmed and you haven t been
(Meditations, Book 4)
Meditations is a collection of writings consisting of 12 books written by Marc Aurelius in the
course of his life in which by reminding himself he reminds us to be human, to practice empathy,
humility, kindness and to realize that time is short in this world and we should make the best of it.
While reading the book, we discover an emperor who was a simple man and who did put great
importance on his royal status. Instead, he was a man of plain tastes which shows him as being
humble and wise. The theme of the book is mainly focused on the nature of man and his place in
the universe. Marc Aurelius argues that everything comes into existence from nature and when
things complete their destined time they return back to nature. Marcus also focuses on the ... Show

In Marc Aurelius s view, a person who can see the world objectively also has the ability to have a
more profound understanding of the world. Life can be lonely and sad, but this should never stop
us from wondering at our existence in the universe:
The Meditations opens with Marcus Aurelius s giving thanks to the people who shaped his
personality into what he is. He thanks his grandfather for teaching him to have good morals and
be even tempered; his father for teaching him to be modest, humble and have a manly character ;
his mother for teaching him to be non materialistic; and his teachers who taught him the value of
hard work, self discipline, tolerance and rationality. From his mentors he also learned to love
practical philosophy, instead of metaphysics and the vanity of the Sophists. He also thanks his wife

Intersexual disorders though rare have occurred throughout history. The victims of the condition
were labeled Hermaphrodites after the Greek son of Hermes and Aphrodite, who was succumbed
by the water nymph Salmacis and transformed into an androgynous being. Today, disorders of
sexual differentiation (DSDs) occur at a rate of about 1.7% worldwide annually (Larson, 2011). It is
defined to include congenital conditions in which development of chromosomal, gonadal, or
anatomical sex is atypical. The treatment of individuals born with this anomaly differs in various
regions of the world. The responses to the condition vary from being put to death, to being admired
and called upon to give advice in the battle of the sexes.
Until the late nineteenth century very little research was done by the medical fraternity. During the
late 1800 s advances in gynecological medicine and a multitude of examinations spawned by
military preparedness, reports of the condition increased and facilitated an interest in research.
Because most in the medical fraternity were politically conservative there was a strong influence to

The Importance Of Family Communication
Communication is key to survival. Without communication the world will come to a standstill.
Every relationship needs communication to be successful. We all use communication in our day to

family members. Verbal and non verbal communication between family members is called family
communication (Epstein, Bishop, Ryan, Miller, Keitner, (1993)). Communication not only involves
talking but it also involves listening to others. It creates closeness among family members and
allows them to share their feelings towards each other. Effective communication is a foundation to

Alzheimer s Disease In Nursing Home
In the United States there are approximately 15,700 nursing homes. These facilities are responsible
for providing long term care to a large percent of the elderly population in our country. Many
families and individuals rely on care from these facilities to ensure that they are in a safe, caring
environment where their medical needs are fulfilled. Unfortunately, many seniors are not only
being neglected, but are being mistreated, misdiagnosed and receiving inappropriate medical care.
Specifically, In Massachusetts, there is a widespread epidemic concerning the use of antipsychotic

Economics Of Immigration
July 05, 2016
Introduction
When touching upon the topic of immigration and the United States economy, one must
acknowledge that the impact that immigrants have on the economy can be perceived as both
negative and positive. For years there has always been an ongoing debate whether the benefits
outweighs the costs. One can be led to believe that immigration increases a nations overall
productivity. Therefore, leading to an overall increase in profits. However, other factors such as the
cost of migration, complementary versus substitute labor and illegal immigration do impact the
nations average labor wages, American businesses and politics on all economic levels. It is often
easier to assume that immigration, especially when it involves undocumented ... Show more content

It s easy to argue that illegal immigrants are stealing the jobs that a typical native born citizen
would have. However, immigration in a sense where supply and demand can be applied benefits
the economy because it generates more production. Immigrants are more open to lower wages,
therefore reducing the cost of production and the cost of products for businesses and the average
consumers. In addition, one may argue that immigrants lower the average wage when in fact it
does not affect the skilled worker which is often referred to as the native born. Lastly, when it
comes taking jobs as opposed to providing them, it is easy to stem away from the fact that
immigrants are complementary resources as opposed to substitute ones. Immigrants can generate
more jobs and prevent businesses from going more automotive. Although politically, immigration is
seen as an economic strain, it also keeps the economy

Hip-Hop s Musical Evolution of Rap Essay
The hip hop culture began in the streets of New York City during the 1970 s and has gone through
tremendous changes up until now. Hip Hop consists of four elements: rap, graffiti, break dancing,
and the disc jockey. In this paper, I intend to fully explain the evolution of rap music, from its
infancy to the giant industry it is today.
Hip Hop emerged in the 1970 s upon the arrival of a one Kool DJ Herc. Kool DJ Herc migrated to

original and to rhyme to the beat of the music. One could rap about the issues pertaining to his or

Kool DJ Herc opened the door to the world for many up and comers such as Grandmaster Flash.

Remembering a Forgotten war by Donald R. Hickey 2012, an academic journal, talks about the
military history where by people were subjected to a difficult and different lifestyle than the one
they were used too at that time.
The journal explains in details how James Madison and other citizens in the state experienced harsh
situations brought upon them by the Republican repugnance which was fee payment. The residents
had to pay some money like the infrastructure fee tax, loans, standing military and also pay some to
the national bank, a routine they were not used too.
These rules affected people s lives and disrupted their life style living conditions causing them to
share Thomas Jefferson s faith which clearly stated that an untrained military force could easily
conquer them in case they did not better the training of their militia or even administration . The
major event that occurred was the forceful act of unfair fee payment people were subjected to and
how they reacted to the situation.
Jefferson s disregard for the army s supply caused a greater impact that could be further felt more
significantly as a method for the War of 1812 than the creation of the Military Training Academy.
This happened when he together with his successor refused to negotiate with the Britons on
realistic terms. By doing so, he depended on commercial sanctions that destroyed the economy and
diminished revenues.

Being Earnest Comedy Essay
Wilde uses the conventions of comedy to criticize Victorian society; four examples of this are the
use of inversion, the presentation of marriage as a business deal, the use of deception and lies and
the comic conservative ending.
One of the conventions of comedy is inversions of gender roles and Wilde inverts gender roles of
men to the women in the play most powerfully. Lady Bracknell, despite having married an
aristocrat whilst she was poor, controls and dominates her husband. At one point, she tells Algernon
that your uncle would have to dine upstairs, fortunately he is accustomed to that . This implies that
Lord Bracknell is routinely required to miss his own dinner parties and his attendance is entirely
under control of his wife. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This play criticizes marriages in Victorian society and the aristocratic norm that marriageis more of
a business than for love or happiness. Through these characters Wilde is not only commenting on
the nature of love and marriage, but the place marriage holds in society. During this time in
Victorian society and throughout history, many women married for financial security and social
standing. It was only through their husbands that woman could hope continue living in the lifestyle
to which they were privileged to gain political power. Lady Bracknell s marriage was one of the
marriages that was clearly for business and not for love. Wilde shows how Lady Bracknell has
no emotions for Lord Bracknell; she doesn t even really care about him but only uses him to
increase her own social standing. Similarly, Lady Bracknell also does the same when she tries to
arrange for an eligible suitor for her daughter Gwendolyn, not considering whether Gwendolyn
loves the man or not. He must be in the same social standing as they are and must also belong to
an aristocratic family. Lady Bracknell tells Jack, You can hardly imagine that I and Lord
Bracknell would dream of allowing our only daughter a girl brought up with the utmost care to
marry into a cloak room, and form an alliance with a parcel? Although Jack is rich, he doesn t
have that name and social standing that Lady Bracknell wants rather she is dissatisfied when she
finds out that he was found at a train station inside a handbag! Jack being found inside a handbag
suggests that he was an abandoned baby out of illegitimacy which carried a huge social stigma in
the Victorian era. Such babies were often delivered in secret and abandoned in a public place, like

The Lincoln Electric Company Essay
The Lincoln Electric Company was founded in 1895 by John C. Lincoln, who then partnered with
his younger brother James in 1907. The focus of the company originally was manufacturing electric
motors, which then expanded to include battery chargers and in the early 1900 s to portable
welding machines. (Lincoln Electric, 2016) The company was founded originally on a construct of
Christian values, which may have played a role in creating the dominant culture of the corporation.
(Sharplin) This paper presents an evaluative analysis of the business case study presented by Arthur
Sharplin, with a focus on determining the overall corporate culture of Lincoln Electric categorically.
John and James Lincoln professed to be devout Christians and embodied their faith in their
treatment of their employees early on in the company. While a clear hierarchy and protection of
management control was evident in their organizational structure, they ensured that employees had
regular access to the management team both formally and informally. Management roles may have
been protected and controlled but they were seen strictly as tasks to perform just as every other
employee was assigned their tasks. In this respect the workplace was and remains designed strictly
around function, no perks exist for management that do not exist for every employee. (Sharplin)
This example points to the importance of a people oriented culture in the workplace and is almost
egalitarian in nature. (Flat World Knowledge,

Rural Tourism And Urban Tourism
For some time, rural areas have seen a marked decrease in economic potential as a result of the
urbanization of most areas in the United States. Unlike many of the more populated areas, rural
areas are home to small communities that exist over a vast amount of land. Farmers, cattle herders
and the like often suffer from a lack of economic certainty whereas their profits hinge on the
conditions around them. It has become increasingly necessary to implement new methods of
revitalizing the economies of ruralareas in order to create a more equally profitable nation. There
are many historical landmarks, key events and persons of interest all over the United States and that
appeal only appreciates over time. Many rural areas are beginning to capitalize on the industry that
seems to bring the most unbridle profit, tourism. Rural tourism is inclusive of many experiences that
take place in a rural setting from eco tourism to ethno tourism. There are many misconceptions that

Virgil gets into a car accident on his first night out on the truck. The cause of this was an
accident but Duddy took advantage of Virgil even when he knew the job was dangerous (251).
Duddy s actions are starting to affect people on a major level but the greed for money still
overpowers his decision and he moves on to get more money. Yvette distances herself from
Duddy and takes over a fulltime job helping Virgil live his everyday life. These events are all the
consequences of Duddy s greed, just so that he can buy his land. Throughout his coming of age
his greed increases and as the novel progresses he loses more personal things just for money.
After he loses his workplace Duddy s greed has already resulted in a major downfall because it
changed the way he acted towards his peers, and after they left his businesses began to crumble.
Ironically Duddy goes back to work the taxi for money, trying to rebuild himself, and still trying
to get money for the lake. His relentless work is both good and bad, as he is trying to good things
but ultimately his greed gets the better of him and he makes a bad decision. These decisions
continue into the final part of the novel where Duddy becomes a man but is so close to his goal
that his greed for money becomes

Which Wooden s Pyramid Of Success Fits Today s Business...
John Wooden s Pyramid of Success BUS 518: Project Management Leadership
Gregory C. Hyde, Jr.
Professor Paul Richardson
July 31, 2016
The extent to which Wooden s pyramid of success fits today s business environment
Touching on some key tenets of his pyramid of success, he provides what is ideal, what if
followed would lead to great success. The pyramid ideals don t really aptly fit in today s
business environment. Most of the times, the flag is usually highly held up by the leader, a C.E.O
or the managing director of an organization. The staff usually does not follow through with these
aspirations. Workers are not enthusiastic about their job roles; they are there because they needed
a job. They thus do not care about being their very best in what they do. Leaders also have no time
to make the staff work as a team; to some leadership is not a calling. It is something they have to
do to earn a living which is a really pitiful situation.
However, top management in most institutions exhibit key alertness especially those in political
campaigns or competitive parties. For example currently, in the US, the battle between Trump and
Hillary is quite stiff. The men and women behind them exhibit great initiative, alertness and
somewhat self control. If I may continue using political examples the current President and deputy
president of Kenya, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr. William Ruto went through the storms of

Facebook s Recruiting Problem, Explained
CFO Gideon Yu s controversial departure from Facebook has increased focus on the company s
problems retaining top talent.
But Facebook s people problem isn t limited to executive retention. The hot startup with over 200
million users also has a surprisingly hard time recruiting new employees from top executives to
college grads to star Googlers. Sources familiar with the situation tell us Facebook s close rate on
new employees it wants to hire hovers around 80%. One former Facebook employee who like
many former employees, might have an agenda puts the rate below 50%. Either way, for a
company with the potential to mint hundreds of millionaires in a rare Silicon Valley IPO, both...

The eight HR processes that contributed to Toyota s downfall
If the root cause of the problems Toyota is facing are failure by employees to make good decisions,
confront negative news, and make a convincing business case for immediate action, then the HR
processes that may have influenced those decisions must be examined.
The HR processes that must at least be considered as sus pect include rewards processes, training
processes, perform ance management processes, and the hiring process. 1. Rewards and recognition
The purpose of any corporate reward process is to encourage and incent the right be haviours and
to discourage the negative ones. It s im portant for the reward process to incent the gathering of
infor mation about problems. It s equally important to reward employees who are successful in
getting executives to take immediate action on negative information.
Key questions Were rapid growth (sales have nearly doubled recently) and lean cost cutting
recognised and rewarded so heavily that no one was willing to put the brakes on growth so as to
focus on safety? Were the rewards for demon strating error free results so high that obvious errors
were swept under the table? 2. Training The purpose of

Comparing August 2026 And There Will Come Soft Rains
Ray Bradbury s short story August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains shares several recurring
themes and points with Sara Teasdale s poem, There Will Come Soft Rains. Bradbury s story
describes a lone house in the remains of a futuristic city, destroyed by a nuclear war. Teasdale s
poem states the theory that if humankind were to disintegrate, it would hardly be remembered, let
alone missed. Both works share similar elements revolving around rain, and mankind s passing
going unnoticed. Though they build off of each other in this way, these pieces also differ in a few
areas, such as the belief that mankind or the means of its demolition will be forgotten by all entities.
The similarities and differences between the poem and the short storyhighlight the central themes in
both pieces.
In both creations, rain is an important recurring component. In Ray Bradbury s story, the first
reference to rain is in the very beginning, when the weather machine reports, Rain, rain, go away;
rubbers, raincoats for today (pg 1). Several mentions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for similarities, both pieces share the mention of rain as a central element. Both pieces also
agree to a certain extent that if humankind were to come to an end, there would be little or no
memory of it. On the contrast side of the analysis, the pieces differed on two primary points. First,
the theory that humankind would be forgotten entirely was posed by the poem, and only partially
agreed upon by the short story. The other point that was different between the two pieces was the
speculation that the destruction of mankind itself would go unremembered as well. Both pieces,
though differing in a few primary opinions, worked well to accentuate both the specific and more
general points in one

Calvin Christian High School s Advanced Placement

conducted a poll in Walker, Michigan to better understand the citizens political views. The
government class s twelve students collaborated over the course approximately two weeks to create
an unbiased poll with concise demographic questions and current political issues. The twelve
students broke down into groups of four to formulate questions. After researching current topics and
forming the questions, the class carefully critiqued each question to prevent bias, incoherency, or

One of those questions pertains to an individual identifying as either a Protestant Christian or a
Catholic and their view on the legality of same sex marriage. Therefore, one could hypothesize
that the majority of Christians, including Catholics and Protestants, object to the legality of
same sex marriage, and of those individuals who object, the majority are men. Several factors
play an important role in the hypothesis that Christians would disagree with same sex marriage.
Regarding the poll, respondents were asked to pick the choice that best represented their stance
on the legality of same sex marriage. Respondents could choose from the following answers:
strongly disagree , somewhat disagree , indifferent , somewhat agree , strongly agree , and
undecided . The group the hypothesis pertains to are the people who said strongly disagree or

a certain degree, disagreement with legalizing same sex marriage involves important passages in
their holy book, the Bible. The Bible contains passages that both deem homosexuality as sinful, as

The Ship Poem
Within The Ship Starting, there are three notable instances of repetition. For one, the word ship
occurs three times (including in the title). Given that ships are the topic of interest in the poem, this
instance of repetition has the basic effect of bringing the locus of the text back to the title, or
central theme. The second example can be observed in the second and third lines, where the word
sails is followed by moonsails, a made up compound version of the former word. Using the same
word twice, and in this case, by adding on and modifying its second appearance, the reader is
likely to acquire a clear picture of the scene that Whitman lays out in the poem. Emphasizing the
image of the ships sails by preceding the words with diction such as all and even attributes the
sails to a sense of abundance or freedom. The third instance of repetition occurs in line four,
where she speeds she speeds is used to describe the motions that the ship is making. Whereas it
would be considered grammatically correct to include a comma after the first mention of she
speeds, leaving it out better reflects the content of the poem: she speeds she speeds gives the
impression of a ship slicing through the water quickly. In many cases, using the same word twice
in a row takes away from a text s message, but in The Ship Starting, this repetition instead works in
Whitman s favor by supporting the visual imagery he seeks to create.
Walt Whitman s The Ship Starting is a poem that

The Civil Rights Of African Americans
The term civil rights is very broad when it is to be defined. It has many different aspects as in to
what it can mean, from integration all the way to voting rights of African Americans. My main
point is to focus on the Selma Marches from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama, but also
to dig deeper into it to find the significance of a certain day, the day was called Bloody Sunday. I
want to find out the historical situation behind the marchers who were beat and killed on that day
and also look at John Lewis, and the key part that he played into the events that happened on that
day and to also look at the reasoning behind the whole march. Racism is defined in many different
variations and means different things to certain people;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On March 7, 1965, a very famous five day, 54 long mile march of about 600 peaceful protestors
took place from Selma, Alabama to the state capital Montgomery, Alabama. This was a very
peaceful march that was caused by the Voting Rights Movement for African Americans in Selma. In
Selma, African Americans made up more than half the population, but only a mere two percent
were actual registered voters. Discrimination and intimidation tactics aimed at African American
kept them from registering and voting. The demonstrators marched to demand fairness in voter
registration. With over half the population of Selma being African American there is no reason or
excuse besides ignorance for why only two percent had the right to vote. To give sort of a
background to leading up to the march, in 1963 a group of community activists formed the Dallas
County Improvement Association Dallas County being the actual county that Selma is in. With the
goal of having White and Colored signs removed from public buildings, an investigation of police
brutality against Africans Americans, and increased access to jobs and voter registration. Local
officials ignored the Association s concerns.
At the invitation of the Improvement Association, Dr. Martin Luther King and the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference also known as the (SCLC) chose Selma as a focus for civil rights
demonstrations in 1964. The mayor of

Phrasing Trauma In Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl
Phrasing Trauma: Ozick s The Shawl Few topics still carry a stronger resonance than that of the
experiences of those who were sent to concentration camps during the Holocaust. Cynthia Ozick
tells a deeply moving story about one woman s experience being sent to and surviving in a camp
in The Shawl . It is an intimate look at a mother s love for her daughters in the face of evil both
from outside and within their family. The diction of The Shawl is heavily influenced by the mental
state of its main character. The story s perspective, although third person, is focused on Rosa and
told in a way that is representative of her trauma. In this way, Ozick s specific dictional choices
enhance the reader s emotional connection with Rosa. By using convoluted and indirect diction...

As is often the case in trauma fiction, The Shawl is an attempt to convey to the reader an
emotional scaring story. Ozick accomplishes this in part by choosing obscurified diction that
makes it difficult for the reader to process that events that are unfolding. And the moment Magda
s feathered round head and her pencil legs and balloonish belly and zigzag arms splashed against
the fence, the steel voices went mad in their growling, urging Rosa to run and run to the spot
where Magda had fallen from her flight against the electrical fence; (Ozick 248). Steel voices,
zigzag arms, splashed : none of these phrases seem to describe Magda or what happened to her in
any meaningful way. It is the nonsensical nature of Ozick s diction, however, that make the reader
uneasy. By choosing diction that doesn t make sense for describing a human, Ozick shows the

Gun Violence In Schools Research Paper
Schools across the nation have hired a police officer to patrol the buildings throughout the
school. With an officer patrolling a school s campus all day, fewer acts of gun violence would
occur. The students would feel much safer if there was an officer patrolling the campus all day
long. Also when an act of violence occurs on a campus, the officer patrolling would be able to
react quickly and hopefully stop the violence. An officer at a schoolcan do a lot more than protect
the members throughout the school though. Schools will hire officers that have first aid training.
Officers could respond to an emergency before any medical help can arrive. However, school
officers might use extreme force on a student, and people think that is unnecessary.

Literary Analysis Of The Widow s Lamnt In Springtime
William Carlos Williams was from Rutherford, New Jersey, born in 1883. By trade, he was both
a doctor and writer. Williams published poetry, novels, and essays in small magazines. Williams
started as an imagist movement poet, which emphasized simplicity, clarity of expression, and
precision through the use of exacting visual images (poets.org). He later began to write more about
the life of everyday people. His poem, The Widow s Lament in Springtime follows this writing
style.
The poem The Widow s Lament in Springtime is a poem about a women who has lost her
husband of thirty five years. Williams writes in the voice of a grieving woman instead of in his
own voice. Now that her husband has died, the widow cannot find joy in her yard that she used to
love. The widow may even be considering suicide. Williams, writing in free verse, writes a
metaphor comparing the grief of a widow to her blooming yard in the springtime setting a tone of
great sadness for the widow.
The title itself gives us important clues about this poem. From the beginning before even
reading the first line of the poem, we know that it will be a sad story. The widow being someone
who has experienced a loss and lament is a word used for passionate grief and sorrow.
Springtime is a time of growth and rebirth, the affirming of new life. Williams title may lead us
to believe that the widow is in the early stages of life without her husband and the early stages of
grief. This may be her first spring without her husband. She is exploring the overwhelming
feelings of grief over losing her husband, comparing her grief to the new life or blooming of her
yard. The widow begins by telling us Sorrow is my own yard (Reed). She, the widow is
comparing the sorrow and grief that she feels with her yard. She takes ownership of her pain in
the phrase my own . Springtime is usually a time of renewal and growth, but for the widow it is a
time of sorrow and pain, deep sadness because her husband is not there with her this year. The
new growth of her yard just closes round me this year . Something that is closing around you may
make you feel trapped, or uncomfortable. This year her yard brings her feeling of pain. The widow s

Mystical Experience, By Chris Frith
The human brain is the common thread which ties these selections of literature together. Our mind
controls our every action, thought, and dream, but do we shape our mind or does our mind shape
us? We are one and the same, our mind and ourselves, but who has more control our conscious mind
or our subconscious mindand how do we know what we know? in the required texts, Mystical
Experience, Numinous, and Making Up the Mind we discover unique perspectives on
understanding the unknown parts of the complex humanpsyche with the information they provide.
I found the PDF Mystical Experience very interesting, especially the statement mystics
unconsciously merely attribute a doctrinal content to ordinary experiences. At first, I didn t
understand the meaning of this statement but then after I let this idea sink in I realized how
powerful this was to me. Every aspect of our lives can be analyzed as reactions or messages from a

quench my subconscious desires then what has been real emotion and what hasn t been. but you
could counter this by argentine that everything we feel is based off the brain releasing
endorphins, therefore, is it even a possibility to feel a meaningful connection to a higher power if

Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Murder can be defined as the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. In
Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus and his conspirators murder Caesar and convince the people
of Rome that it was a justified act. Mark Antony, a friend of Caesar, seeks justice for his dear
friend. In his funeral speech Antony uses rhetorical strategies to persuade the Romans that Caesar s
death was unjustified. Through persuasion, Antony uses the strategies: rhetorical questions, verbal
irony and the appeal of pathos to sway the Romans to believe that Caesar s murder was unjust.
Furthermore, Antony s use of rhetorical questions has an effect on the opinions of the citizens of
Rome. Antony effectively uses rhetorical questions to get the Romans to agree that Caesar s
murder was unjustified. He asks rhetorical questions in order to get the people to consider what he
is saying and possibly change their minds. After telling the citizens of Rome about how... Show

He uses Caesar s dead body to appeal to the emotions of the crowd and convince them that Caesar

tears, prepare to shed them now...Here is himself, marred, as you see, with traitors (III.ii.163
192). In this passage Antony focuses the crowd s attention on Caesar s body and tells them how
his murder was a product of treason. In telling the romans that Caesar was killed by his friends,
whom he trusted, Antony appeals to the emotions of the crowd. The citizens of Rome are
clearly affected by Antony s use of pathos when they respond with O piteous spectacle
(III.ii.192), O Woeful day (III.ii.193) and We will be revenged (III.ii.195). The citizens realize it
is a sad day and feel pity for Caesar indicating an effective appeal of pathos. Antony effectively
appeals to the Roman s emotions because they are starting to want revenge for Caesar s unjustified

Lateral Periodontal Cyst Case Study
Lateral periodontal cysts (LPC) are defined as nonkeratinized and noninflammatory developmental
cysts located adjacent or lateral to the root of a vital tooth. These lesions are more common found
in adults between 50 and 70 years of age. These cysts arise along the lateral periodontium or within
the bone between the roots of erupted vital teeth. The Botryoid odontogenic cyst (BOC) is a
polycystic variant of the lateral periodontal cyst. Most often Botryoid odontogenic cysts are
multilocular, and larger than lateral periodontal cysts, ranging between 5 mm and 45 mm and often
extending into the periapical region of involved teeth.
Etiology
It is uncertain the source of origin of LPC, authors have suggested the involvement of three ... Show

Prognosis and Predictive Factors
Lateral periodontal cysts and Botryoid odontogenic cysts should be removed surgically by
conservative enucleation or excision, and the patient should be followed radiographically for
several years afterward to check for recurrence. The bone will likely regenerate in the bony defect
over 6 months to 1 year. Root deviation caused by lateral periodontal cysts are reduced, or they
become normalized after removal of the cyst without the need for orthodontic intervention.
Development of ameloblastoma and squamous cell carcinoma has been reported to occur in lateral
periodontal cysts.
Differential Diagnosis
Gingival Cyst: has the same type of epithelial lining as the lateral periodontal cyst and is located in
the same area, but it lateral periodontal cyst does not have clinical manifestation.
Mental Foramen: anatomical structure through which mental nerve and vessels exit into the mental
area of mandible.
Odontogenic Keratocyst: it is an odontogenic developmental cyst lesion with unique microscopic
appearance. It is usually multilocular and lateral periodontal cyst is not. This lesion is most often
seen in the mandibular third molar, but lateral periodontal cyst is frequently located on the
mandible in relation to the premolars and lateral incisors.
Residual Cyst: is a radicular cyst that remains after extraction of the offending tooth. In a lateral
periodontal cyst teeth are present and vitals. If

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Gospel Of Matthew And Mark There are many different gospels that tell a similar story. Matthew and Mark are two Gospels written in a similar way but have different audiences. The story is the Last Supper and is about the last meal that Jesus experienced with his Apostles before his Sacrifice. There are many similarities, but not very many differences. Overall, the same story is told, but from two different perspectives. The Gospelaccording to Matthew is the first book of the New Testament. The story explains how the Messiah, Jesus, was refused by Israel and finally sent the disciples to preach the gospel around the whole world. As Matthew wrote for his fellow Jews, he wrote his Gospel in the language Jesus spoke, Aramaic, which led early Church Fathers to believe Matthew s was the first Gospel. On the other hand, the Gospel of Markteaches that Jesus is the Son of God who assumed human nature. Mark wrote the gospel in Greek for a Gentile Christian audience, which was undergoing persecution, perhaps in Rome. A central theme is that following Jesus often means that a Christian must suffer like Jesus did. Mark s Gospel points out that Jesus accepted this important title, but that he was reluctant to let people know his identity. (Matthew 26:26 30 and Mark 14:22 26 ) The story about the Last Supper according to Matthew s Gospel and Mark s Gospel is about when Jesus and his disciples were eating and Jesus took bread, said a blessing, broke it, gave it to them and said, Take and eat; this is my body. Along with the bread, he then took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to his disciples telling them all to drink it, because it is his blood of the covenant which will be given up for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus said that from now he wouldn t drink the fruit of the vine until he drank it with his disciples with the new in the kingdom of his Father. Afterwards, they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives. Both stories are the same except some of the wording is slightly different. The only differences within the stories are some words within some sentences. For example, in the first sentence in Matthew s version of the Last Supper it says, While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his ... • 3. How I Got From Home Thy Ngoc Diem Ly Professor Sophia Russell ENGL 1101/148 2 September 2015 How I Got Through Bye, my Tiny! My Mom hung up the phone before she could start crying and I took off my headphone, stared at my laptop screen, thought about how much she missed me and had no idea what to do or what I should do next. That had been the way we finished every phone call for the last three weeks the three weeks I d been away from home. Of course I knew that I would go to a class, but what should I do for today, for tomorrow, and for my future? It was somehow so hard to see things clear. Every time we talked, I saw her in my mind with long curvy hair, deep hazelnut brown eyes and thin lips, and promised myself I would be the big girl she could be proud of. She was a mother who did everything for her children, and she did all her best to give me the best education and a chance to follow my dream, so there was no way I d let her down (and also let me down). I always considered myself as a lucky one, because since I was a very young kid, I had already known who I desired to be, what I could do, what I was supposed to do to achieve my goals. And my Mom was the reason that made me even so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Examples Of Helplessness In A Prayer For Owen Meany The idea of helplessness is a behavior where one is forced to endure adversity without consent or ability to control the events that are occurring. John Irving, an American novelist, demonstrates the idea of helplessness in his novel A Prayer for Owen Meany. In this novel Irving uses symbols to enforce the idea of being helpless. Some symbols that he uses throughout the novel include the statue of Watahontowet, the stuffed armadillo, the dressmaker s dummy, and Owen Meany s body at the end of the novel. The statue of Watahantowet appears in the beginning of the novel when it is found out that the original John Wheelwright acquired his land from a local Native American chief named Watahontowet. When Owen is killed his arms are blown off of his body and he appears the same as the other symbols throughout the novel. Without his arms, Owen is finally viewed as completely helpless because not only does he not have any arms but he is now dead. This event is the novel is Irving s final enforcement of the idea of helplessness because it shows how Owen knew how he was going to die the whole time and as he lived his life he was preparing for his death. This was done when he would always make John practice The Shot and he said that it had to be done in less than three seconds. This was the amount of time that they had to get the grenade that Dick threw and get it out the window. Also while the death scene is approaching both John and Owen are realizing all of the signs from the dream that Owen had about his death; the palm trees and all of the children. Both of them knew what was about to happen but only Owen knew that The Shot was a part of it. This event is the novel finalizes John Irving s idea of helplessness that he presents through the novel because it shows how right from the beginning Owen had no other options. • 6. De Stijl Research Paper There were many contributions made by the artists and designers working in the De Stijl and the Constructivism movements. Two artists that greatly contributed to the De Stijl movement were Picasso and Braque. Their paintings helped in defining a vocabulary of geometric forms , while still using the elements of the real world. Another very important contributor to the De Stijl movement was Piet Mondrian. Mondrian also helped in defining the vocabulary of art and design, even further than Picasso and Braque had previously done. He used only primary colors, along with black and white, in his artwork. Mainly, all the artists of the De Stijl movement wanted their artwork to simply rely on the fundamental characteristics of having a vertical and horizontal grid. These artists hoped by using this grid, their artwork would open up space, instead of enclosing space. Gerrit Rietveld showed these same defining characteristics of the De Stijl art in his famous chair. His chair completely went against the traditional, or the expected, elements of a normal chair. Both the arms and the base of the chair are insistently locked in a vertical and horizontal grid. The seat and the back of the chair were used to help create a more open space. Rietveld also only used... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For once complete year (1968 1969), Janice Perlman lived in the favelas (informal housing settlements of Rio de Janeiro in the beautiful country of Brazil. Her studies conducted research which resulted in the book The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de Janeiro, published in 1976. The book extensively disagreed with the negative perspectives of the urban poor that were prevalent at the time. Her first book criticized the attitude accepted by the people against the urban poor for their alleged disability to integrate themselves into the city s job market. Moreover, a key argument was to identify the irony and absurdity behind blaming the victims for their own poverty. In 1999, thirty years later, Perlman decided to revisit Rio de Janeiro and began a new study with the previously used locations: the favela of Catacumba, which was destroyed in 1970, forcing its residents to relocated to multiple low income apartment complexes known as conjuntos; Nova Brasilia, which became part of the infamous Complexo do Alemao (a complex of many favelas); and lastly the municipality of Duque de Caxias which is located in region known as the Lowlands of the State of Rio (Baixada Fluminense). This newly acquired research served in the production of Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio de Janeiro. According to this article, the White working class children do not perform well in academic performance. Children from the white working families do not feature anywhere in class or in administration due process. School administration and teachers want nothing to do with them. It is also important to note that in most cases, the wealthy make policies of any govern sector including schools as Diane points out. For the white working families children to do well in education and perform well, they would have to change. However, changing is somehow risky and even limited. After all, the students may change to defy all odds but they do not have an effect on the policy making process which is for the middle class and the wealthy. At the same time, it would be extremely challenging to go above the perceptions in the society. The middle class and the wealthy also need to change. Change in this case is acceptance of the white working class families as they are and work together to address the problem together. However, this seems to be just an illusion basing on the perceptions the middle class and the wealthy have towards the white working class group. Strengths and Weaknesses The article by Diane Raey (2009) titled Making sense of white working class underachievement provides a lot of information on the problems leading to low academic performance of the white working class children. • 9. Essay On The Influence Of Independence On Early America The Influence of Freedom and Independence on the Early American Authors. The conversation about freedom has no discernable beginning, it seems it always was and possibly always will be. People are discontent when someone or something is ruling over them. Whether it is African American slaves being ruled by white masters, people being ruled by their societies, or people under the rule of their government communities are discontent with the outcome. The main premise of freedom is unchanged, it is by definition the opportunity given for the exercise of one s rights, powers, desires, or the like. Even though freedom has stayed fundamentally the same, its application has changed over time. The freedom for slaves may be the first instance to come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both Sojourner Truth s speech and Herman Melville s story Bartleby, the Schrivener society is restraining them to the place previously allocated for them. Truth s argument is close to that of abolitionists, but freedom is more than just freedom from slavery. Furthermore, she cannot be truly free until she is released from the social prejudices associated with her gender that are restraining her. If she does not stay in her assigned place she risks being expelled from society. Similar to Truth, Bartleby is also given a place in society. He too is discontent with what society chose for him. He may not be enslaved to a human master, but he is not completely free since society still dictates what he is allowed to do with his life. As a result, Bartleby rebelled against societal norms and uses his independence to diverge from what society s expectations even if it is detrimental to his health. If others followed his example and they too threw off societies control on them their community may have fallen apart, then the community could rebuild it stronger. A Modern Day Minstrel Show It is clear that our country s criminal justice system is the new Jim Crow; with a huge majority of felons being African American, it is obvious that people of color have it harder when it comes to crime sentences. We must acknowledge that mass incarceration and the Jim Crow era are greatly similar. Minstrel shows, which showed black men to be lazy, dumb, and clownish, once justified the oppression of african americans. Many now believe that gangsta rapdoes just the same and is the modern day minstrel show, by portraying blacks to be drug dealers, angry, and violent men. Though many people believe that gangsta rap reinforces these stereotypes, it s important for one to realize that this form of expression is not a modern day version of blackfaceperformances. Blackface performances were popular in American theaters for roughly 100 years, beginning around the 1830 s. In 1950 s blackface minstrel shows, white and black performers were not able to share the stage therefore they opted to paint their faces black with polish. These black characters were always portrayed as either villains or comedic. Blackface had been used to make arguments for slavery and why African Americans should not be given full human rights. What should be the average ticket price (for all ticket types combined A through D) for the KFBS concert if the fixed pay fee is $200,000 (rather than $160,635) and the Pavilion expects to sell 7,000 tickets and wants to earn $30,000 operating income after 40 percent in taxes? After you estimate the average ticket price for all ticket types combined (which is $22.12 for the situation depicted in Exhibit 2), estimate the price for each type of seat (i.e., in Exhibit 2: A $36.29, B $22.22, C $11.31, D $4.92). [Hint: assume the sales mix for A, B, C, and D seats remains the same as the mix in the Flash Report (Exhibit 2).] $30,000 / (1 0.40) = 7000 ($13.09 $3.05) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, one may argue that immigrants lower the average wage when in fact it does not affect the skilled worker which is often referred to as the native born. It was only through their husbands that woman could hope continue living in the lifestyle to which they were privileged to gain political power. Lady Bracknell s marriage was one of the marriages that was clearly for business and not for love. Wilde shows how Lady Bracknell has no emotions for Lord Bracknell; she doesn t even really care about him but only uses him to increase her own social standing. • 39. The Lincoln Electric Company Essay The Lincoln Electric Company was founded in 1895 by John C. Lincoln, who then partnered with his younger brother James in 1907. The focus of the company originally was manufacturing electric motors, which then expanded to include battery chargers and in the early 1900 s to portable welding machines. (Lincoln Electric, 2016) The company was founded originally on a construct of Christian values, which may have played a role in creating the dominant culture of the corporation. (Sharplin) This paper presents an evaluative analysis of the business case study presented by Arthur Sharplin, with a focus on determining the overall corporate culture of Lincoln Electric categorically. John and James Lincoln professed to be devout Christians and embodied their faith in their treatment of their employees early on in the company. While a clear hierarchy and protection of management control was evident in their organizational structure, they ensured that employees had regular access to the management team both formally and informally. Management roles may have been protected and controlled but they were seen strictly as tasks to perform just as every other employee was assigned their tasks. In this respect the workplace was and remains designed strictly around function, no perks exist for management that do not exist for every employee. (Sharplin) This example points to the importance of a people oriented culture in the workplace and is almost egalitarian in nature. (Flat World Knowledge, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike many of the more populated areas, rural areas are home to small communities that exist over a vast amount of land. It has become increasingly necessary to implement new methods of revitalizing the economies of ruralareas in order to create a more equally profitable nation. There are many historical landmarks, key events and persons of interest all over the United States and that appeal only appreciates over time. Many rural areas are beginning to capitalize on the industry that seems to bring the most unbridle profit, tourism. Rural tourism is inclusive of many experiences that take place in a rural setting from eco tourism to ethno tourism. There are many misconceptions that exist about the benefits of rural tourism and the criticisms most often point towards the disruption of the existing community. Yet the implementation of a successful rural tourism industry has proved beneficial according to several studies conducted in the U.S. For instance, according to the Economic Research Service Rural tourism and recreational development results in lower local poverty rates and improvements in other social conditions, such as local educational attainment and health (measured by mortality ... Hyde, Jr. Professor Paul Richardson July 31, 2016 The extent to which Wooden s pyramid of success fits today s business environment Touching on some key tenets of his pyramid of success, he provides what is ideal, what if followed would lead to great success. The pyramid ideals don t really aptly fit in today s business environment. Most of the times, the flag is usually highly held up by the leader, a C.E.O or the managing director of an organization. The staff usually does not follow through with these aspirations. Workers are not enthusiastic about their job roles; they are there because they needed a job. They thus do not care about being their very best in what they do. Leaders also have no time to make the staff work as a team; to some leadership is not a calling. It is something they have to do to earn a living which is a really pitiful situation. However, top management in most institutions exhibit key alertness especially those in political campaigns or competitive parties. For example currently, in the US, the battle between Trump and Hillary is quite stiff. The men and women behind them exhibit great initiative, alertness and somewhat self control. Teasdale s poem states the theory that if humankind were to disintegrate, it would hardly be remembered, let alone missed. • 48. The Ship Poem Within The Ship Starting, there are three notable instances of repetition. For one, the word ship occurs three times (including in the title). Given that ships are the topic of interest in the poem, this instance of repetition has the basic effect of bringing the locus of the text back to the title, or central theme. The second example can be observed in the second and third lines, where the word sails is followed by moonsails, a made up compound version of the former word. Using the same word twice, and in this case, by adding on and modifying its second appearance, the reader is likely to acquire a clear picture of the scene that Whitman lays out in the poem. Emphasizing the image of the ships sails by preceding the words with diction such as all and even attributes the sails to a sense of abundance or freedom. The third instance of repetition occurs in line four, where she speeds she speeds is used to describe the motions that the ship is making. Whereas it would be considered grammatically correct to include a comma after the first mention of she speeds, leaving it out better reflects the content of the poem: she speeds she speeds gives the impression of a ship slicing through the water quickly. In many cases, using the same word twice in a row takes away from a text s message, but in The Ship Starting, this repetition instead works in Whitman s favor by supporting the visual imagery he seeks to create. This was a very peaceful march that was caused by the Voting Rights Movement for African Americans in Selma. In Selma, African Americans made up more than half the population, but only a mere two percent were actual registered voters. Discrimination and intimidation tactics aimed at African American kept them from registering and voting. The demonstrators marched to demand fairness in voter registration. With over half the population of Selma being African American there is no reason or excuse besides ignorance for why only two percent had the right to vote. To give sort of a background to leading up to the march, in 1963 a group of community activists formed the Dallas County Improvement Association Dallas County being the actual county that Selma is in. • 52. Literary Analysis Of The Widow s Lamnt In Springtime William Carlos Williams was from Rutherford, New Jersey, born in 1883. By trade, he was both a doctor and writer. Williams published poetry, novels, and essays in small magazines. Williams started as an imagist movement poet, which emphasized simplicity, clarity of expression, and precision through the use of exacting visual images (poets.org). He later began to write more about the life of everyday people. His poem, The Widow s Lament in Springtime follows this writing style. The poem The Widow s Lament in Springtime is a poem about a women who has lost her husband of thirty five years. Williams writes in the voice of a grieving woman instead of in his own voice. Now that her husband has died, the widow cannot find joy in her yard that she used to love. The widow may even be considering suicide. Williams, writing in free verse, writes a metaphor comparing the grief of a widow to her blooming yard in the springtime setting a tone of great sadness for the widow. The title itself gives us important clues about this poem. From the beginning before even reading the first line of the poem, we know that it will be a sad story. The widow being someone who has experienced a loss and lament is a word used for passionate grief and sorrow. Springtime is a time of growth and rebirth, the affirming of new life. Williams title may lead us to believe that the widow is in the early stages of life without her husband and the early stages of grief. This may be her first spring without her husband. She is exploring the overwhelming feelings of grief over losing her husband, comparing her grief to the new life or blooming of her yard. The widow begins by telling us Sorrow is my own yard (Reed). She, the widow is comparing the sorrow and grief that she feels with her yard. She takes ownership of her pain in the phrase my own . Springtime is usually a time of renewal and growth, but for the widow it is a time of sorrow and pain, deep sadness because her husband is not there with her this year. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesar, Brutus and his conspirators murder Caesar and convince the people of Rome that it was a justified act. Mark Antony, a friend of Caesar, seeks justice for his dear friend. In his funeral speech Antony uses rhetorical strategies to persuade the Romans that Caesar s death was unjustified. Through persuasion, Antony uses the strategies: rhetorical questions, verbal irony and the appeal of pathos to sway the Romans to believe that Caesar s murder was unjust.
