the departments of Anthropology, Sociology and Religious Studies. Responsible for making sure that
department business is carried out efficiently and in-line with university and college policies. Work
closely with department chairs, faculty and administrative staff on pre- and post-award management,
as well as day-to-day operations such as approving travel reports, check requests and personnel
requests. Assist faculty with cash-advance requests and travel reports for foreign field work, serving

creation and submission of monthly reports to various agencies. Work with the Director, faculty and
project managers to resolve budgeting questions, particularly with respect to short and long-term

liability and expense entries, and seven million in payroll suspense entries. Wrote and processed
queries from both the HR PeopleSoft database and University accounting system, in addition to
electronically uploading journal entries. This level of systems interaction required a high level of
security access across platforms.
Regularly worked with the Office of Financial Affairs, Medical Center Finance, Contract and Grant
Accounting, Management Information Systems, Internal Audit, and within HR to research and solve
general payroll and payroll-related ledger problems, requiring a thorough knowledge of the payroll
system and its relationship to the GL. Assisted in the testing of ledger-related enhancements to the
payroll system.
Worked closely with Management Information Systems in the design and testing of WALDO, the
University’s website application for access to labor information, as well as ePac, the University’s
website application for viewing and changing employee effort distribution. Reconciled withholding
and FICA taxes (approximately 92 million dollars per year) in preparation for processing W-2s, in
addition to inputting manual earnings and tax adjustments to employee data. Processed all W-2C
disbursals and answered taxable benefit questions from faculty and staff. Performed data entry for
nonresident alien tax setup to ensure compliance with IRS regulations, and to make sure that tax
treaties were honored. Worked with nonresidents on a limited basis regarding tax questions and
correcting tax setup errors.
Assisted departments and individual employees by performing research and answering a wide range
of HR-related questions, requiring a broad knowledge of University payroll and benefits policies,
fringe benefits, and various tax rules. This included the handling of sometimes sensitive prior-year
overpayment issues, which required a basic knowledge of tax regulations and an ability to
communicate effectively with a diverse range of employees and faculty in person and in writing.
