The Dangers of Building Your Audience On Social Media PlatformsGreg Shuey
In my presentation for the Utah Business Expo, I cover the dangers of building your audience on social media platforms (rented land) and how to move them off into an owned community.
David Martin, VP Marketing & Content of the Electronic Retailing Association, Suzanne Carawan, CMO of HighRoad Solution and the Event Alley Show presented an interactive session at the American Society of Association Executive's 2014 Springtime education conference & exposition. In a world of overwhelming amounts of data flying at us daily, it's key for non-profit marketers to understand how to sort through the mountain of information out there and take actions on email, social and web for our organizations.
Our hero's journey:
- Start what with really matters, goals or actions we are asking supporters to take on behalf of our non-profits.
- Communicate how our marketing and communications work is adding value to those organizational goals and ultimately mission.
- Focus on some key data points to build...
- A super dashboard that will provide a snap shot of how we are making progress.
Ultimately, We should strive to measure these efforts as consistently as possible to make better choices with our marketing and communications efforts.

Social Signals: How to Use the Most Important Convergence of Search and SocialJD Rucker
As Google and Bing continue to integrate social media into their search ranking algorithms, the need for dealers to get their Google +1s, Facebook Likes, and Retweets up is growing tremendously.
Finally, the ability to kill two birds with one stone is a reality as dealers can benefit their website rankings, traffic, and social relevance with the same actions and by posting the same content.
The merging of the two disciplines is expanding. In this webinar, JD Rucker goes well-beyond the basics and shows dealers some of the techniques and strategies they can use to make their websites more sharable. Now that “sharability” is so important for both search and social, this truly is a webinar that no dealer can afford to miss.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Why You Should Replace Windows 11 with Nitrux Linux 3.5.0 for enhanced perfor...SOFTTECHHUB
The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. For decades, Microsoft's Windows has dominated the market, offering a familiar and widely adopted platform for personal and professional use. However, as technological advancements continue to push the boundaries of innovation, alternative operating systems have emerged, challenging the status quo and offering users a fresh perspective on computing.
One such alternative that has garnered significant attention and acclaim is Nitrux Linux 3.5.0, a sleek, powerful, and user-friendly Linux distribution that promises to redefine the way we interact with our devices. With its focus on performance, security, and customization, Nitrux Linux presents a compelling case for those seeking to break free from the constraints of proprietary software and embrace the freedom and flexibility of open-source computing.
Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Zach and Cindy both actively use online dating and we’ve both had similar pain points. We wanted to see what others felt so we interviewed and surveyed various people and asked them if they could change dating what would they change, and these were some of the responses we got.
As we can see there is a repeating theme of wanting more open communication
Which leads us to the problem: There is poor communication in dating and this causes ghosting, lack of closure and insufficient feedback
To validate that this was a problem, we tried various methods including surveys, using social media, engaging people via dating apps and guerrilla marketing.
For the survey we wanted to understand dating pain points regarding closure and feedback so we placed a link to the survey on Reddit and received over 280 respondents primarily
from the 18-30 year old, heterosexual demographic
And from all over the country and world (i.e. Toronto, Australia, Amsterdam, UK, Singapore)
Over 82% of people would want to know why someone was not interested in them
Over 70% would want to know the truth
And from this survey, 56 people provided emails for additional information and to beta test
We then we used Tinder and OKC to individually reach out to users. We engaged 100 Tinder users and 50 OKC users to ask them about their thoughts on ghosting and feedback. 80% of these users responded.
We also used social media such as Facebook and Instagram to gauge interest.
Next we created a landing page on Squarespace with a short description of the problem to gauge and track interest and followed the analytics. In total, we have had nearly 300 visitors.
Lastly, to advertise our landing page and further validate the problem we used guerrilla marketing by
handing out flyers personally in the Embarcadero and near GA
posting flyers surrounding GA with our web page and email address
From this we received emails from a tech reporter at the SF Chronicle and a reporter of PhillyVoice expressing their interest

WHAT IS BEIGE NOTES
We'll ask the hard questions about your date so you don't have to. With these answers you will better understand your date's motives, receive feedback, learn tips for future dates and gain closure.
HOW DO WE DO THIS.
1. We provide you & your date with questions
2. You both answer the questions.
3. when we've heard from both sides, we’ll share answers
To validate the solution, we used various methods including dog fooding, wizard of ozing, making a clickable prototype and testing out our web app by offering starbucks gift cards to people on the street
Cindy reached out and experimented with her own dates and was able to get 25% of her dates to fill out reviews on her.
Of these people, she then reached out to do a follow up interview. One of her dates participated and said that he was curious to learn more about the app.
Another date which did not go well asked if we needed help.
We built a landing page on square space and created the surveys on Typeform. We then emailed the ~60 people from our Reddit surveyed who asked for additional information to see who would be willing to participate.
2 couples successfully completed the feedback loop - one of these couples was Anna & Deryk
Here is a snapshot of their answers to one of the questions
From our perspective we really enjoyed their sweet answers

1) Tinder integration - we built clickable prototype for this but we can target dating apps to integrate this feature into them
2) Dating Coach/ Mediator - for couples in relationships and giving advice when someone doesn’t respond
3) Build out a dating app where users are required to give feedback on dates
4) Build out platform for people to browse stories and reach out to people whose stories they like for a date
