Beaconhouse Sargodha tackled the problem of land pollution, particularly the irresponsibility with which people dispose of garbage. Equipped with gloves and scrapes, the students swept many of the streets in full view of the residents to demonstrate that on a self-help basis, everyone could keep their neighbourhoods clean. Five garbage cans were also left in various locations as a reminder and flyers were distributed to spread the message of environmental responsibility.

I. FEEL:
It’s no doubt one of the most common problems
in our society. Surprisingly the solution is just as
easy. The predicament of ill disposed garbage is
2. seen everywhere. Such sights leave you
wondering what is so difficult in the Holy
Prophet Mohammed P.B.U.H ‘s saying,
“Cleanliness is half of the faith”. If we analyse
this hadith it is telling us very clearly that we
should clean ourselves, our houses and area
around it neat and clean. If we only take care of
area in front of our own house and everyone
does the same the whole colony can be clean. So
the solution is very easy to implement.
2. IMAGINE
Hence to tackle this dilemma our team of five
students(age 12-13) from VIII Class, along with
two teachers visited the area of Sohni pura in
Sargodha, notorious for its garbage dumps. The
open garbage littered the streets and was seen
lying around the garbage dumps. There we
talked to the local residents and tried to illicit
their views. Majority of the people thought that
the government should take care of this problem
and it is not their duty to do so.
3. DO
Then for the next four days, armed with gloves
and scrapers our young cleaners literally swept
many of the streets in view of the residents to
3. demonstrate that on self help basis we can clean
the streets ourselves. Along with clean streets
we left them a gift of 5 garbage cans. The
students also gave lectures on benefits of
remaining clean and insisted that the people
carry on the task they so easily did, instead of
waiting for deliverance from the government.
They also distributed fliers among the residents
invoking them to rethink their ways for sake of
their coming generation and keep the locality
clean.
4. FEEL Why can’t we keep our own
lanes/colonies clean? Isn’t it
simple to merely dispose off
the household garbage in
proper disposal bags? Is the
only way to remove garbage
from the house, is to dump it
outside the door? Are our own
children safe in such
unhygienic environment?
5. We visited the area of
Sohnipura, Sargodha and talked
to the residents. They had an
erroneous believe that
government is responsible to
take the garbage once it is out of
their doors. So we decided to
sweep the streets and install
garbage bins at various points.

6. Students swept few of the
streets, installed garbage
bins at various points, gave
lectures to the resident,
went door-to-door inorder
to raise awareness about
cleanliness.
