BBFC Post
BBFC simply stands for British Board of Film Classification, and what they do is they classify
films in the UK by age. But before they classify it into an age group they have guidelines to
think and refer back to, they watch the movie and think about things like:
 Violence –
It could be mature violence with a lot of blood or it could just be cartoon violence.
 Sex
 Language –
The movie could contain words not suitable for an age range not to hear such as
swear words.
 Nudity –
It could be a childish movie with a random child partially naked for a comedy or it
could be a serious raping scene.
 Mature themes –
This would be scenes in which depending on the age rating couldn’t watch, for
example sex scenes or love scenes such as kissing or touching.
 Horror –
The movie could contain a bit too much gruesome horror for a specific age range to
handle.
 Discrimination
Once they’ve done that they can then come to a conclusion on what to classify the movie as.
My film opening, if I were to classify it by referring to the things above would fall under a
12 rating. It would be a 12 rating simply because it doesn’t contain any sex, nudity or
mature themes. There is no harsh language and there are barely any horror scenes within
the opening. There is one violent scene but it’s not that harsh, it’s only a child falling to the
ground because someone budged him.
Violence Very little
Language Moderate
Sex/Nudity None
Themes Action/Conflict.
