4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Love Me Not
Audience.
Our film genre was psychological thriller, the research consisted of watching
trailers, to keep up with the generic conventions.
We found that many psychological thrillers were targeted towards people age
15+ but some also 18+ So we decided on targeting our film at 15+
As our film didn’t include any real explicit content, our film was largely based
on violence and betrayal etc. These themes are typical in a psychological
thriller.
Why?
We wanted males and females of our age and older to enjoy our film.
Our film would contain aspects of psychological problems, (violence, death,
etc) without including explicit content. This would break the rules and
conventions of a film rated 15. Therefore people at the age of 15+ would be
more interested in what is being shown.
Why did we choose the
‘Thriller’ genre?
The thriller genre is wildly popular, especially amongst the teenage generation.
Thriller genre provides;
Thrills
It keeps the audience at ‘the edge of their seats’ as the plot builds towards a climax
The main character(s) is placed in a menacing situation. By this time the audience would have
developed an understanding of the character(s)
Thriller is also designed to elicit tension and suspense, taking the viewer through agony and fear.
The themes of thrillers frequently include; Terrorism, political conspiracy, pursuit, or romantic triangles
leading to murder.
15 Certificate
GuidelinesDiscrimination: No endorsement of discriminatory language or behavior will be present in the film.
Drugs: In the film drugs are permitted to be viewed but in no way must they be promoted to the audience or make the audience
want to experience the taking of these drugs. Also it’s unlikely to be acceptable to show dangerous to show dangerous substances
that are accessible to the audience being used incorrectly, for example mis-use of aerosols or solvents.
Horror: The audience are allowed to see strong threat and menace, however if carried out in a sexualised or sadistic way.
Imitable Behaviour: Any viewings of behaviour dangerous to the character (suicide, self-harm) are not allowed to be
shown in great detail to promote ideas to the audience of this behaviour.
Language: Strong language is acceptable to be used frequently, (e.g. ‘Fuck’) however the strongest terms (e.g. ‘cunt’ are only
permitted to use if it fits the context and can be justified by this. However when the use of strong language is repeated in an
aggressive way it’s unlikely to be acceptable for this certification.
Nudity: Without strong detail nudity is permitted if used in sexual context, more so there are no constraints in non-sexual or
educational context regarding nudity.
Sex: Without strong detail sexual activity is permitted to be portrayed; strong verbal references to sexual behaviour are also
allowed. However highly strong references are again unlikely to be permitted unless they can be justified by the context of the film.
More so work that is solely purposeful for sexual or stimulation are again unlikely to be acceptable.
Theme: There are no themes that are not allowed as long as provided with appropriate treatment for 15 year olds.
Violence: No infliction of pain or injury are allowed or to be dwelled on when strong violence is used. Strong gory images and
strong sadistic or sexualised violence are unlikely o be acceptable. Detailed verbal references to sexual violence are allowed but it
must be discreet and be highly justified by the context.
