BART Shooting Research Paper
Johannes Mehserle unintentionally shot and killed Oscar Grant. He was on duty as a train officer for BART transportation and was on alert for
those who had celebrated New Year's Eve. The shooting occurred at the Fruitvale train station on January 1st, 2009. At the station, a fight broke out
in one of the trains and when the train stopped the fight started again outside of the train at one of the stops. While they were fighting on the train
the BART officers were called. The officers came and arrested everyone that was in the fight. A guy named Oscar Grant was in the fight and was
also arrested (Meyer). While Grant was being arrested by Officer Mehserle, he resisted the officer's attempts. Since Grant was resisting he was
pushed onto the ground on his stomach to be handcuffed. Johannes Mehserle was having trouble handcuffing Grant so the other BART officers
helped him. When Grant was on the ground Mehserle was going to tase him since he would not stop resisting. When Mehserle thought he pulled out
his TASER, he instead pulled out his gun. Mehserle accidentally shot Grant with his gun since he thought he pulled out his TASER (Bulwa).
Mehserle used his gun instead of his TASER on accident. There could be many reasons as to why he thought he pulled out his TASER instead of his
gun. One reason is because there are days when officers change their holsters and the items that are in their holsters. One day the TASER could be on
one side and the next day it could be on the other

Bart Station Analysis
As I walked through Downtown Berkeley, I decided to sit near the Bart Station. I noticed that everyone around me had somewhere to go because it
felt like everyone was in a rush. For example, I noticed that people were jaywalking the streets. As I sat down, I noticed that there were other
students from my class that sat down near me as well. In addition, I also noticed Tak was sitting behind me, eating his sandwich. As I was sitting
down and looked at those who were walking, I realized that it was mostly caucasians that were passing by, many dressed well, some were even
wearing suits. Most of the people that walked by were students and adults and some of them were in groups and some walked by themselves.
Everyone looked liked they had somewhere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I look around me, I noticed the buildings that surrounded me. There was a lot of grey buildings and the floor just consisted of bricks. However,
there is a feeling of togetherness even though someone has somewhere to go or there are homeless people that are laughing with others. Often,
when my mom drops me off and we pass by the homeless, she mentions that they look like they're having the times of their lives with their
instruments and people around them on Telegraph. She has a good point. Because I live extremely close to Downtown Berkeley, I see familiar
faces for the past two years and I wonder how they do it, how they live, and I imagine what they must go through everyday. However, my thoughts
got interrupted when there was a group of teenagers that walked passed me and they were screaming at each other with their hip hop music played
up extremely high. I was a bit annoyed, but I got over it within seconds. I think everyone goes through that angry teenage stage. As I watched them
walk away in anger, I noticed someone was wearing a bright yellow shirt and I assume that it's a security guard, making sure that there are no trouble is

The Simpsons ' Is There Anything They Can 't Do?
"Donuts. Is there anything they can't do?" That is just one of the many thought–provoking questions asked by Homer Simpson on the world famous TV
show, the Simpsons. A very basic summary of this show, as said by therichest.com, is that it is set in the fictional town of Springfield, and focuses of
different aspects of human condition, such as American culture, television, and society. While it may seem simple, there are a lot of components that
go into the making of this show, and the final product. To help everybody body get a better understanding of this show, I will first talk about howthe
Simpsons came to be a show, secondly, I will talk about the characters, and thirdly, I will talk about the comedic aspects of it.
First, I'm going to talk about how this show started out and it's essential components. Matt Groening is the primary creator of the show, and his
Co–Creator Sam Smith are the two people behind a lot of the starting ideas of the Simpsons. Matt Groening wanted a show that is able to talk about
heavy subjects in a light situation, and that is exactly what he, with the help of many others, has done. His inspiration behind this show was for it to
have the Simpson family be based off of his own. As the show developed, the characters did as well, and each character became to be less and less like
his real family.
At the beginning of every episode, the same theme song is played (though it is sometimes altered), and FactSlides.com says that it took Danny Elfman

Lily Bart Artistic Nature
In Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth, Lily Bart is characterized by her artistic nature. She is not only an artist, but a work of art. Lily uses her artistic
temperament to enhance her beauty and attract potential suitors. Unfortunately, this use of Lily's artistic nature is never wholly satisfying. She sees
beauty as her ticket into high society – but it is what eventually causes her fall from grace as it causes men to objectify her and women to be jealous of
her. Lily is an artist with an eye for beauty. Her pleasure in "tones and textures" is "one of her inmost susceptibilities"(10). Ever since she was a
young lady, Lily has had artistic tendencies. When she was a girl in her parents' home, Lily suggested that they have fresh lilies at... Show more content

Lily is desperately holding onto her place in society when she goes on a cruise with the Dorsets. She is working hard to maintain her looks. As Mrs.
Fisher says, "[Lily] looks ten years younger – I never saw her so handsome"(146). Mrs. Fisher also remarks on how the Crown Princess is very partial
to Lily's good looks and charm. However, her skill at the art of beauty ruins her life because it causes men to be aggressive and women to be
jealous. This ignites scandalous rumors of Lily having affairs. The most fatal of these rumors is started by Bertha Dorset when she accuses Lily of
having an affair with George Dorset. This is a devastating blow for Lily – her whole reputation is ruined. These rumors are believable because, if given
the chance, George would love to have an affair with Lily. In fact, Bertha wanted Lily to join the Dorsets on their cruise because she knew how
attracted George was to Lily and she needed a distraction from her own affair with Ned Silverton. But once Bertha's affair was unmasked, Lily was
no longer considered useful, and therefore disposed of. According to Louis Auchincloss, "Lily's beauty is the light in which each of her different
groups would like to shine, but when they find that it illuminates their ugliness they want to put it out." Once Bertha unleashes her jealousy
(coupled with her influence and money) on Lily, no amount of artistry can help Lily regain her footing in society. As she says to Seldon, "What can
one do when one finds that one only fits into one hole? One must get back to it or be thrown into the rubbish heap"(240) Lily cannot "get back to it"
because Bertha's unconquerable social influence has blocked her out of high society for good. Lily is cast out and forced to live as part of the
working class . Unfortunately, her skill set is non–transferable and she performs her jobs poorly. All her life she has been trained for a single job–

Grandpa Simpson's The Front
Bart and Lisa become bored with the scripts hence they decide to write own episodes of "The Front". The aspect of boredom comes about due to
rejection of some of their scripts. In the episode, it is evident that Homer did not complete his high school and has a science course, which he is
required to take. As Bart and Lisa seem to be discouraged by the bad episodes brought forth in "Itchy and Scratchy", they start to write the episodes
under the name of Grandpa Simpson. Ideally, this assignment aims at providing an in–depth view of the various elements and techniques, which the
author uses to enable the viewers grasp whatever the series encompasses. Some of the elements used comprise of the author's use of binarisms, humor,

The character that is stereotyped is known as Apu. For long periods, the viewers and writers did not know that he was not a real figure but rather a
stereotyped character. His main role is to provoke a laugh from the jokes. Considerately, people argue that the reason why it was difficult to identify
the character as figurative or not is because all the details are filtered using a white lens. The actor whose voice is used to represent that of Apu is also
a white man and a large part of the writers of "The Simpsons" that depicts a significant contribution to "The Front" episode and comprises of the whites
hence that would be another reason for the constraints in identification of the stereotyped character. In essence, the voice is an impression of a white
guy who seems to make fun of a father (Singh, 2014). The use of Apu as a stereotype expresses the manner in which two different cultures can come
together and engage in particular processes. Ideally, this is seen in the sense that the character is an Indian having descendent from the southern region
of Asia. Through this, it would also be easy to depict the varying cultural practices and experiences across different communities. Therefore, the
problems that affect them within the society would be established

Bart Ehrman's Definition Of Myth
Bart Ehrman believes the chapter of Genesis is a myth. The term myth has many different definitions though so let's see what he meant when he said
myth. Ehrman's definition of a myth is, "a story about God or gods and their activities, which tries to make sense of the world and our place in it", In
Ehrman's eyes, the book of Genesis (in this case chapters 1–11) is just a story, no more real than the story of Cinderella. Looking at McCutcheon's list
of different definitions of the word myth, I find that Ehrman's definition best fits with 'Pre–scientific explanations of natural phenomena' which
basically says that myths are people trying to explain what they observe around them, their environment. Ehrman believes that creation is a myth,

A trickster is a character that survives by wits and skill. They are also very crafty (Mythology in Literary Culture). Tricksters are everywhere. You
never know when they are going to strike. They could do it to make things better or worse. They impact a story in a good way or a bad way but
regardless they help create the conflict of the story. There are famous ones and there are normal ones. In this case there are three big tricksters from
Greek mythology, Norse mythology, and modern day characters in TV shows. The Greek God Hermes, the Norse God Loki, and the funny character
Bart Simpson from the Simpsons all share the qualities and characteristics of being a trickster.

Bart is a special character, who confuses people to make them look stupid. He is a trickster day in and day out committing errors and having fun
while doing so. Additionally, he never stops which means that there is trouble all the time in the Simpsons' neighborhood. One instance in which he
displayed his trickery was when he switched papers with this kid named Martin and everyone thought that he was super smart and intelligent. He then
went to a top level school and had a hard time so he got caught (Milthorpe). Bart tricks people in many different ways, physically, mentally and even
without people realizing that the jokes on them. Another example of him displaying trickery was when "Bart made a tee–shirt saying "down with
homework." He got the idea from mad magazine. This stunt lead to the whole school having to wear uniforms that took the life out of everyone
until the gray got washed away and the uniforms turned colorful" (Milthorpe). Bart uses artistry and imagination from a magazine to create a stylish
outfit for everyone to wear. Bart is one of those tricksters that mostly commits trickery for the bad of others. Whatever Bart does, he always ends up
destroying something and/or ruining someone's day or even their life. He is a much different trickster than Hermes and Loki in that he is more of a
destroyer trickster than a transgressor or a hero type of trickster. Hermes and Loki however, sometimes trick for the good making them have some

The D-Bart Company Case
Introduction D–Bart Industries is an organization in that manufacturing industry that fabricates precision parts for medical equipment and airplane
parts. This newly formed firm was created from the merger of two previous competitors, Davis Manufacturing and Bartlund Technologies. Moreover,
these organizations were managed significantly different: Erik Bartlund greatly empowered his employees and fostered a climate of innovation and
product development, while Ted Davis relied on a stringent hierarchy of command and control to create quality products. Also, Davis industries were
unionized, while Bartlund remained nonunion, a structure that was carried over to D–Bart. After the merger, the large company initially consisted of
nine total geographically separated locations; therefore, to scale back, management decided to close the San Jose plant and move the majority of
employees to San Francisco location. In order to facilitate the closing, the San Jose division manager, Karen Howell decided to let go roughly 20% of
the employees. Consequentially, she determined to let go 20% from each department by using the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The negative aspect of voluntary separation is the company cannot choose who leaves, meaning D–Bart can lose productive employees and valuable
knowledge. Performance appraisals are one of the best methods to avoid this negative affect (Gomez–Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2016), but since these
are not a valid option, it is a risk the company must take. Regardless, the company can attempt to limit the loss of valuable employees by offering and
monitoring the voluntary separations in a manner that prevents from employees with similar skills from leaving (Zatzick, Zhao, & Tingling, 2014).
For example, Karen could cap the amount of employee for voluntary separation at 20% from each

student leaders and advisors have been asked to serve as ambassadors and participate in getting the campus involved. In addition, all student affairs
professionals and professors are encouraged to discuss how this new initiative impacts campus; this will give them the opportunity to share ideas on

The Simpsons: Dysfunctional, Middle Class, American Family
The Simpsons
The smooth sound of the saxophone serenaded my ears as I sat on the luxurious seats of the lounge room awaiting the premiere of "The Simpsons."
From that moment, I not only wanted, but knew that I had to play the saxophone. "The Simpsons" is a depiction of a stereotypical, middle class,
American family. The characters which make up this dysfunctional yet hilariously amusing family are Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Although
at times the family as a whole can be perceived as foolish and outrageous, "The Simpsons" have one redeemable member who shines through with her
witty personality and intellectual qualities; and that is the one and only Miss Lisa Simpson. Although, I personally do not possess these brainy
qualities like Lisa, there is one important part of Lisa's life that I too share in common and that is her passion for music and more specifically the
saxophone. Her ambition for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Matt Groening's intentions when creating this cartoon were not accidental but intentional as he created underlying themes and messages which
capture the audience's attention unnoticeably. "The Simpsons" not only have a close family unit but within their family there is freedom to express
their individuality. Obviously, Lisa's choice is the saxophone but even then she chooses not to stick to what is expected. This is evident in the theme
song to "The Simpsons" where Lisa is sitting in band formation as the orchestra plays in unison under the conductors' direction. From there Lisa
chooses to become her own and express her idiosyncrasy of independence as she begins her jazz solo. Lisa has and will always be known as the
nerdy, independent, opinionated and very talented young girl but the reasoning behind it is because she chooses to go against what society considers
right by embracing her own qualities that she herself deems

Character Analysis Of Bart Simpson
There is fiction of all forms, from movies, books, television shows, anything you can think of. With these things come fictional characters in which
sometimes we can get attached to and feel that we can easily relate to them in some many levels. As a kid growing up my favorite fictional things were
the television shows and movies. Some shows for example where Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, etc., and as for movies I
really enjoyed watching Spider–Man movies, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc. It was easy to find a character in which I could personally relate
too. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Bart Simpson from "The Simpsons" for getting himself into trouble but also
mainly because he is a fast learner, Goofy for his funny charismatic personality, and Naruto for his determination of never giving up and proving to
people what he is capable of doing.
Firstly I would like to talk about how I think Goofy and I are similar. The "A Goofy Movie" was a movie in which Goofy and his son go on a vacation
for the summer. The film has many scenes where Goofy obviously means well but you see he's funny personality come out in the film as well as
his amiable cluelessness. A particular scene where Goofy shows his characteristics is in the scene where him and Max go to a concert but Goofy
can not seem to find Max. As Goofy is looking for Max, he gets lost and gets himself to go on stage with the singer and as he's there Goofy being

Impulsivity Using BART Tasks
Abstract. This study was done to test two hypotheses'. The first being Different groups of intensities of impulsivity (Barratt's Impulsiveness Scale
scores) will increase along with the Balloon Analogue risk task (BART) scores. The second hypothesis being by the different scales of the BIS we
will investigate the group most correlated with the BART scores. 45psychology students took part. The results indicated that with scores of risk–taking
increasing, impulsivity would also increase and that the three different groups correlated with the BART scores.
Introduction. Lejuez et al. (2002). was evaluating the test that measures risk–taking, the Balloon Analogue risk task (BART). They also looked at it in
relation to self–measure reporting and real–world behaviours. Risk–taking involves behaviour that involves some danger or harm, where a reward may

Whether you love them, or hate them, The Simpsons a key piece to young adulthood in many homes around the world. From depicting things such as
struggling with disorders, problems with the boss, or average family life, most North American families are able to relate to the The Simpsons and that

Bashir is a muslim. After learning this, Marge is proud of Bart for meeting new people and stepping outside a comfort zone to meet and share new
experiences. Homer's reaction is quite the opposite. Once word gets out that Homer's son has befriended a muslim, Homer's friends begin to spit
stereotypes in Homer's face about muslims and the culture behind Islam. After long, persuasive conversations, half–witted Homer decides to invite
Bashir and his family to a dinner in an attempt to Assimilate them to American culture, this includes offering them Pork Back Ribs and a large

Telling our story won 't be easy. I 've got two proposals, one for $1.5 million which should achieve the reach and frequency needed for re–establishing

The Simpson Reflection
If we look at Season 12 episode 9 – "Homr", Homer becomes inspired by the animation convention that's in town. Generating his first impulse by
removing all his life savings from his joint account with Marge to invest in the company without any knowledge of the stock market other than his
own perception of the product. Even as the teller informs Homer that he would need to have his wife sign, he goes behind a plant to impersonate
Marge to sign and Lisa to get some candy. He even tries to leave after accepting the candy without getting the money that he went in for. After losing
his investment he decides to become a medical guinea pig to get some extra cash, this lead to the discovery of a childhood crayon being lodge in his
brain. This becomes one of the components of what has made Homer so asinine, yet after removing the crayon he is left with a high–level IQ but is
unable to cope with the world of low intelligence. He does recognize that his intelligence creates a strong bond with Lisa so he writes her a letter
before Moe puts another crayon in his brain. In season 9 episode 17 – "Lisa the Simpson", we see the reversed of Homer in which Lisa is now trying
to cope with being unintelligent after she is left unable to resolve a puzzled that everyone but her could do in seconds. Grandpa Simpson explains how

Fiction And Fact Fiction : The Inmulations Of Fact Fiction
Fiction is the classification for any setting or story that is derived from imagination in other words, not based strictly on history. Fact Fiction can be
expressed in a variety of formats, including writings, performances, films, television programs, animations, video games, and role–playing games.
Psychology researchers have long ignored fiction literature because its only role seems to be entertainment, with no compatible connection validity. We
argue that literary narratives have a more important purpose. Literary narratives offer simulations of the social world via abstraction, compression, and
simplification. This simulation facilitates the communication and understanding of social information and makes it more compelling, achieving a
form of learning through experience. Participating in the simulative experiences of fiction literature can facilitate the understanding of others who
are different from us and can argue our capacity for social inference and empathy. The stereotype is a fixed but widely held and oversimplified idea
or image of a given person or thing. A good example of the cultural stereotype is that of an assumption that all Americans are lazy, obese and silly is
portrayed by Homer Simpson in the show. In a given community stereotype can bring about bullying of people and living lives driven by hate and
vengeance. In the show other kids bully Bart because they see him different from them so his sister Lisa defends him. Lisa helps Bart from bullies

Grandpa Simpson explains how
it is the Simpsons gene that makes them dumb which happens around Lisa's age. Grandpa Simpson shows the decline in both Homer and Bart's
academic years. This deterioration

Television Shows A Influence On Children
TV shows represent a great influence in children because they learn how to behave by imitating what they watch on TV. By watching TV, children
get the idea of how gender roles are structured in society, and they think that is the proper way to classify men and women. Since a young age,
children create their own perspective about gender roles and they grow up following the same example they learned when they were little. TV shows
are a media that society uses to teach people the differences on gender roles and to keep the traditional point of view that society has been creating
through the time; TV shows plays an important tool in the construction of gender. Women and men have always been portrayed in society in a
different way; generally, men are considered to be better than women. Women are expected to have roles that are according to the common stereotypes
that have been established in society; women's proper place is at home to take care of the family. The Simpsons deals with common stereotypes about
nuclear family and women roles which have always been present in American culture; the show represents and challenges the ideologies about gender
roles and patriarchy because sometimes, the show is contradictory since it represents women as the typical housewife, and other times, women are
represented as taking a new role because they begin to work outside of the house. Although The Simpsons portrays ideologies of the modern nuclear
family and gender roles, it still

Bart Ticket Analysis
Buying a ticket from a Bart ticket dispenser is pretty difficult if one is not familiar with the ticket machine. It is a little different compared to other
ticket dispensers because it will not tell how much the rider should pay. There is a fare chart indicating the value of one and round trip fares. In
order to buy a ticket for first time rider, riders need to know how much the fare is, and then purchase a Bart ticket with the particular value which is
needed for the trip. And every time I was looking for how much I should pay from the chart, it takes me forever to figure out where I am going and
the value it needed for my trip because the words are very tiny and super intensive. There were so many times that seniors asked me for help, because

The Simpsons: Middle Class Socio-Economic Family
Question #1: The opening scene is a direct representation for what the Simpsons' family signifies throughout this episode: a middle class
socio–economic family. The beginning of the show depicts a middle class, rural community that has built around a nuclear power plant in Springfield,
Illinois. The start of the show illustrates the basic character traits of the Simpsons' family that is needed for a viewer to understand the comedy
portrayed within the show. Bart, a middle school aged boy, is represented as a troubled, attitude filled student who dislikes school. This is seen when
he is directed to write, "I will not scream for ice cream," for detention, leading into Bart being a rebellious skateboarder on his way home. Homer is

Additionally, Marge is a rebellious and reckless driver by honking, almost hitting her own son and husband on her way home. Maggie, a funny and
an innocent baby, yet is an indirect trouble maker by mimicking others. Lisa, is a polar opposite of her brother by being involved with the school
band showing that she well interested in academics. The whole family rushes home to sit on their family couch to watch a television show, as a typical
middle class family would do.
Question #2–4: This episode, "Lisa Gets an A" is comical throughout the majority of the show. The beginning of the episode displays the family
going to Sunday brunch, which is situationally ironic when they go to a grocery store for free food. During this scene, Bart grabs a plate full of
fudge, but is immediately judged by the employee for coming every Sunday to take free food. This is a directly humorous scene when Bart says, "If

The Simpsons Television Show as a Pop Culture Icon Essay
The definition of the "typical" American family has changed considerably over time. Ever since the age of television dawned on American culture,
situation comedies have tried to portray the typical American family in an attempt to reach as many viewers as possible. In the 1950's, there was
"Leave It to Beaver" which represented a generic view of the American family during its time. There was a father whose responsibility was to
financially support the family and be a role model for his children. There was a mother whose job was that of a typical housewife, taking care of the
home and caring for the children. And there were the children who had no responsibilities, except to respect their parents and listen to their advice when

The show was all but ignored by the older viewing public, who discounted it as a trashy cartoon. The "consumption" (Delingpole) of the program and
its messages by the American public when the show first aired regularly was drastically different than what it is now and what the writers of the show
intended. On face value alone, "The Simpsons" is not much more than a cartoon about a middle–class family and their ridiculous escapades. But when
examined more closely and with a more objective eye ? "consumed" as the show?s writers would intend ? one can see that "The Simpsons" is truly a
comment on American society.
"The Simpsons" basis, a father, a mother, and three kids, is far from unusual. The "typical" American is a blue–collar worker not unlike the father,
Homer, who works a mindless job at the local nuclear power plant in the Simpsons' hometown of Springfield which is basically Anytown, USA.
Marge, the mother, is a fairly typical housewife besides her large blue beehive hairdo. Bart, is the rebellious older son; Lisa, the under–appreciated
middle child; and Maggie, the adorable baby. The Simpsons don't live in luxury, but they are a generally happy family that encounters the problems of
everyday, and not–so–everyday, life, something that millions can relate to. But there is something that sets "The Simpsons" apart from the

The Success of the Simpsons Essay
The Success of the Simpsons
The Improbable Long–Term Success of The Simpsons
When examining the history of modern prime–time television, there is a certain pattern that virtually every successful show inevitably falls into. After
a period of initial success, perhaps lasting three or four years, the writing on the show becomes stale by using the same format and same jokes over and
over. The viewing audience becomes bored, and eventually, the show fades into television oblivion. Or, as Jeff MacGregor states in The New York
Times, "Historically...(successful shows) collapse under the weight of their own complacency, hanging on for a few lifeless seasons while the producers
wait to cash out their millions and move to Maui." Based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The older portion of the viewers takes additional pleasure in recognizing the allusion to the famous horror film. Another simple example of multilevel
humor features Homer sitting on the couch, while another Homer walks past the outside window. Although it takes place in a matter of seconds, this
scene is one of countless silly but curiously sensational quirks that makes the show "a masterpiece of tiny, throw–away details that accumulate into a
worldview."
Because the producers of The Simpsons understand the current industry guidelines for humor and political correctness, they are able to create humor
by bluntly crossing these presumed socially acceptable boundaries, while still sending a positive message. One frequently addressed subject on the
show is religion, which is a normally sensitive issue on television. The Simpsons, however tackles religious thought head–on. In one episode, Homer
skips church on a particularly cold, snowy Sunday and has the best day of his life. After making his "patented, space–age, out–of–this world Moon
Waffles" (melted caramel and waffle batter wrapped around a stick of butter), he watches football on T.V. and, upon finding a penny on the ground,
asks aloud, "Could this be the best day of my life?" After visualizing, among other things, his wedding day,

Meet the Simpsons
Over time, the definition of what exactly "family" means has changed with time. Usually, what constitutes making up a family is relative
to a specific culture, but as always, there are exceptions to the rule. Ever since the golden age of television had sprung upon American culture, television
has tried to mimic the "ideal" American family through it's programming. Even as early as the 1950's, television producers made
programming that would represent what exactly the ideal American family was.
Take for example the show "Leave It to Beaver". While I am not going to go in detail about each character, I am going to summarize the

Also according to the consensus, the average married couple has approximately 2.6 children per household (U.S.
Consensus, Household Characteristics p.1). Since there cannot be six–tenths of a child, I will round up to three children, in which the Simpson family
has: Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Also, the average American is a blue–collar worker. The father figure, Homer, meets this factor with his job at the nuclear
power plant within his hometown of Springfield. So according to the statistics, the Simpson family could be considered an average American family.
In the next part of the essay, I will look at each individual character of the Simpson family, and try to relate how that individual could be considered a
typical American. I attempt to avoid using stereotypes, but nothing is full proof. I will look at some of the character's traits and try to relate how that
is a parody of an American.
First, I will begin with discussing the character of Homer Simpson. As you might know, Homer is the father figure of the household, whose
responsibilities include financially supporting the household, since he is the household's primary source of income. He has his flaws like any person
would, but somehow he and his family tend to work it out. Some of his mishaps are very similar to those that most of us have had to face. For
example, he leaves the keys in his door to the house quite often (Hall, "The
Homer File" p. 2). Another example, would

The Simpsons ' Worst Running Tv Series Of All Time
One of the longest running TV series of all time is the Simpsons. The Simpsons is an animated sitcom that uses satire to depict the "average" American
family. The Simpson Family consists of Homer (father), Marge (mother), Bart (son), Lisa (daughter), and Maggie (baby). In 2007 The Simpsons hit the
big screen. This major motion picture about Springfield, the home of the Simpson Family, and has just about everything possibly imaginable.
Springfield however has a very large problem, they pollute like no other place in the United States. It was not until Lisa Simpson proved to the town
how polluted the local lake was that change was instituted. After Lisa "saves" the lake the city institutes wide spread trash and recycling procedures.
However Homer doesn't want to wait in one of the lines and instead dumps his trash in the lake. This is the straw that broke the camel's back because
after this the lake became toxic. At this point the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) steps in and with the authorization of the President.
Springfield becomes encapsulated in a large dome. At this point it becomes a life or death situation. The Simpsons then manage to escape and go on a
wild journey. Only to eventually get caught. Once the Simpsons are returned to the dome, a massive bomb is placed in an effort to prevent Springfield
from further pollution. (The Simpsons Movie). The looming threat that in a short matter of time everyone could be dead. It is at this point that Terror

rejection of some of their scripts. In the episode, it is evident that Homer did not complete his high school and has a science course, which he is
required to take. As Bart and Lisa seem to be discouraged by the bad episodes brought forth in "Itchy and Scratchy", they start to write the episodes

Conard says that Bart does not take on the chaos like Nietzsche says but he is just an empty being of bad actions. This argument is ridiculous; Bart

The Success of The Simpsons
In recent years, a certain animated sitcom has caught the public's attention, evoking reactions that are both favourable and unfavourable, but hardly
ever apathetic.
As a brilliant, socially aware satire, Matt Groening's 'The Simpson's' has effectively stirred different emotions from different factions of the culturally
deadened American populace and for this alone, it should be recognised as quality programming. The Simpsons is a brutal satire of our society and our
family structures yet it offers several redeeming qualities such as feminism, endurance and most of all humour.

The fact that the show works on several levels at once draws a generational diverse fan base. The adults are attracted by the surprisingly sophisticated
dialogue, while the children enjoy the clumsy antics of Homer and the traditionally "cartoonish" aspects of the programme.
The Simpson's themselves are a simple family in a small town in Middle America called Springfield. They are: Homer (loyal but stupid father), Marge
(dissatisfied, trapped housewife/ mother), Bart (rebellious son), Lisa (unappreciated genius daughter), and Maggie (silent baby). The show also
revolves around a number of other characters.
The members of the family have their own quirks and are constantly feuding amongst themselves. The hilarious show portrays the ups and downs of the
Simpson's which real families are said to relate with, to a certain to degree. The highly provocative sitcom has revolutionised cartoons and has bought
humour and mixed feelings to a new audience than previously brought before.
The fact that all the characters in The Simpsons have four fingers shows that they are all unique and unified community despite age and race, this also
makes a good statement. The skin colour is attractive to young viewers but also has meaning to older viewers, and different parts of the show are
aimed at different audiences.

Cosby Show Family Values
Family values have always been major conversation matter in the United States and it is often huge key points when it comes to decision making by
politicians and business. Many people asked the question of how a single person perceives those values. The answer to that is people often judge
family values through two sides of the spectrum, one side being how normal other people behaves towards each other, and the second side being how
they believe others families behave. Nowadays, people in our society are heavily influence about family values based on what others tell them, and
most importantly, based on what they view on television. Some television shows such as Friends or The Cosby Show has become such huge hits in
the country because people are curious about how people function as a whole or within their own families. However, the images of family that were
portrayed by those TV shows often too perfect compare to the reality. It was not until 1987 when Fox Network decided to bring a dysfunctional family
known as The Simpsons, the television has successfully mirrored every type of family in America. Each member of the Simpsons had different
qualities and struggles, they are unique in their own way and almost every real life families could relate to them. According a recent TV Guide Poll

BART Shooting Research Paper

  • 1. BART Shooting Research Paper Johannes Mehserle unintentionally shot and killed Oscar Grant. He was on duty as a train officer for BART transportation and was on alert for those who had celebrated New Year's Eve. The shooting occurred at the Fruitvale train station on January 1st, 2009. At the station, a fight broke out in one of the trains and when the train stopped the fight started again outside of the train at one of the stops. While they were fighting on the train the BART officers were called. The officers came and arrested everyone that was in the fight. A guy named Oscar Grant was in the fight and was also arrested (Meyer). While Grant was being arrested by Officer Mehserle, he resisted the officer's attempts. Since Grant was resisting he was pushed onto the ground on his stomach to be handcuffed. Johannes Mehserle was having trouble handcuffing Grant so the other BART officers helped him. When Grant was on the ground Mehserle was going to tase him since he would not stop resisting. When Mehserle thought he pulled out his TASER, he instead pulled out his gun. Mehserle accidentally shot Grant with his gun since he thought he pulled out his TASER (Bulwa). Mehserle used his gun instead of his TASER on accident. There could be many reasons as to why he thought he pulled out his TASER instead of his gun. One reason is because there are days when officers change their holsters and the items that are in their holsters. One day the TASER could be on one side and the next day it could be on the other ... • 2. Bart Station Analysis As I walked through Downtown Berkeley, I decided to sit near the Bart Station. I noticed that everyone around me had somewhere to go because it felt like everyone was in a rush. For example, I noticed that people were jaywalking the streets. As I sat down, I noticed that there were other students from my class that sat down near me as well. In addition, I also noticed Tak was sitting behind me, eating his sandwich. As I was sitting down and looked at those who were walking, I realized that it was mostly caucasians that were passing by, many dressed well, some were even wearing suits. However, there is a feeling of togetherness even though someone has somewhere to go or there are homeless people that are laughing with others. Often, when my mom drops me off and we pass by the homeless, she mentions that they look like they're having the times of their lives with their instruments and people around them on Telegraph. She has a good point. Because I live extremely close to Downtown Berkeley, I see familiar faces for the past two years and I wonder how they do it, how they live, and I imagine what they must go through everyday. However, my thoughts got interrupted when there was a group of teenagers that walked passed me and they were screaming at each other with their hip hop music played up extremely high. I was a bit annoyed, but I got over it within seconds. I think everyone goes through that angry teenage stage. As I watched them walk away in anger, I noticed someone was wearing a bright yellow shirt and I assume that it's a security guard, making sure that there are no trouble is ... • 3. The Simpsons ' Is There Anything They Can 't Do? "Donuts. Is there anything they can't do?" That is just one of the many thought–provoking questions asked by Homer Simpson on the world famous TV show, the Simpsons. A very basic summary of this show, as said by therichest.com, is that it is set in the fictional town of Springfield, and focuses of different aspects of human condition, such as American culture, television, and society. While it may seem simple, there are a lot of components that go into the making of this show, and the final product. To help everybody body get a better understanding of this show, I will first talk about howthe Simpsons came to be a show, secondly, I will talk about the characters, and thirdly, I will talk about the comedic aspects of it. First, I'm going to talk about how this show started out and it's essential components. Matt Groening is the primary creator of the show, and his Co–Creator Sam Smith are the two people behind a lot of the starting ideas of the Simpsons. Matt Groening wanted a show that is able to talk about heavy subjects in a light situation, and that is exactly what he, with the help of many others, has done. His inspiration behind this show was for it to have the Simpson family be based off of his own. As the show developed, the characters did as well, and each character became to be less and less like his real family. At the beginning of every episode, the same theme song is played (though it is sometimes altered), and FactSlides.com says that it took Danny Elfman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lily Bart Artistic Nature In Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth, Lily Bart is characterized by her artistic nature. She is not only an artist, but a work of art. Lily uses her artistic temperament to enhance her beauty and attract potential suitors. Unfortunately, this use of Lily's artistic nature is never wholly satisfying. She sees beauty as her ticket into high society – but it is what eventually causes her fall from grace as it causes men to objectify her and women to be jealous of her. Lily is an artist with an eye for beauty. Her pleasure in "tones and textures" is "one of her inmost susceptibilities"(10). Ever since she was a young lady, Lily has had artistic tendencies. When she was a girl in her parents' home, Lily suggested that they have fresh lilies at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lily is desperately holding onto her place in society when she goes on a cruise with the Dorsets. She is working hard to maintain her looks. As Mrs. Fisher says, "[Lily] looks ten years younger – I never saw her so handsome"(146). Mrs. Fisher also remarks on how the Crown Princess is very partial to Lily's good looks and charm. However, her skill at the art of beauty ruins her life because it causes men to be aggressive and women to be jealous. This ignites scandalous rumors of Lily having affairs. The most fatal of these rumors is started by Bertha Dorset when she accuses Lily of having an affair with George Dorset. This is a devastating blow for Lily – her whole reputation is ruined. These rumors are believable because, if given the chance, George would love to have an affair with Lily. In fact, Bertha wanted Lily to join the Dorsets on their cruise because she knew how attracted George was to Lily and she needed a distraction from her own affair with Ned Silverton. But once Bertha's affair was unmasked, Lily was no longer considered useful, and therefore disposed of. According to Louis Auchincloss, "Lily's beauty is the light in which each of her different groups would like to shine, but when they find that it illuminates their ugliness they want to put it out." Once Bertha unleashes her jealousy (coupled with her influence and money) on Lily, no amount of artistry can help Lily regain her footing in society. As she says to Seldon, "What can one do when one finds that one only fits into one hole? One must get back to it or be thrown into the rubbish heap"(240) Lily cannot "get back to it" because Bertha's unconquerable social influence has blocked her out of high society for good. Lily is cast out and forced to live as part of the working class . Unfortunately, her skill set is non–transferable and she performs her jobs poorly. All her life she has been trained for a single job– marry a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Grandpa Simpson's The Front Bart and Lisa become bored with the scripts hence they decide to write own episodes of "The Front". The aspect of boredom comes about due to rejection of some of their scripts. In the episode, it is evident that Homer did not complete his high school and has a science course, which he is required to take. As Bart and Lisa seem to be discouraged by the bad episodes brought forth in "Itchy and Scratchy", they start to write the episodes under the name of Grandpa Simpson. Ideally, this assignment aims at providing an in–depth view of the various elements and techniques, which the author uses to enable the viewers grasp whatever the series encompasses. Some of the elements used comprise of the author's use of binarisms, humor, metatelevision, as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The character that is stereotyped is known as Apu. For long periods, the viewers and writers did not know that he was not a real figure but rather a stereotyped character. His main role is to provoke a laugh from the jokes. Considerately, people argue that the reason why it was difficult to identify the character as figurative or not is because all the details are filtered using a white lens. The actor whose voice is used to represent that of Apu is also a white man and a large part of the writers of "The Simpsons" that depicts a significant contribution to "The Front" episode and comprises of the whites hence that would be another reason for the constraints in identification of the stereotyped character. In essence, the voice is an impression of a white guy who seems to make fun of a father (Singh, 2014). The use of Apu as a stereotype expresses the manner in which two different cultures can come together and engage in particular processes. Ideally, this is seen in the sense that the character is an Indian having descendent from the southern region of Asia. Through this, it would also be easy to depict the varying cultural practices and experiences across different communities. Therefore, the problems that affect them within the society would be established ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Bart Ehrman's Definition Of Myth Bart Ehrman believes the chapter of Genesis is a myth. The term myth has many different definitions though so let's see what he meant when he said myth. Ehrman's definition of a myth is, "a story about God or gods and their activities, which tries to make sense of the world and our place in it", In Ehrman's eyes, the book of Genesis (in this case chapters 1–11) is just a story, no more real than the story of Cinderella. Looking at McCutcheon's list of different definitions of the word myth, I find that Ehrman's definition best fits with 'Pre–scientific explanations of natural phenomena' which basically says that myths are people trying to explain what they observe around them, their environment. Ehrman believes that creation is a myth, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Bart Simpson Research Paper A trickster is a character that survives by wits and skill. They are also very crafty (Mythology in Literary Culture). Tricksters are everywhere. You never know when they are going to strike. They could do it to make things better or worse. They impact a story in a good way or a bad way but regardless they help create the conflict of the story. There are famous ones and there are normal ones. In this case there are three big tricksters from Greek mythology, Norse mythology, and modern day characters in TV shows. The Greek God Hermes, the Norse God Loki, and the funny character Bart Simpson from the Simpsons all share the qualities and characteristics of being a trickster. He is a trickster day in and day out committing errors and having fun while doing so. Additionally, he never stops which means that there is trouble all the time in the Simpsons' neighborhood. One instance in which he displayed his trickery was when he switched papers with this kid named Martin and everyone thought that he was super smart and intelligent. He then went to a top level school and had a hard time so he got caught (Milthorpe). Bart tricks people in many different ways, physically, mentally and even without people realizing that the jokes on them. Another example of him displaying trickery was when "Bart made a tee–shirt saying "down with homework." He got the idea from mad magazine. This stunt lead to the whole school having to wear uniforms that took the life out of everyone until the gray got washed away and the uniforms turned colorful" (Milthorpe). Bart uses artistry and imagination from a magazine to create a stylish outfit for everyone to wear. Bart is one of those tricksters that mostly commits trickery for the bad of others. Whatever Bart does, he always ends up destroying something and/or ruining someone's day or even their life. • 8. The D-Bart Company Case Introduction D–Bart Industries is an organization in that manufacturing industry that fabricates precision parts for medical equipment and airplane parts. This newly formed firm was created from the merger of two previous competitors, Davis Manufacturing and Bartlund Technologies. Moreover, these organizations were managed significantly different: Erik Bartlund greatly empowered his employees and fostered a climate of innovation and product development, while Ted Davis relied on a stringent hierarchy of command and control to create quality products. Also, Davis industries were unionized, while Bartlund remained nonunion, a structure that was carried over to D–Bart. After the merger, the large company initially consisted of nine total geographically separated locations; therefore, to scale back, management decided to close the San Jose plant and move the majority of employees to San Francisco location. In order to facilitate the closing, the San Jose division manager, Karen Howell decided to let go roughly 20% of the employees. Regardless, the company can attempt to limit the loss of valuable employees by offering and monitoring the voluntary separations in a manner that prevents from employees with similar skills from leaving (Zatzick, Zhao, & Tingling, 2014). Allowing the mission to guide the institution into endeavors not previously sought, provides opportunities for progression. • 12. The Simpsons: Dysfunctional, Middle Class, American Family The Simpsons The smooth sound of the saxophone serenaded my ears as I sat on the luxurious seats of the lounge room awaiting the premiere of "The Simpsons." From that moment, I not only wanted, but knew that I had to play the saxophone. "The Simpsons" is a depiction of a stereotypical, middle class, American family. The characters which make up this dysfunctional yet hilariously amusing family are Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Although at times the family as a whole can be perceived as foolish and outrageous, "The Simpsons" have one redeemable member who shines through with her witty personality and intellectual qualities; and that is the one and only Miss Lisa Simpson. This is evident in the theme song to "The Simpsons" where Lisa is sitting in band formation as the orchestra plays in unison under the conductors' direction. From there Lisa chooses to become her own and express her idiosyncrasy of independence as she begins her jazz solo. • 13. Character Analysis Of Bart Simpson There is fiction of all forms, from movies, books, television shows, anything you can think of. With these things come fictional characters in which sometimes we can get attached to and feel that we can easily relate to them in some many levels. As a kid growing up my favorite fictional things were the television shows and movies. Some shows for example where Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Danny Phantom, Jimmy Neutron, etc., and as for movies I really enjoyed watching Spider–Man movies, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc. It was easy to find a character in which I could personally relate too. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Bart Simpson from "The Simpsons" for getting himself into trouble but also mainly because he is a fast learner, Goofy for his funny charismatic personality, and Naruto for his determination of never giving up and proving to people what he is capable of doing. Firstly I would like to talk about how I think Goofy and I are similar. The "A Goofy Movie" was a movie in which Goofy and his son go on a vacation for the summer. The film has many scenes where Goofy obviously means well but you see he's funny personality come out in the film as well as his amiable cluelessness. A particular scene where Goofy shows his characteristics is in the scene where him and Max go to a concert but Goofy can not seem to find Max. • 21. Fiction And Fact Fiction : The Inmulations Of Fact Fiction Fiction is the classification for any setting or story that is derived from imagination in other words, not based strictly on history. Fact Fiction can be expressed in a variety of formats, including writings, performances, films, television programs, animations, video games, and role–playing games. Psychology researchers have long ignored fiction literature because its only role seems to be entertainment, with no compatible connection validity. We argue that literary narratives have a more important purpose. Literary narratives offer simulations of the social world via abstraction, compression, and simplification. This simulation facilitates the communication and understanding of social information and makes it more compelling, achieving a form of learning through experience. Participating in the simulative experiences of fiction literature can facilitate the understanding of others who are different from us and can argue our capacity for social inference and empathy. • 24. Television Shows A Influence On Children TV shows represent a great influence in children because they learn how to behave by imitating what they watch on TV. By watching TV, children get the idea of how gender roles are structured in society, and they think that is the proper way to classify men and women. Since a young age, children create their own perspective about gender roles and they grow up following the same example they learned when they were little. TV shows are a media that society uses to teach people the differences on gender roles and to keep the traditional point of view that society has been creating through the time; TV shows plays an important tool in the construction of gender. Women and men have always been portrayed in society in a different way; generally, men are considered to be better than women. Women are expected to have roles that are according to the common stereotypes that have been established in society; women's proper place is at home to take care of the family. The Simpsons deals with common stereotypes about nuclear family and women roles which have always been present in American culture; the show represents and challenges the ideologies about gender roles and patriarchy because sometimes, the show is contradictory since it represents women as the typical housewife, and other times, women are represented as taking a new role because they begin to work outside of the house. Ever since the age of television dawned on American culture, situation comedies have tried to portray the typical American family in an attempt to reach as many viewers as possible. In the 1950's, there was "Leave It to Beaver" which represented a generic view of the American family during its time. There was a father whose responsibility was to financially support the family and be a role model for his children. The "consumption" (Delingpole) of the program and its messages by the American public when the show first aired regularly was drastically different than what it is now and what the writers of the show intended. On face value alone, "The Simpsons" is not much more than a cartoon about a middle–class family and their ridiculous escapades. But when examined more closely and with a more objective eye ? "consumed" as the show?s writers would intend ? one can see that "The Simpsons" is truly a comment on American society. "The Simpsons" basis, a father, a mother, and three kids, is far from unusual. The "typical" American is a blue–collar worker not unlike the father, Homer, who works a mindless job at the local nuclear power plant in the Simpsons' hometown of Springfield which is basically Anytown, USA. Usually, what constitutes making up a family is relative to a specific culture, but as always, there are exceptions to the rule. The Success of The Simpsons Essay The Success of The Simpsons In recent years, a certain animated sitcom has caught the public's attention, evoking reactions that are both favourable and unfavourable, but hardly ever apathetic. As a brilliant, socially aware satire, Matt Groening's 'The Simpson's' has effectively stirred different emotions from different factions of the culturally deadened American populace and for this alone, it should be recognised as quality programming. The Simpsons is a brutal satire of our society and our family structures yet it offers several redeeming qualities such as feminism, endurance and most of all humour. The fact that the show works on several levels at once draws a generational diverse fan base. The adults are attracted by the surprisingly sophisticated dialogue, while the children enjoy the clumsy antics of Homer and the traditionally "cartoonish" aspects of the programme. The Simpson's themselves are a simple family in a small town in Middle America called Springfield. They are: Homer (loyal but stupid father), Marge (dissatisfied, trapped housewife/ mother), Bart (rebellious son), Lisa (unappreciated genius daughter), and Maggie (silent baby). The show also revolves around a number of other characters. The members of the family have their own quirks and are constantly feuding amongst themselves. The hilarious show portrays the ups and downs of the Simpson's which real families are said to relate with, to a certain to degree. The highly provocative sitcom has revolutionised cartoons and has bought humour and mixed feelings to a new audience than previously brought before. The fact that all the characters in The Simpsons have four fingers shows that they are all unique and unified community despite age and race, this also makes a good statement. The skin colour is attractive to young viewers but also has meaning to older viewers, and different parts of the show are aimed at different audiences. This sitcom has become one of the most popular television programs in America. Is it because The Simpsons is a cartoon? My answer is yes! This show is able to sneak through the wormholes of TV land because it is a cartoon. People are overlooking the underlying issues conveyed through the characters because it's only cartoons right? Wrong! The Simpsons is a satirical sitcom that makes fun of everyday issues that Americans in today's society are faced with. In a way this is a fabulous idea. His job is to monitor energy use, and document it precisely so American's are billed correctly for their energy use. He is working to prevent exactly what he is doing wrong at home by stealing cable television. Many Americas could have been watching this episode on their cable televisions. For those Americans who are actually stealing cable television this episode will either consciously or unconsciously make those families think about what they are doing is wrong. This is an intelligent way of conveying an important message to people. This type of action is not acceptable behavior. This format is brilliant because it is actually funny but at the same time very serious. Americans can relate to this issue and respond in a more understanding way because this cartoon is more approachable when stealing is addressed in a humorous manner. Hopefully, this will cause people to think twice about what they are actually doing. Bart takes this whole idea of stealing the cable as an excellent opportunity to make a little cash by inviting his peers to view the pornography channel at a cost of fifty cents per head. At first, this appears to be hilarious because most people can relate to what Bart is doing. Yet it is not the fact that Bart was selling pornography. Homer freaked out over Bart providing sexual viewing in his home rather than realizing it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Cosby Show Family Values Family values have always been major conversation matter in the United States and it is often huge key points when it comes to decision making by politicians and business. Many people asked the question of how a single person perceives those values. The answer to that is people often judge family values through two sides of the spectrum, one side being how normal other people behaves towards each other, and the second side being how they believe others families behave. Nowadays, people in our society are heavily influence about family values based on what others tell them, and most importantly, based on what they view on television. Some television shows such as Friends or The Cosby Show has become such huge hits in the country because people are curious about how people function as a whole or within their own families. • 39. The BART Model The BART Model is consisted of four parts: boundary, authority, role, and task. Boundary works as the container for the group, such as time, space, and resources. The authority is the power to lead and direct the group project in general. When a person takes up his or her authority, it implies that he or she is taking the responsibility and the position of the leader. But there are two types of authorities: formal authority and informal authority. Formal authority should be clearly characterized in one's role by the general population that is granting it and fully comprehended by the general population that is receiving it. And the informal authority is an authority that was not clearly defined, but granted according to a mutual, tacit agreement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We finished building the tower, and it was the highest after all, although it fell on the ground immediately. In this challenge, we had to follow the professor's instruction, which was a formal authority that we had to obey, but I don't think we had any informal authority; none of us knew enough to assign certain people to do something. Desiree took the role of supplying the tape; it was not because she was assigned to do it by someone, but because she happened to be sitting in a more suitable position to do that role. And the rest of us didn't adhere to certain roles, but we moved from one to another. One thing that I noticed is that I didn't find any social loafing among our group members. I have heard a lot of social loafing happening in group projects from my friends, and I think it is natural to have one. One of the main reasons why Socialism failed is because people didn't do their assigned job as they were all sharing the outcome. People tend to work a lot less when the task is not their own responsibility. However, with the competition against other teams, the reward that the professor offered, and limited time and resources, our group members did their job ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Bart Janssen Summary In this article Bart Jansen presents a highly objective viewpoint about how the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has begun regulating drone operations across the nation. Commercial and personal drone use has been on the rise over the past decade, with the military being among the first to begin using remotely piloted aircrafts (RPA). I believe that the FAA is completely going in the right direction with the regulations that are being set in place. As an active duty aviator, I can account multiple instances where drone sightings abnormally close to or on military bases have led to elevated advisories for flight operations. I can only assume that busy commercial airports have to take even greater precautions after sightings of low, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lily Bart, an unlucky woman who went from riches to rags, fights to retain her position in high–class society. Unfortunately, her lack of wealth and status as an unmarried 29–year old woman makes her vulnerable to that same society. Thisnovel explores the dark sides of humanity and depicts the lesson that life is never fair. Lily makes her own choices, however, they are not entirely made of her own volition. The heavy influence and expectations of Lily's environment captures her in a deterministic system, therefore House of Mirth is a naturalist novel. Strangely, Lily is never described as "ruined" in the novel, perhaps because she is never physically "ruined" but only rumored to have been ruined, by virtue of her connection to a married man, Gus Trenor. Her connection to Trenor is of course provable because she borrowed money from him; she is rumored to be ruined sexually because she was ruined financially. Of course, women can't be ruined financially, as men can; in the case of House of Mirth, Lily's father: "I'm ruined" he says, when the fortune fails (34). But the family's fortune isn't entirely gone until Lily is ruined as well: Lily's beauty "was the last asset in their fortunes, the nucleus around which their life was to be rebuilt" ...
