Tips on finding a relationship between
two members of a family:
 Step 1: The first and foremost step is to choose the two persons
among whom the relationship is to be established.
 Step 2: Draw the relationship chart based on the given clues in the
questions.
 Step 3: Establish the relationship. (Be careful, how is A related to B
is not same as how is B related to A)
Make sure that you represent the gender of a female with a "○" sign
and that of a male with a "□" .
Represent all the people of same generation at same level in the
relationship chart.

1. Pointing to a photograph of a boy Suresh
said, "He is the son of the only son of my
mother." How is Suresh related to that boy?
A. Brother
B. Uncle
C. Cousin
D. Father
Answer: Option D
The boy in the photograph is the only son of
the son of Suresh's mother i.e., the son of
Suresh. Hence, Suresh is the father of boy

A is nephew to B. What is B to A?
Answer :
Uncle or Aunt

B is the brother of A and E is the brother of D. If D is the father
of B then how E and A are related?
Answer:
Nephew or Niece

A is father of C and D is son of B. E is brother of A. If C is sister
of D, how is B related to E ?
Answer:
A is father of C and C is sister of D.
So, A is father of D. But D is son of B.
So, B is the mother of D and wife of A. Also, E is the brother of A.
So, B is the sister-in-law of E

Akhil points at Gaurav in a party and says, “Gaurav’s mother
Radha is the only daughter of my mother-in-law.
How is Akhil’s mother-in-law related to Gaurav?
Answer :
Grandmother

Examples
A is B's sister. C is B's mother. D is C's father. E is D's mother. Then, how
is A related to D?
Explanation
A is the sister of B and B is the daughter or son of C.
So, A is the daughter of C. Also, D is the father of C.
So, A is the granddaughter of D.
Examples
Pointing to a person, a man said to a woman, "His mother is the daughter
of your father." How was the woman related to the person ?
Explanation:
Daughter of your father — Your sister. So, the person's mother is
woman's sister or the woman is person's aunt
Examples
Introducing a boy, a girl said, "He is the son of the only daughter of the
father of my uncle." How is the boy related to the girl?
A. Cousin
B. Nephew
C. Uncle
D. Son-in-law
Answer: Option A
Hint : The father of the boy's uncle → the grandfather of the boy

If A + B means A is the sister of B; A x B means A is the wife of
B, A % B means A is the father of B and A - B means A is the
brother of B. Which of the following means T is the daughter of

A. P x Q % R + S – T
B. P x Q % R - T + S

T + S → T is the sister of S.

Examples
There are six persons A. B, C, D, E and F. C is the sister of F. B is the
brother of E's husband. D is the father of A and grandfather of F. There are
two fathers, three brothers and a mother in the group. Who is the mother ?
Answer : E
D is father of A and grandfather of F. So, A is father of F.
Thus, D and A are the two fathers.
C is the sister of F. So, C is the daughter of A.
Since there is only one mother, it is evident that E is the wife of A and
hence the mother of C and F.
So, B is brother of A There are three brothers. So, F is the brother of C.
Clearly, A is E's Husband.
