This study analyzed trace elements within augite samples from komatiitic basalts in the Barberton Greenstone Belt in South Africa using LA-ICP-MS. Results showed that rare earth elements in the freshest augites closely matched predicted values from bulk rock analyses when accounting for distribution coefficients and fractionation. Zirconium and titanium also exhibited anomalies that corresponded to bulk rock data, indicating these elements remained in a closed system. However, sodium, strontium, and barium were mobilized during alteration in the bulk rocks. Analyzing trace elements in augites provides a better representation of these mobile elements and confirms fractionation and assimilation processes during komatiite petrogenesis.

This study presents a sequence stratigraphic framework for the Late Cretaceous interval in the offshore Mid-Norway area based on an extensive biostratigraphic review of wells. Key microfossil events are used to correlate sequence boundaries, transgressive surfaces, and surfaces of maximum marine transgression for integration with wireline logs and seismic data. Several periods of deep-water sandstone development within sequences are identified as potential reservoirs. Biostratigraphy played an important role in recognizing and correlating Late Cretaceous sequences in the region due to the predominantly claystone lithology masking stratigraphic breaks in wireline logs.

TGS Russia- Evolution of the Greater Kara Sea

This study examines the petrophysical properties and lithofacies distribution of the upper Miocene Abu Madi Formation, a major natural gas reservoir in the Nile Delta. Six lithofacies were identified from core analysis, including trough cross-bedded, parallel laminated and massive sandstones that serve as the primary reservoirs. The sandstones exhibit good porosity but variable permeability, with the trough cross-bedded and massive lithofacies having the best reservoir quality. Clay and silt-dominated lithofacies act as vertical permeability barriers. The depositional environment was interpreted as fluvial channels within incised valley-fills. TGS East Russian Arctic- Geology and Hydrocarbon Systems
TGS has completed the first phase of a project studying the geology and hydrocarbon systems of the East Russian Arctic. The project involved field studies and sample collection along the coastal areas of the Laptev Sea to better understand the petroleum geology of offshore sedimentary basins in the region. Over 1,000 samples were collected and will undergo laboratory analysis to provide new insights into topics like the tectonic evolution of basins, petroleum systems, source rocks, and depositional environments in this underexplored region. The results will be reported and used to improve assessments of hydrocarbon potential for the Siberian Arctic shelf. Future phases will expand fieldwork to other areas.

This document describes two algorithms for determining water depth from high-resolution satellite imagery: a standard linear transform algorithm and a new ratio transform algorithm. The linear transform requires tuning five parameters and does not work for very low albedo bottoms, while the ratio transform requires tuning only two parameters and can handle low albedo features. Both algorithms were tested on IKONOS imagery of two coral reef atolls in the Hawaiian Islands against lidar bathymetry data. The ratio transform performed as well as the linear transform and was more robust, stable between areas, and able to retrieve depths over 25m. However, it was also slightly noisier and had trouble resolving fine structures below 15-20m depth.

One of the most spectacular signatures of global “Oceanic Anoxic Events” (OAEs) of the Cretaceous was deposited at the Cenomanian–Turonian Boundary. This global oceanic anoxic event is also referred to as Cenomanian–Turonian Boundary Event (CTBE). This event is marked by the deposition of finely laminated organic carbon rich sediments deposited under oxygen depleted conditions. The main goal of the present research is to get a better understanding of the marine biota characterizing the oceanic anoxic event in the Calabar Flank. Core samples obtained from two (2) study wells in the Calabar Flank, southeastern Nigeria were utilized for this study and standard biostratigraphic sample preparation/ separation and analytical approaches were applied in the course of the study. The Cenomanian – Turonian age was assigned based on age diagnostic foraminifera (Hedbergella crassa, Heterohelix moremani, Heterohelix planata, Heterohelix reussi, Hedbergella delrioensis, Hedbergella planispira) and age diagnostic palynomorphs (Steevesipollenites binodosus, Ephedripites sp, Leiotriletes sp, Classopollis sp, Classopollis classoides, Classopollis annulatus, Ephedripites jansonii, Cretacaeiporites mulleri, Cretacaeiporites polygonalis, Galeacornea clavis and Triorites africaensis). The sediments of the study wells were deposited in a range of environments from non-marine to mid neritic and the recovered foraminifera are characterized by the presence of abundant but dwarfed planktic forms and low diversity of dwarfed arenaceous forms at some intervals which strongly support deposition in an oxygen depleted environment.

This document summarizes an analysis of reservoir facies and production classifications in a Frasnian-age reservoir in West Siberia. Core data from 7 wells and well log data from 27 wells in a 235 km2 3D seismic survey area were analyzed. Four litho-facies were identified from core analysis and predicted in uncored wells using fuzzy logic. A 3D static model integrating seismic, core, and log data was constructed to predict litho-facies, porosity, and permeability cubes. A conductivity map produced from the modeling can help identify the most productive areas for drilling.

Abstract
Although faults of the consolidated crust play crucial role in the origin of sedimentary features and hydrocarbon accumulation, the tectonic setting of the NE Black Sea shelf is poorly known. The aim of this work is to compile the most detailed map of faults in the consolidated crust and test comprehensively a linkage between crustal disturbances and potential hydrocarbon features. Understanding such a relationship may be helpful in planning location of exploration boreholes.
For the first time, 3D gravity and magnetic models have been obtained at a scale of 1:200,000 for the NE Black Sea shelf. Based on the analysis of the observed magnetic field and gravity effect of the consolidated crust, the most detailed map has bееn compiled for tectonic faults of the consolidated crust. The relationship has been derived between the crustal and sedimentary faults. The prospective local anticlinal features have been revealed to be associated with certain systems of tectonic disturbances in the different crustal layers and magnetic inhomogeneity in the crust. The magnetic bodies of the consolidated crust and sedimentary cover can be of common origin due to
the influence of hydrocarbons vertically migrating along the deep faults. An individual block of high density has been delimited by the faults in the consolidated crust where there occur practically all prospective hydrocarbon features. The southern margin of this block is recommended as a new potential area for oil and gas exploration where gas seeps
are genetically related to the tectonic disturbances of different orders.
A first model has been derived for thermal evolution of the Kerch-Taman Trough from the pseudo-well method. A total subsidence of its basement can reach 5.0-6.5 km. The present-day temperature vs. depth profiles have been calculated. A thermal and stratigraphic position
has been determined for zones of oil and gas origin.

The Vaca Muerta shale formation in Argentina has promising potential as an unconventional oil and gas resource. It is characterized as a marine deposit with organic-rich shale that varies in thickness from 160 to 400 meters across the basin. Well construction and cementing the Vaca Muerta presented challenges due to high bottomhole temperatures up to 260°F and required slurry densities of around 18 pounds per gallon. Laboratory tests on cuttings or cores were used to characterize the shale and evaluate interactions with drilling fluids to design fluids that minimized chemical changes to the reservoir and improved stability.

This study examines the petrophysical properties and lithofacies distribution of the upper Miocene Abu Madi Formation, a major natural gas reservoir in the Nile Delta. Six lithofacies were identified from core analysis, including trough cross-bedded, parallel laminated and massive sandstones that serve as the primary reservoirs. The sandstones exhibit good porosity but variable permeability, with the trough cross-bedded and massive lithofacies having the best reservoir quality. Clay and silt-dominated lithofacies act as vertical permeability barriers. The depositional environment was interpreted as fluvial channels within incised valley-fills. The study provides insights into reservoir quality and exploration of fluvial channel deposits

TGS East Russian Arctic- Geology and Hydrocarbon Systems
TGS has completed the first phase of a project studying the geology and hydrocarbon systems of the East Russian Arctic. The project involved field studies and sample collection along the coastal areas of the Laptev Sea to better understand the petroleum geology of offshore sedimentary basins in the region. Over 1,000 samples were collected and will undergo laboratory analysis to provide new insights into topics like the tectonic evolution of basins, petroleum systems, source rocks, and depositional environments in this underexplored region. The results will be reported and used to improve assessments of hydrocarbon potential for the Siberian Arctic shelf. Future phases will expand fieldwork to other areas.

This document describes two algorithms for determining water depth from high-resolution satellite imagery: a standard linear transform algorithm and a new ratio transform algorithm. The linear transform requires tuning five parameters and does not work for very low albedo bottoms, while the ratio transform requires tuning only two parameters and can handle low albedo features. Both algorithms were tested on IKONOS imagery of two coral reef atolls in the Hawaiian Islands against lidar bathymetry data. The ratio transform performed as well as the linear transform and was more robust, stable between areas, and able to retrieve depths over 25m. However, it was also slightly noisier and had trouble resolving fine structures below 15-20m depth.

One of the most spectacular signatures of global “Oceanic Anoxic Events” (OAEs) of the Cretaceous was deposited at the Cenomanian–Turonian Boundary. This global oceanic anoxic event is also referred to as Cenomanian–Turonian Boundary Event (CTBE). This event is marked by the deposition of finely laminated organic carbon rich sediments deposited under oxygen depleted conditions. The main goal of the present research is to get a better understanding of the marine biota characterizing the oceanic anoxic event in the Calabar Flank. Core samples obtained from two (2) study wells in the Calabar Flank, southeastern Nigeria were utilized for this study and standard biostratigraphic sample preparation/ separation and analytical approaches were applied in the course of the study. The Cenomanian – Turonian age was assigned based on age diagnostic foraminifera (Hedbergella crassa, Heterohelix moremani, Heterohelix planata, Heterohelix reussi, Hedbergella delrioensis, Hedbergella planispira) and age diagnostic palynomorphs (Steevesipollenites binodosus, Ephedripites sp, Leiotriletes sp, Classopollis sp, Classopollis classoides, Classopollis annulatus, Ephedripites jansonii, Cretacaeiporites mulleri, Cretacaeiporites polygonalis, Galeacornea clavis and Triorites africaensis). The sediments of the study wells were deposited in a range of environments from non-marine to mid neritic and the recovered foraminifera are characterized by the presence of abundant but dwarfed planktic forms and low diversity of dwarfed arenaceous forms at some intervals which strongly support deposition in an oxygen depleted environment.

This document summarizes an analysis of reservoir facies and production classifications in a Frasnian-age reservoir in West Siberia. Core data from 7 wells and well log data from 27 wells in a 235 km2 3D seismic survey area were analyzed. Four litho-facies were identified from core analysis and predicted in uncored wells using fuzzy logic. A 3D static model integrating seismic, core, and log data was constructed to predict litho-facies, porosity, and permeability cubes. A conductivity map produced from the modeling can help identify the most productive areas for drilling.

Abstract
Although faults of the consolidated crust play crucial role in the origin of sedimentary features and hydrocarbon accumulation, the tectonic setting of the NE Black Sea shelf is poorly known. The aim of this work is to compile the most detailed map of faults in the consolidated crust and test comprehensively a linkage between crustal disturbances and potential hydrocarbon features. Understanding such a relationship may be helpful in planning location of exploration boreholes.
For the first time, 3D gravity and magnetic models have been obtained at a scale of 1:200,000 for the NE Black Sea shelf. Based on the analysis of the observed magnetic field and gravity effect of the consolidated crust, the most detailed map has bееn compiled for tectonic faults of the consolidated crust. The relationship has been derived between the crustal and sedimentary faults. The prospective local anticlinal features have been revealed to be associated with certain systems of tectonic disturbances in the different crustal layers and magnetic inhomogeneity in the crust. The magnetic bodies of the consolidated crust and sedimentary cover can be of common origin due to
the influence of hydrocarbons vertically migrating along the deep faults. An individual block of high density has been delimited by the faults in the consolidated crust where there occur practically all prospective hydrocarbon features. The southern margin of this block is recommended as a new potential area for oil and gas exploration where gas seeps
are genetically related to the tectonic disturbances of different orders.
A first model has been derived for thermal evolution of the Kerch-Taman Trough from the pseudo-well method. A total subsidence of its basement can reach 5.0-6.5 km. The present-day temperature vs. depth profiles have been calculated. A thermal and stratigraphic position
has been determined for zones of oil and gas origin.

The Vaca Muerta shale formation in Argentina has promising potential as an unconventional oil and gas resource. It is characterized as a marine deposit with organic-rich shale that varies in thickness from 160 to 400 meters across the basin. Well construction and cementing the Vaca Muerta presented challenges due to high bottomhole temperatures up to 260°F and required slurry densities of around 18 pounds per gallon. Laboratory tests on cuttings or cores were used to characterize the shale and evaluate interactions with drilling fluids to design fluids that minimized chemical changes to the reservoir and improved stability.

Parameter yang diukur meliputi suhu, salinitas, pH, kekeruhan, arus, nitrat, fosfat, klorofil a dan kelimpahan fitoplankton. Hasilnya menunjukkan kelimpahan fitoplankton lebih tinggi di muara sungai dibanding pulau, dan dipengaruhi arus.

The ability to recreate computational results with minimal effort and actionable metrics provides a solid foundation for scientific research and software development. When people can replicate an analysis at the touch of a button using open-source software, open data, and methods to assess and compare proposals, it significantly eases verification of results, engagement with a diverse range of contributors, and progress. However, we have yet to fully achieve this; there are still many sociotechnical frictions.
Inspired by David Donoho's vision, this talk aims to revisit the three crucial pillars of frictionless reproducibility (data sharing, code sharing, and competitive challenges) with the perspective of deep software variability.
Our observation is that multiple layers — hardware, operating systems, third-party libraries, software versions, input data, compile-time options, and parameters — are subject to variability that exacerbates frictions but is also essential for achieving robust, generalizable results and fostering innovation. I will first review the literature, providing evidence of how the complex variability interactions across these layers affect qualitative and quantitative software properties, thereby complicating the reproduction and replication of scientific studies in various fields.
I will then present some software engineering and AI techniques that can support the strategic exploration of variability spaces. These include the use of abstractions and models (e.g., feature models), sampling strategies (e.g., uniform, random), cost-effective measurements (e.g., incremental build of software configurations), and dimensionality reduction methods (e.g., transfer learning, feature selection, software debloating).
I will finally argue that deep variability is both the problem and solution of frictionless reproducibility, calling the software science community to develop new methods and tools to manage variability and foster reproducibility in software systems.

Thematic analysis in qualitative research is a time-consuming and systematic task, typically done using teams. Team members must ground their activities on common understandings of the major concepts underlying the thematic analysis, and define criteria for its development. However, conceptual misunderstandings, equivocations, and lack of adherence to criteria are challenges to the quality and speed of this process. Given the distributed and uncertain nature of this process, we wondered if the tasks in thematic analysis could be supported by readily available artificial intelligence chatbots. Our early efforts point to potential benefits: not just saving time in the coding process but better adherence to criteria and grounding, by increasing triangulation between humans and artificial intelligence. This tutorial will provide a description and demonstration of the process we followed, as two academic researchers, to develop a custom ChatGPT to assist with qualitative coding in the thematic data analysis process of immersive learning accounts in a survey of the academic literature: QUAL-E Immersive Learning Thematic Analysis Helper. In the hands-on time, participants will try out QUAL-E and develop their ideas for their own qualitative coding ChatGPT. Participants that have the paid ChatGPT Plus subscription can create a draft of their assistants. The organizers will provide course materials and slide deck that participants will be able to utilize to continue development of their custom GPT. The paid subscription to ChatGPT Plus is not required to participate in this workshop, just for trying out personal GPTs during it.

The fact that Artemia dormant cysts can be stored for long periods in cans, and then used as an off-the-shelf food requiring only 24 h of incubation makes them the most convenient, least labor-intensive, live food available for aquaculture (Sorgeloos & Roubach, 2021). The nutritional value of Artemia, especially for marine organisms, is not constant, but varies both geographically and temporally. During the last decade, however, both the causes of Artemia nutritional variability and methods to improve poorquality Artemia have been identified (Loufi et al., 2024).
Brine shrimp (Artemia spp.) are used in marine aquaculture worldwide. Annually, more than 2,000 metric tons of dry cysts are used for cultivation of fish, crustacean, and shellfish larva. Brine shrimp are important to aquaculture because newly hatched brine shrimp nauplii (larvae) provide a food source for many fish fry (Mozanzadeh et al., 2021). Culture and harvesting of brine shrimp eggs represents another aspect of the aquaculture industry. Nauplii and metanauplii of Artemia, commonly known as brine shrimp, play a crucial role in aquaculture due to their nutritional value and suitability as live feed for many aquatic species, particularly in larval stages (Sorgeloos & Roubach, 2021).
