Design Scripts: Designing (inter)action with intent Bas Leurs
The document discusses design scripts, which are ways that artifacts can prescribe or influence how users interact with and behave around the artifact. Some examples are given, like how speed bumps are designed to signal drivers to slow down. The document also discusses how designers aim to predict how users will interact with their designs and shape user behaviors. Finally, it notes that the principles of design scripts can be found in many fields that aim to influence human cognition, attitudes, and behaviors through the design of artifacts and environments.

The researcher focuses on studying fundamental tradeoffs between cache-obliviousness, cache-optimality, and parallelism of algorithms and data structures. Their work combines theory and experiments on topics like stencil computation, dynamic programming, and numerical algorithms. Recent work showed that optimal time and cache complexity can be achieved simultaneously for problems like longest common subsequence via a "cache-oblivious wavefront" scheduling technique. Open questions remain about applying this approach more broadly and understanding tradeoffs between time and cache complexity.

This proposal outlines a project to reconnect urban populations with nature through locative media installations. It notes that by 2030, 90% of the world's population will live in cities, disconnecting from the natural environment. The objective is to use locative art to bridge the divide between urban and rural experiences. The method will analyze the theoretical relationship between urban and rural spaces, study how to communicate between nature, media and cities through artworks, and test designs through sketches, 3D models, photos and other means. The expected results are public artworks that use scientific analysis and algorithms to connect people emotionally with nature and address the lack of such works in Korea. The timeline outlines research, prototype development, exhibitions and publishing from May
This proposal outlines a project to reconnect urban populations with nature through locative media installations. It notes that by 2030, 90% of people will live in cities and have become disassociated from the natural environment. The objective is to use locative art to bridge the divide between urban and rural experiences. The method will analyze the theoretical relationship between urban and rural spaces, study how to communicate between nature, media and cities through relevant artworks, and design installations informed by scientific analysis. The expected results are public artworks that use science to connect people emotionally with nature and address the disconnect many current artworks have from audiences. A timeline is provided for the research, design, testing and exhibition of the project over several months.

MASTERCLASS FOR KAOS PILOTS, DENMARK
Remixing old texts, images, sounds and videos to create new works is how writers and communities develop shared values and achieve persuasive and creative effects. Remixing is a key contemporary composition practice. Sampling, or copying and pasting parts of existing works, is a form of remixing that is common in new media culture, where professionals and average users apply it across different software applications. Sampling allows for the development of mashups, where elements from different media are combined. When writing or composing new works, authors draw from their vast knowledge and experiences, similar to how DJs sample from existing songs to create new music. The internet represents a collective archive from which new creative works are derived.
This document discusses techno-vernacular creativity (TVC), which refers to cultural art and technology created by underrepresented groups for creative expression. It provides examples of artists like Sanford Biggers who incorporate circles/mandalas from different cultures in their work. The document also describes how mapping, diagramming, and remixing are important aspects of TVC, and how culturally-situated design arts can engage informal science learning through exploration of concepts like rotation and translation.
This document discusses libraries and information services in Denmark. It notes that Denmark has 5.5 million inhabitants and 43,000 square kilometers in area. It also states that the average spending on libraries per capita in Denmark is 14 million Danish krone or 450 euros. The document then discusses strategies to reinvent libraries, including focusing on learning, meetings, performance, and innovation. It provides examples of new services libraries can offer in these areas like workshops, gaming, discussions, and digital media access.
The document discusses key principles of visual art and design such as subject matter, form, content, and context. It explains that subject matter is the central topic or idea, form is how it is structured, content includes themes and meanings, and context considers the circumstances of its creation and viewing. Design combines subject matter and intent with materials and media to create meaningful artifacts. Form is the physical manifestation of an idea that can identify, inform, or persuade depending on its visualization and the viewer's interpretation within a given context.
The document describes a 10-day workshop called "Light Through Culture" held in Ankara that brought together a multicultural and multidisciplinary team of students. The workshop involved lectures and exercises to design an interactive lighting installation to communicate cultural values. It explored topics like group dynamics, the design process, installation as a design research tool, experience design, understanding metaphors, and developing concepts. The goal was to create personal experiences that avoid stereotyping by taking multiple perspectives and using interactivity and engagement to create a vision of cultural values.
The document discusses theories of embodied cognition and experience-based learning. It argues that cognition arises from the dynamic interaction between people and their physical environment. Thought and language are shaped by embodied experiences and activities. Meaning and learning are based on people's subjective experiences of their bodies in action. A social semantic server is proposed as a way to model learning from experiences, though it cannot fully represent how embodied creatures experience and think. The document also discusses Peirce's theories of signs and semiotics.
This document discusses teaching tangible interaction design. It emphasizes defining all terms used, specifying contrasts, studying materials, thinking in metaphors, designing expressions, and finding contrasts using Laban Movement Analysis. Examples are provided of student projects that focus on expression of tangibility, beauty of materials, quality of form and movement in interaction, and innovative usage of emerging technologies. The document advocates for an interaction design framework that gives equal importance to function, interaction, expression, form, material, idea, task, and movement. Collaboration on projects is presented as a way to apply these concepts.

4. OBJECTIVE
A Participatory Approach to create a space for
working adults to revive
their creativity through the mediums of sound,
movement and visuals.
* Participatory Approach - A methodology in -
volving participation and col-
laboration from intended users as well as
people from different fields of
interest related to the task at hand.
Space - In the context of this project, space
refers to a tangible space
and not a virtual space.
Working Adults - People in the age-group of
25-45 roughly in different
occupations.
Creativity - Ability to produce something new
through imaginative skill, whether a new solu -
tion to a problem, a new method or device, or
a new artistic object or form.
Mediums - The ways of manifestation. Here the
mediums are restricted
to sound, movement and visuals to keep the
domain contained and defined

C-Ionian (commonly known as Major Scale) -
Happy, Upbeat
D-Dorian - Jazzy, Sophisticated, Soulful
E-Phrygian - Spanish sound
F-Lydian - Airy, Mesmerising
G-Mixolydian - Bluesy, Easy Going
A-Aeolian (commonly known as Minor Scale) -
Sad, Sorrowful
B-Locrian - Very tense, Dark, Almost sinister

Results do look promising as listeners are able
to associate musical modes to certain kinds of
mood through the use of image boards.
For example the Aeolian and Phrygian modes
tend to be associated with darker, bluer images
while the Ionian mode is associated with
bright colours like Yellow, Orange, Pink etc.
