Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer and musician born in 1685 in Eisenach, Germany. He was sent to school at age 8 to study music, where he learned to copy the works of previous masters by hand. Bach held several musical positions throughout his career, including as choirmaster in Arnstadt. He married twice and had 22 children total, though many died in childhood. Considered a master of organ and counterpoint, Bach composed hundreds of works and helped develop fugue and chorale writing. He died in 1750 in Leipzig, Germany.
