Bach was born in Germany in 1685 and showed great musical talent from a young age, playing violin, singing, and keyboard instruments. He worked as a musician for royalty and churches, composing new music weekly. Though he had 20 children with his two wives, 10 did not survive. His famous musical works include the Brandenburg Concertos, St. Matthew Passion, and Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Bach went blind later in life from an eye surgery complication and died in 1750.
