In this talk I will introduce attendees to the basics of messaging queues, their goals and applications from CFML. Messaging enables software applications to connect and scale. Thus, providing applications to connect to each other as components of a larger application, or to user devices and data. Messaging is asynchronous, and can decouple your software concerns with ease. However, messaging is much more than the traditional publish/subscribe patterns but also the ability to create work queues, routing and much more.
Creating a GraphQL API is more and more common for PHP developers. The task can seem complex but there are a lot of tools to help.
In this talk given at AFUP Paris PHP Meetup, I'm presenting GraphQL and why it is important. Then, I'm having a look at the existing libraries in PHP. Finally, I'm diving in the details of GraphQLite; a library that creates a GraphQL schema by analyzing your PHP code.

Lightning Fast SCADA Development with Open Library for WinCC OA DMC, Inc.
Presenter - Leon Grossman
The Siemens platforms have always encouraged the use of modular, reusable, and object-oriented code. Last year, DMC expanded on those concepts by working with Siemens to release the Open Library. It is a library of many common industrial objects (drives, valves, analog, etc.) that has paired PLC function blocks with HMI faceplates for WinCC Comfort and Advanced.
The Open Library has recently expanded to support WinCC OA and leverage the new object oriented CTRL++ language elements released in WinCC OA v3.15. These new WinCC OA objects directly support the PLC objects in the library and support single tag configuration just like their HMI-centric cousins. We will discuss the role of object-oriented design in, how to obtain the Open Library, and how to use this library in your projects.

Oak, the architecture of Apache Jackrabbit 3Jukka Zitting
Apache Jackrabbit is just about to reach the 3.0 milestone based on a new architecture called Oak. Based on concepts like eventual consistency and multi-version concurrency control, and borrowing ideas from distributed version control systems and cloud-scale databases, the Oak architecture is a major leap ahead for Jackrabbit. This presentation describes the Oak architecture and shows what it means for the scalability and performance of modern content applications. Changes to existing Jackrabbit functionality are described and the migration process is explained.
The reality of software systems is that the business needs they intend to service will change over time. So applications must be created that are able to evolve and follow these changing needs.
Welcome to the world where we are building high-volume distributed streaming applications using systems like Apache Flink, Spark and Kafka. Applications that are assumed to run 'forever' never go down.
So what happens if a business need changes? How can you make a streaming application that can evolve without breaking all the downstream applications that depend on it? Roll out the new producers first? Roll out the new consumers first? How do I avoid going down? But wait! Systems like Kafka persist records for weeks; so how do you handle the fact that there can be several different schemas in the Kafka topic at a certain point in time? Can you deploy a new application that reads both formats?
In this presentation Niels Basjes (Avro PMC) will go into the ways bol.com has chosen to handle these effects in a practical way. He will describe how the "Message" format and the schema evolution features of Apache Avro are used in conjuction with Apache Flink to make applications really 'evolvable'.
How do we make sure all applications are able to find the schema specifications, what can we do to ensure schemas stay 'evolvable,' and what were the pitfalls we ran into? Join us and find out.

Lambda architecture on Spark, Kafka for real-time large scale MLhuguk
Sean Owen – Director of Data Science @Cloudera
Building machine learning models is all well and good, but how do they get productionized into a service? It's a long way from a Python script on a laptop, to a fault-tolerant system that learns continuously, serves thousands of queries per second, and scales to terabytes. The confederation of open source technologies we know as Hadoop now offers data scientists the raw materials from which to assemble an answer: the means to build models but also ingest data and serve queries, at scale.
This short talk will introduce Oryx 2, a blueprint for building this type of service on Hadoop technologies. It will survey the problem and the standard technologies and ideas that Oryx 2 combines: Apache Spark, Kafka, HDFS, the lambda architecture, PMML, REST APIs. The talk will touch on a key use case for this architecture -- recommendation engines.
AWS re:Invent 2016: Streaming ETL for RDS and DynamoDB (DAT315)Amazon Web Services
During this session Greg Brandt and Liyin Tang, Data Infrastructure engineers from Airbnb, will discuss the design and architecture of Airbnb's streaming ETL infrastructure, which exports data from RDS for MySQL and DynamoDB into Airbnb's data warehouse, using a system called SpinalTap. We will also discuss how we leverage Spark Streaming to compute derived data from tracking topics and/or database tables, and HBase to provide immediate data access and generate cleanly time-partitioned Hive tables.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Why You Should Replace Windows 11 with Nitrux Linux 3.5.0 for enhanced perfor...SOFTTECHHUB
The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
