Automation or automatic control, is the use of various control systems for operating equipment such as machinery, processes in factories, boilers and heat treating ovens, switching in telephone networks, steering and stabilization of ships, aircraft and other applications with minimal or reduced human intervention. Some processes have been completely automated.
The biggest benefit of automation is that it saves labor, however, it is also used to save energy and materials and to improve quality, accuracy and precision.
In this presentation, Javeed introduces the topic of automation, type of automation and associated trends. His interest area lies in robotic automation systems one example that he cites is building software robots to automate clerical processes in service industry.

Industrial automation is the use of control systems, such as computers or robots, and information technologies for handling different processes and machineries in an industry to replace a human being. It is the second step beyond mechanization in the scope of industrialization.
Increase Quality and Flexibility in Your Manufacturing Process
Earlier the purpose of automation was to increase productivity (since automated systems can work 24 hours a day), and to reduce the cost associated with human operators (i.e. wages & benefits). However, today, the focus of automation has shifted to increasing quality and flexibility in a manufacturing process. In the automobile industry, the installation of pistons into the engine used to be performed manually with an error rate of 1-1.5%. Presently, this task is performed using automated machinery with an error rate of 0.00001%.
Advantages of Industrial Automation
Lower operating cost: Industrial automation eliminates healthcare costs and paid leave and holidays associated with a human operator. Further, industrial automation does not require other employee benefits such as bonuses, pension coverage etc. Above all, although it is associated with a high initial cost it saves the monthly wages of the workers which leads to substantial cost savings for the company. The maintenance cost associated with machinery used for industrial automation is less because it does not often fail. If it fails, only computer and maintenance engineers are required to repair it.

Industrial automation is currently employed across a myriad of industries with automated systems doing everything from performing manufacturing tasks to operating an ATM. The level of complexity and human interaction with an automated system varies by application. While there are countless applications of industrial automation solutions, nearly all fall into 1 of 3 automation categories: fixed, programmable, and flexible. Here is a little more about each of these types of industrial automation.

Ekeeda - Mechatronics Engineering - Introduction to MechatronicsEkeedaPvtLtd
Mechatronics Engineering is a program in engineering which combines the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. It concentrates mainly on modeling, sensors, controllers, and real-time computer interfacing.
This program is developed due to demand from industries for an engineer with multi-disciplinary skills. Mechatronics engineers have to design, construct, and run production lines and automated processes with their skills, much like a production engineer but in a different field. This a field for students who have an interest in using computers and designing things. They should also be curious about how things work and what can be done to enhance them. They should be satisfactory in observing design and doing something with it. Ekeeda offers Online Mechatronics Engineering Courses for all the Subjects as per the Syllabus.
In this presentation, Asheesh introduces the concept of automation and associated trends. Having gained knowledge on algorithms such as the one for Natural Language Processing, he intends to apply that learning on IT automation and robotics.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

AUTOMATION
2. INTRODUCTION
Automation or automatic control is the use of various control systems for
operating equipment such as machinery , processes in factories , boilers and
heating treating ovens , switching in telephone networks , steering and
stabilization of ships ,aircraft and other application with minimal or reduced
human intervention .Some processes have been completely automated.
The biggest benefit of automation is that it saves labor however , it is also used
to save energy and materials to improve quality ,accuracy and precision.
Automation Principle :
1.Understand the existing process
input/output analysis
value chain analysis
charting techniques and mathematical modeling
2. Simplify the process
Reduce unnecessary steps and move
3 Automate the process
Ten strategies for automation and production systems
Automation migration strategy
3. Automation strategies
1. Specialization of operations
2. Combined operations
3. Simultaneous operations
4. Integration of operations
5. Increased flexibility
6. Improved material handling and storage
7. On-line inspection
8. Process control and optimization
9. Plant operations control
10. Computer – Integrated manufacturing
Reasons for automating :To increase labor productivity, to reduce labor cost , to mitigate
the effect of labor shortages, to reduce or remove routine manual tasks ,to improve
worker safety , to improve product safety , to improve product quality , to reduce
manufacturing lead time , to accomplish what cannot be done manually , to avoid the
high cost of not automating.
4. Recent and future trends
Automated retail :The food industry has started to apply automation to the
ordering process . Some restaurants have automated food delivery to
customers tables using a conveyer belt system .
Automated mining : Involve the removal of human labor from the mining
process . The mining industry is currently in the transition towards automation.
Automated video surveillance
Automated highway systems
Automated waste management
Industrial automation: Industrial automation deals primarily with the
automation of manufacturing , quality control and material handling
process . General purpose controllers for industrial include Programmable
logic controllers and computers . One trend is to use of machine vision to
provide automatic inspection and robot guidance functions . Energy
efficiency in industrial processes has a become higher priority.
Industrial automation plays significant role in the next five years because of
following reasons :
5. New Technology directions : Industrial automation can and will generate
explosive growth with technology related with new inflection points-
nanotechnology , MEMS and nanotech sensors(tiny , low-power , low-cost
sensors)which can measure everything and anything, pervasive internet ,
machine to machine(M2M) networking . The future belongs to nanotech ,
wireless everything , and complex adaptive systems.
Software applications : Major new software applications will be in wireless
sensors and distributed peer-to-networks-tiny operating systems in wireless
sensor nodes ,and the software that allows nodes to communicate with each
other as a larger complex adaptive system . That is the wave of the future.
The fully automated factory : The vision of fully automated factories has
already existed for sometimes now- customers orders online , with electronic
transactions that negotiate batch size ,price , color ; intelligent robots and
sophisticated machines smoothly and rapidly fabricate a variety of
customized products on demand.
Large industrial application of automation : Automotive assembly in painting ,
machining and metal processing ,plastics injection molding , forest processing
, robotics , material testing , industrial process control , motion simulation ,
animation , medical equipment.
6. Interest Areas
I have choose this topic because I am interested in industrial automation . I
have good knowledge of electrical actuator application ,programmable
logic controller hardware details , programming PLC by Sematic manager
software. I have the theoretical knowledge I wanted to do it practically .
There is large application of industrial automation in different fields that
motivates me to learn more about this topics . Industrial automation has
changed the way of production systems , automation in the production
systems , manual labor in production systems.
If I got selected then I would like to work on industrial automation using
Programming Logic Controllers used in the industry and also the use of
pneumatics and electro-pneumatics in the in the industrial applications. I
have technical skills . I need a platform opportunity to apply my skills
practically to achieve my success.
If you hire me I won’t think that I am working for your company
instead I will think that I am working for my own company and put my full efforts
and work with zeal and dedication.
