Automated Y-junction co-simulation
The Y-junction is actually a complex component that
sometimes needs refinement for pressure drops or flow
rate distribution computations in the branches. 3D CFD
co-simulation can be used to complements the 1D system
simulation approach in Simcenter Amesim.
The goal is to generate lookup tables for variations in
pressure drop P or flow coefficient Cq with the Y-angle.
Performance variations can be explored manually, or we
can leverage process automation to improve time
efficiency.

HEEDS for process automation
HEEDS drives both Simcenter Amesim and STAR-CCM+ to
automate the co-simulation.
Aim: determine influence of  angle of the Y-junction over
unsteady fluid flow rate in the Y-junction pipe
Parameter variation : angle of Y-junction, 15° ≤ 𝛼 ≤ 180°
in steps of 15° (i.e. 12 designs in total)
Variable studied : pressure drop P at t = 1s, with the fluid
flow Q [L/min] imposed

The goal is to generate lookup tables for variations in pressure drop P or flow coefficient Cq with the Y-angle.
