The document discusses various teachings of Jesus that some considered "hard sayings" because they were difficult to accept or obey. It provides context and commentary for passages where Jesus' disciples, or others, struggled with His words. The document suggests that when physical interests outweigh spiritual priorities, the Lord's teachings seem harsh. It examines sayings around marriage, family relationships, the exclusivity of Christ, and the need to glorify God with one's body and spirit. Ultimately it questions whether any saying of Jesus should prevent obedience, given what He sacrificed to save humanity.
The document discusses the journey of human life from conception to death. It notes that God forms each person in the womb and knows them from the beginning. While children are born sinless, humans later turn away from God and sin by disobeying his commands. The heart is identified as the source of sinful thoughts and deeds. The document warns that all will be judged for their words and actions, so people should remember God while young before facing difficulties in old age.
This document discusses the importance of authority in religious teachings and obedience. It summarizes Jesus' confrontation with religious authorities who questioned his authority, noting he received authority from God. The document argues that religious teachings must have authority from God, not just human leaders, and believers should obey God over human commands. It provides biblical examples of teachings from God that believers must follow regarding morality, sexuality, and using their bodies for righteousness.
The document discusses the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ according to Christian scripture. It provides numerous Bible verses describing how Jesus died by crucifixion, was buried in a tomb, and rose from the dead on the third day, as prophesied. The resurrection is presented as proof that Jesus is the son of God and savior of mankind from sin. The document emphasizes the atoning sacrifice of Jesus' death and importance of faith in his resurrection for salvation.
John the Baptist told people they must bring forth fruits worthy of repentance by changing their conduct. True repentance requires more than just saying you follow Abraham; it means turning from sinful deeds and doing works that show obedience to God. The Bible lists sins like drunkenness, stealing, lying and sexual immorality that must be repented of through a change in behavior, which could require giving up stolen goods, separating from unlawful relationships, or avoiding situations that promote sin. Jesus warned that failure to repent will lead to spiritual death, so self-examination is needed to prove one's repentance is genuine.

The document discusses what it means to truly know God. It argues that merely claiming to know God is not enough; one must demonstrate knowledge of God through obedience to his commands. True knowledge of God does not come through human wisdom but through faith in Jesus Christ. To know God is to love God and others, as God first loved us. The ultimate purpose of knowing God is to gain eternal life through a relationship with both God the Father and Jesus Christ his son. The document encourages the reader to evaluate whether they truly know God and Jesus or if it is merely an intellectual belief.
The document summarizes a sermon on Galatians chapter 1. It discusses how Paul confronts false teachings that had arisen in the Galatian churches. The false teachers, called "Judaizers", taught that Gentiles had to follow Jewish customs like circumcision to be saved. Paul asserts that salvation comes only through faith in Christ, not by works of the law. He defends his authority as an apostle, noting that he received his gospel directly from Jesus Christ, not from the other apostles. The sermon encourages examining any teachings to ensure they align with the true gospel of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Ephesians 6, Honor your Father and Mother, do not exasperate your children, the Devil's schemes, spiritual battle, our struggle is spiritual, armor of God
This document is a preview for the third foundation stone on saving faith. It discusses key points about faith, including that Jesus came to earth to bring the good news and for people to believe in the gospel. It notes Abraham as the father of faith for believing God's promises. Several questions and answers are provided about faith, such as what it means to believe in Jesus, how faith sets people free from sin, and why the Bible was written to help people believe. The document concludes by listing 12 foundational Christian teachings.
This document provides an overview of Christian discipleship according to the Bible. It discusses how to become a Christian through faith in Jesus Christ and being baptized after hearing the gospel message. The document also addresses erroneous views of salvation, such as believing good works are sufficient or that people are inherently good. The core teachings are that all have sinned, salvation is only through Jesus, and one must hear the gospel, believe, repent of sins, and be baptized to become a Christian disciple.
The document summarizes a sermon on Galatians 3:1-14 about receiving the Holy Spirit through faith rather than works. It discusses how Paul was concerned that some were adding works to the gospel message in Galatia. Paul asks the Galatians how they received the Spirit - through works or faith? The sermon argues we receive the Spirit's indwelling at salvation and empowering at baptism not by works but by simply hearing the word with faith.
The document discusses why someone should be part of a church community rather than just going to church services. It provides definitions of what constitutes a church and gives both biblical and practical reasons for being part of one. The key reasons are that God commands it in the Bible, churches provide community and opportunities for encouragement and spiritual growth, and Jesus loves and sacrificed for the church.
This document summarizes a sermon about the Abrahamic covenant between God and Abraham. The sermon discusses how God initiated the covenant by calling Abraham to leave his home and promised to make him a great nation. God established the covenant unilaterally, promising Abraham land and many descendants. God later affirmed the covenant, changing Abraham's name and promising the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession. The sermon applies the covenant by discussing how it reveals God as a God of relationship, promise, and blessing who invites people into relationship with Him through faith in response to His promises.
This document contains the summary of a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on Galatians 1:1-24. The sermon discusses how some Jewish Christians, called Judaizers, were telling Gentile believers in the Galatian churches that they had to follow Jewish customs like circumcision to be saved. This perverted the gospel message Paul preached, which was that salvation comes through faith in Christ alone, not by works of the law. Paul defends his authority as an apostle who received revelation from Christ, not from the other apostles. He warns that any gospel contrary to the one he preached should be cursed.

This document contains the summary of a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on Ephesians 2:1-10. The sermon was divided into three parts:
1) What we were - Lost sinners are spiritually dead, enslaved by the world and Satan.
2) What God did - God, in His mercy and love, saved us through Christ despite our sinful state. He gave us spiritual life, raised us to sit with Him.

This document discusses the biblical teaching on baptism. It begins by looking at examples in the New Testament of people believing and then being baptized. It establishes that baptism is an outward symbol of inward faith, and an act of obedience, not something that leads to salvation. It examines what Jesus' own baptism demonstrated and his command to his disciples to baptize believers. Baptism represents being spiritually united with Christ in his death and resurrection. The document discusses how baptism in the Bible involved full immersion, not sprinkling. It encourages the reader to consider being baptized publicly as a step of obedience and commitment to following Christ.
The document discusses the Gospel of Christ according to Galatians 4, noting that God sent his Son Jesus to redeem those under the law. It provides context on Judaism as the religion of those who follow the Law of Moses, while Christianity began with Jesus and a new law for all nations. Paul's gospel did not include Old Testament regulations, relying solely on Christ's teachings.

If one desires to worship God, he must do so according to God's revealed will. Anything else will result in rejection. Let us resolve to worship Him in spirit and truth
The document discusses biblical worship and what it means to worship God in spirit and in truth. It explains that true worshipers worship God as Father through Jesus' sacrifice, in any location, focusing on the inner heart. Worshipping in spirit means with full devotion of heart, mind and soul, while worshipping in truth means according to God's character as revealed through Scripture and the Holy Spirit. The document warns against idol worship, as idols are lifeless and dishonor God, while worship should be directed only to the living God.
God commands that we baptize all people, including both adults and children. When we are baptized, the Holy Spirit offers forgiveness of sins, deliverance from death and the devil, and eternal salvation. Baptism joins us to Christ's death and resurrection and assures us that our sins are forgiven for Jesus' sake through faith created by the Holy Spirit working through the water and Word of God in baptism.

The document provides the lesson plan and reading assignments for an upcoming Sunday School lesson on personal revelation. It includes questions about why personal revelation is important, how to study out questions and seek revelation through scripture study, focusing on God rather than worldly things, and teachings about receiving personal revelation. It also provides the lesson plan and reading assignments for the previous Sunday's lesson on the bringing forth of the Book of Mormon, including challenges Joseph Smith faced, the lost manuscript pages, the Witnesses, and why the Church was under condemnation in 1832 when members did not remember the new covenant and the Book of Mormon.
The document discusses the baptism of the Holy Spirit and encourages believers to receive it. It describes how the baptism fully immerses believers in God's Spirit and is accompanied by speaking in tongues. Receiving the baptism builds spiritual foundation, brings God's power, purifies, strengthens faith, helps pray God's will, deepens intimacy with God, and brings revelation and rest. Believers are encouraged to receive this gift to be filled by the Spirit.
This document discusses the baptism of the Holy Spirit and argues that it is something that all believers should experience based on biblical examples. It defines the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a full immersion in God's Spirit that is accompanied by speaking in tongues, as evidenced in Acts. It says the baptism of the Holy Spirit is necessary to receive God's power, help purify believers, build faith, and pray according to God's will. The document encourages readers to desire and receive this experience.
The document summarizes a passage from Acts describing extraordinary miracles performed through Paul, including healings and exorcisms. Handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched Paul's body were able to heal people and cast out demons. It then discusses how some Jewish exorcists unsuccessfully tried to copy Paul, and how this led many in Ephesus to believe and publicly confess and destroy books of magic. The word of the Lord was growing mightily as a result.
The Church refers to those who have been called out by God from darkness into His light. It is a spiritual body made up of believers, with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. The mission of the Church is to preach the gospel to the world, as Jesus was sent by the Father to preach the gospel. When Jesus breathed on the disciples after His resurrection, it was a symbolic passing of the Holy Spirit to them and signified their new birth, just as God breathed life into Adam. The Church was birthed on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon the believers.

The wonder? and wonder! of water in the Word of God
Introduction-
I. A Pretext- "water"
II. The Subtext of “water”
III. The Context of “water”
IV. Application
1. Christ's first and foremost message after appearing to the people at the temple of Bountiful was to give power and instruction to his disciples to baptize the people. He commanded them to go down into the water and baptize in his name those who repented of their sins.
2. The document outlines the doctrinal basis of missionary work as helping people receive salvation through coming unto Christ by faith, repentance, baptism, and enduring to the end. It emphasizes inviting others to come unto Christ.
3. Nephi's teachings on the doctrine of Christ focus on faith, repentance, baptism by water and fire/Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end in following Christ's example as
The second baptism that God has for His children is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This is the 5th foundation stone in this teaching series. How does God display His power in your life? Which gift of the Holy Spirit have you received?
This document defines evangelism and the role of evangelists. It discusses how Jesus gave gifts to the church, including evangelists, to equip believers and bring unity in Christ. All believers are called to preach the gospel and share their faith like Jesus and the early evangelists did. The gospel message is of peace through Jesus' reconciling work on the cross. Believers each have talents given by God and a role to play in fulfilling the Great Commission to preach to all nations.
The document discusses the differences between the Old and New Covenants established by God. It explains that the Old Covenant, which included the 10 Commandments given to Moses, was replaced by the New Covenant initiated by Jesus Christ through his death on the cross. The 10 Commandments and other Old Covenant laws were nailed to the cross and are no longer binding, as Christians are under the New Covenant established by Jesus, which focuses on faith, forgiveness of sins, and having God's laws written on believers' hearts.

The document discusses laying hands on believers to impart the Holy Spirit. It provides several questions and answers on this topic:
1. The Holy Spirit does not come automatically when one becomes a believer, as evidenced by Acts when believers had hands laid on them to receive the Spirit.
2. The best time to impart the Holy Spirit through laying on of hands is after water baptism, as was done in Acts.
3. When a believer receives the Holy Spirit, there is evidence such as speaking in tongues or prophesying. Spiritual gifts are given to both new and mature believers, and are important for strengthening individuals and the church.
4. God gives gifts through His Spirit because, as a
The document summarizes a church sermon that focused on the power of God's word and its ability to lead people to repentance and revival. It notes how in the Bible, the public reading of the Book of Law of Moses to the Israelites led them to weep, repent of their sins, and renew their faith. Similarly, regular reading of scripture can expose our sins and draw us closer to God. The sermon also discusses the inspiration, authority, and interpretation of the Bible.
This document provides an overview of fasting from a Christian perspective. It discusses the primary purposes of fasting according to the Bible as self-humbling and invoking the supernatural. It provides examples of fasting in the Old Testament including examples from Ezra, Jehoshaphat, and the Day of Atonement. It also discusses examples of fasting in the life of Jesus and in the early Christian church. The overall message is that fasting was a regular spiritual practice in the Bible that has been neglected by modern Christians but can provide spiritual benefits when done properly.

In this sixth chapter, the Lamb begins to open the six seals that will send judgment upon the earth. The voice of a creature sounding like thunder invites John to come and see. John sees a white horse. The Lamb opens the second seal and a second creature tells John to come and see and he sees another horse, a red one that was to take peace from the earth. The third seal is opened and John sees a third horse, a black one. When the fourth seal is opened, the voice of the fourth creature says come and see to John. This time he sees a pale horse whose name is Death and Hades. When the fifth seal was opened, John saw under the altar the souls of those who were slain for the word of God. They asked how long before the Lord would avenge their blood. We are told that they were given white robes and they were told to rest awhile until their fellow servants and brethren should be killed. The sixth seal is opened and there is a great earthquake, the sun becomes black as sackcloth, the stars of heaven fell unto the earth even as the fig tree casts her green figs when she is shaken by a mighty wind. The figurative language continues to tell John what is going to happen after this sixth seal was opened. The final paragraph in this chapter tells us that the great day of the Lamb's wrath has come. Study this chapter and see what is revealed to the apostle John for our benefit.

One of the elders says there is someone and identifies him, A description follows of the actions taken by the individual and those of the four creatures and twenty four elders that were there. There are prayers described and a new song is sung by the large number of individuals there. The individual who is worshipped is noted at thye end of the chapter.

The second local assembly was commended by the Lord for the little strength that they had and the fact that they had kept His word and not denied His name. The third assembly was lukewarm, their works being neither cold nor hot. The Lord considered this to be a sickening condition. They saw themselves as being rich and not needing anything. The Lord gave them the guidance they needed to follow. Two of the churches were told to repent. The Lord reminded them that He rebuked and chastened those who He loved. Those who overcome would be given the opportunity to sit in the Lord's throne. As in every letter, the Lord reminds them to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
The Revelation Chapter 2 Working Copy .docxFred Gosnell
The beginning of the Lord's letters to the seven churches in Asia. In chapter two the Lord addresses the first 4 churches. One was faithful to the Lord even though they were persecuted and poor. They were told to be faithful unto death. One was commended for a number of things they had done, but were criticized for leaving their first love. One had been somewhat faithful even though they lived where Satan's seat was. However, there were those among them who held the doctrine of Balaam and the teachings of the Nicolaitans. The last one was commended because their love, faith and patience had increased. Unfortunately, they had allowed a false prophetess to teach immorality and idolatry. These three were all told to repent by the Lord.

Notes on Chapter one of the Revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave to Him to show to His servants which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His messenger unto His servant John. John addressed the Revelation to the seven churches that were in Asia at the time.
THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST Intro.docxFred Gosnell
Introduction to a study of the Revelation of Jesus Christ using bible passages from Old Testament prophets to understand the figurative, apocalyptic language Jesus provided to the apostle John in writing the book. Noting the internal evidence in the book and statements of other apostles to show the early date for its production and its reference to the destruction of Jerusalem. These conclusions are not original to me having been published by others such as Foy Wallace whose work I refer to throughout where I agree with it.
Some Bible Facts About The Church Jesus Built.docxFred Gosnell
This document provides information about the church that Jesus built according to the Bible. It states that the church is called by various names in the Bible and was built by Jesus, purchased by his blood, and built upon him. Members of the church are called disciples, believers, saints, and Christians. A local church has elders, deacons, evangelists, and members who love God and each other. The document outlines what is required to enter the church, such as belief, repentance, confession, and baptism. It provides details on baptism and its significance. It also summarizes the practices and unity of the early church and states that the same church exists today for those who follow its teachings and example.
Life after death according to the Bible. Jesus as the faithful witness went through everything we do in life. When He died, He went to Hades according to Acts 2 like everyone else. This lesson examines that process. This translation into Telugu of the original lesson was done by Manohar Babu P to whom we are grateful.
Jesus has provided us with a pattern to follow in the words He supplied by the Holy Spirit to the inspired writers of the New Testament. We must follow His pattern in what we do in order to be faithful to Him. If we do not follow His pattern, we will not be what or who He intended. He will not recognize us nor accept what we have done. Jesus will judge us by that pattern of sound words that He supplied as He said in John 12:48. This lesson shows that.
This is the third lesson in a series about Jesus and the guidance He has given us. The first lesson is the Faithful Witness which is Jesus. He is the Creator and He came here in the flesh to save us. As the faithful witness He went through everything in the flesh that we experience, yet did not sin. He has provided in His New Testament what was witnessed by Him and we can depend upon what He says. The second lesson is Being Faithful Unto Death. Jesus provided all of the guidance His disciples need to be faithful to Him until they die. This third lesson looks at what Jesus has provided to us about what happens when we die, where we go, and the fact that we continue to live even though our body is in the grave. Jesus being the Creator and the faithful witness can be depended upon by every human being to have provided reliable information on life after death,
A study of being faithful unto death as Jesus tells the church at Smyrna, Jesus being the faithful witness who has been through what we experience is the only one who can tell us how to be faithful unto death This lesson includes some of the guidance He provided us.
A lesson about Jesus as the Faithful Witness based on Jesus coming here in the flesh and experiencing what we experience in the weakness of the flesh yet not committing any sins. Scriptures noting His resurrection as proof of everything He said to be true. Scriptures that express what He will use as the standard of judgment of all accountable people.
A study of who Jesus is according to the Old Testament and the New Testament. His life on this earth was short even though His goal was monumental, to seek and save that which was lost. He accomplished His goal by paying the price for our sins which we as sinners could not pay. Take a little time to learn about our Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ.
Jesus only built one church which is a spiritual body. In the New Testament we find that the Christians guided by inspired apostles assembled together as local assemblies or churches in order to accomplish the work the Lord gave them to do. That simple arrangement resulted in those local churches preaching the gospel throughout the whole world as the Lord commanded to be done. These slides are about those local assemblies and suggest that the Lord has not changed this arrangement.
In 3 sentences:
Jesus told Peter that he would build his church upon the rock of Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. However, the church is actually built upon Christ himself as the cornerstone, not upon any man. The church began on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came and Jesus added the first converts to his kingdom/church, which he continues to build today by adding Christians to it.

1. We can know the Lord authorizes
something to be done in three ways:
Direct Statement, i.e. “It is
written ..” /Express Command,
Precept, etc
Example (Apostolic, Holy Spirit
Approved)
Necessary Inference or Unavoidable
Conclusion
1
2. There are two kinds of authority
SPECIFIC – That is when God in His word specifies
the instructions to be obeyed.
GENERIC – That is when God in His word only
supplies general instructions to be obeyed.
In order to obey God, we cannot make His specific
instructions generic, nor can we make His generic
instructions specific. To do so would change God’s
directions to us. We have no authority to do that.
2
AUTHORITY
3. Examples of generic & specific authority from the OT
Gen 6:14-16 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms
shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and
without with pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which thou
shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three
hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the
height of it thirty cubits.
16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit
shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt
thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third
stories shalt thou make it. KJV
3
4. “Make” is a generic term. Noah had
authority to use whatever tools necessary
to make the Ark.
“Gopher wood” was a specific kind of
wood. Noah could not use oak, pine,
shittim, cedar, etc. He had no authority to
change God’s specific instructions
regarding the kind of wood to use in
making the Ark.
4
5. God specified the dimensions of the Ark.
Noah had no authority to change them. To
do so would have shown a lack of faith.
God specified one window with its
dimensions that could be opened (Gen 8:6),
one door in the side of the Ark and 3
stories.
Noah had no authority to change any of
these specified directions. To be faithful to
God, he had to do exactly as God specified. 5
6. Num 19:2-3 2 This is the ordinance of the law
which the Lord hath commanded, saying, Speak
unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a
red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish,
and upon which never came yoke: 3 And ye shall
give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may
bring her forth without the camp, and one shall
slay her before his face: KJV
Again, God’s specific instructions were to be
obeyed. No changes were allowed to be made.
6
7. Ex 25:10-11 10 And they shall make an ark
of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall
be the length thereof, and a cubit and a
half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a
half the height thereof. 11 And thou shalt
overlay it with pure gold, within and
without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt
make upon it a crown of gold round about.
Another example of God’s specific
instructions that could not be changed. 7
8. Results of changing God’s specifics
Lev 10:1-2 1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of
Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put
fire therein, and put incense thereon, and
offered strange fire before the Lord , which he
commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire
from the Lord , and devoured them, and they
died before the Lord . KJV Note Lev 16:12
There are serious consequences if God’s specific
instructions are not followed.
8
9. Num 20:8 Take the rod, and gather thou the
assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother,
and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it
shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth
to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give
the congregation and their beasts drink.
Num 20:11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with
his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water
came out abundantly, and the congregation drank,
and their beasts also. KJV
Num 20:12 ….And the Lord spake unto Moses and
Aaron, Because ye believed me not….
9
10. Note in the previous slide that God had
given Moses and Aaron specific instructions
to speak to the rock to get water out of it.
Instead of speaking to the rock, Moses
smote it. Water came out, but God was not
pleased. He noted that Moses and Aaron
did not believe Him when they failed to do
what He specified.
Because of this disobedience, neither
Moses nor Aaron entered the promised 10
11. Examples of generic & specific authority from the
NT
Matt 28:19-20 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am
with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
Amen. KJV
11
12. “Go” is a generic term. Any means to “go”
is allowed by God. Whether walking, riding
a donkey, a chariot, a plane, car train, etc.
is allowed. God gives us the authority to
choose the best way to obey.
“Teach” is a generic term. God gives us the
authority to choose the best way to
“teach”. Writing in the sand, oral, written,
PowerPoint, etc. We are free to choose.
12
13. Who are we to teach? God specifies “all
nations”. We cannot teach only one
nationality, one color, one gender, etc.
Baptism is specified by God which is
immersion in water for the remission of sins
and is done by the authority of the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit.
Sprinkling, or pouring as baptism is a
change to God’s specific instruction and is
consequently, not acceptable to God. 13
14. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all
the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature. KJV
Again, we see that “go” is a generic term.
Into “all” of the world is a specific term that
includes everywhere on the globe.
What to preach is specified and it must be “the
gospel” as recorded in the NT. Not our opinion or
the doctrine and commandments of men.
“Every creature” is also specified. We cannot limit
who we preach the gospel to. 14
15. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship
him must worship him in spirit and in truth. KJV
We do not get to choose how to worship God. Our
worship must be spiritual as opposed to carnal
and according to the truth as specified in the NT.
To worship in any other way is to make it vain.
Matt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me,
teaching for doctrines the commandments of
men. KJV
15
16. The inspired apostles worshipped God on the
specified first day of the week as recorded in Acts
2:1, 42 and Acts 20:7.
Worship consisted of the Lord’s Supper as Jesus
established in Luke 22:17-20 and Paul taught the
Corinthians in 1 Cor 11:23-34.
Taking up a collection for the saints as Paul
instructed in 1 Cor 16:1-2 and 2 Cor 9:6-7.
Note that the funds collected and used were “for
the saints.”
16
17. Singing and prayer were part of the worship per 1
Cor 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit,
and I will pray with the understanding also: I will
sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the
understanding also. KJV
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making
melody in your heart to the Lord; KJV
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in
all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts to the Lord. KJV
17
18. “Singing” is a specific kind of music, which
is without instruments. To add instruments
violates what God has specified in His word.
Singing and praying is to be done with the
understanding and with the spirit, that is
the individuals spirit.
An individual might be unable to sing or
speak physically, but they can still worship
in their spirit which is what God listens to.
18
19. Of course preaching the gospel is part of
worship in spirit and in truth as we see Paul
doing on the first day of the week in Acts
20:7
Reading of scripture would also be included
as Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:10.
According to Hebrews 10:24-26 Christians
are not to willfully forsake or neglect
assembling together.
19
20. An examination of what the inspired
apostles taught reveals that they routinely
told their listeners what they needed to do
to be saved from their sins.
By examining what they taught, we can
ascertain what we must do to be saved.
God is no respecter of persons.
Consequently, what He required of those in
the first century, He requires of us today.
20
21. What Must I Do To Be Saved?
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the
Holy Ghost.
Acts 8:36-37 36 And as they went on their way, they came
unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is
water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37 And Philip
said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is
the Son of God.
Acts 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue,
believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the
Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
21
AUTHORITY
22. From these examples, we learn the following:
One must first hear the gospel as the Corinthians did.
One must believe that Jesus is the Son of God as Phillip
told the eunuch.
One must confess that belief as the eunuch did.
One must repent as Peter told those on Pentecost.
One must be baptized (immersed) in water for the
remission of their sins.
Finally, one must be faithful to the Lord until death per
Revelation 2:10.
These are not man-made requirements. They are specified
by the Lord in His word as taught by His inspired apostles.
22
23. By learning the Lord gives us Specific and
General instructions in His word, we can
know if He has given us the authority to
choose how to accomplish His commands
or if we have no choice but to do exactly
what He commanded.
We cannot change His specific instructions
to Generic or His Generic ones to Specific.
To do so is to disobey Him. See 2 John 9.
23
