SECTION OUTLINE FIVE (REVELATION 5)
John continues his description of his heavenly vision. There is a seven-
sealed scroll held by someone.
I. THE OBSERVATION (5:1): John sees a seven-sealed scroll in
the right hand of the one who sat on the throne.
The same individual referred to in Rev 4:3 is on the throne
The one holding the scroll has sealed it with His seal. The
seal protects the document from being opened and read
by anyone it wasn’t addressed to.

Is 29:11 Isaiah encountered sealed info
Dan 8:26 Daniel also

II. THE PROCLAMATION (5:2): A strong messenger asks if anyone
is able to break the seals and open the scroll.
He uses the word “worthy” or “deserving” to do so. The
sealer of the document must have specified what was
worthy or deserving and the seal protected the document.
III. THE INVESTIGATION (5:3): An unsuccessful threefold search is
made.
A. In heaven (5:3a)
B. On earth (5:3b)
C. Under the earth (5:3c)
The search is for a man. None is found to break the seal,
open the scroll and announce what it said.
III. THE LAMENTATION (5:4): John weeps over this. Why was he
weeping?
John knew there was important information in the scroll
and now knew there was no one who could access it. He
knew that scrolls were written on both sides of the
2
parchment even though the outside of this one where the
seal was had no writing on it.
IV. THE CONSOLATION (5:5c): One of the elders identifies the
lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David is indeed worthy
to do this.
The word translated “prevailed” (#3528) here should be
“overcome” to agree with what Jesus said He did in
