Australia has a federal parliamentary democracy with three key factors determining its government: leadership, legislature, and citizen role. The Queen is head of state while the prime minister leads the government. Parliament consists of the House of Representatives and Senate. Citizens over 18 are required to vote and choose members of parliament, with the prime minister coming from the leading party. Citizens enjoy freedoms but do not directly elect the head of state or prime minister.
