2. For my audience research questionnaire I made sure I targeted the questions specifically to those who
liked the indie genre. I tried to pick people before I filmed them who I knew liked the genre, but wanted
to ask other people too who liked other genres to vary my research and see what they’d answer. This
would narrow down my research and make me gain more information that would generally help me to
get ideas for my music video.

In my VoxPox I made I asked 5 girls and 4 boys my questions.
The average age was 17 ¾ . Male
The average score out of 10 for liking the indie genre was 7. Female
The majority of people asked claimed that the typical clothes people
wore in their indie music video were clothing such as skinny jeans, smart shoes and denim.
The most popular props mentioned in an indie music genre were instruments.
I have taken all this information into account, however I have ignored the ideas of using instruments as
props as not all indie music videos use these, it depends on the context of the song and the band. Also, I
did not want to just copy other conventions of indie music videos although I would have to use some so
that the genre was clear and recognisable to my audience.
The majority of my audience also stated that they would prefer to see a fragmented
narrative. I think it is good that they have said this as this is what I want to do and it shows
that this research is suited to what I plan to do.

I think my audience mentioned these typical bands rather than discreet unknown indie bands
such as Alt-J who are just becoming popular because these indie bands are quite popular in
the charts and on radio stations/music channels.
4. Structure
I also wanted to ask my audience whether they’d prefer to see a fragmented
narrative, straight-forward clear narrative or no narrative at all in an indie music video
so that I could get more idea of what people will like to watch. I think this information
helped as if I didn’t ask this question and went ahead with a structure that I guessed
people liked, they may not want to watch it and my music video would be
unsuccessful and unpopular.
This data has definitely helped because now I
know I can still go ahead with my original plan
of doing a fragmented narrative rather than
a clear straight-forward one, which will
help make my video stand out more No
