This document defines key astronomy vocabulary terms: Rotation is turning around an axis or center point. The solar system includes the Earth, moon, planets, and objects that circle the sun. Orbit describes a planet or moon circling another body like the sun. Revolution is completing one orbit. Heliocentric refers to the theory that the Earth and planets revolve around the stationary sun at the center of the universe.
This is a PowerPoint that is about Exploring Earth Science. This is geared towards 3rd grade students. This is very picture heavy so it will easily keep the attention of young children. It is also full of helpful information

3. Solar System
The Earth is part of our solar
system.

4. Orbit
The planets orbit around the
sun.

5. Revolution
For every year the Earth
makes one revolution around
the Sun.
Each time a
planet or moon
completes an
orbit around
something.
7. Vocabulary Week One
• Rotation: Turning around, or spinning, on an axis,
or center point.
• Solar System: The Earth, Moon, other planets and
objects, that circle around our Sun.
• Orbit: When a planet or moon circles around
another body, like the sun.
• Revolution: Each time a planet or moon completes
an orbit around something.
• Heliocentric: The astronomical theory that the
Earth and planets revolve around the Sun and that
the Sun is stationary and at the center of the
universe.
