A-ANALYZE LEARNERS
First graders. Ages 6-7

S- STATE OBJECTIVES
Students will recite the months of the year utilizing graphic calendars and songs within one
week at 100% accuracy.
S- SELECT 3 M’S
Methods- Group sing-along and dance, discussion about their favorite months and times of year. Oral
recital of months.
Media
-Youtube Video – 12 Months of the Year by The Learning Station
-Photo slideshow (PowerPoint)
-Seasonal Calendar
Materials- Computer, SMARTboard, Internet access, PowerPoint slideshow.
U-UTILIZE MATERIALS
-Show YouTube video to students. Encourage students to sing along and even dance!
-Show PowerPoint with different photos of things related to that month. (example: snow in January,
Halloween in October)
-Use seasonal Calendar to show how the different months transition into different seasons.
R- REQUIRE LEARNER PARTICIPATION
Students will be encouraged to sing along with the songs and participate in the discussions
about the months of the year. The instructor will ask students questions such as
“What month is your birthday in?”
“What month comes after ….?”
“What would be an activity you could do in the month of …. And why?”
E- EVALUATE AND REVISE
-Every student should participate in the discussion. Make note of those who actively participate and ask
students who do not participate. This evaluation will take place continuously all week.
-Put students in groups and ask them to talk about the months of the year. Observe what they say.
-By the end of the week have the students recite the months of the year as a group, then individually in
front of the class.
-Ask students about the media! Did they like the song? What was their favorite picture in the
PowerPoint, ETC.
