LANGUAGE IS POWER
W
hether you’re just starting to learn English or moving toward mastery
of the language, the Atlanta English Institute can empower you to realize
your dreams. Communications specialists since 1993, we offer a full range
of ESL classes, private tutoring, and complete test preparation. AEI has become
a community of learning, welcoming students from all over the world—from Colombia
to Korea, from Ghana to the Ukraine. We’ve helped our students find their voices,
nourish their visions, and feel at home. We invite you to join us. You’ll be glad you did!
Our language instructors—all of them native speakers and experienced English/ESL
teachers by vocation—carefully tailor their teaching to each student. Here, no one is
a number; instead, each person is an individual. Celebrating the diversity of our student
body, we’re mindful of the many cultures among us, and we honor the reality that
each student learns differently—at his or her own pace, and in very distinctive ways.
With all of our classes limited to twelve students, you’re certain to receive the kind
of individual attention that makes learning effective, joyful and memorable.
In teaching language, we instill a solid foundation in grammar and vocabulary,
but then progress to teaching communication. We help students feel comfortable using
authentic American English in real-life situations: the university or high school classroom,
the workplace, the professional world. Understanding that an integral part of language
learning is cultural awareness, built into the curriculum are opportunities for students
to experience many aspects of contemporary American life.
Our multi-media language lab and dedicated student computers allow students access
to the Internet and up-to-the-minute software. For students preparing for TOEFL, GRE,
GMAT, and USMLE exams, we offer a computer lab and state-of-the-art test preparation
software. Keeping in mind the myriad challenges of the new century, we employ the
latest in learning technology.
Finally, while our academic courses are both rigorous and practical, we serve the
whole student—spirit as well as mind. We don’t just teach subjects; we teach students
to be lifelong learners.

STUDENT BODY
Having very different backgrounds and goals, students from all over the world attend AEI.
The majority of our student body are professionals who already have undergraduate
or advanced degrees from their home countries. Others would like to attend university
or graduate school in the United States after they complete their English studies.
These students often take both English and Test Preparation courses. AEI also helps
students such as businessmen who are already settled in the U.S.; yet, they want to
improve their English in order to expand their opportunities.
In a word: expect to meet someone you wouldn’t otherwise meet!
Our former students and graduates are successfully pursuing their careers or further
education in the U.S. or their home country.
Whatever your language needs, AEI can help you realize your dreams. At the same time,
opportunities to meet new people and learn about different cultures abound!
FACULTY AND STAFF
To hire only the very best teachers is not only our policy but also our practice.
Thus, our students can expect teachers who are both professional and experienced.
All our ESL instructors are native speakers of English. Our minimum requirement for
teachers is two- to three-years teaching experience and a relevant baccalaureate degree.
However, the average number of years of teaching experience is twelve years and
more than 90 percent of our faculty have advanced degrees and hold ESL certificates.
Adding to our qualifications, teachers and staff regularly participate in professional
development training. By having continuing education as a requirement, we aim to keep
both staff and instructors abreast of the latest research and best practices relevant to
their field.
Within the framework of AEI’s curriculum and standards, instructors have liberty to
creatively develop lesson plans. They are encouraged to master their discipline and to
incorporate the latest materials, technologies and methodologies.

ATLANTA: CITY OF POSSIBILITIES
Over the past twenty years, Atlanta has become the jewel of the South. The growth
of the State of Georgia and the City of Atlanta has been phenomenal! Businesses from
all over the world have made the city and surrounding communities their home base.
Prosperity has sprung up in every community!
Along with community and industry growth, the area has developed many recreational
attractions and events. Lake Lanier Islands, for example, provides outdoor boating,
swimming, and camping facilities as well as golf and vacation amenities.
Besides the recreation areas, Atlanta is full of cultural events and centers. From theaters,
the High Museum, major convention and sporting facilities (hockey, basketball, football,
and major league baseball), to seasonal local community festivals, there is no lack
of community events. Each session, all our Intensive English courses generally include
a field trip to a cultural event or destination. Previous outings have been to Fernbank
Museum of Natural History, CNN Headquarters, Stone Mountain Park, and to an IMAX movie.
Atlanta has not lost its southern charm or small-city roots. If you are considering a move
in order to study and would like to experience a city which is both large and small,
both American and international, with plenty of things to do, then Atlanta is the place!
