This document provides instructions for a two-part assignment: 1) Students must write a one paragraph (4-8 sentence) biography of themselves in third person that includes their first name, grade, and creative description, but no private details. 2) Students must take and edit a close-up self portrait photo in their school uniform by itself without others. The photo and biography are due as email attachments by a deadline. Examples of good and bad self portraits are provided.

1. ASSIGNMENT:
1. In-class: Write a one-paragraph (4-8
sentences, NO MORE OR LESS!)
biography for yourself.
2. Homework: Take a photograph of
yourself, and edit/crop it.

2. Biography Content:
Write a one-paragraph (4-8 sentence) biography for
yourself. This will go on the website. Your
biography MUST include the following information:
1. Your first name
2. Your grade
3. A description of yourself (in 3rd person point of view)
that you believe captures who you are as a person. Be
creative! Share only what you want others to read.

3. Biography Content:
Your biography can NOT include...
1. Your last name
2. Any private information (where you live, etc.)
3. Information about people other than yourself.
Other notes: Your biography can be funny, but don’
t make it so silly that it reflects badly on our
newspaper (or yourself, for that matter!)

4. Photograph:
Your biography must include a NEWLY TAKEN
photo of yourself. This is a self-portrait assignment.
Guidelines:
1. Your photo should represent who you are. Be creative!
2. You should be wearing a school uniform in your photo.
3. Your photo should be well-edited according to the rubric.
4. Your photo should be cropped so we can clearly see who
you are. (close crop).
5. There should not be anyone else in your photo.

Suzan is a freshman who loves
music so much that she actually
wired her formal uniform for
convenient listening. She enjoys
writing about all the music and
theatre productions going on at
KIS. Her other favorite things are
puppies, ramen, and ...

6. DUE:
Your original photo, edited photo, and paragraph
are due by EMAIL
BEFORE class starts on Wednesday.
Title your email “Journalism Assignment”.
Paste your bio in the body of the email.
Attach your images as two jpeg or png files.
