INDTRODUCTION
The museum as an instrument of popular education is a
twentieth century phenomenon. unit very recently museums
were private clubs for the intellectually privilege and exhibits
were arranged in such a way as to be almost meaningless
unscientifically and inartistically. All this has changed modern
museums are cultural centre of the community museums play a
grate part in the education of school children as they bring home
to them much more vividly than any lectures, the discovers of the
past and various developments that have taken place in many
fields of science and technology.
Secondary education commission (1952-53) emphasized
the use of museums in the teaching of social science. Museums as
the word implies, the temple of muse, is intended to be a place
for study. The social science museum plays an important role in
imparting instruction in the social science. Museums have great
educative value. These contain no reading materials which
represents valuable information concerning the past periods,
events, persons etc… are presented in the form of real objects,
pictures drawing etc… It provides insight into how people lived,
how society has progressed and how science has developed since
time immortal.

Objectives
• To form within the classroom an embryonic community
dedicated to the usual occupations reflected in the school
life of adults.
• Visual instruction and experimentation.
• To stimuli enthusiasm for study and research among both
teachers and students.
• To stimulate interest, co-operation and participation in the
cultural activities and scientific research conducted by the
larger museum.
Type of museum.
1. Public museum:
Containing different material or developmental
stages of society.
2. School museum
Containing articles prepared by students. School
museum should have separate section for social science.
It encourages “learning by doing”. School museum
motivate students to prepare objects for school museum
and satisfy their urge for constructions and creativity.
Importance of Museum
1. The museum can procure and maintain various materials
that could collectively museums can procure used in
classroom teaching
2. It makes the teaching of social science lively and provides
direct experience
3. It helps to in culate values such as national integration and
international understanding.
4. It helps reality to teaching and makes children active. It
encourages curiosity and self education.
5. It increases power for thinking, imagination and creativity
among students.
Points while using a social science museum
• Museum should be well arranged
• Articles should be securely placed.
• The title and the date should be mentioned on the object
along with the information about in procurement
• Children should not be allowed to touch the object
• A list of all the objects placed in the museum should be
maintained.
• The exhibits should be carefully cleaned and handled with
care.
Conclusion
Museum are recreation centers. It enhances the education
field. These museum contain non reading material which presents
valuable information concerning the past periods events personal
things and happenings in the form of real objects, pictures,
drawing etc.., museum provides information on how people
lived how society has progressed, how science has developed
since time immemorial. These museums add reality to teaching
and make children active. It encourages self educations and
curiosity.
