This document contains instructions for 5 separate assignments related to ethics, diversity, and organizational culture. Assignment 1 asks students to analyze differences between ideas of philosophers like Rousseau, Locke and Hobbes and modern democracies. Assignment 2 involves responding to inappropriate workplace comments and discussing ethical and legal implications. Assignment 3 has students analyze alternatives and implications related to a case study on discrimination. Assignment 4 examines organizational culture and inclusion at Sherwood Manufacturing. Assignment 5 is researching diversity at different organizations and comparing their cultures.
Paper InstructionsYou are to research and write a 5-8 page paper.docxjakeomoore75037
Paper Instructions
You are to research and write a 5-8 page paper (excluding title page and reference pages) on one of the topics listed below. The paper should incorporate references to the course material and a minimum of 6 scholarly sources. The paper should be typed, double spaced using APA formatting, and attached as a file. Your writing should display knowledge, analysis, evaluation, and application of the material you have studied in the course. See the document called “Final Paper Expectations” for a breakdown of the structure and expectations.
As you consider the topic you want to write about, ask yourself what supporting materials from the course, from your personal experiences, and from your researched resources you could bring together to bring the topic to life.
Topics to select from are:
Consider how Martin Buber’s theory of communication plays out in the world. Take into consideration each of the three types of relationships (I-It, I-You, I-Thou).
Abraham Maslow developed his theory of the “Hierarchy of Needs.” How do people use social media to meet their needs?
Discuss your thoughts and the thoughts of the experts about the four types of attachment styles.
Discuss the impact of the media on the development of gender identity.
What are the impacts of long-distance relationships on interpersonal communication?
Martin Luther King, Jr.
(Quotable Quote)
is quoted as saying, “It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality.” What aspects of interpersonal communication apply to this sentiment?
According to Anthony Robbins
(Quotable Quote),
“The quality of your life is the quality of your communication.” How so?
Module 2 told us that “the self arises in communication with others.” Discuss.
Before writing this paper, observe yourself for several days, and whenever you use “you” language, try to rephrase what you said or thought into “I” language. How does that change how you think and feel about what’s happening? How does it affect your interactions with others? Does it make a positive or negative impact? Describe your experiences and then relate your personal findings to what you find in your research.
What labels that you dislike have been applied to you or to groups to which you belong? Explain how the labels affect you. Describe how your experiences relate to what you find in your research.
Who is your prototype, or model, of a listener? Describe what the person does that makes her or him effective? Relate your description to research on listening.
Discuss the differences between differential, assertive, and aggressive communication.
Define and describe what makes a good friend. Describe the investments that are made, how trust, acceptance, and closeness are communicated. How does that compare to what experts say about friends and friendship?
What makes for a successful romantic relationship? Compare your pers.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2 (New International Version)
So often, we are quick to judge our neighbors and others around us. Today's society has allowed us to forget what Christ has taught us: to love thy neighbor. Romans 12:2 is a blueprint that is set forth to show us how each one of us should transform our character and renew our mind. The biblical perspective recognizes the active opposition of a personal adversary. In the business world, we diversify ourselves with others from all walks of life, not knowing that God has placed each of us together for the common good. Thinking back on your workplace, how do you engage with others from other backgrounds? Do you place judgment on others? Do you reflect your views on social media and other blogging components? Is this right?
Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:
Articulate the importance of integrating a Christian worldview with global business practice.

1.2 Discussion: Power Distance (Part A)
Getting Started
This is a two-week discussion. Your initial post is due by the end Workshop One. You will then engage in dialogue with your classmates in at least three discussion threads (one of which is your initial post) and will post a summary of your new knowledge for each of the three discussion threads. While your interactions are not due until the end of Workshop Two, you should be prepared to engage in the discussion throughout both workshops.
For this discussion, you will watch a 10-minute video in which researcher Geert Hofstede explains “power distance,” which is one of six dimensions of national culture that were described in his formative research on culture. From the video and the accompanying PowerPoint presentation, you will discover:
Definition of power distance
How power distance transfers between generations within a society
Differences between cultures characterized by large distance and small power distance
The role of the perception of inequality and hierarchy in power distance
Characteristics of power distance
Components of the power distance index (PDI)
Societal characteristics that can be correlated with the PDI
Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

Assignment 3: Views on Diversity
Pablo believes that diversity is the most important issue in our culture, and that it is greatly underemphasized. On the other hand, Ralph rarely thinks of diversity, except when it is mentioned in the workplace. Monica is sensitized to multicultural issues because her parents are immigrants who still struggle with discrimination after being here for 20 years.
To obtain a cross-section of what people think about diversity, conduct five-minute interviews with three individuals you don't know well, and assess their views on diversity. You have been provided an
Informed Consent
document for the respondents to sign along with verbally consenting to participate in this assignment. This is to enable that the respondents demonstrate a clear understanding of the meaning and purpose of this assignment. While you are expected to use the informed consent form in keeping with ethical practices for data collection, you do not need to submit it to the instructor as part of the assignment.
Ask the respondents the following questions and record their answers:
When you hear the word diversity mentioned in the workplace, in the media, or in casual conversation, what meaning do you assign this term?
Does a particular race, ethnic group, or other minority group come to mind when you think of diversity? Does one of these groups pertain to you?
Do you think the majority of people in our culture:
Respect cultural differences among groups of people.
Show indifference to cultural differences.
Lack respect for cultural differences. Explain each choice.
If you were to make a suggestion about how our culture should handle diversity over the next decade, what would it be?
Compile your responses and write a brief reflection paper (two pages) on your findings. Specifically address the following issues:
What did you discover was the general attitude toward diversity in our culture?
Is diversity more associated with one race, ethnic, or other minority group than with others? If so, explain why this might be the case.
Compare and contrast the respondent's views with your own. How would you answer the same questions?

Task Your task is to follow a conversation in society right now .docxjosies1
Task:
Your task is to follow a conversation in society right now
to which social movements and influential organizations are responding
. "Following a conversation" means examining how different writers define and respond to similar issues, and listening/reading closely for moments where different writers connect, where they overlap, and where they conflict. It also means that you examine
how
different writers enter the conversation (which will require rhetorical analysis) and how those differences impact what they are trying to say.
In order to make sure that your exploration considers differing points of view, we are going to ground your exploration in this unit by focusing on a social movement or an influential organization and an issue that is central to their cause. For example, you could look into conversations related to
social movements
like #MeToo, #BlackLivesMatter, March for Our Lives, or #MMIW. You could look at conversations in the news that involve
influential organizations
, like Planned Parenthood, the Red Cross, the ACLU, and RAICES. The project will ask you to read several sources about a topic that that group cares very much about, think about how different writers take different approaches to the topic, and then look at how the major organization or social movement you chose is responding to that same topic.
The project will ask you to do four things:
Summarize
the specifics of the conversations that you are following, including the main topics/ideas being discussed, the modes being used throughout the conversation, and the context in which the conversation is taking place.
Discuss
the ethos/credibility and varying levels of expertise of groups/people taking part in the conversation,
Analyze
the ways in which your chosen social movement or organization uses writing and rhetoric to facilitate change
Reflect
on what you learned, including how this activity informs your understanding of research in a digital society.
Importantly, this assignment is not a paper: you will complete this project as a series of 4 posts, culminating in a final project reflection. All
5
of these assignments will be collected into one project grade.
Note: while each of these assignments might seem "small" on their own, and will appear separately in the modules, together they make up a paper/project grade and will significantly impact your grade. Therefore it is important that for each post you work to find the best sources you can find, and that you answer the questions on each assignment thoroughly. Also, please edit and revise your posts to the best of your ability, as the quality of your writing will also be graded.
Each post will ask you to look for a different kind of text, each one centered around a social movement, and then the post instructions will give you specific questions to answer. All of the posts ask you to make specific references to the text you are analyzing. Please do not talk in broad terms abou.

Taking a Closer Look at Community: Our last few weeks of readings are focused on different ways of imagining community ties in our increasingly globalized world. These are communities that have global dimensions the readings in our final unit want us to take a closer look at: gender, social networks, political activists, university students, global supply chains. The assignment here is to choose one of the types of community we have looked at: Gender (Lorber, Devor, Blum, Tannen); Social Networks (Gladwell, Friedman); Political Activists (Gladwell, Friedman); University Students (Nathan); Global Supply Chains (Friedman). Choose 2 different articles from this list in order to explore the argument the article makes about how to understand the kind of community it is concerned with.
For each article, you are to write a 2-page summary, focused on the argument the article makes for how we should understand the community it is looking at--and what ties it together. The summary should offer clear explanation of the community the article is looking at. It should also lay out a thorough analysis of the argument, take a look at some of the examples your source uses to better understand the limitations of the argument, and offer a summation of the evidence s/he uses to make his case about how to understand the community it is concerned with (mostly in the form of expert authorities). In other words, this is a summary of a specific community and its real-world complications, in order to best understand the author's argument regarding the community in all of its complexity and complications. So actually much of your attention should be devoted to looking at where the argument or the concerns it speaks to are more complicated than it might at first seem.
The Elements of Summary: As you sit down to summarize your chosen community concept, you want to keep in mind that the main task is to prioritize what you feel to be the most important aspects for understanding the concept. That is the critical thinking aspect of the assignment; it involves making choices about what to include and why. That means you want to examine closely your author's priorities in setting up the key concern, looking at what s/he starts with, where s/he takes the discussion, and where s/he ends it. Certainly, the end of his/her discussion (the concluding remarks) will show us most clearly what s/he wants us to prioritize in engaging with the key concern. But tracking his/her discussion along the way can tell us more about why s/he goes that way and looking back at the introduction can help clarify what he thinks we should initially keep in mind as he sorts through his argument. What this also means is that you want to give some attention to when the author goes in surprising directions or shows us where his concerns or related terms don't work in expected ways.

What Can One Person Do Secondary Research Project Y.docxphilipnelson29183
What Can One Person Do?
Secondary Research Project
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a shareable educational
resource about a particular structural inequality. In it, you will 1) describe the structural
inequality and 2) recommend at least 1 specific action people can take to help disrupt,
dismantle, or otherwise work against that structure. There are 3 major components to this
project: the resource itself, a 2-3 page reflection piece, and a Works Cited. Instructions
for each can be found below.
In doing this assignment, you’ll get the chance to:
• Synthesize information and ideas you’ve come across in the
readings, conversations, and assignments.
• Reflect on how education can be a crucial component of being an
active, engaged member of your community and of society as a
whole.
• Produce a concrete resource that you can put out into the world
about your topic.
Educational Resource Instructions
For the resource itself, I’m giving you a fair amount of freedom. You have to create an
educational resource, but the exact form it takes is really up to you. Some options people
have done in the past:
• Write an editorial/article about your topic that could be submitted
to a newspaper or other periodical. (You don’t have to actually
submit it.)
• Create a brochure about your topic that can be printed and
distributed.
• Create a short zine about your topic that can be printed and
distributed.
• Produce a short podcast or video about your topic.
• Create a blog post (with links for more info) about your topic.
• Create a website about your topic.
• Create an educational board game or video game about your topic.
• Something else that you come up with (and get approved by me)
While you have a lot of freedom for the form of the project, there are certain criteria that
all projects must meet. To get full credit your resource must:
• Be targeted towards a particular audience (likely a particular
group of stakeholders for the issue)—Think about whom you want
to reach. Who is likely to care about the issue if they learned about
it? Who might be willing and able to take action?
o Your target audience should influence the form and
language of the project. For example, you probably
wouldn’t create a video game if your target audience is
Idaho congresspeople (or maybe you would?).
• Contain the following components
1. A short background on the situation. Explain what is going
on, how it’s unequal, and why we should care about it.
2. A description of the communities that are most impacted by
the issue and how they are impacted. This is related to the
previous component; one way to make people care about an
issue is to show them the harm it is causing to a particular
group of people.
3. A description of at least 1 important cultural story or belief
that helps sustain the conditions of inequality. As Schwalbe
argues in Ch. 4—Arresting the Imagination, cul.
Sociology of Mental Health Fall 2015 Exercise 2 Essay Ques.docxlorileemcclatchie
Sociology of Mental Health
Fall 2015
Exercise 2
Essay Questions:
Please respond to THREE of the following questions in essays 1.5 to 2 pages long.
1) In Mad in America, Robert Whitaker argues that the treatment of mental illness is a “prism through which to view a society.” Put another way, he suggests, “Medical treatments for the severely mentally ill inevitably reflect the societal and philosophical values of the day (xv).” For this essay, please
compare and contrast
the dominant paradigm of mental illness treatment in two historical periods discussed in the book. You should consider: the underlying assumptions about the causes of mental illness; the prevailing treatment(s) of the day; how the mentally ill were regarded; and then describe what this tells us about that particular society at that particular time.
2) At the heart of Whitaker’s study is a question: Why do people with mental illness in the United States fare less well than people in poorer countries? Use Mad in America, as well as
the other texts
for our class, to address this question. Ask yourself, why might this be the case? What are the social, cultural and economic features of U.S. society that contribute to this situation? You may want to focus on the three or four most significant factors and explain how they all contribute to this situation.
3) Utilizing Karp’s “In Sickness and in Health” and one other reading from Voices from the Inside,
compare and contrast
caring for a family member with a physical illness to caring for a family member with a mental illness. In what ways are they similar, in what ways are they different? What accounts for the differences? What factors to social perceptions play? Do these differences matter, why or why not? Explain.
4) Karp and Sisson write, “I believe that one of the most important missions of sociology is to give voice…to the experiences of those whose voices and experiences would typically otherwise be blunted, marginalized…or simply ignored. If we want to understand how society works…we need particularly to listen well to the narratives of those who are too often powerless, marginalized, disenfranchised, and stigmatized (p. 4).” What do the narratives presented in Voices From the Inside tell us about how society works? Utilizing at least
two
selections from the book, please identify and discuss at least
two
different lessons these narratives tell us about how society works regarding mental health and illness.
In general, the responses will be evaluated as follows:
1) Each response should be written in an
essay
format (introduction, body and conclusion-writing matters!).
2) Incorporation of
specific examples
from the relevant texts (you should demonstrate that you have a solid grasp of the material by drawing on the texts to support your claim, argument or analysis). If you pull an exact quote from one of our readings, you must include the author’s last name, year of publication and page number. For exam.
Social responsibility includes intercultural competence, knowled.docxsamuel699872
Social responsibility includes intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities, including the workplace. These skills are rated highest as desirable skills among hiring managers.
Intercultural competence includes
:
Knowledge of your own culture and how it has shaped your world view.
Knowledge of significant characteristics of other cultures.
Awareness of differences and similarities in cultures.
Ability to adjust your actions to successfully interact with someone of another culture.
How do we continuously improve our intercultural competence? First, by understanding that intercultural competence is complex, and it requires growing and maturing in three areas: mind set, heart set, and skill set.
Mindset
is the domain where as we learn and engage with others, we recognize similarities and differences. A growth mind set requires self-awareness and cultural awareness.
Heart set
is the domain where we learn to acknowledge, appreciate, and accept cultural differences. There are six dimensions to your heart set:
Self esteem
Self-monitoring
Empathy
Open mindedness
Reserved judgment
Social relaxation
Listening
Skill set
involves our intercultural agility; the ability to adjust your actions to successfully interact with someone of another culture. Specific skills include message skills, appropriate self-disclosure, behavioral flexibility, and interaction management.

Prejudice, Stereotypes, and DiscriminationIn many cases, preju.docxsarantatersall
Prejudice, Stereotypes, and Discrimination
In many cases, prejudice stems from the unknown. As individuals, we tend to migrate toward those who may look like us, act like us, and think like us. As a result, it may be difficult for us to open our minds and embrace those whose values, beliefs, and overall sense of self differ from our own.
For this assignment, compose a paper that is three to four pages in length. In your paper, discuss the impacts of prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination in the context of social psychology. Be sure to address the following points:
1. Define and describe the following terms: prejudice, stereotype, discrimination, and ingroup vs. outgroup. Based on your own experiences in the social world, can you relate to any of these terms? Do you identify with a particular term? Why or why not?
2. Examine the social, cognitive, and societal origins of prejudice and stereotypes. Be sure to include specific information regarding categorization, such as ingroup favoritism and the outgroup homogeneity effect, norms, competition for resources, and social inequalities. Of the categories presented, which do you think are the most significant in our society and in your particular community?
3. Analyze the influences that promote stereotyping, and offer strategies to reduce prejudice. What are the consequences of stereotyping and discrimination? Who does this behavior hurt, and in what ways does it hurt them? Are we inadvertently creating self-fulfilling prophecies in our society? If so, how can we take steps to improve attitudes, judgments, and behaviors?
Your paper must include an introduction, a thesis statement, and a conclusion. Your completed assignment should be three to four pages in length (excluding title and reference pages), include a minimum of three references, and follow APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Carefully review the
Grading Rubric
for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Team 3: United States Business Leader, Laborer and Government Leader (president/legislative member)
Part 1: Although you are all responsible for your own posts, I randomly separated the class into three groups (teams) to focus our discussions and ensure deeper participation into the specific country's perspective on NAFTA. Please follow the sequence below to stay organized with your research and contributions. POST YOUR SUBMISSION IN THE DISCUSSION BOARD ASSIGNED TO LESSON 7 (Not your team's board). Title your post - Your Country and your name
Begin by reading chapters 14 and 15 of the textbook, and the
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)

Part 2:
Then each complete an analysis using the following facts pattern:
CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING: Free trade among these nations have both pros and cons. Imagine that you represent the country assigned to you by your professor, and then speculate about both the positive and negative effects that NAFTA may have on the country you are assigned from the perspectives of the individuals listed (business leader, laborer, government); share your speculations with the class. Be sure to include the following in your post:
1. Provide information about the benefits of free trade to ALL countries involved (this can be a table)
2. From the perspectives of the country and parties I assigned you to: Discuss what the drawbacks are of free trade – provide specific examples supported by researchable data,
3. Respond to 2 classmates (1 person from your same team AND another person from another team
From the perspective of the country and parties I assigned you to: Discuss what your predictions and recommendations are for the future of NAFTA.
When replying to your classmates' posts:
Read your classmate's post and reply to no less than two of your classmates and a question.
Your question should be one of the following three types:
· Clarification Based: This kind of question helps the writer by asking your peer to clarify points that you think could be more fully explained.
· Evidence question - When a writer states something as fact rather than personal opinion, your peers argument is stronger if they cite evidence that the fact is true. Facts can be evidenced, in approximate order of strongest evidence to weakest, (1) by citing trustworthy data, (2) by citing the opinions of experts, (3) by citing repeatable personal experience, or (4) by citing common opinion. This kind of question helps the writer by asking for evidence if the student states something as fact but doesn't cite evidence.
· Hypothetical question - This kind of question helps the writer by asking your peer to test their argument by applying it to a situation that you specify.
Please note that a discussion is an exchange. Participate regularly and solicit feedback from your peers.

Ethics
Assessment 1 (Normative Theories)
While working in the business office of a primary care medical facility, you come across records showing that one of your daughter's grade-school teachers has been prescribed antipsychotic medication for the control of schizophrenia. Although you have been told to respect patient confidentiality in the workplace, you fear the potential harm such a person could cause in a position of authority over children. Develop your position on this ethical issue. What would you do?
Write a paper addressing this topic, supporting your position with credible research.
In explaining your position, address each of the following questions:
· What features of the situation are relevant for making a moral decision?
· What would a deontologist like Immanuel Kant recommend?
· What would a consequentialist like John Stuart Mill recommend?
· How do you justify your own decision about what to do?Additional Requirements
· Written communication:Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
· APA formatting: Include a title page and a references page, formatted according to APA (6thedition) style and formatting.
· References:A typical paper will include support from a minimum of 3–5 references. You should also include support from your independent research of scholarly or professional materials.
· Length: A typical paper will be 4 typed, double-spaced pages in length.
· Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12-point.
Assignment 2 (Making a Moral Decision)
For this assessment, you will invent a practical circumstance of your own choosing that illuminates differences among the three approaches to normative theory; a circumstance in which the duties, consequences, and virtues do not align with each other. It does not need to be a grand, controversial social issue; an everyday moral dilemma will make the conflict clearer. Just look for an example where doing your duty might cause lasting harm, or where caring about people requires breaking the rules.
Write a paper addressing this topic, supporting your statements with credible research on the three approaches to normative theory. You are also expected to conduct your own independent research into the scholarly and professional resources of the field.
Begin by describing a concrete situation that calls for someone to make an ethical decision about what to do. Choosing your example carefully will make it easier to draw an interesting contrast between the theoretical applications. Be sure to describe the situation with enough detail to provide adequate information for arriving at a responsible choice. You are welcome to choose a case in which you are personally involved, but you may find it easier to think objectively with a little detachment.

[NOTE ON ECREE: The university is adopting a tool, called ecree for doing writing assignments in many classes. We will be using the ecree program for doing our papers in this class. More instructions on this tool will be posted. You are welcome to type your paper in MS-Word as traditionally done—and then to upload that file to ecree to revise and finish it up. Or, as we suggest, you may type your paper directly into ecree. When using ecree, you should use CHROME as your browser. As posted: “Please note that ecree works best in Firefox and Chrome. Please do not use Internet Explorer or mobile devices when using ecree.”]
BACKGROUND FOR THE PAPER: After the Civil War, the United States had to recover from war, handle western expansion, and grapple with very new economic forms. However, its greatest issues would revolve around the legacies of slavery and increasing diversity in the decades after the Civil War. In the South, former slaves now had freedom and new opportunities but, despite the Reconstruction period, faced old prejudices and rapidly forming new barriers. Immigrants from Europe and Asia came in large numbers but then faced political and social restrictions. Women continued to seek rights. Yet, on the whole, America became increasingly diverse by the 1920s. Consider developments, policies, and laws in that period from 1865 to the 1920s. Examine the statement below and drawing from provided sources, present a paper with specific examples and arguments to demonstrate the validity of your position.
Topic and Thesis Statement—in which you can take a pro or con position:
· Political policies and movements in the period from 1865 to the 1920s generally promoted diversity and “the melting pot” despite the strong prejudices of a few. (or you can take the position that they did not). Use specific examples of policies or movements from different decades to support your position.
After giving general consideration to your readings so far and any general research, select one of the positions above as your position—your thesis. (Sometimes after doing more thorough research, you might choose the reverse position. This happens with critical thinking and inquiry. Your final paper might end up taking a different position than you originally envisioned.) Organize your paper as follows with the four parts below (see TIPS sheet and TEMPLATE also), handling these issues:
1. The position you choose —or something close to it—will be the thesis statement in your opening paragraph. [usually this is one paragraph with thesis statement being the last sentence of the paragraph.]
2. To support your position, use thre.

. The assignment is to write 2 essays of 2 pages each, for a total of 4 pages.

For exam.

· Add at least 6 rows of information (ex: 6 customers to the customer table)
3. Design one query that the business owners may be interested in.
4. Design one form that you think would be valuable for the business owner to have.
5. Design one report that would be valuable for the business owner to have.
6. In the Business Proposal you should include the follow:
· Problem Statement (In this case, state the purpose)
· Problem
Solution
(this is where you can describe your tables, how they are related, how they are useful and the purpose of the tables, query, report and form.
· Pricing (Be creative, remember this is a new company with not much capital)
· Why should they choose you over a competitor?
You will submit both the database and the report in blackboard it will be listed under assignments.

Assignment 1 Discussion—Environmental FactorsIn this assignment, .docxdeanmtaylor1545
Assignment 1: Discussion—Environmental Factors
In this assignment, you will have a chance to discuss a topic that brings personality theory together with social psychology. Dealing with unhealthy groups like gangs or cults is an important issue in social psychology. However, you cannot fully address this issue if you do not first understand personality development and how one’s personality affects the choices that are made. Specifically, you will look at Skinner’s behavioral perspective on personality development and discuss how that theory can play a role in this issue of unhealthy groups.
Bob is an adolescent who grew up in a gang-infested part of a large city. His parents provided little supervision while he was growing up and left Bob mostly on his own. He developed friendships with several kids in his neighborhood who were involved in gangs, and eventually joined a gang himself. Now crime and gang activities are a way of life for Bob. These have become his way to identify with his peer group and to support himself.
It is relatively easy to see that Bob’s environment has played a large role in his current lifestyle. This coincides with Skinner’s concept of environment being the sole determinant of how personality develops. Skinner believed that if you change someone’s environment and the reinforcements in that environment, you can change their behavior.
Use the Internet, Argosy University library resources, and your textbook to research Skinner’s concept of the environment and answer the following questions:
If you were to create an environment for Bob to change his behavior from that of a gang member to a respectable and law-abiding citizen, what types of environmental changes and positive reinforcements would you suggest and why?
What are some interventions that are used in the field currently? Are there any evidence-based programs that use these environmental and reinforcement interventions?
Write your initial response in 2–3 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Assignment 1 Dealing with Diversity in America from Reconstructi.docxdeanmtaylor1545
Assignment 1:
Dealing with Diversity in America from Reconstruction through the 1920s
Due Week 3 and worth 120 points
After the Civil War, the United States had to recover from war, handle western expansion, and grapple with very new economic forms.
Statement—in which you can take a pro or con position:
Political policies and movements in the period from 1865 to the 1920s generally promoted diversity and “the melting pot” despite the strong prejudices of a few.
Your final paper might end up taking a different position than you originally envisioned.) Organize your paper as follows, handling these issues:
The position you choose —or something close to it—will be the thesis statement in your opening paragraph.
To support your position, use three (3) specific examples from different decades between 1865 and 1930. You may narrowly focus on race or gender or immigrant status, or you may use examples relevant to all categories.
Explain why the opposing view is weak in comparison to yours.
Consider your life today: In what way does the history you have shown shape or impact issues in your workplace or desired profession?
Length: The paper should be 500-to-750 words in length.
Research and References: You must use a
MINIMUM of three sources
; the Schultz textbook must be one of them. Your other two sources should be drawn from the list provided below. This is guided research, not open-ended Googling.

Some sources are “primary” sources from the time period being studied. Some sources below can be accessed via direct link or through the primary sources links on Blackboard. Assignment 1 Due Monday 92319 By using linear and nonlinear .docxdeanmtaylor1545
Assignment 1: Due Monday 9/23/19
By using linear and nonlinear methods of listening, the counselor can respond in meaningful ways which can create a healthy therapeutic alliance. During the assessment, the client will often provide a wealth of information. It is the job of the counselor to listen in order to identify needs, resources, strengths and abilities. The counselor may pick up on gaps in the client's story during the assessment. This is likely because the client will tell the conscious part of the story. However, we must also listen to what is NOT being said.
Counselors must consider the unconscious part of the story during the assessment. One way for the counselor to do this is by being mindful of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). How might recognizing ACES:
1) inform the counselor during the assessment?
2) guide goal development for the treatment episode?
3) affect the clients readiness to change?

Assignment 2
This assignment is due in Module 9. The objective of this lesson is to utilize the Internet to help clarify/expand upon your teaching, while creating a field trip environment for your students.
There are times when you will not have the funding to take your class on an actual field trip. With the help of technology, you can now visit various sites without leaving the room. For assignment 4, you are going to plan a virtual field trip for your classroom. Think about the grade level, subject area, possible topics for the curriculum that you teach, and appropriate online communication. You must create an original, virtual field trip. You cannot use someone else's field trip. Remember, you can utilize various software (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.) to create this field trip, but be careful, it is not a lesson with technology assisted software. The students have to feel like they are truly at the location of the field trip looking at the exhibit, animal, statue, and so forth. There should be no words on the slides because it is not a classroom lesson, it is a field trip.
You will be the tour guide, and everything you plan to say as the guide shoul.

Chapter 1: What Is an
Information System?
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this chapter, you will be
able to:
• define what an information system is by identifying
its major components;
• describe the basic history of information systems;
and
• describe the basic argument behind the article
“Does IT Matter?” by Nicholas Carr.
Introduction
Welcome to the world of information systems, a world that seems to
change almost daily. Over the past few decades information systems
have progressed to being virtually everywhere, even to the point
where you may not realize its existence in many of your daily
activities. Stop and consider how you interface with various
components in information systems every day through different

electronic devices. Smartphones, laptop, and personal computers
connect us constantly to a variety of systems including messaging,
banking, online retailing, and academic resources, just to name a
few examples. Information systems are at the center of virtually
every organization, providing users with almost unlimited
resources.
Have you ever considered why businesses invest in technology?
Some purchase computer hardware and software because everyone
else has computers. Some even invest in the same hardware and
software as their business friends even though different technology
might be more appropriate for them. Finally, some businesses do
sufficient research before deciding what best fits their needs. As
you read through this book be sure to evaluate the contents of each
chapter based on how you might someday apply what you have
learned to strengthen the position of the business you work for, or
maybe even your own business. Wise decisions can result in stability
and growth for your future enterprise.
Information systems surround you almost every day. Wi-fi
networks on your university campus, database search services in
the learning resource center, and printers in computer labs are
good examples. Every time you go shopping you are interacting
with an information system that manages inventory and sales. Even
driving to school or work results in an interaction with the
transportation information system, impacting traffic lights,
cameras, etc. V.

ASSIGNMENT 1Hearing Versus ListeningDescribe how you le.docxdeanmtaylor1545
ASSIGNMENT 1:
Hearing Versus Listening
Describe how you learned how to listen! Please use between 300-500 words to make a complete description of this learned behavior. Did you learn to listen properly? Do you still listen the same way that you were taught as a child? Why or why not?
“Doctor Aunt”
by Eden, Janine and Jim.
CC-BY
.
A mother takes her four-year-old to the pediatrician reporting she’s worried about the girl’s hearing. The doctor runs through a battery of tests, checks in the girl’s ears to be sure everything looks good, and makes notes in the child’s folder. Then, she takes the mother by the arm. They move together to the far end of the room, behind the girl. The doctor whispers in a low voice to the concerned parent: “Everything looks fine. But, she’s been through a lot of tests today. You might want to take her for ice cream after this as a reward.” The daughter jerks her head around, a huge grin on her face, “Oh, please, Mommy! I love ice cream!” The doctor, speaking now at a regular volume, reports, “As I said, I don’t think there’s any problem with her hearing, but she may not always be choosing to listen.”
Hearing
is something most everyone does without even trying. It is a physiological response to sound waves moving through the air at up to 760 miles per hour. First, we receive the sound in our ears. The wave of sound causes our eardrums to vibrate, which engages our brain to begin processing. The sound is then transformed into nerve impulses so that we can perceive the sound in our brains. Our auditory cortex recognizes a sound has been heard and begins to process the sound by matching it to previously encountered sounds in a process known as
auditory association
.
[1]
Hearing has kept our species alive for centuries. When you are asleep but wake in a panic having heard a noise downstairs, an age-old self-preservation response is kicking in. You were asleep. You weren’t listening for the noise—unless perhaps you are a parent of a teenager out past curfew—but you hear it. Hearing is unintentional, whereas
listening
(by contrast) requires you to pay conscious attention. Our bodies hear, but we need to employ intentional effort to actually listen.
“Hearing Mechanics”
by Zina Deretsky. Public domain.
We regularly engage in several different types of listening. When we are tuning our attention to a song we like, or a poetry reading, or actors in a play, or sitcom antics on television, we are listening for pleasure, also known as
appreciative listening
. When we are listening to a friend or family member, building our relationship with another through offering support and showing empathy for her feelings in the situation she is discussing, we are engaged in
relational listening
. Therapists, counselors, and conflict mediators are trained in another level known as
empathetic or therapeutic listening
. When we are at a political event, attending a debate, or enduring a salesperson touting the benefits of vario.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Assignment 1Select one of these three philosophers (Rousseau, Lo.docx
1. Assignment 1
Select one of these three philosophers (Rousseau, Locke,
Hobbes) and write a 1 page paper in which you analyze the
significant ways in which their ideas differ from those at work
in modern democracies. What could we gain from following
their ideas more closely, and what might be dangerous if we did
so?
assignment 2
In the workplace, we may hear a statement, joke, or remark that
is unkind or inappropriate. Often the speaker might appear to do
so in a way that is not intended to offend, but comes from other
experiences or lack of awareness as to how they may be
received.
It is up to you as a manager to set the tone for how these
comments are countered in order to create an inclusive
environment.
Choose
one
of the statements below (clearly identify in your work which
statement you chose).
"We don't serve
those
people here." (Reference to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender clients)
"He should go back to his
own country."
(Reference to someone of a different race)
"She just slows us down." (Reference to a disabled worker)
"Why doesn't he retire already!" (Reference to an older
employer)
In a 2 page paper, suggest some ways in which you would
professionally respond if you heard the comment by your
subordinate in the employee lounge. Include how you might
2. approach the employee (immediately, privately etc.). Provide
specific comments that you might use in your discussion and
consider how the individual might defend their actions. What
further conversation might this lead to?
Explain the ethical and legal (if any) implications if statements
such as the one you chose would continue. What might be lost
in your workplace if the statements are allowed?
Include at least one resource you could use to help your
conversation. Identify whether there is a legal guideline to share
with your employee.
