power imbalance, sexual assault, victim blaming, and communication. The language we use to communicate relations between genders, sexes, religions, cultures, and politics, as well as many other topics, demonstrate power relations and attempts at leveraging power. Language itself can be used to lower somebody, creating a power imbalance, in order to justify actions, cultural systems, and so on and so forth. In our culture, we have seen a lot of debate lately regarding "victim blaming" in relation to sexual assault and sexual harassment.

Police are repeatedly called to the same household under domestic violence complaints. ) explores intimate violence against men and the validity of the CTS. The author also introduces the concept of "mutual combat" or "mutual battering." This hotly debated and complex issue involves a variety of factors but two important issues need mention here. First, changes in law enforcement policies have created what is commonly referred to as
mandatory
arrest policies
. Mandatory arrest policies typically state that when responding to domestic violence calls the violent offender should be arrested.
Originally lauded by practitioners and advocates as a major step in holding perpetrators accountable for their abusive behavior, many are beginning to rethink their stand of these policies. In jurisdictions where police officers determine who to arrest based on "visible signs of injury" battered women who have used force to defend themselves may be arrested, referred to as a batterer and mandated to attend a batterer's treatment program (typically a socioeducational intervention group for male batterers).
The reality that many survivors use force against their partners, and are now being arrested for such, has led to the controversial concept of
mutual
battering
. In some police jurisdictions the practice of making
dual arrests
in which both parties are arrested sometimes leads to the above outcome as well.
Second, early attitudes about domestic violence identified males as batterers and women as victims. As our understanding of this complex issue increases, we are beginning to understand that gender is not the most effective criteria for determining the primary aggressor nor is counting how many times who hit whom. In particular, gender criteria becomes useless when addressing abusive same sex relationships.

The Relationship between Pornography and Violence (we were supposed to discuss this)
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the conditions that lead to sexual attacks against women are an area that needs increased focus. Investigations have cited the role of the media, especially the role of pornography, in encouraging sexual violence.
Prior to being executed, the serial killer Ted Bundy was interviewed by a psychologist, James Dobson. Bundy disclosed that his addiction to hard-core pornography fueled the terrible crimes he committed. Bundy also made the startling statement, "I've lived in prison for a long time now, and I've met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence. Without exception, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography—deeply consumed by the addiction.”

From my readings I’ve learned that many people from different social groups have had a serious problem with pornography and its relation to sexual crimes. Feminist groups view pornography as a form of sex discrimination and political conservatives viewing it as a concern for protecting family values and a way to not reduce sexual promiscuity a cause for a ban for this type of “entertainment” (Linz & Donnerstein, 1992). The 1980s saw a common fight among conservatives and feminists going after the spread of pornography. In previous time, the fight to “stamp out smut” was based on morality but with pornography, not only is morality a focus but so is public safety. (Chapman, 2007). “They argued that hard-core erotica was intolerable because it promoted sexual violence against women. “Pornography is the theory; rape is the practice," wrote feminist author Robin Morgan. In 1986, a federal commission concurred. Some kinds of pornography, it concluded, are bound to lead to "increased sexual violence." Indianapolis passed a law allowing women to sue producers for sexual assaults caused by material depicting women in "positions of servility or submission or display. “The campaign fizzled when.

Aileen Wuornos was a real-life female serial killer. As a child, her father was convicted of sexually abusing children and killed himself in prison. At one point he was diagnosed as schizophrenic. Wuornus was abandoned by her mother at four years old and forced to live with her abusive grandparents. After having a baby at 14 she was kicked out of her grandparent’s home and lived on the streets as a prostitute. Wuornos was convicted of six life sentences for killing men she accused of either raping her or attempting to rape her.
Based on your reading this week, define, in your own words, forensic psychology as a specific example of applied behavioral science, and describe how forensic psychology could have been helpful in this case.
“Forensic psychology is a field of study that applies scientific psychological knowledge to legal issues pertaining to criminal offenders and the criminal justice system. Identify trends in forensic psychology that would prove helpful” (McCarthy et al, 2016, section 6.1). I would define it as the application and education of reliable scientific psychology in the criminal justice system. Forensic psychologist can evaluate human behaviors and based on scientifically reliable assessments determine the dangerousness to a person’s self or society at large. The can also look for common diagnosis to determine if a person is fit to stand trial. In the case of Wuornus, a forensic psychologist could have examined her RAP sheet to determine if she was a threat to society. She was arrested for several crimes, including armed robbery and assault. In the biosocial age, criminologist now have access to genetic and brain imaging data. I think it would have been worth assessing her for schizophrenia. She stated that the men she killed either raped her or attempted to rape her until she was executed. Paranoia is common in schizophrenics and some believed she was convinced that she was raped or about to be raped. In her mind the murders were justified.

This hotly debated and complex issue involves a variety of factors but two important issues need mention here. First, changes in law enforcement policies have created what is commonly referred to as
mandatory
arrest policies
. Mandatory arrest policies typically state that when responding to domestic violence calls the violent offender should be arrested.
Originally lauded by practitioners and advocates as a major step in holding perpetrators accountable for their abusive behavior, many are beginning to rethink their stand of these policies. In jurisdictions where police officers determine who to arrest based on "visible signs of injury" battered women who have used force to defend themselves may be arrested, referred to as a batterer and mandated to attend a batterer's treatment program (typically a socioeducational intervention group for male batterers).
The reality that many survivors use force against their partners, and are now being arrested for such, has led to the controversial concept of
mutual
battering
. In some police jurisdictions the practice of making
dual arrests
in which both parties are arrested sometimes leads to the above outcome as well.
Second, early attitudes about domestic violence identified males as batterers and women as victims. As our understanding of this complex issue increases, we are beginning to understand that gender is not the most effective criteria for determining the primary aggressor nor is counting how many times who hit whom. In particular, gender criteria becomes useless when addressing abusive same sex relationships.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the conditions that lead to sexual attacks against women are an area that needs increased focus. Investigations have cited the role of the media, especially the role of pornography, in encouraging sexual violence.
Prior to being executed, the serial killer Ted Bundy was interviewed by a psychologist, James Dobson. Bundy disclosed that his addiction to hard-core pornography fueled the terrible crimes he committed. Bundy also made the startling statement, "I've lived in prison for a long time now, and I've met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence. Without exception, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography—deeply consumed by the addiction.”

From my readings I’ve learned that many people from different social groups have had a serious problem with pornography and its relation to sexual crimes.
