 has been one of the central issues
of public debates in the recent
years
 August 8,1967 Bangkok, Thailand
hosted the first convergence of
five Southeast nations, Indonesia ,
Malaysia , Philippines , Singapore
, and Thailand
 these countries , recognizing their
historical and cultural ties,
common difficulties, and struggles
and mutual interest, established
the ASEAN through the ASEAN
(Bangkok) Declaration .
 the 5 members of alliance
who join forces for
strengthening the
economic and social
stability of the region they
are the followings the
Brunei Darussalam in
1984, Vietnam in 1995,
Lao PDR and Myanmar in
1997, and Cambodian in
1999.
1. promote regional peace and stability
2. to promote active collaboration and mutual assistance
3. to accelerate the economic growth ,social progress, and
cultural development in the region
4. to provide assistance to each other in the form of training
and research facilities in the educational , professional ,
technical and administrative spheres
5. To collaborate more effectively for the greater utilization of
their agriculture and industries
6. To promote Southeast Asian studies
7. To maintain close and beneficial cooperation with existing
international and regional organizations
1. Mutual respect for the independence , sovereignty, equality,
territorial integrity, and national identity of all nations;
2. The right of every State to lead its national existence
3. Non-interference in the internal affairs of one another;
4. Settlement of differences or disputes by peaceful manner;
5. Renunciation of the threat or use of force ; and
6. Effective cooperation among themselves
ASEAN’s 30th Anniversary 1997
 The ten State ⁄ Government heads signed the ASEAN Vision
2020
9th ASEAN Summit 2003
 State ⁄ Government Leaders established a common goal to turn
the organization into one unified ASEAN community
12th ASEAN Summit 2007
 Inaugurated in Cebu, Philippines to fast track the regional
integration in 2015
