TEACHING STUDIES 3B
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence presents an
introduction to the science of reasoning processes in
computers, and the research approaches and results of
the past two decades.
TEACHING INTHE 4th INDUSTRIAL
REVOLUTION.WILLTEACHERS BE REPLACED BY
ROBOTS ?
Robots will never replace teachers but they
can help to do better as teachers
 In a world where young people are retreating more and more into
virtual unreality, the teaching profession has become more important
than it ever was.
 It is teaching that keeps it real – teaching that keeps young people
alive.
 Artificial intelligence is rapidly growing, and that fear of losing your job
to technology has become very real.
 I believe that while technology can solve many societal problems, it’s
not as simple as handing it over to a computer. At least not when it
comes to teaching.
Even if the robotic teacher can do many task than the teacher , In a
classroom context the robotic teacher can teach the content to the
learners and be able to answer the learners questions in a second but
there are other tasks that the robot can not do at all.
The robot can deliver the content to the learners but the robot can not
contextualise the content that is being taught because the robot does
not know the background of the learners .
As a future teacher I believe that teacher’s role is not just to teach but
teacher is also looking after the learners in the class, spotting those
experiencing difficulties and supporting them as necessary. Robotics
are unable to do that. In this sense it is one of the most human jobs we
have.
 People are social animals they like to interact with each other or they
like to learn from other people. In a classroom context learners are
able to interact with the teacher. Robots will never be able to match
humans on that count.
 Robotics can do better to answer the really difficult questions when
learners get stuck. Which human teachers can take some time or
days to answer those questions.
 Teachers are there to share their experiences in life, to relate to the
learners one human to another. It is for this reason that teachers’ jobs
are safe for the foreseeable future
 But what we are forgetting is that robots are unable to create a
culture of excellence. They are unable to push students to excel.
 Obviously, we can’t deny the power of technology in education –
but not to the point of completely replacing teachers altogether.
Technology and teaching can coexist.
 Robotic teacher can be used as “learning tools” but scratch the
belief that the future of teachers will result in a lack.
 However, not every teacher is the same and not all believe in the
same pedagogy, but students are adaptable.
 It would be unrealistic to put students in classrooms based on their
learning style because the world does not function like that outside
the classroom.
 I believe that even social robots do not have the pedagogy of care
But human teachers can adopt it. Having the pedagogy of care
means being accountable and undertaking to designing the learning
environment (Tronto,1993)
Empathy, helping young people develop social skills,
communication skills, helping them explore the creative process,
develop problem-solving abilities, helping them to create and
imagine – these are the things that you can’t automate, and they
remain the unique traits of human beings. Also robotic teacher
can not do that.
 Can a robotic teacher mediates the learning ? I don’t think so .
 This is one of the most task done by a teacher in a classroom.
mediating the learners means that the teacher is not the
dispenser of knowledge but a guide and a facilitator
,encouraging learners to question ,challenge and investigate
which cant seem to be done by a robotic teacher.
