Teachers Vs Robots
Can teachers be replaced by robots??
Here is a reminder of the responsibilities of a teachers …
• Learning mediator
• Interpreter and designer of learning programmes
and materials
• Leader, administrator and manager
• Researcher and lifelong learner
• Community, citizenship and pastoral role
• Assessor
• Learning area/subject discipline/phase specialist.
But most importantly…
Beyond all that, teachers serve many other roles
in the classroom.
Teachers set the tone of their classrooms, build a
warm environment for the students, mentor and
nurture students, become role models and
parents to the learners
Listen and look for signs of trouble.
Can a Robot do that??
Sure, Robots are programmed and designed to be
able to deliver content and facilitate the
educational process. And they will be able to
teach without fail
BUT…
I personally think that a robot could never
completely replace a teacher. A robot is limited
and can help or facilitate a teacher in the
teaching and learning process by providing
knowledge, skills and identifying the type of
pedagogy that should be provided for each
group.
…
However there are certain elements such as the emotional
sensitivity, adapting to new environments and issues such
as decolonising the curriculum to suit the needs of the
student that a robot could never fully replace. A robot is
all work and no play and could never really connect with
students on a personal level.
They may come of as insensitive or closed off and
discourage learning if a students has needs that they are
not programmed or designed to attend to. For real teachers
it comes off as second nature, it is prompt and no
formatting or programming is required.
Robot Teachers Can
• Complete the syllabus or curriculum within a fixed span of
time, without falling loose or failing to face any error, other
than the technical ones.
• Accelerate the schedule of teaching based on the lesson
programmed or formatted well in their system. They are
followed up by the artificial intelligence which is nothing
but an alternative or substitution of human basic reactions
• With deaf exams coming to pass robot teachers will be able
to accommodate and facilitate the process. They will be
programmed to be patient enough unlike human minds
which will lead to fatigue and irritation after certain hours.
Therefore…
• Collaboration of The current teachers and the
upcoming robot teacher should be encouraged.
• Robot teachers are better at technical
developments but it surely is difficult for robot
teachers to match up to the ‘unique’ social skills
and cognitive ratio exclusively found in humans.
• Human teachers may be better at identifying the
needs and the child's best interest better than the
programmed teacher, hence they also need to be
in the classroom together.
Hence hand in hand they could improve education…
The End!!!
