This document provides a review of the book "Art as Research: Opportunities and Challenges" edited by Shaun McNiff. The book collects over 20 articles on the topic of art-based research originally published in journals. While initially assumed to be about art therapy research, the book more broadly addresses arts-based research involving musicians, writers and other creative professionals. The reviewer discusses several of the articles in depth and notes the value of the collection for art therapy students conducting heuristic art-based inquiries. However, the reviewer expresses some concerns about McNiff's stance that the efficacy of art is already known and research is redundant.
