Lynda Benglis
Lynda Benglis, born in 1941, is a
pioneer of abstract art. Working
primarly with interesting materials,
such as latex or metal, she creates
work that is full of bold color and
sensual lines. Her intent is to
continue to push the lines of what
is abstraction and to continue to
think “outside of the typical box.”
Production still from the "Art in the Twenty-First Century" Season
6 episode, "Boundaries," 2012
My Interpretation of Lynda Benglis
For my interpretation of work by
Lynda Benglis, I chose to integrate her
use of bright, rainbow colors.
Additionally, I chose to take a
photograph that makes me happy and
edit it to grayscale and color over. I
made this choice because looking
through Lynda Benglis’ pieces invoked
happiness and joy due to her bright
use of color and differentiating
materials.

Louise Despont
Louise Despont is an artist
who uses architectural
stencils to create intricate
pencil on paper drawings.
She completes these
beautiful, detailed pieces in
her home in Brooklyn, NY.

My Interpretation of Louise Despont
I was initially drawn to Louise
Despont’s artwork due to the cool and
detailed nature of her artwork. I really
enjoyed the fact that much of her work
was on a large scale. In a way, her work
was seemingly “relaxing” and calming.
For my interpretation, I used cool
colors to lightly pencil and draw in
mosaic design. Although I am not near
as talented and able to draw on such a
large scale as Despont, my completed
work was 12 inches by 12 inches.

Jenny Holzer
Jenny Holzer is a neo-nonconceptual
modern artist who uses public places
to address political discourse. She is
65 and currently works out of Ohio.
Some of her most featured work
includes “Granite Bench” and
“Electric Sign”.
Sienna Gallery,2009. Jenny Holzer. No other information given.
Jenny Holzer Interpretation
In researching Jenny Holzer’s
politically minded work, I was
partially influenced by her use of
words to invoke a message. I
chose to think of wording that I
felt deeply connected with and
paste it on to paper in a collage
format. Throughout my entire
life, words have always spoken
deeply to me so I really enjoyed
interpreting Jenny Holzers work
through my reflection piece.
