This document presents a study proposal to evaluate the effectiveness of a simulation-based training program for caregivers of infants being discharged from the NICU with tracheostomies. The study would involve a retrospective chart review, followed by a simulation intervention for caregivers to practice managing tracheostomy emergencies at home, and then a prospective follow up to assess the impact on caregiver skills, confidence, and rates of hospital readmission. The presenters seek feedback on outcome measures, logistical considerations, the potential for a multi-centered study, and ways to refine the study design.
