  2. 2. • Sedation is performed by a variety of providers and specialties in acute & ambulatory settings often by an interdisciplinary team • When single providers (RN’s alone or MD’s alone) sedate children they have lower odds (p < .0001) of adverse events (0.46 and 0.53 OR, respectively), compared to RN+MD sedation teams (Crego, 2016) • Improvements in team communication may improve sedation team performance and decrease adverse events • Current pediatric sedation provider course primarily focuses on physician provider role and has limited content on team communication International Network for Simulation-based Pediatric Innovation, Research and Education Background
  3. 3. • Population: Pediatric Sedation Providers (MD, RN, NP) • Intervention: Develop, test, & evaluate a pediatric sedation provider course toolkit: including interdisciplinary team communication with Team Stepps & evidence based sedation safety practices via on-line content and in-person simulation course • Control/Comparison: Current provider feedback and content in a pediatric sedation provider course • Outcome(s): Interdisciplinary team demonstrates evidence based safe sedation practice and communication (Pre- Sedation Time out, SBAR, call out, check back & hand off) International Network for Simulation-based Pediatric Innovation, Research and Education PICO / Research Question
