Arguments Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Arguments Essay" can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies in the multifaceted nature of argumentative essays, which require a thorough
understanding of the chosen subject, the ability to critically analyze various perspectives, and the
skill to articulate a well-structured argument.
Firstly, selecting a compelling and relevant topic is crucial. This involves identifying a
contentious issue that allows for multiple viewpoints and arguments. Once the topic is chosen,
extensive research becomes a necessity. It's essential to delve into various credible sources to
gather evidence and support for the arguments.
Constructing a coherent and logical argument is another hurdle. This requires the writer to
organize their thoughts systematically, ensuring a smooth flow of ideas from introduction to
conclusion. Each argument should be well-supported with evidence, and counterarguments
should be addressed to strengthen the overall position.
Additionally, mastering the art of persuasive writing is paramount. The language used must be
clear, concise, and convincing. Striking the right balance between assertiveness and respect for
opposing views is challenging, as is maintaining an unbiased tone throughout the essay.
Moreover, crafting a captivating introduction and a powerful conclusion adds to the complexity.
The introduction must grab the reader's attention and provide a clear thesis statement, while the
conclusion should summarize the main points and leave a lasting impression.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Arguments Essay" demands a combination of
research skills, critical thinking, persuasive writing, and organizational proficiency. It's an
intellectually demanding task that requires dedication and effort to produce a high-quality piece.

The Uniform Crime Report Essay
The Uniform Crime Report, which was developed in the 1930s, is commonly used
by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a record of crimes committed all across
the United States. These crimes, which fall under two categories, Part I and Part II
offenses, are reported by local police to the Federal Bureau of Investigation each
year. Part I offenses are considered to be the more serious of crimes recognized by
society. Such examples of this are homicide, forcible rape, robbery, arson, motor
vehicle theft, etc. Part II offenses are those that are considered less serious, such as
fraud, simple assault, drug abuse, gambling, stolen property, embezzlement, etc. Part
I crimes can also be subdivided into what are known as violent crimes and... Show

Criminal profilers can use the information from the Uniform Crime Report to presume
that the shooter was that of another African American man, possibly gang related.
Although a crime is reported in the Uniform Crime Report does not mean that the
arrestee in that crime is representative of the population. It is easy to misinterpret the
Uniform Crime Report and generalize a certain race or even gender to a particular
crime. We often see poor, nonwhite males in the Uniform Crime Report for
committing Part I crimes. This diverts the attention away from the wealthy white
businessman who might be a part of white collar crime. White collar crime is hardly
represented in this type of crime measurement (Barkan, 2012). However,
measurements of crime using the Uniform Crime Report are not completely accurate
either. Local police officers often do not report crimes that they think are not
substantial enough. Only the more serious crimes (Part I crimes) are the ones that
they feel deserve the time and effort doing paper work for to be reported in the
Uniform Crime Report. This means that a lot of Part II cases go unreported by
police and, once again, the white collar crimes are over looked meaning the Uniform
Crime Report is not accurate (Barkan, 2012). The only crimes that can be reported
into the Uniform Crime Report are ones that are known by police. In some instances,
Harvey Captain Courageous Quotes
Passage 1: from Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling, adapted by Malvina G.
Vogel Harvey is a rich, young boy who is used to having servants. He is traveling
on a steamship in the late 1900s. When he gets sick and falls overboard, a local
fishing crew rescues him and safely brings him aboard their boat. Disko Troop is
the captain of this rescue boat. The boat is called We re Here, and Dan Troop, his
son, tries to help Harvey out. 1 I m Dan Troop, said the boy, and my father s

look remarkably alike. When the two have the opportunity to meet, they begin to
talk about changing places. 15 Tell me more, the prince said eagerly. What do you
do with your friends? 16 We sometimes have stick fights and we run races. In the
summer, we go wading in the canals. We have water battles in the river, splashing
each other all over the place. 17 How I would love that! cried Edward. If only I
could do those things just once! But go on. 18 And at the river s edge, we bury each

Black Death Of The 14th Century Analysis
The Black Death of the fourteenth century was an extremely deadly pandemic that
killed off around half of Europe s population. It acted quickly, killing the people who
contracted it within three days once they displayed any symptoms. It s no surprise
that the people who were affected reacted the way they did. In terms of the responses,
those of the Black Deathand those of Zika, Ebola, and HIV AIDS were actually very
similar in how the fear the outbreaks produced overwhelmed the masses into being
overprotective and paranoid for their own wellbeing.
According to Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron, hundreds of Florentine citizens
would die daily, and those who have not met that fate yet would have to walk along
the streets inhaling putrid scents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HIV AIDS was a sexually transmitted disease that preyed on the gay community in
many areas of the world. No one had an idea of what it was and how it worked;
everyone simply relied on the fact that once you had it, you were as good as dead.
On top of sex being somewhat of a taboo topic in American society, there was also a
significant amount of discrimination towards the gay communities, and once it was
known that it was common because of members having several partners, HIV
became more of a stereotype. Gay members were shunned and isolated even more
than they already were, with people not wanting to even be near them. Fear was not
the only factor that affected society and fostered hostility towards others; the pre
existent stigma against gay people always played a
Cost Of Equipment For Mcdonald s Corporation
The rent is considered as $12,000 per unit per month after evaluating the existing
lease of the company. McDonald s operations will be on the campus of the university,
so the major approvals will be a mutual understanding under the contract between the
university and McDonald s. Cost of equipment is not considered since company can
use the existing equipment collected from the 722 closed restaurants in 2015
(McDonald s Corporation, 2016), however the transportation and installation cost is
included in the infrastructure cost. Employee s salary is considered on average
basis of company s pay scale of each position (McDonald s Corporation, 2016). It is
assumed that initially the restaurant will be working for 16 hours a day and 25
days a month as shown in calculation above. For the initial year it is considered that
average sales per day will be 1500 and for the second year will increase to 1650,
which is considered by the growth of the universities and students enrolled. COGS
is 1/3rd of the cost of sales and sales is based upon an average consumer spending
in a restaurant (McDonald s Corporation, 2015). Income is also generated from the
fees received from the college and universities for the services which is calculated
on average of $240,000 annually, however the fees income will vary with every
college depending on the contract. 1% commission on sales to universities is consider
as expenditure for the company. McDonald s current financial requirement is approx.

The Objectives And Objectives Of Human Resource
Management
Abstract:
Introduction
The Human mind is our fundamental resource John F. Kennedy
Human Resource is the Human Capital. Human Resource Management is the process
of maximum use of the available human resource in order to achieve the goal of the
organization.Since every organization is made up of people, acquiring their services,
developing their skills, motivating them to higher levels of performance and ensuring
that they continue to maintain their commitment to the organization are essential to
achieving organizational objectives. This is true, regardless of the type of
organization government, business, education, health, recreation, or social action.

Electroconvulsive Therapy
An emerging area of experimental research in MDD treatment relates to the use of
electromagnetic devices and stimulators in a therapeutic context. The approach builds
on historical treatment methods like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which though
exceptionally effective in the short term, often sees a return of depressive symptoms.
Compounding the problem with ECT was the increased tolerance some patients
showed, thus requiring higher and higher voltage dosages to achieve the same results,
not unlike drug tolerance, and side effects like generalized mental confusion in the
immediate aftermath of the therapy. As Ren et al. (21014) describe in
electromagnetic treatments have advanced considerably since their inception and

farm he was inspired for his painting Kansas Cornfield . This oil on canvas was
completed in 1933 and now hangs in the Wichita Art Museum. This paintingwas one

The Truth about Hackers Essay
The Truth about Hackers
The Truth about Hackers In the winter of the year 2000 an eighteen year old hacker,
who went by the name Curador accessed about 26, 000 credit card numbers and put
them on the internet. With the help of an ex hacker, Curador was eventually tracked
down and sentenced. All of this was explained in a frontline interview with Curador
himself also known as Raphael Gray. Who are these so called hackers? Are peoples
assumptions about teenage hackers correct? In 1995 the movie Hackers portrayed
the images and lifestyles of hackers similar to the one mentioned above. The
characters in Hackers show a media example of finding themselves in cyberspace by
forming a community which creates their own boundaries. According to ... Show

The article, Finding ones own in cyberspace by Amy Bruckman, explains how
anyone can form their own cyber community. Bruckman says, the way a community
is publicized or not publicized also influences its character (175). Even though the
hacker society has not been publicized, they are still around. Hackers publicize the
information that they want other people to hear. Their prerogative is to portray
themselves the way they want to be known. In an interview conducted with
researcher Sarah Gordon, who studies the psychology of virus writers and hackers,
she states, There are lots of kids just out joyriding on computer systems. Not
everyone knows what they are doing or how serious they are affecting other
people. Therefore, many different cyber communities are formed including a few
for hackers. Also shown in Hackers is the idea that hackers not only come together
through the internet, but also in the real world. Everyday hackers do not limit
their meeting places to just the cyber places as shown in the film. The hytec
environment such as raves is easy for Hollywood to associate with hackers.
However, raves and cyberspace are not the only places for hackers to meet. They
can also meet anywhere such as a coffee shop or a park. Hackers tend to be
perceived as people with an addiction or infatuation with computers. The movie
shows the main character staying up all hours of the night and not really getting any
sleep. Many people do this for other things

Uncle Tom s Cabin
The novel Uncle Tom s Cabin, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, depicts an Anti
Slavery view as the author tells the story of a slave named Uncle Tom and the
different journeys he takes showing readers how harsh and cruel the slave life was.
In this book the main characters are Uncle Tom, Eliza and George Harris. Although
this book is not non fiction it is truly based on various events that actually took place
in southern history.
Uncle Tom s Cabin takes place in Mississippi and Kentucky in the late 1800s right
after the civil war based on Uncle Tom who was a very obedient slave who followed
everything and anything his master would tell him to do. Uncle Tom also ... Show

From the very beginning of this novel I admired the main character Uncle Tom in
various ways, but by the very end of the story Uncle Tom became my hero. As author
Harriet Beecher Stowe illustrates the events that takes place in Uncle Tom s life he
reacted with God in his heart. When Stowe walked readers through each stage of
his life as a slave being passed on to owner after owner, readers were given a clearer
and better understanding of the African American slaves struggle. As Stowe
narrates the description of the way the slaves were treated I was truly affected and
with each description my feelings of hurt grew deeper and deeper. I realized in
reading Uncle Tom s Cabin that he was a strong but yet so gentle individual and I
thought over where might his strength truly came from. It is true and obvious that
Uncle Tom was an extremely God fearing man who that practiced on becoming a

Ida B Wells Argument For Lynchingnings
In the late 19th century, lynchings were commonplace occurrences, especially in
Southern states. The lynchings were publicized in newspaper ads and were so
accepted that postcards showing pictures of the event were sold as souvenirs.
Apologists claimed that the lynchings took place to punish criminals for their crimes
and to protect white women from black aggressors. To counter the claims that
resulted in these punishments, many activists, including Ida B. Wells, wrote speeches
depicting the harsh and racist reality of lynchings. In 1909, Wells gave a speech at the
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People s first annual
conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in which she condemns lynchings and their public
acceptance. By offering... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her speech, Ida B. Wells appeals to emotion and logic by using statistics and real
life stories of lynchings. She also counters the apologists defense of lynching by using
strong language and statistics to disprove the validity of their claims. Finally, Wells
offers a solution on how to end lynching and ensures that crimes will still be
punished, even if lynching subsides. Despite the criticism of Wells and many other
authors and activists, lynching persisted in the United States for a substantial period
of time. Lynchings were so frequent in Southern states that Montgomery, Alabama,
has plans to build a lynching memorial to recognize the mistreatment of black citizens
and memorialize the victims. However, lynchings then were not the public disgrace
they are now considered, and the unjust treatment of black citizens continued even
after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Activists like Wells have continued to identify
racism when they see it in hopes to create a more equal society, but many would
argue that an equal society still has not been

Ever wanted to go south to a Latin American country? Well there is plenty to

country culturally and physically, called Costa Rica. You don t believe me, huh?
Decide for yourself. Costa Rica s general information Costa Rica is currently at the
population of 4,500,000. The national territory is 31,682 square miles. If you
compare that to size of the United States at 3.79 million square miles, its a very

Afro Caribbean music like rumba, calypso and reggae are popular. In most of
Costa Rica, ancient instruments like ocarinas are being replaced by international
instruments like accordions and guitars. There are still folk styles, outside of
Guanacaste, such as the Talamanca s Danza de los Huelos and the Boruca s
Danza de los Diablitos. Guanacaste is the major regin for Costa Rican folk music,
especially pre Columbian styles like the Danza del Sol and Danza de la Luna of
the Chorotega, who also made popular the ancient quijongo (a single string bow
and gourd resonator) and native oboe, the chirimia. Costa Rica s population never
developed a major rhythm or style that became a major part of popular music, and
Costa Rica has not produced a great literary or other artistic tradition. There have
been exceptions, such as the Costa Rican landscape school of painting in the
1920s. In the late 1980s local artists and bands became famous for having their own
original material, such as JosГ© Capmany, CafГ© con Leche and Inconsciente
Colectivo; some of them had fans from outside of Costa Rica, like Editus, a
Grammy winning contemporary jazz ensemble. At that time a popular Latin genre
developed, chiqui chiqui as it was known, led by bands such as Los Hicsos and La
Banda. Chiqui chiqui was a commercial approach to music and soon disappeared.
From the late 90 s to present time, there has emerged a newer rock style led by bands
such as Gandhi, EvoluciГіn, Alma
Inaccuracies Of The Balian In The Movie Kingdom Of
Heaven
The movie Kingdom of Heaven is about the fight for the Holy city of Jerusalem.
Balian, our main character who we follow throughout the movie, is the leader of
the Christian crusaders. In the beginning, he is seen in France, at the grave of his
wife, who had committed suicide after the death of their children. The crusaders
come to France, and offer a position with them to Balian. At first, he does not want
to go, but after killing a man, he catches up with the crusaders and joins them in
their battles. He meets, and eventually falls in love with the Queen, Sybilla. He
goes through many battles, and eventually ends it all with a truce with Saladin. In
the following paragraphs, I will now explain to you the inaccuracies of this movie.
My first topic is on Balian. To start off, he was not, and never lived, in France. In
result, he never needed to catch up with the crusaders, being that he was already
living in Jerusalem. The opening of the movie is him with his wife s grave, praying,
because she had committed suicide. In reality, she never did. Balian was shown as an
illegitimate child, not knowing his father.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He simply made the men kneel, said a few words and even slapped one man,
before declaring them all knights. There was actually a lot more to it than just
saying words, there was training involved in this. Balian was asked by one man,
Bishop, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, if making a man a knight a better fighter, to
which he replied, Yes . The actual process would begin when the boy was 7, all the
way up to the age of 21. The article Becoming a Knight states that Knighthood
training was a long and often arduous process (Alchin). This is showing that those
men could not have even gotten a fraction of the training other knights had gotten in
that short of a period of time from being knighted to the start of the fighting at the
Newsies Movie Analysis
Newsies, a classic musical based on the late 1800 s is a very entertaining and
family friendly musical except for the few profane words. On a cloudy, partially
rainy saturday morning, I laid out on the couch and watched the movie from the
comfort of my own home. I was hesitant to watch this movie because I am not
much of a musical person. About midway through I found myself at the edge of my
seat hypnotized by the movie. As the movie drew to an end, I was completely
sucked in and waited for something more. The movie I so dreadfully did not want to
watch became something I did not want to end. In this movie the director and
composer correlated their scenes and musicperfectly together to touch the thoughts
and emotions of the audience watching.
The Newsies movie is based on a group of young strong hearted newspaper boys that
run the streets of New york City provoking newspaper sales just to have some food
on the table for them to eat. Every morning the boys wake up early to go buy
copies of the latest newspaper before it is all sold out. During a time when nothing
media worthy was going on in New York City, greedy media moguls raised the
prices of newspapers so they could stay cushioned on top of their business empires;
however, raising the prices of newspaper on the boys meant less profit for them.
The price raise did not settle well with the boys, and they began a strike to lower the
prices. In doing so they earned the name Newsies. As the movie began to conclude,

Freudian Psyche in Geisel s The Cat in the Hat

Through the years, many parents have read the children s book The Cat in the Hat to
their kids. Written by Theodore Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the
Hat is a lively and wonderful book to read to children. No only that, but also it
helps teach children about right and wrong through fun and exciting characters. But
many kids and parents alike are missing a piece of the puzzle. Not only is The Cat in

The cold and rain outside causes the Cat in the Hat to pursue satisfaction of his
immediate urges despite the fish s constant complaining. He is determined to fulfill
his thirst for pleasure and fun. Why, we can have/Lots of good fun, if you wish,

only to entertain himself, but also to entertain the kids as well. Even when the kids
ask him to leave, he tries his best to convince them to have more of his fun.
The children of The Cat in the Hat represent the part of the human psyche known as
the ego. When the Cat in the Hat enters the home and promises fun, they are
tempted. They are eager for fun when they say, ...How I wish/We had something to
do! (2) and Then Sally and I/did not know what to say./Our mother was out of the

wrong it is for the Cat in the Hat to be in the house. They want to have fun, but they

Assignment 2 Met Essay
1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why?
A temperature inversion is most likely to form on a calm night. Windy nights are
not ideal for an inversion to occur since an inversion is considered a stable layer of
atmosphere as well as due to the wind mixing the air to even out the density,
remembering cold air is denser than warm air so it will flow downhill and pool in a
valley.
2. What are the various methods used to protect sensitive crops from damaging low
temperatures? Explain why each method works.
Various methods to help protect sensitive crops include:
a. Orchard heaters smudge pots help warm air around the trees by setting up

A pika is a small mammal in the ochotonidae family. Pikas have a round body, very
short limbs, rounded ears and are usually short haired. (and really cute) They look
more like a mouse but are way more closely related to a rabbit. There are about
thirty different types of pikas that are still alive. Almost all pika species are extinct,
and all of the species that are alive, are highly endangered. According to
Natureworks, there are two different pika species in north America, and twenty
eight in Asia. The most common species is the American pika. They live in the
northwestern united states and a tiny bit of Canada. The second most common
species of pika is the Ili pika, (or Chinese pika) which kind of has the face of a teddy

Due to this all organizations need a unique way of thinking about OTH and emerging

Middle School Speech
Middle school is great. I guess you have to learn to love it because it will be with you
for years. My friends are amazing, and the teachers are nice. When I look back to
the first few days of middle school, though, I think, how did everything work out so
well?
Being the new kids in a huge school is difficult. Therefore, knowing one friend was
helpful. Her name is Rachel. Other than that, I knew five kids who I ve said about
two words to. I actually got lucky having Rachel in my team class, except her
homeroom was the other teacher. On the first day of school, I got lost. It wasn t the
best start to the day, so when I walked in the room and saw a familiar face, I smiled.
I found my seat on the opposite side of the room. Everyone at my table was talking ...

Well she was just telling me about her amazing vacation to Hawaii, and how she

The Hymn Of Sinuhe Analysis
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, Men are not prisoners of Fate, but
only prisoners of their own minds. This quote around the end of the Great
Depression and during the global crisis leading up to World War II seems to
embody even in 2017 the can do attitude of America, a nation today that s strongest
belief seems to be free will and the power of personal opinion and choice. In
contrast, The Hymn of Sinuhe , establishes and takes for granted the concept that
the gods and thereby kings are the only one who have control over fate, while
using poetic style and tone to praise Sinuhe and gloss over Sinuhe s constant denial
of responsibility for his decisions that can give people today an opposing viewpoint
to learn from in light of the centrality of free will in other religions and time periods.
Sinuhe reflects on his motivation for flight (pg. 67), after Sinuhe s battle with the
hero of Retjenu he proceeds to credit the gods with both his victory and his prior
loss of a home. Sinuhe says, For now God has acted so as to be gracious to one with
whom He was offended, whom He led astray to another country. Today, He is
satisfied (pg.67). Sinuhe s message is one consistent with many religious ideals of
the time, that the gods have overarching control over the lives of people on earth
and only they can intercede on the people s behalf if the person s actions are
pleasing to them. However, Sinuhe also implies that it was never his decision to
desert the army and flee his homeland. In a line that could be simply blended into
the surrounding religious ideas and glossed over due to the language of praise that
Sinuhe is offering to the gods, his attitude and belief remain that he is at the mercy
of a god who has led him astray to another country .
Also, the intent of this hymn is to glorify its speaker, Sinuhe, but the under Sinuhe s
respect for the gods he tends to fail to not only take notice of the possibility that it
might have been he himself who had led him away from his homeland. The portion
of the hymn leading into Sinuhe s crisis of identity and motivation also points
towards Sinuhe s worldview. In lines 237 256 the epic tells the tale of Sinuhe s
triumph over the hero of Retjenu

Romania entered the war in late 1916 on behalf of the Allies, renouncing
previously held Central alliances in order to gain Transylvania and meth, but their
presence yielded no major results. Russia, despite temporarily being rejuvenated by
Romania s entrance into the war, continued to crumble internally as animosity
towards the largely incompetent royal family grew, in large part due to Russia s
role in the war. In 1917, revolution overtook Russia, the monarchy being abolished
and multiple governments being established and subsequently toppled. The
Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, took power and upon German invasion of Ukraine
hesitantly agreed to the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, ceding vast swaths of land to the

US joined World War Iin 1917 in an effort to halt Germans naval attacks, despite
nonexistent public support, providing support for British and French troops in

1918, dividing and conquering British and French troops in an effort to end the war
in victory before the US arrived. The German troops initially appeared victorious,
utilizing revolutionary battlefield tactics to regain large swaths of territory, but
ultimately they failed to hold this territory due in large part to a lack of supplies. The
Allies launched a counteroffensive strike in 1918 beginning in August of 1918,
quickly decimating German progress and sending them reeling. They waged quick
attacks on the Germans, withdrawing before a counterattack could be made,
continuously assaulting the Hindenburg line. German defeat was drawing near, and
with that fate in mind the German soldiers openly rebelled, refusing to participate in

Rhetorical Analysis Of Address At Brandenburg Gate
Rhetorical Analysis of Address at Brandenburg Gate In President Reagan s speech
regarding the Berlin wall entitled Address at Brandenburg Gate delivered on June
12th, 1987, Reagan takes the position as the rhetor with the sole purpose of
convincing the city of Berlin to unite and get rid of the wall separating the city in
two. The wall is described by Reagan multiple times and is described to be both a
physical and non physical wall. Most of the city is separated by the physical wall
and those that aren t are heavily guarded and prevent travel to the other side. The
discourse was intended to not only be heard by the leader of the Soviet Union,
Mikhail Gorbachev, but by most of Europe and North America. The exigency in

Intended audiences and actual audiences in speeches and other discourses provide
the rhetor the opportunity to create a solid persuasive argument. Reagan mainly
was directing his speech to the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. He wanted to
persuade Gorbachev to remove the wall and travel ban that was in place to benefit
east Germany s economy and society. A very clear example of how the speech was
directed to Gorbachev was when Reagan stated, and I invite Mr. Gorbachev: Let us
work to bring the Eastern and Western parts of the city closer together (233) This is
directed to Gorbachev because in the end, he was the one in charge and he got to
make the decision. President Reagan was speaking to many other people as well.
Despite them not having much of a say in if the wall was removed, civilians could
still make a change if they were persuaded enough. Reagan does not directly speak
to the people as much as he does to Gorbachev, however, he is clear that he wants
others to hear the message. This is specified by President Reagan when he said Our
gathering today is being broadcast throughout Western Europe and North America. I
understand that it is being seen and heard as well in the East. (230) This statement
defines the actual audience as Western and Eastern Europeans as well as North
Americans. Creating Kairos with the intended audience and the actual audiences gave

Why Is William Mckinley Unjust
One of the greatest American presidents of all time, William McKinley, began his
career in politics as a senator. He served here for 14 years, up until he was elected
governor of Ohio (Rubel 4). After his time as governor McKinley was elected
president of the United States. In Buffalo, New York, an attempt was made on his
life by anarchist named Leon Czolgosz (San Francisco Call 2). He died eight days
later on September 14, 1901 from gangrene infections in his wounds. His
assassination completely and utterly unjust. He was an exquisite, bright, and ethical
American President. While he was in office, he led the United Statesto victory in the
100 Day War, and protected U.S. industry by raising tariffs. While some people
might say he overused his power as president, this is simply not true whatsoever.
First of all, William McKinley ended and won the 100 Day War. He crushed the
Spanish navy outside of Santiago Bay, Cuba (White House 4). After his victory in
Cuba, McKinley ordered the U.S. navy to move towards the Philippines. There, the
navy was able to seize Manilla, and establish U.S. control of the islands. This ended
the war, and allowed the U.S. to annex Puerto Rico. This is one reason that his
assassination was unjust. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of his term, the depression of 1893 was coming to an end. The
price of U.S. goods had risen to their highest point in years (White House 6). This
was putting the American economy in Danger because foreign goods were more
cost effective, and were now being mass produced. McKinley recognized this danger,
and called congress into session. He had congress raise tariffs to their highest point,
which made U.S. goods much cheaper than their foreign counterparts (Rubel 6). This
helped to protect U.S. industry which made his killing more
Government Business Relations
Government business relations American businesses wield much political powers.
This has been there for quite some time. Prior to the Civil War, some Americans
worried less about the power of businesses. This was partly due to the fact that firms
at this time were relatively small. This restricted the powers of the proprietors to local
political arenas. When multinational corporations emerged in the late 19th Century
the role played by businesses in the political scenes completely changed. Tensions
were exhibited between the nation s central economic institutions and democratic
heritage largely due to industrial capitalism. This has since characterized American
political landscape. No wonder, Americans have had a misconception that money is
only evil when used to buy power but not when it s used to buy political goods
(Huntington, 1987). Economic inequalities are only evil when they are translated
into political inequalities. American businesses in deed have too much political
power. Think of the late 19th century to the beginning of WW1 when power of trusts
dominated American politics. Political commentators contended that in as much as
liberty produced wealth, wealth played a central role in destroying liberty. The
governments of the day partnered with proprietors of great business. This was
exemplified in the undertakings of the Standard Oil back then (Demarest, 1963).
Some commentators argued that politics was a struggle between the robbers and the
robbed. There

Jean-Jacques Rousseau Discourse
Jean Jacques Rousseau was one of the most influential thinkers during the
Enlightenment in eighteenth century Europe. His first major philosophical work, A
Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, was the winning response to an essay contest
conducted by the Academy of Dijon in 1750. When Rousseau wrote this he made
an argument about the progression of certain sciences. He explained that virtue and
morality was brought by theses sciences. These works brought on extraordinary
contention in France and were quickly prohibited by Paris specialists. Rousseau fled
France and settled in Switzerland, however he kept on discovering challenges with
experts and squabble with companions. The finish of Rousseau s life was set apart in

The Origin of Inequality is much different from the first discourse for many and
particular reasons. What I noticed about this discourse is that Rousseau made it into
four different parts, a first part, a second part, a section specifically dedicated to the
republic of Geneva, and a prophase. The extent of Rousseau s venture is not
essentially unique in relation to that of Hobbes in the Leviathan or Locke in the
Second Treatise on Government. Like them, Rousseau comprehends society to be an
innovation, and he endeavors to clarify the way of people by stripping them of the
greater part of the inadvertent qualities achieved by socialization. In this way,
understanding human instinct adds up to understanding what people resemble in an
immaculate condition of nature. This unmistakable difference a glaring difference to
the established view, most remarkably that of Aristotle, which guarantees that the
condition of common society is the regular human state. Like Hobbes and Locke it is
dubious that Rousseau implied his pursuers to comprehend the unadulterated
condition of nature that he depicts in the Second Discourse as a strict verifiable
record. In its opening, he says that it must be denied that men were ever in the
immaculate condition of nature, referring to disclosure as a source which reveals to
us that God straightforwardly enriched the principal man with comprehension (a limit

highly influenced by employee benefits packages considered to be good (Paterson,

translates to both retaining current employees and enticing new candidates to join, an
area in which a top employee benefits package is a major contributor. With this

but does not get through to them because of Harry s anger and rage. With a little
help from surprise visitors Harry realizes the truth and his judgment changes toward
Sirius. Sirius tells him he was tricked and that he was partly responsible for their
death. But he would do anything to change the past. He was then appointed Harry s

Macs. Everyone has their own opinion on which is better, and there are many die

reasons, yet the Mac system is actually the more durable and useful of the two.
Firstly we will consider software availability. The majority of computer users own PC

more profitable to develop software that is for use on a PC instead of a Mac. There is
such a variety of software written for PC s that is unavailable for Macs that it could...

Revolution, and communism , but he wasn t involved in those incidents in his life

Furthermore, Balanchine s, The Nutcracker, has made a profound effect on the
public by making ballet more exclusive than it has been, which was the contrast
from the heart of ballet (Gottlieb 129). What this quote is explaining how George
Balanchine s ballet is defying what traditional ballet was about and he wanted it to
be a spectacle to all the people who see it. Also, with the creation of The
Nutcracker, it allowed children to join ballet without being discouraged by others.
The reason why this is the case is that this particular dance brings children on stage
just like how young Balanchine was on stage for Maryinsky (Gottlieb 129). This
demonstrates Balanchine s idea of contesting the status quo of traditional ballet and
thus breaking barriers of elitism in ballet. Moreover, the reason why George
Balanchine s performance, The Nutcracker, supports the class theme of challenging
the status quo of ballet is that it was new for all people being introduced to
Balanchine s ballet since ballet was initially inclusive, where only a few groups with
experience would watch traditional ballet, but with this performance many people
can enjoy what ballet is like without any required experience. Continuing from the
previous point, this particular dance involves the movement of arms and legs. Also,
there are a lot of
The Perception Of Visual Perception
Everyday our brain receive a big number of information from the environment around
us. Eyes and other sense organs, collects sensory inputs and transmits them to the
brain. What is happening next? The answer can be found in a process known as
perception. But what is it exactly? Perception is the mental activity of interpreting the
impressions received through the senses of sight, hearing, tasting, feeling and
smelling (MacMillan and Powell, 1973). In other words, it is a process of taking
information about the environment and giving it meaning. How the brainattaches
meaning to the sensory information? The understanding of the mechanisms of this
process was discussed widely among philosophers in the past, but because of its
complexity it is still a popular topic in contemporary psychology. One of the most
popular issue is visual perception. Some people say that vision is our most dominant
sense. Without direct contact, from the light that enters our eyes to the complex
cognitive processes that follow, we derive most of our information about what
things are, where they are, and how they move from our vision (Wade, Swanson
2013). The process of seeing is directly connected with our brain by a light sensitive
membrane in the back of the eye, called the retina. The lens of the eye focuses light
on the layer of cells in retina, subsequently light is converted into neuronal signals,
processed and sent to the primary and secondary visual cortex of the brain. However,

Bee Species Research Paper
Bee species in the United States and around the world are being put on the
endangered species list. Bees are a very important part of our food supply and
everyday lives. Bees do more than you think, and there are several reasons to why
they are going extinct. Bees are an essential part of our food supply. Most people
think that bees only make honeyfor us to eat, but that is certainly not all they do.
Bees pollinate flowers which allows fruits and vegetables to grow. Just imagine what
our lives would be life would be like without fruits and vegetables. If the bees didn t
pollinate flowers, than grass wouldn t grow either. This means that we would not
have anything for our meat animals to eat. Without bees, we would not have honey,
fruits,
The Legal Forms Of Business
Final Paper: Legal Forms of Business Samantha Simpfenderfer Cazenovia College
When developing and establishing a business, a business owner must first consider
what type of legal business that they would like to create and own. In the United
States, businesses that vary in form are recognized and represented in court in
varying ways. In some forms of business, the personal assets of the business owner
are not protected, where in others, a business owner could never risk losing assets
outside of their businesses. Of the various forms of businesses that can exist, five of
the most popular forms are sole proprietorships, franchises, partnerships, limited
liability companies, and corporations. Different businesses all around the... Show

When one person owns, operates, and manages a business, they get to make all of
the leadership decisions as they see fit, and for some, being their own boss,
without having anyone to answer to is the only way that they can be successful. In
addition to a variety of advantages, there are also an assortment of downfalls
associated with owning a sole proprietorship. First and foremost, the legal structure
of a sole proprietorship provides no protection for the founder against creditors of
the business (Harroch). This means that the business owner can easily be sued
with absolutely no legal protection. One legal issue can potentially put a sole
proprietorship out of businesses as the legal process is expensive and long lasting,
and combining these two issues, very few sole proprietorships have the ability to
withstand them. Others shy away from sole proprietorships because often times the
startup costs of opening a business (like buying property and equipment) are too
hefty for one person to invest all by themselves. Businesses could potentially be
expensive to start, and if capital is required from other investors it will not be
available from sole proprietors (Harroch). It is important to recognize that many large,
nationwide, and valuable businesses have found their roots

How can be more efficiency? These are best ways to practice juggling various

The Portrayal Of The Catholic Church
The Portrayal of the Catholic Church in Film The Catholic Church as we know it is
much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and
tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church are heard.
If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking
about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the
exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays
government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice
system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules
over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the
case. The CatholicChurch had great influence on the government. The church
actually was the government in some countries who operated under a theocratic
ruling. With Godbeing the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power.
The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and
everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had access
to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one
could think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not
Christian into a Christian, and to conquer lands that were not under Christian rule and
use them under the power of the Catholic Church. The goal of the inquisition was to

Summary Of John Knowles A Separate Peace
A Separate Peace takes place in the middle of World War II, at a boarding school in
New England for boys. The author John Knowles uses this setting and its characters
as a form of comparison to the war going on half a world away, both physically and
metaphorically. At the school, John Knowles stages this metaphorical warinside the
mind of the protagonist, Gene Forrester, who engages in a different war
throughout the course of the novel. When the novel concludes Gene says My war
ended before I even put on a uniform; I was on active duty all my time at school; I
killed my enemy there (196) as he reflects on his time at Devon. At first glance Gene
could appear to be referencing the event in which he caused the death of his best
friend, Finny.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The events in the novel also give way to the author s perspective on war(s) in
general, not just the one happening at the time. By having Gene s internal battle
correlate with the war the boys were training to fight in, Knowles conveys the idea
that everybody will be at war with themselves at a time in their life. Another
example of a war against one s self is the character Leper Lepellier s war with his
sanity. He fights so hard to keep it, but the struggle inside his head is harder to win
than any superficial war: The idea of his face on a woman s body. That s what
made me psycho. Ideas like that. I don t know. I guess they must be right. I guess I
am psycho. I guess I must be. I must be (141). Leper has gone to fight in the war,
done his duty for his country, and subsequently now has to fight the conflict
happening in his mind. He second guesses his sanity, which only makes the battle
harder. The fictional character of Leper is an example of one of many people who
have fought in a war, only to return home to find a completely different war waiting
for them. Another instance in which Knowles shows his thoughts on war is when
Gene first begins to hate Finny. He is convinced Finny is trying to stop him from
succeeding in school, a thought created by his envy for Finny: I sensed it like a
sense of relief when nausea passes away; I felt better. We were even after all, even
in enmity. The dead rivalry was on both sides after all (46). Gene s conflict with
Finny is another
How Gender Roles ( The Way A Person Acts Based On
Their Sex
Games are socially constructed entities and often have a certain set of
conventional rules. The world is home to billions of people said people make up a
society. Societies are broken down in larger social groupings but share similar
attributes like geographical location, culture, and economics. From these, groups
can be broken down even further to subcultures such as LGBT, deaf, and emo.
Individuals absorb knowledge from living in a society that builds a general view of
constructivism in a social setting. Taking part in social grouping expands their
cognitive development of a person this knowledge becomes the building blocks of
the behaviors in which an individual acts upons. Throughout this paper, I will explain
how genderroles ( the way a person acts based on their sex), cultural representations
(views based on race) and social practices (such as dating and marriage) serve as
guidance to the development of an individual s behaviors but do not define a persons
identity. Early in history and still today a societal normis this idea of dating; a human
mating process where two engage socially for companionship beyond the level of
friends. Overtime, dating has slightly changed but the main idea still remain the
same each individual is assessing the other s attributes in order to determine if they
are suitable as a partner in an intimate relationship which in hopes would form into a
marriage. The societal norm is understood that people should aspired to find a partner
Symbols In The Book Thief
Symbolic and Literal Meaning of Stealing The Book Thief is a story about a girl
who had lost her mother and brother and was sent to live with foster parents.
Throughout her life of living with her foster parents she had developed a
characteristic of stealing. In the story thievery is a symbolic meaning is by she
had, had her life stolen from her in a way, it is also a literal meaning by she steals
things, materialistic objects. This is important to the story because she it is a big
part of the story. She becomes known to people as the book thief . In the story the
author Markus Zusakuses thievery as a symbolic meaning by first her mother taking
her and her brother to live with foster parents. Then while on the way to being
dropped off her brother had died. In a way she kind of had her life stolen from her.
She was taken away from her friends and family as she knew it and put into a

she only stole five books in the entirety of the story, those five books were all
important because the it wasn t like she was stealing only one book someone had
lost. She had stolen five and she was the book thief. The first book she stole as they
were burying her brother, the second book was from a pile of burning books, and
the last three were from the mayor s library. Though the books were not the only
things she had stolen the books were the main point. (Zusak, 29) The book thief
had struck for the first time the beginning of an illustrious career . That is important
because it is telling the readers that this will not be the only time that Liesel will

in the future of the book. It also tells that this is her first time stealing a book by

Analysis Of Chains By Laurie Halse Anderson
Chains , written by Laurie Halse Anderson, tells the story of an 11 year slave
named Isabel. The novel depicts the struggles faced by Isabel when bought by Mr.
and Madam Lockton and the hope and motivation gained through Isabel s
relationships with her sister, ruth, a rebel slave, Curzon, the Lockton s servant,
Becky, and Lady Seymour, Mr. Lockton s wealthy aunt. Chains exhibits a lesson to
stay hopeful in times of despair. When the protagonist, Isabel, says, She cannot chain
my soul. Yes, she can hurt me. She d already done so. she shows this hopefulness.
Madam beats Isabel and sells Ruth to cause Isabel pain. Regardless of this, Isabel
remains curious and optimistic. Although, Isabel is legally chained to the Lockton...

Should she aid the rebels or play it safe and attempt to please the Lockton s? Prior
to her arrest, Isabel thought that being a spy for the rebels would be beneficial and
lead her to freedom. After her arrest, Isabel hears that the British promised to free
all slaves that assist them. This conflict of interest was memorable, because it
showed me that decisions and mistakes I make, although menial compared to Isabel
s, will not ruin my entire life. I think it is also memorable because it shows that
Isabel s adolescence is authentic. Most teeenagers today are indecisive, just like
teenagers in the 1770s. Although the author makes emotional connection, she also
presents information that you would find in a history textbook in a new light.
Anderson does this by incorporating terms that may be learned in history class such
as loyalist, indentured servant, and regiment into a plot. For example, Isabel was
befriended by an indentured servant, she worked for a loyalist family, and her friend
was apart of a rebel regiment. It s interesting to see the author eloquently incorporate
these terms into a historical fiction story. This book has increased my interest in the
subject matter of slavery. The book has peaked my interest, because it just gives the
reader a look at what life was like for slaves. The abuse and injustice just shows how
important rights are and that they should not be taken for granted. This book ignited
a fire inside of
Polygamy Essay
Polygamy is the practice of having more than one spouse and is culturally
accepted in many parts of the world, but is illegal in the United States. There are
two well known forms of polygamy, both of which are still presently practiced in
numerous cultures globally, polygyny and polyandry. These practices take place in
societies where it is important to have either more men or more women in a families
household based on the kind of environment they reside in. This paper is going to
take a look at who practices polygamy, the history of polygamy in the United States,
and how this kind of polygamous lifestyle affects the children that are the products of
these familystructures.

In industrialized societies, it is something that has been made illegal, and is
considered deviant. When most people think of polygamy they think of polygyny,
the marriage of one man with multiple wives, and endless children. Here in the
United States the most common occurrence of polygamy was in the 1800s,
through the Mormon religion, and more specifically the Church of Jesus Christ and
the Latter Day Saints. Through the reading of the Bible, the leader of the Latter
Day Saints church, Joseph Smith, had revelations that encouraged him take a
second wife as many of the members of the Old Testament had done. The rest of
the United States reacted negatively to polygamy and Congress passed several laws
prohibited polygamy. However, Mormons continued to practice polygamy despite
these laws because they believed it was within their right to do so based on the Bill
of Rights which protected freedom of religion (Embry 2016).
Polygamy has been illegal in the United States since 1878, when the U.S. Supreme
Court ruled that freedom to practice the Mormon religion did not extend to having
multiple wives (Reynolds v United States 1878). Federal law does not allow
prospective immigrants who practice polygamy into the United States. Although,
there has been polygamy found in New York among some immigrants from countries
in which
D-Day The Invasion Of Normandy Essay

Great Britain arrived at the beaches of Normandy and their main objective was to

Nazi s had occupied France at the time and had taken control. France was part of
the allied forces and was under attack by the Nazi s. As part of the Allied Powers
America, Canada, and Great Britain came to the rescue. Dwight Eisenhower was
the leader behind this invasion. In December 1943, Eisenhower was put in charge
of Operation Overlord the long waited for attack on mainland Europe. Such an
attack would require detailed and meticulous planning which is why Eisenhower
was picked to lead this plan by the combined chief of staffs. In excerpts from
General Eisenhower s document the Order of The Day which he gave to the
soldiers on D Day he states In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms
on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine,
the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and
security for ourselves in a free world. / But this is the year 1944!/The tide has

confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept
nothing less than full victory!(Eisenhower 1944). General Eisenhower explains that
the allies should come together, and they will bring forth destruction upon the
Germans. He also states that in the document they will force the Nazi s out of
Europe and France will be freed. Eisenhower
Common Characters Of Hellman And Batman, Iron Man
And Batman
What is a comic book hero, and why do they struggle so much with their identities?
A common definition for a hero is a person admired for achievements and noble
qualities . However, as we all may know comic book heroes are vastly different from
this. Throughout our lives almost everybody has been exposed to the comic book
hero or superherothat our society seems so obsessed over. We love to read about
and watch these fantastical characters fly around and save the day. But there is one
unsettling truth that is seen in almost every comic book hero, their secret identity
and everything it holds. Perhaps the biggest secret for each of these heroes is their
identity. This secret can mean life or death not only them but all of their loved
ones as well, and all that is protecting them is a little fabric mask on their face. This
since of fear that each character must live with is underlining theme that takes
place in virtually all comic book hero stories. So as the readers of these comics and
watchers of these movies, we must ask ourselves as how can such powerful people
live in such a state of fear? In addition to this, can this use of a heroes alter egobe
compared to us normal people and our alter egos that we create online? In order to
answer how these heroes can live in such a state of fear I want to look at two
common characters from both comics and the movies, Iron Man and Batman. First I
would like to clarify that while comic books are such a rich part of our history, due

Arguments Essay

  • 1. Arguments Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Arguments Essay" can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the multifaceted nature of argumentative essays, which require a thorough understanding of the chosen subject, the ability to critically analyze various perspectives, and the skill to articulate a well-structured argument. Firstly, selecting a compelling and relevant topic is crucial. This involves identifying a contentious issue that allows for multiple viewpoints and arguments. Once the topic is chosen, extensive research becomes a necessity. It's essential to delve into various credible sources to gather evidence and support for the arguments. Constructing a coherent and logical argument is another hurdle. This requires the writer to organize their thoughts systematically, ensuring a smooth flow of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Each argument should be well-supported with evidence, and counterarguments should be addressed to strengthen the overall position. Additionally, mastering the art of persuasive writing is paramount. The language used must be clear, concise, and convincing. Striking the right balance between assertiveness and respect for opposing views is challenging, as is maintaining an unbiased tone throughout the essay. Moreover, crafting a captivating introduction and a powerful conclusion adds to the complexity. The introduction must grab the reader's attention and provide a clear thesis statement, while the conclusion should summarize the main points and leave a lasting impression. • 2. The Uniform Crime Report Essay The Uniform Crime Report, which was developed in the 1930s, is commonly used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a record of crimes committed all across the United States. These crimes, which fall under two categories, Part I and Part II offenses, are reported by local police to the Federal Bureau of Investigation each year. Part I offenses are considered to be the more serious of crimes recognized by society. Such examples of this are homicide, forcible rape, robbery, arson, motor vehicle theft, etc. Part II offenses are those that are considered less serious, such as fraud, simple assault, drug abuse, gambling, stolen property, embezzlement, etc. Part I crimes can also be subdivided into what are known as violent crimes and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Criminal profilers can use the information from the Uniform Crime Report to presume that the shooter was that of another African American man, possibly gang related. Although a crime is reported in the Uniform Crime Report does not mean that the arrestee in that crime is representative of the population. It is easy to misinterpret the Uniform Crime Report and generalize a certain race or even gender to a particular crime. We often see poor, nonwhite males in the Uniform Crime Report for committing Part I crimes. This diverts the attention away from the wealthy white businessman who might be a part of white collar crime. White collar crime is hardly represented in this type of crime measurement (Barkan, 2012). However, measurements of crime using the Uniform Crime Report are not completely accurate either. Local police officers often do not report crimes that they think are not substantial enough. Only the more serious crimes (Part I crimes) are the ones that they feel deserve the time and effort doing paper work for to be reported in the Uniform Crime Report. This means that a lot of Part II cases go unreported by police and, once again, the white collar crimes are over looked meaning the Uniform Crime Report is not accurate (Barkan, 2012). The only crimes that can be reported into the Uniform Crime Report are ones that are known by police. In some instances,

Tom and Prince Edward look remarkably alike. When the two have the opportunity to meet, they begin to talk about changing places. 15 Tell me more, the prince said eagerly. What do you do with your friends? 16 We sometimes have stick fights and we run races. In the summer, we go wading in the canals. We have water battles in the river, splashing each other all over the place. 17 How I would love that! cried Edward. If only I could do those things just once! But go on. 18 And at the river s edge, we bury each other in the sand and make pies with lovely, oozing mud. There s nothing like it for fun in the whole world.
  • 4. Black Death Of The 14th Century Analysis The Black Death of the fourteenth century was an extremely deadly pandemic that killed off around half of Europe s population. It acted quickly, killing the people who contracted it within three days once they displayed any symptoms. It s no surprise that the people who were affected reacted the way they did. In terms of the responses, those of the Black Deathand those of Zika, Ebola, and HIV AIDS were actually very similar in how the fear the outbreaks produced overwhelmed the masses into being overprotective and paranoid for their own wellbeing. According to Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron, hundreds of Florentine citizens would die daily, and those who have not met that fate yet would have to walk along the streets inhaling putrid scents ... No one had an idea of what it was and how it worked; everyone simply relied on the fact that once you had it, you were as good as dead. On top of sex being somewhat of a taboo topic in American society, there was also a significant amount of discrimination towards the gay communities, and once it was known that it was common because of members having several partners, HIV became more of a stereotype. Gay members were shunned and isolated even more than they already were, with people not wanting to even be near them. Fear was not the only factor that affected society and fostered hostility towards others; the pre existent stigma against gay people always played a

The approach builds on historical treatment methods like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which though exceptionally effective in the short term, often sees a return of depressive symptoms. Compounding the problem with ECT was the increased tolerance some patients showed, thus requiring higher and higher voltage dosages to achieve the same results, not unlike drug tolerance, and side effects like generalized mental confusion in the immediate aftermath of the therapy. With the help of an ex hacker, Curador was eventually tracked down and sentenced. All of this was explained in a frontline interview with Curador himself also known as Raphael Gray. Who are these so called hackers? Are peoples assumptions about teenage hackers correct? In 1995 the movie Hackers portrayed the images and lifestyles of hackers similar to the one mentioned above. The article, Finding ones own in cyberspace by Amy Bruckman, explains how anyone can form their own cyber community. Bruckman says, the way a community is publicized or not publicized also influences its character (175). Even though the hacker society has not been publicized, they are still around. Hackers publicize the information that they want other people to hear. Their prerogative is to portray themselves the way they want to be known. In an interview conducted with researcher Sarah Gordon, who studies the psychology of virus writers and hackers, she states, There are lots of kids just out joyriding on computer systems. Not everyone knows what they are doing or how serious they are affecting other people. Therefore, many different cyber communities are formed including a few for hackers. Also shown in Hackers is the idea that hackers not only come together through the internet, but also in the real world. Everyday hackers do not limit their meeting places to just the cyber places as shown in the film. The hytec environment such as raves is easy for Hollywood to associate with hackers. However, raves and cyberspace are not the only places for hackers to meet. They can also meet anywhere such as a coffee shop or a park. Hackers tend to be perceived as people with an addiction or infatuation with computers. The movie shows the main character staying up all hours of the night and not really getting any sleep. The lynchings were publicized in newspaper ads and were so accepted that postcards showing pictures of the event were sold as souvenirs. To counter the claims that resulted in these punishments, many activists, including Ida B. Wells, wrote speeches depicting the harsh and racist reality of lynchings. Despite the criticism of Wells and many other authors and activists, lynching persisted in the United States for a substantial period of time. Lynchings were so frequent in Southern states that Montgomery, Alabama, has plans to build a lynching memorial to recognize the mistreatment of black citizens and memorialize the victims. However, lynchings then were not the public disgrace they are now considered, and the unjust treatment of black citizens continued even after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Activists like Wells have continued to identify racism when they see it in hopes to create a more equal society, but many would argue that an equal society still has not been

In most of Costa Rica, ancient instruments like ocarinas are being replaced by international instruments like accordions and guitars. There are still folk styles, outside of Guanacaste, such as the Talamanca s Danza de los Huelos and the Boruca s Danza de los Diablitos. Guanacaste is the major regin for Costa Rican folk music, especially pre Columbian styles like the Danza del Sol and Danza de la Luna of the Chorotega, who also made popular the ancient quijongo (a single string bow and gourd resonator) and native oboe, the chirimia. Costa Rica s population never developed a major rhythm or style that became a major part of popular music, and Costa Rica has not produced a great literary or other artistic tradition. There have been exceptions, such as the Costa Rican landscape school of painting in the 1920s. In the late 1980s local artists and bands became famous for having their own original material, such as JosГ© Capmany, CafГ© con Leche and Inconsciente Colectivo; some of them had fans from outside of Costa Rica, like Editus, a Grammy winning contemporary jazz ensemble. Balian, our main character who we follow throughout the movie, is the leader of the Christian crusaders. In the beginning, he is seen in France, at the grave of his wife, who had committed suicide after the death of their children. The crusaders come to France, and offer a position with them to Balian. At first, he does not want to go, but after killing a man, he catches up with the crusaders and joins them in their battles. He meets, and eventually falls in love with the Queen, Sybilla. He goes through many battles, and eventually ends it all with a truce with Saladin. In the following paragraphs, I will now explain to you the inaccuracies of this movie. My first topic is on Balian. To start off, he was not, and never lived, in France. In result, he never needed to catch up with the crusaders, being that he was already living in Jerusalem. The opening of the movie is him with his wife s grave, praying, because she had committed suicide. In reality, she never did. Balian was shown as an illegitimate child, not knowing his father.... The actual process would begin when the boy was 7, all the way up to the age of 21. The article Becoming a Knight states that Knighthood training was a long and often arduous process (Alchin). This is showing that those men could not have even gotten a fraction of the training other knights had gotten in that short of a period of time from being knighted to the start of the fighting at the

On a cloudy, partially rainy saturday morning, I laid out on the couch and watched the movie from the comfort of my own home. I was hesitant to watch this movie because I am not much of a musical person. About midway through I found myself at the edge of my seat hypnotized by the movie. As the movie drew to an end, I was completely sucked in and waited for something more. The movie I so dreadfully did not want to watch became something I did not want to end. In this movie the director and composer correlated their scenes and musicperfectly together to touch the thoughts and emotions of the audience watching. The Newsies movie is based on a group of young strong hearted newspaper boys that run the streets of New york City provoking newspaper sales just to have some food on the table for them to eat. Every morning the boys wake up early to go buy copies of the latest newspaper before it is all sold out. During a time when nothing media worthy was going on in New York City, greedy media moguls raised the prices of newspapers so they could stay cushioned on top of their business empires; however, raising the prices of newspaper on the boys meant less profit for them. The price raise did not settle well with the boys, and they began a strike to lower the prices. In doing so they earned the name Newsies. As the movie began to conclude, the

  • 26. The Hymn Of Sinuhe Analysis President Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, Men are not prisoners of Fate, but only prisoners of their own minds. This quote around the end of the Great Depression and during the global crisis leading up to World War II seems to embody even in 2017 the can do attitude of America, a nation today that s strongest belief seems to be free will and the power of personal opinion and choice. In contrast, The Hymn of Sinuhe , establishes and takes for granted the concept that the gods and thereby kings are the only one who have control over fate, while using poetic style and tone to praise Sinuhe and gloss over Sinuhe s constant denial of responsibility for his decisions that can give people today an opposing viewpoint to learn from in light of the centrality of free will in other religions and time periods. Sinuhe reflects on his motivation for flight (pg. 67), after Sinuhe s battle with the hero of Retjenu he proceeds to credit the gods with both his victory and his prior loss of a home. Sinuhe says, For now God has acted so as to be gracious to one with whom He was offended, whom He led astray to another country. Today, He is satisfied (pg.67). Sinuhe s message is one consistent with many religious ideals of the time, that the gods have overarching control over the lives of people on earth and only they can intercede on the people s behalf if the person s actions are pleasing to them. However, Sinuhe also implies that it was never his decision to desert the army and flee his homeland. In a line that could be simply blended into the surrounding religious ideas and glossed over due to the language of praise that Sinuhe is offering to the gods, his attitude and belief remain that he is at the mercy of a god who has led him astray to another country . Also, the intent of this hymn is to glorify its speaker, Sinuhe, but the under Sinuhe s respect for the gods he tends to fail to not only take notice of the possibility that it might have been he himself who had led him away from his homeland. The portion of the hymn leading into Sinuhe s crisis of identity and motivation also points towards Sinuhe s worldview. In lines 237 256 the epic tells the tale of Sinuhe s triumph over the hero of Retjenu

While some people might say he overused his power as president, this is simply not true whatsoever. First of all, William McKinley ended and won the 100 Day War. He crushed the Spanish navy outside of Santiago Bay, Cuba (White House 4). After his victory in Cuba, McKinley ordered the U.S. navy to move towards the Philippines. • 30. Government Business Relations Government business relations American businesses wield much political powers. This has been there for quite some time. Prior to the Civil War, some Americans worried less about the power of businesses. This was partly due to the fact that firms at this time were relatively small. This restricted the powers of the proprietors to local political arenas. When multinational corporations emerged in the late 19th Century the role played by businesses in the political scenes completely changed. Tensions were exhibited between the nation s central economic institutions and democratic heritage largely due to industrial capitalism. This has since characterized American political landscape. No wonder, Americans have had a misconception that money is only evil when used to buy power but not when it s used to buy political goods (Huntington, 1987). Economic inequalities are only evil when they are translated into political inequalities. American businesses in deed have too much political power. Think of the late 19th century to the beginning of WW1 when power of trusts dominated American politics. Political commentators contended that in as much as liberty produced wealth, wealth played a central role in destroying liberty. The governments of the day partnered with proprietors of great business. This was exemplified in the undertakings of the Standard Oil back then (Demarest, 1963). Some commentators argued that politics was a struggle between the robbers and the robbed. There

His first major philosophical work, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, was the winning response to an essay contest conducted by the Academy of Dijon in 1750. When Rousseau wrote this he made an argument about the progression of certain sciences. He explained that virtue and morality was brought by theses sciences. These works brought on extraordinary contention in France and were quickly prohibited by Paris specialists. Rousseau fled France and settled in Switzerland, however he kept on discovering challenges with experts and squabble with companions. The Origin of Inequality is much different from the first discourse for many and particular reasons. What I noticed about this discourse is that Rousseau made it into four different parts, a first part, a second part, a section specifically dedicated to the republic of Geneva, and a prophase. The extent of Rousseau s venture is not essentially unique in relation to that of Hobbes in the Leviathan or Locke in the Second Treatise on Government. Like them, Rousseau comprehends society to be an innovation, and he endeavors to clarify the way of people by stripping them of the greater part of the inadvertent qualities achieved by socialization. In this way, understanding human instinct adds up to understanding what people resemble in an immaculate condition of nature. This unmistakable difference a glaring difference to the established view, most remarkably that of Aristotle, which guarantees that the condition of common society is the regular human state. Like Hobbes and Locke it is dubious that Rousseau implied his pursuers to comprehend the unadulterated condition of nature that he depicts in the Second Discourse as a strict verifiable record. In its opening, he says that it must be denied that men were ever in the immaculate condition of nature, referring to disclosure as a source which reveals to us that God straightforwardly enriched the principal man with comprehension (a limit

The leadership team s determination and call for organizational growth, translates to both retaining current employees and enticing new candidates to join, an area in which a top employee benefits package is a major contributor. Ballet introduces the use of using pointe dances where the dancer uses the tip of their toes to perform various dances. One unique person who has changed ballet to be more accessible to people and included diversity in the type of dancers who can perform is George Balanchine. George Balanchine was born in St. Petersburg, Russia 1904, where Russia was experiencing World War 1, the Russian Revolution, and communism , but he wasn t involved in those incidents in his life (Gottlieb 8). Furthermore, Balanchine s, The Nutcracker, has made a profound effect on the public by making ballet more exclusive than it has been, which was the contrast from the heart of ballet (Gottlieb 129). What this quote is explaining how George Balanchine s ballet is defying what traditional ballet was about and he wanted it to be a spectacle to all the people who see it. Also, with the creation of The Nutcracker, it allowed children to join ballet without being discouraged by others. The reason why this is the case is that this particular dance brings children on stage just like how young Balanchine was on stage for Maryinsky (Gottlieb 129). This demonstrates Balanchine s idea of contesting the status quo of traditional ballet and thus breaking barriers of elitism in ballet. Moreover, the reason why George Balanchine s performance, The Nutcracker, supports the class theme of challenging the status quo of ballet is that it was new for all people being introduced to Balanchine s ballet since ballet was initially inclusive, where only a few groups with experience would watch traditional ballet, but with this performance many people can enjoy what ballet is like without any required experience. Continuing from the previous point, this particular dance involves the movement of arms and legs. Also, there are a lot of

Eyes and other sense organs, collects sensory inputs and transmits them to the brain. What is happening next? The answer can be found in a process known as perception. But what is it exactly? Perception is the mental activity of interpreting the impressions received through the senses of sight, hearing, tasting, feeling and smelling (MacMillan and Powell, 1973). In other words, it is a process of taking information about the environment and giving it meaning. How the brainattaches meaning to the sensory information? The understanding of the mechanisms of this process was discussed widely among philosophers in the past, but because of its complexity it is still a popular topic in contemporary psychology. One of the most popular issue is visual perception. Some people say that vision is our most dominant sense. Without direct contact, from the light that enters our eyes to the complex cognitive processes that follow, we derive most of our information about what things are, where they are, and how they move from our vision (Wade, Swanson 2013). The process of seeing is directly connected with our brain by a light sensitive membrane in the back of the eye, called the retina. The lens of the eye focuses light on the layer of cells in retina, subsequently light is converted into neuronal signals, processed and sent to the primary and secondary visual cortex of the brain. However, the image

When one person owns, operates, and manages a business, they get to make all of the leadership decisions as they see fit, and for some, being their own boss, without having anyone to answer to is the only way that they can be successful. In addition to a variety of advantages, there are also an assortment of downfalls associated with owning a sole proprietorship. First and foremost, the legal structure of a sole proprietorship provides no protection for the founder against creditors of the business (Harroch). This means that the business owner can easily be sued with absolutely no legal protection. One legal issue can potentially put a sole proprietorship out of businesses as the legal process is expensive and long lasting, and combining these two issues, very few sole proprietorships have the ability to withstand them. Others shy away from sole proprietorships because often times the startup costs of opening a business (like buying property and equipment) are too hefty for one person to invest all by themselves. Businesses could potentially be expensive to start, and if capital is required from other investors it will not be available from sole proprietors (Harroch). It is important to recognize that many large, nationwide, and valuable businesses have found their roots

With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The CatholicChurch had great influence on the government. The author John Knowles uses this setting and its characters as a form of comparison to the war going on half a world away, both physically and metaphorically. At the school, John Knowles stages this metaphorical warinside the mind of the protagonist, Gene Forrester, who engages in a different war throughout the course of the novel. When the novel concludes Gene says My war ended before I even put on a uniform; I was on active duty all my time at school; I killed my enemy there (196) as he reflects on his time at Devon. At first glance Gene could appear to be referencing the event in which he caused the death of his best friend, Finny.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The events in the novel also give way to the author s perspective on war(s) in general, not just the one happening at the time. By having Gene s internal battle correlate with the war the boys were training to fight in, Knowles conveys the idea that everybody will be at war with themselves at a time in their life. Another example of a war against one s self is the character Leper Lepellier s war with his sanity. He fights so hard to keep it, but the struggle inside his head is harder to win than any superficial war: The idea of his face on a woman s body. That s what made me psycho. Ideas like that. I don t know. I guess they must be right. I guess I am psycho. I guess I must be. I must be (141). Leper has gone to fight in the war, done his duty for his country, and subsequently now has to fight the conflict happening in his mind. He second guesses his sanity, which only makes the battle harder. The fictional character of Leper is an example of one of many people who have fought in a war, only to return home to find a completely different war waiting for them. Another instance in which Knowles shows his thoughts on war is when Gene first begins to hate Finny. He is convinced Finny is trying to stop him from succeeding in school, a thought created by his envy for Finny: I sensed it like a sense of relief when nausea passes away; I felt better. We were even after all, even in enmity. The dead rivalry was on both sides after all (46). Gene s conflict with Finny is another

Societies are broken down in larger social groupings but share similar attributes like geographical location, culture, and economics. From these, groups can be broken down even further to subcultures such as LGBT, deaf, and emo.
