Argumentative Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of "Argumentative Essays" can be both challenging and rewarding.
The difficulty lies in the need to present a well-structured argument while effectively addressing
counterarguments. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main argument is
crucial, and supporting it with relevant evidence requires thorough research and critical thinking.
The process involves delving into various perspectives on the issue, analyzing the strengths and
weaknesses of each, and constructing a coherent narrative that persuades the reader to align with
the presented viewpoint. Balancing objectivity and persuasion is a delicate task, as the writer
must navigate through a sea of opinions while maintaining a clear stance.
Moreover, mastering the art of transitions is essential to ensure a seamless flow of ideas, guiding
the reader through the logical progression of the argument. Clarity and conciseness become
paramount, requiring the writer to express complex thoughts in a straightforward manner.
Citing credible sources and incorporating them effectively is another hurdle. Proper citation and
integration of evidence enhance the essay's credibility, but mishandling this aspect can result in a
weakened argument.
Revision is a crucial step in the essay-writing process. It demands a critical review of the
structure, content, and language, aiming for coherence and persuasiveness. Constructive
feedback from peers or instructors can be invaluable during this stage, helping to identify blind
spots and refine the argument further.
In essence, crafting an argumentative essay is an intellectually demanding task that demands a
synthesis of research skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. While the process
may be challenging, it provides a platform for honing essential skills that extend beyond
academic pursuits.

Romeo And Juliet Bad Blood Quotes
The song Bad Blood would fit in Act 3 scene 1. The beginning of the scene has
Romeo adamantly tell Tybalt that he refuses to fight, and instead says, But love thee
better than thou canst devise/ Till thou shalt know the reason of my love./ And so,
good Capulet, which name I tender/ As dearly as mine own, be satisfied (lines 70
73). This quote shows that Romeo loves Tybaltlike his own family, because he is,
though Tybalt does not know this. He will not fight Tybalt because he is Juliet s
cousin. Mercutiowould not allow Tybalt to disrespect Romeo, and so they both
fought. Although Romeo tried to break up the fight, Mercutio was stabbed and
killed by Tybalt. As soon as Romeo realized that Tybalt killed his best friend, he
forgets all about his decision to love Tybalt, and gets his revenge for the death of
Mercutio.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example from the song is, Now we got problems/ And I don t think we
can solve them/ You made a really deep cut/ And baby now we got bad blood . This
would be like how Romeo is furious with Tybalt, and that nothing would be able to
stop him from killing Tybalt for vengeance. An example of this would be when
Romeo says, Mercutio s soul/ Is but a little way above our heads,/ Staying for thine
to keep him company./ Either thou or I, or both, must go with him (lines 131 134).
Romeo in a sense trusted Tybalt because he was family, but because he killed
Mercutio, he lost that
Rhetorical Analysis Of Tear Down This Wall
In summer of 1987, President Ronald Reagan spoke to the citizens of Germany at the
Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Throughout his speech, Tear Down This Wall , Ronald
Reagan uses rhetorical techniques in order to convince Germany to accept western
democracy and oppose the Berlin Wall.
Reagan appeals to both extrinsic and intrinsic ethos. At the time, Reagan had a lot of
extrinsic ethos and was known to be the Great Communicator , who had a lopsided
victory election after a successful first term. Because of his political background,
Reagan can get away with his lack of statistics and data. For example, Even today, the
Soviet Union still cannot feed itself . Reagan does not back this up with any
evidence, even if this statement could be taken literally, because he knows that his
status as POTUS makes him seem trustworthy. Also, he acknowledges other
opinions and views of other world leaders who oppose Western Democracy, then
provides his own viewpoint on the matter. He mentions Khruschev and Moscow,
stating In the 1950s Khrushchev predicted: We will bury you. But in the West
today, we see a free world that has achieved a level of prosperity... In the
Communist world, we see failure, technological backwardness, declining standards
of health... too little food... We hear much from Moscow about a new policy of
reform and openness... political prisoners have been released... foreign news

Item Number Exemplified Learning Analysis
The way I determined whether each item number exemplified learning, was by using
my definition of what learning means and what I have been taught it means through
this chapter. My definition of learning is the acquired knowledge or skills one has
obtained by being taught, through experience, and/or by studying. I came up with
item numbers 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, and 10 as being examples of learning. I would say 1, 4, 6,
and 7 are not examples of learning. Considering the definition of learning by
Hilgard and Bower, I wouldn t change any of my answers. Here are the reasonings

The concept of eternal return is first introduced through warfare analogies, where a
war between two African kingdoms in the fourteenth century happened only once
and that it will [turn] into mere words, theories, lighter than feather (3, 4), whereas
if the [war] were to recur eternally , it will be considered eternal return and it would
become a solid mass, permanently protuberant (4, 4). Something that happened
only once will be lost in its inanity to history, but something that reoccurs gains
weight and becomes permanent. Thus, something could only be classified as
eternal return if it occurs endlessly and adds weight in history. Kundera reiterates
by saying that a Robespierre who occurs only once is history and a Robespierre
who eternally returns, chopping off French heads (4) have infinite differences.
Using Robespierre and his shocking guillotine in a humorous context of eternal
return, Kundera manages to express his idea of weight in eternal return as well as
mock history of its foolishness. Throughout the book, however, the idea of eternal
return comes as the motif of birds of fortuity, as Tereza felt The birds of fortuity had
alighted once more , and that she was impelled by the birds of fortuity fluttering
down on her shoulder (75, 52). The symbol of a bird to embody

Illusion versus Reality: Marriage in Modern Literature
Modern literature is known for questioning society and its various conventions. One
question that these works often ask is, What is real? Some modern authors explore
this question by placing their characters within self constructed illusions that are later
shattered by the introduction of reality. Marriages are frequently at the center of this
theme, with one spouse crafting an illusory impression of the other. Modern literature
demonstrates that a marriage built upon illusion will falter when exposed to reality.
In order to understand the effects of illusion on marriages in modern literature, we
will explore two pieces: The Dead by James Joyce and Odour of Chrysanthemums by

In reality, he doesn t know her at all a fact Joyce alludes to when Gabriel fails to

s blanket of illusion is snatched away: While he had been full of...joy and desire, she
had been comparing him in her mind with another (2197). Facing the reality of his
wife s love for another man, Gabriel now begins to question their entire relationship.
As Gabriel reflects on Gretta s sorrow for this lost young man, he comes to accept
that he has never experienced that depth of feeling and love for another person not
even for the wife that he had so desired just a short time before. He no longer looks
at her through admiring and happy eyes; he now sees only her age and bitterly
acknowledges that her face is no longer the face for which [the boy] braved death

the hollowness in his life, and Gabriel s picture of Gretta is forever changed.

Wound Weights Movement Analysis
I suggests women generally start with a set of two 5 to 10 pound weights, and men
start with a set of two 10 to 20 pound weights.
How to: Stand with a weight in each hand, near hips, palms forward. Shoulders and
elbows should be pinned against the wall. Without moving upper arms, curl weights
up until dumbbells are shoulder level, then lower to starting position. Aim for 14 to
22 reps with good form shoulders flat against the wall, raising arms for a count of
two and lowering them for a count of two.
What we try to do is fatigue that muscle to the point where you feel the bicep really
straining. Your form might start to give just a little or you cant quite get to the rep
range, Booker says.

The same goes for the high end. If you can easily do the max rep range in good form,
then add weight for the next set. the row is the way to go. Plus, it s a fairly easy
move to master.
How to: Stand behind a box, feet shoulder width apart, dumbbell in right hand.
Bend your left knee and place it on top of the box, and extend your right leg back
behind you, knee slightly bent, toes on the floor. Lean over at the hips and place
your left arm on the box in front of your knee to help brace yourself. Pick up your
dumbbell with the right hand. Keeping your back flat, elbow close to your body, lift
the weight up towards the right side of your chest, while simultaneously squeezing
your shoulders together. Slowly lower dumbbell back down. Complete prescribed
amount of reps, then switch to the other side.
Over time, you may find your heavy set of weights feels lighter to you as you
master your lifts and build muscle. Congrats: Now, start adding more weight, in five
pound increments. It s called progressive overload; you re going to slowly add
weight and it should be done within a targeted rep range, Booker

Athenian Democracy Influenced Western Political Thought
Abstract In this paper, I intend to show that ancient Athenian democracy influenced
western political thought, specifically, western democracies. By influencing such
modern day democracies, ancient Greek culture remains a presence in contemporary
life.
Introduction
Approximately 2500 years ago a series of changes and reformations in political
thought led to the creation of the ancient Athenian democracy. Through the changes
implemented by Solon and Cleisthenes during the Golden Age of Greece, democracy
was born in Athens. Although it was somewhat impractical, exclusionist, and only
open to a very small percentage of the total Athenian population, its impact is still
felt today. Athenian democracy is widely recognized as the model from which all
other forms of democratic rule has evolved from. Through the principles handed
down from that Athenian democracy, ancient Greek culture remains a prominent
presence in contemporary life, particularly in regard to its democratic policies. The
concept of Democracy dates back to the Classic Period, otherwise known as the
Golden Age of Greece. Prior to becoming a unified nation, Greece was made up of
city states that were constantly warring with one another. None of these city states
possessed full control over its neighbors. It was during this time and because of these
circumstances that there was great advancement in Greek thought encompassing
philosophy and politics. These advancements are responsible for the strong Greek
The Collapse Of Andrew Carnegie
Insert Title later Believe it or not, skyscrapers have only been around since the the
late 1880 s. The main reason for this was because the materials used to build
buildings at the time could not support the weight of a skyscraper. If people
wanted to build taller buildings, they had to use stronger materials that could
withstand the weight of the building and keep it from collapsing. At the time, that
material was steel, but there was a problem; steel was not mass produced at the
time. This made it financially unethical to build with, the price of steel only began
to drop after Andrew Carnegie created his steel business. Andrew Carnegie helped
strengthen the American economy turning it into a world power by learning from
his poverty when he was younger, starting his steel business which provided the
world an important resource for the development of industry, taking advantage of
workers to maximize profit, and devoting his later life to philanthropy. Carnegie
was very poor during his childhood, and this will cause him to try a variety of jobs
that inevitably led to his steel empire. Andrew Carnegie was born November 25,
1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland. His father, William Carnegie, a prosperous
handloom weaver at the time of Andrew s birth, was unable to compete with the
new technology of steam loomers and fell into poverty as Andrew grew older, (UXL

Pennsylvania, and Andrew got a job at a
Greek Influence On Roman Architecture
The lasting structures of Rome have allowed historians to paint a picture of what
civilization looked like centuries ago. From the grand arches to the temples and
bathhouses, the development of concrete enabled the Romans to build sturdy
structures with designs largely influenced by the Greeks. In part because of this
advancement, the Roman structure was able to survive and display for the world the
expansion and influence of the Roman Empire.
While it was not of their creation, the Romans improved upon the arch upon the
realization that it s shape allowed them to create and cover large amounts of territory.
Utilizing a slave class that grew as they expanded, Rome had plenty of laborers to
complete their grand structures. The arch enabled them to cover large amounts of
land due to weight disbursement as the shape reduces the stress incurred by the
structure (Kamm, n.d.). In addition, the Romans used triumphal arches to

the binder for the material that would become concrete. Upon the discovery that the
addition of lime and the rubble material mixed with the pozzolana created concrete,
the Romans were able to build long lasting structures with great strength. In
combination, the creation of concrete and it the soundness it was able to provide

Voltaire s Use Of Optimism In Candide
In Voltaire s famous eighteenth century text, Candide, the topic of optimism is
prevalent. In fact, an alternative name for the piece is L Optimisme, or The Optimist.
Specifically, Voltaire examines and satirizes Leibnizian optimism, or the notion that
humans inhabit the best of all possible worlds, as Gottfried Leibniz phrased it in his
early Enlightenment era work, ThГ©odicГ©e. Throughout Candide, the readers are
introduced to some characters who hold very optimistic outlooks out about life and
their current situations, namely Candide himself and Pangloss, Candide s mentor. In
the end, Voltaireridicules those who subscribe to the conception that this universe is
the best possibility and claims that a balance between optimistic and pessimistic
views provides a more accurate perspective.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She describes that she and her mother were strip searched and raped by pirates, she
witnessed the deaths of her family and friends in Morocco, she was sold to a
governor as a concubine, caught the plague, had one of her buttock s eaten by guards,
and then was ultimately mistreated by a Russian nobleman until she escaped to
become a servant. Despite all this, the old lady continues to hold a positive attitude. In
addition, Voltaire describes an actual historical event, the Lisbon earthquake of 1755,
through the eyes of Candide. The earthquake, which, ironically enough, occurred on
All Saints Day, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar, resulted in the deaths
of over 100,000 people who were mostly attending church services throughout the day.
While not described in Candide, the devastating earthquake triggered a subsequent
tsunami which furthered the loss of life and destruction throughout Lisbon and the
Portuguese coast. In response to the disaster, Pangloss tells a group of victims, For
all this is for the best, since if there is a volcano at Lisbon, it cannot be somewhere

Outline The Importance Of Duty Of Care
A duty of care is a legal obligation taken on by carer, with the understanding that we
are agreeing to make sure that we provide a high standard and quality of care to our
residents. Every person is entitled to be supported and should be able to live in an
environment such as a care home, which is free from prejudice, safe from abuse,
cared for in a reasonable, responsible and respectful manner and where they can
feel protected. Under the terms of duty of care, it is our responsibility to make
sure that we make this happen professionally, lawfully, and as always abide by
policies and procedures set out by our care setting. It is our role as carers, to ensure
that all duties are carried out safely and effectively. We must work alongside
safeguarding policies and procedures and is important that we all receive adequate
training and refresher courses. Even though the basis and foundations of duty of
care will never change, factors which support it will. This is why we must attend
and be offered training so we can change with the times and the service user, family
and our colleagues can have complete faith in us that we are trained to the best of
our ability and national standards. It is also our duty to record all relevant
information, be it an accident or incident, an occurrence, or even part of a daily care
record. It must be factual, written in a professional, legible manor, signed and dated.
Where possible we need to document this sooner rather than later, whilst it is
The Effectivity Of Three Strikes Law
Habitual offender laws or as it is known, the three strikes law is hated by most
people and even ex president Bill Clinton regrets signing this law. This law is more
complex than simple. Each state has its own version of this law, with California
being the strictest by implementing this law on criminals with non violent felonies
(Kieso). The effectivity of three strikes law has been questioned thousands of
times because this law has the chance to ruin peoples lives who could have
changed their paths; however, it can also lock up those who will never change.
Like every law, the three strikes law is not perfect and it might lead to extreme
results like in the case of Persistent Phellon. There is evidence that these laws work
in some cases and not in others. There is a study where in California violent crimes
have decreased by 38 percent and saved billions of dollars; however, there is
another study which says the opposite. Counties in California with heavy enforce
of the law saw fewer changes than the ones that were less strict (Wood). This
means that it is hard to prove or disprove if the law is working. Since the counties
with less used of the law saw a decline in people being charged than counties with
heavy use of the law, counties with heavy use of the law should use the law less
frequent. There was an obvious change since the law was implemented, but it cannot
be confirmed that this law was the one which helped crime drop. The tables above
show how much violent crimes
Inappropriate Behavior Research Paper
Media have been accusing police officers for displaying inappropriate behavior
with general public these past few years. This makes me believe that, cameras worn
by police officers to monitor every activity is necessary. These cameras will capture
the situation clearly and show whether it was the suspect who displayed violent
behavior and forced the policeofficer to handle the situation with physical force.
Moreover, it will also capture the fact, whether the officer used violence despite the
fact that the suspect was cooperative. As far as the change of behavior concerned, it
depends on the situation the officer is dealing with. People sometimes label police
officers as arrogant or smug. I ve heard plenty of people refer the officers as people
Examples Of Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny is a belief that United States was destined by God to stretch across
the continent from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and into Mexican
Territory. Manifest Destiny came into act as a result of political pressure on slavery
issue and fear of foreign threats. This idea provided opportunity for Americans to
spread their beliefs of freedom, liberty and democracy across the continent. Manifest
Destiny began with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, expansion plans of Polk
(annexation of Texasin 1845), and dispute with Great Britain over Oregon Territory.
The first example of Manifest Destiny is the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, a westward
expansion of the Mississippi River. The Louisiana Purchase is a negotiation between
US and France, in which US paid $15 million to France to acquire 828,800 square
miles of land west of Mississippi River, of what is now known as New Mexico and
Texas. The following year in 1804, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
US s proposal was to draw a boundary at the 49th parallel; however, Great Britain
rejected the proposal. Southerners did not want to go to a war with Great Britain
nor did the British. In 1846, Senate approved the Oregon Treaty, and US gained the
land south of the parallel. This is an example of a manifest destiny because US
acquired land without having to go war with Great Britain. As boundaries of the US
are expanding, it allows our federal system an additional strength and security.
In a span of five years, during 1840 s to 1850 s, United States increased its size by a
third. The idea that United States was destined to expand from the Atlantic Ocean to
the Pacific Ocean is
called the manifest destiny. It allowed Americans to spread their beliefs all across the
continent. Three examples of manifest destiny are Louisiana Purchase in 1803,
expansion plans of Polk (annexation of Texas in 1845), and dispute with Great Britain
over Oregon

Why A Porous Asphalt Parking Lot Is A Good Choice For Your Commercial Property
If you re planning a new parking lot for your place of business, one thing you must
consider is water runoff. If rain can t seep through the parking lot surface, it must be
diverted to a pond or storm sewer. The solution to this problem is to have the
contractor use porous asphalt so water can drain through the soil naturally. Here are a
few things you should know.
Drain Rainwater Naturally
Rain normally drains into the soil where it is naturally filtered as it works its way
into the groundwater supply. Roads, driveways, and parking lots disrupt this
process by covering the surface of the soil. Gravel is ideal for allowing rainwater
to soak into the ground, but it is not a good surface for a commercial parking lot.
Porous asphalt is the best solution since it has an attractive appearance, allows for
water drainage, and has a surface that can be marked with parking spaces.
Avoid Building A Pond
If you don t install a porous parking lot, you might be required to build a detention
pond on your property. The pond area is there to collect water that runs off your lot
when it rains. The pond holds the water until it can sink into the ground. Building a
pond adds to the cost of installing a parking lot. Plus, your lot must be designed so

Winthrop Lake Vs. Wetlands Lab Report
Ashley Antia Obong Dr. Eric Birgbauer BIOL 203 009 21 October 2016
Biodiversity of Microorganisms in Winthrop Lake vs. Wetland Abstract:
Microorganism need to live in ideal conditions so they can grow. This experiment
was performed to determine if there was a greater number of microorganisms in
Winthrop lake than Winthrop wetlands. We determined this hypothesis because the
lake was bigger. We also made the hypothesis that the pH level of the lake was
going to be higher than the wetlands. We tested out the hypothesis by going out to
Winthrop lake and wetlands and collecting samples of water. Back in the lab, we
examined the samples under a microscope and recorded all the organisms we could

6 groups each collected a sample of surface water from the wetland and the lake in
various areas. Back at the lab, measurements were made and analyzed the data. We
had 23 samples of water slides from the samples of water collected from each
location. We examined the drops of water from each location under a microscope
and counted all the microorganisms we could find and recorded them in Microsoft
Office Excel. After looking at the water samples under a microscope, we tested the
pH level of 6 samples from each location of water with a Vernier pH probe and
recorded this data in Excel. The number of microorganisms found in the recorded
was analyzed using a statistical chi squared test and the pH levels recorded was
analyzed using a t test. Results: After recording the data, we found a total of 10
different types of microorganisms in Winthrop wetlands (figure 1). In the lake, we
found a total of 13 different types of microorganisms (figure 1). Since we found
more organisms in the lake, we did a chi squared test to see if the difference was
statistically significant. The value we got after our calculation was 0.53 which is not

Observation that over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors in
a integrated chip has doubled every 2 years.
Consequences of Moore s law
1 Because of Moore law the ratio of price to performance of computers has fallen.
For example the price of the standard computing device has fallen from around
$4000 to something close to 1c for the same processor.
2 Because of Moore s law the cost of data communication and data storage is

What really happened that day Grandad?
The grey sky hung close to 16 year old Ed and the other soldiers as they stood, lined

French sun hid hazily in the smog covered sky. THUD THUD THUD, cannons

Taylor Swift Tone

As William W. Purkey once said, You ve gotta dance like the there s nobody

live like it s heaven on earth. In this quote, Purkey tells us to not care about what
anybody thinks of us, act like no one is there and do whatever we desire from our
true selves, and to throw caution to the wind. Another writer sends us a very similar
message to Purkey s quote; Taylor Swiftprojects the message of not letting anyone
bring you down, no matter what they say. In Swift s song Shake It Off , she
expresses her message in a very bold yet optimistic tone.
Furthermore, how Swift created the tone of her song was that she uses repetition
to stress the importance of her message that she wants to get across to the
audience. The lyrics, Shake it off, I shake it off, I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

The De Beers Company is one of the wealthiest companies in the world. De Beers
leads and dominates the diamond industry in diamond mining, diamond trading, and
industrial diamond manufacturing. In 1871 a South African man named Cecil Rhodes
created De Beers. Rhodes rented water pumps to miners then invested his profits by
buying up small mining operations. In 2011 the De Beers Group sold their
remaining stake to Anglo American for $5.1 billion in cash. (DeMarco, 2011).
Before the sale the diamond company was owned by the Oppenheimer family. Now

These stockholders do a great job planning on how to keep the company making
big profits. This gives these stockholders lots of control. De Beers has done a great
job expanding their markets and making sure those places have high demand for
their product. In an article on Telegraph.co.uk, Josephine Moulds states De Beer s
sales in the Middle East, India and Asia drove pre tax profits up 74% to $1 billion in
the first half (Moulds, 2011).
The governments in the diamond industry have a lot of control what the companies
can do. When mining diamonds many of land and resources are used. Governments
have to take the interest of their people and also take into account what impact the
diamond industry has on the local environment. In the country of Angola diamond
mining has had a huge impact. Brilliantearth.com states irresponsible diamond
mining has caused soil erosion, led to deforestation, and forced local populations to
relocate (Brilliant Earth, n.d.). Governments also have to regulate labor laws for their
country. In some countries diamonds are mined by small children in unsafe
conditions. These responsibilities fall under the local government to protect the land
from these mining companies. Local governments can write laws and regulations
require diamond mining companies to take extra precautions in order to operate.
This could require the diamond company to decide is it worth it to follow these
regulations or find a cheaper place to mind
Essay On Being A College Student
During my first year in college I did not realize the major challenges I would face
being a first generation college student that was undeclared as a major. I knew I had
to continue my education as many of my teachers and advisers in high school had
mentioned. But I never knew the struggle of not having a family member to turn for
advice or guidance to navigate my collegeeducationor choosing a major. Being a
college student opened my eyes in seeing the world through a different perspective
primarily through knowledge I had never came across before. I became interested in
helping other students in their path post high schoolby volunteering, mentoring and
working with high school students in their process of applying or learning about
their postsecondary education options. After working with different ethnic groups I
came to realize that those that identified as Latino were not the only ones facing
similar or same challenges as myself but other ethnic groups as well. As I worked
with a student interested in attending a four year university but was not A G eligible
because they were three classes away from being eligible to apply. As the student had
mentioned that the counselor did not enroll them in the right classes, however, if the
student had known the A G requirements they might have been aware of changes that
should have occurred before their senior year. Being able to advise the student
through the options available to him in regards to applying and taking the course
Sexism In Captain Phillips
Captain Phillips is an American movie based on true life story which was directed
by Paul Greengrass in 2013. One would wonder why Africans have much enmity
for Whites; my curiosity to watch an action movie counted Captain Phillips as my
favorite text. In this movie, the main characters were Captain Phillips played by
Tom Hanks and the Somalian pirates. Captain Phillips was a civilian sailor who had
a duty to sail Maersk container ship from Oman to Mombasa in Africa. A crew of
pirates from Somalia attacked the Maersk container ship on the sea which led to a
long day negotiation between the pirates and the crews of Captain Phillips.
Unfortunately, Captain Phillips was captured by the pirates into a life boat. The
shipping company had no option than to save Captain Phillips and so they sent the
U.S navy ship to negotiate with the pirates. During the negotiation, Captain Phillips
managed to tell the navy negotiator his seat number. The navy employed a strategic
raid on the life boat and killed all the pirates to save Captain Phillips (Greengrass,
2013).

because there are no room for high paying skilled labor opened to them due to the

it was the fact that the jobs that would have been available to them would have been

Women have been made default pursuers of unskillful labor which is a disadvantage

The Importance Of Technology In Feed
In the futuristic world M.T Anderson creates in Feed, the misuse of technology is a
problem the world faces. The novel Feed describes how the world could be in the
future if humans let technology rule their lives. Anderson wants the reader to realize
the effect technology has on our lives, and he also wants us to understand how we
are being controlled and manipulated by media. Therefore, Anderson, fearing that one
day technology will surpass humanity by creating a society of idiots like in the novel
Feed, warns the reader from the futureour society might face if we don t make a
change soon.
The novel describes scenarios of the world where we live. For example: people are
becoming less intelligent because technology is dominating the human race.
Moreover, One major theme is how technology, including media and advertising,
ruins the future. Since the feed is in the teenagers head, they live and die by the feed.
Everything they want is

Intelligence. Instead, they are content with having technology do everything for them.
They cannot even read or write because everything they need is done by the feed. In
School, teenagers learn about the feed, how to find the best bargains, how to get a job
and how to decorate their rooms. Regular subjects such as literature and math are not
in School. The constant advertisements running through their heads also ruin the
future of the human race.
The Qin Dynasty And The Chinese Empire Essay
Before the Qin Dynasty, China was composed of a network of city states that were
loyal to the Chinese king. The seven Warring States had their own institutions that
were run by aristocrats. The Qin Dynasty took initiative to expand their territory and
to unite the Chinese empire together. Through their ruthless military techniques the
Qin Dynasty was able to conquer the city states in China. The Qin Dynasty ruled
from 221 BCE 206 BCE; during their regime, Emperor Qin s primary goal was to
unify the Chinese people. Even though the Qin Dynasty was a short lived empire, it
played a major role in unifying the Chinese empire and provided a foundation for
succeeding regimes through a centralized government, standardized systems, and
through infrastructure. Even though the Qin Dynasty deprived the civilization of
education, it created a strong bureaucratic system that limited feudal power and
developed a cooperative population. Each Warring state followed a different political
system, before it was conquered by Qin. The First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, felt it
was necessary to legitimize his power to unify the city states and for a cooperative
population. In the Qin Dynasty, the institution of emperor had a special meaning in
China as the repository of imperial legitimacy (Feng 2013, 249). In other words, the
first emperor was given the title of being a mythical ruler that had godly powers and
is the righteous leader of the empire based on the Mandate of Heaven
College Student Athletes Report
The purpose of this report is to determine whether college student athletes should be
paid with more than scholarships. This has been a heavily discussed topic over the
last few years and will continue to be discussed in the years to come. It is illegal for
student athletes to receive compensation for their participation in college athletics,
because the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) specifically states in its
2016 2017 Summary of NCAA regulations that You (the student athlete
) are not
eligible for participation in a sport if you have ever taken pay, or the promise of
pay, for competing in that sport (NCAA, 2016, p 2). Many argue college athletes

Since there is so much money spent, there is not as much money to pay the athletes
as some may believe. In an article Pete DiPrimio he discusses how schools do not
make as much profit as some believe. A study by the NCAA and USA Today
showed that 206 Division I public athletic departments lose money. Indiana and
Purdue are two of the 22 public universities that make money (DiPrimio, 2011, p.1).
Kansas State University is also one of the select few colleges that are profitable in
the NCAA. In the aforementioned letter from John Currie, he shows Kansas State
s projected budget card for the 2014 2015 fiscal year. Kansas State s projected budget
is set so they can simply break even (Currie, 2014). Their number one goal is not to
make a profit or else their budget projections would be set to make a profit. Figure
2 shows a few of the profitable programs. Only 14 percent of division 1 schools
generated more than a million dollars in 2012. One of the main reasons Kansas State
is actually profitable is because of generous donations from
Olaudah Equiano Lesson Analysis
Historical events help people understand what life used to be like in the past. These
stories can be told in many different ways. They can be told through movies,
narratives, and oral stories. In the narrative The Interesting Life of Olaudah Equiano
by Olaudah Equiano, the author tells his story through an autobiography type of
narrative. In Squanto: A Warrior s Tale, Squanto s story is shown in a movie. In both
stories, Equiano and Squanto have been captured by the white men and their stories
tell what they went through. EquianoВґs and SquantoВґs behavior during captivity,
treatment during captivity, and their feelings after release have much in common but
they also vary in different ways. Their behavior during captivity was very different
because of the circumstances of their situations. In The Interesting Life of Olaudah
Equiano, Equiano was very sick of the conditions he was living in. Equiano was in
shock because of what was happening aboard the ship he was on. Between the
stench, the sick people, and people getting beaten by crew members he didn t want
anything else besides death. When Equiano states ВЁNor had I the least desire to
taste anything. I now wished for the last friend , death to relieve me,ВЁ it shows that
he not only didnВґt want to eat, but to die as well (Equiano 85). While Equiano was
helpless on board of a ship full of slaves, Squanto took more of an active approach.
When the Pilgrims captured Squanto they used him as a circus act by making him

Russian and Chinese Advanced Persistent Threat Groups

Introduction
In this paper I will discuss a total of four Advanced Persistent Threat Groups (APT). I
will discuss their motives, attack objectives, targets of the attacks, tactics,
techniques, and procedures (TTP), and attack vectors. I will propose strategies that
would deter and provide defense against the group or that type of threat. I will also
discuss if the APT is state backed or if it is a rogue actor.
The four APT groups that I chose to discuss are APT 28 and APT 29 from Russia,
PLA Unit 61398 and PLA Unit 78020 from China. I have chosen these four groups
because they interested me while I was researching the topic. They each have a little
signature that makes them stand out. A few are completely dependent on phishing
campaigns when others are more streamlined and actually take the holidays of their
homeland off from their efforts.
Main Body
The first Advanced Persistent Threat Group (APT) I will discuss is APT28. APT28
is also known by the names: Fancy Bear, Pawn Storm, Sofacy Group and Sednit .
APT28 has been active since 2007 and targets political figures, government
institutions, telecommunications and e crime services with a concentration on
European and Asian aerospace companies.

Hypotensive Anesthesia
Induced hypotensive anesthesia:
Deliberate hypotensive anesthesia was first introduced to clinical practice by
Gardner in 1946 who used arteriotomy to reduce arterial blood pressure during
removal of a vascular lesion from the base of the skull (Gardner, 1946). Schaberg et
al. (1976) was the first surgeon who used this technique in oral and maxillofacial
surgery. Controlled hypotension is commonly used technique to limit blood loss
during specific surgical procedures on specific areas in which surgical hemostasis
may be difficult (hip, spine, and facial bones) (Tobias, 1996), but Samman (2008)
concluded that this technique remains controversial in oral and maxillofacial surgery

hypotension, including inhalational anesthetic agents, beta adrenergic antagonists,
calcium channel blockers, and vasodilators such as nitroglycerin and sodium
nitroprusside (Rodrigo, 1995). As reported by Schaberg et al. (1976) hypotensive
anesthesia decrease the reduction of blood loss volume by 44%. Dolman et al.
(2000) compared hypotensive and normotensive anesthesia in mean blood loss in
orthognathic surgery patients and he found that mean blood loss in patients
operated under normotensive anesthesia was 270.2 ml while patients treated under
hypotensive anesthesia was 120.3 ml. Praveen et al. (2001) mentioned that mean
blood loss in patient operated in hypotension was 200 ml and patient under
normotension was 350 ml with 44% reduction in blood loss. A systemic review
done by Choi and Samman (2008) and they concluded that hypotensive anesthesia is
effective in blood loss and can be justified to be used as a routine procedure for
orthognathic surgery especially bimaxillary osteotomy. Ervens et al. (2010) found

All the objects in the house were covered in dust, yet this letter had none on it. She
begins to wonder how did the letter appeared on the table; the caretaker is away
and the letter should have been forwarded to her residence in the country. Mrs.
Drover reads the letter in her old bedroom, which she discovers the letter was from
her fiance that was presumed dead during the first World War. In terror she
remembers what he left her, that cut of the button on her palm of hand was,
principally, what she was to carry away, (Bowen 1085). Her fiance was aggressive
and physically hurt Mrs. Drover to leave a memory of him.. In panic, Mrs. Drover
rushes to finish her tasks in the house as she wonders how he knows she is there
and when will he come. These thoughts are running through her head, as well as
the reader s head. Mrs. Drover becomes haunted with memories she has of him.
The letter is signed with by K so the reader is unaware of who the fiance is and his
past; however, based upon Mrs. Drover s reaction, the reader can conclude that this
man is someone to be feared. More and more panic sets in as time passes, Mrs.
Drover not knowing the set time they are to meet. The rain and the damaged, dark
house aids her paranoia as she begins to believe she is not alone, and is concerned
when hearing noises. Mrs. Drover wants to escape back to the country as soon as
possible to be with her family, in safety away from the dead

Midsummer Night s Dream and The Tempest (Compare/Contrast)The Super
Natural theme creates a big effect on both plays Midsummer Night s Dream and
The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Super Natural can be defined as anything
that is not normal. Super Natural is used in Midsummer Night s Dream to create
disagreements and resolve things in the play. The Super Natural element is used in
The Tempest through the use of Black Magic used by the evil witch Sycorax and
the White Magic used by Prospero, the Duke of Milan. William Shakespeare uses
the Super Natural theme in many of his plays to continue the plot in the direction he

These fairies cause disagreements and also resolutions throughout the play. One
example of the effect that fairies make in the play is when Puck mistakenly
enchants Lysander into falling in love with Helena instead of Demetrius. This
mistake only gets worst when Oberon and Puck enchant Demetrius into falling in
love with Helena as well. Now, both men are in love with Helena. The Super
Natural can also be seen in the play when Oberon tells Puck that he has been

William Shakespeare between 1594 and 1596. Midsummer Night is believed to be
less dramatic and tragic than The Tempest . The Super Natural element in
Midsummer Night s Dream is less vengeful and dark, but more childish and

fairies. If Puck had never charmed Lysander or if Puck had charmed Demetrius

Crazy Horse Journey
The Journey of Crazy HorseThe first seven chapters begin by talking about the
early years of Crazy Horse. These years are significant because it shows how he
began his life before he went off to fight mighty battles and became known as an
excellent warrior. There are many main points in his early years that lead up to
him becoming a warrior. Starting off with his birth and childhood, how he learned
different virtues, to finally becoming interested in being a warrior. Each time he
was involved with killing a white man or protecting the Lakota during a war,
helped him in becoming more of a warrior and leader of his people. Then he was
also involved in rescuing people from the white man and by doing this, it had proved
that the virtues he had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His experience at aiming also grew quickly, instead of aiming at the hoop rolling
around he was taught that grasshoppers were targets that would teach him even more
about hunting. Flying grasshoppers helped the Light Haired one become faster and
helped perfect his aim. It was not only the interest that he found in grasshoppers but
also the other animals that taught him many lessons in living and hunting. His
mentors were the animals, each teaching him different skills and living habits that
helped him in his hunting and his knowledge of what it did for him, his family and his
community by keeping an abundance of food.
As Light Hair grew older his strengths shown greatly to his teachers, he never would
give up. He was taught how to use each weapon and which would help him in what
situation. Along with all of his strategy and strengths, he was taught of certain things
that would help him in his journeys, friendship and leadership. Light hair was also
taught many new things that would help him in the leadership he is known for today.
In 1851 the Fort Laramie Treaty was formed, over eight thousand men, women and
children came together and formed an alliance. Enemies, relatives and families came
together to form nearly three hundred of their soldiers. Man was beginning to intrude
on the land of the Indians and the Indians knew they had to do something. Many
enemies became friends, which would also help their future as tribes.
Protestant Propaganda
Protestant Propaganda
What do you think of when you hear the name Ireland? Ireland is a relatively small
island off the coast of Great Britain with a land area of 32,424 square miles (Delaney
2). There are several things that you may associate with this country such as St.
Patrick s Day, shamrocks, beer, and strife. The source of the bitterness behind this
conflict began centuries ago, when Britain came over and forced Protestantism on the
Irish Catholic inhabitants. For this reason there has always been an animosity between
the Protestants and the Irish Catholics. The island is broken up into two distinct
regions. The Republic of Ireland consists of twenty six counties, which make up the

This event gave the Catholics yet another reason to dislike the Unionists.
The Unionists also used crooked politics to ensure Protestant control. One way of
doing this was by gerrymandering the political district lines. For example, one
ward was ninety percent Catholic while the rest of the Catholics were scattered
about in Protestant wards (Golway 280). By dividing the districts this way it made
the Catholic votes virtually meaningless. Then, the Protestant controlled government
passed the Civil Authorities Act. This Act granted the government the right to
search homes without a warrant, impose curfews, and randomly arrest citizens
even if no real crime had been committed. The Catholics were the ones who were
primarily oppressed by these laws. Other laws limited the education of Catholics,
restricted them from holding office, and they were also discriminated against on
the job. Protestants filled many of the positions leaving the Catholics jobless
(Golway 280). This policy of discrimination helped inflate the already high poverty
rate in Ire that they could feed their family, they also had to worry about curfews
and being arrested for no apparent reason. This is not right. The government should
not be allowed to pass laws that would help single out a certain minority. This is an
example of how propaganda can be used in politics.

The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Playing Video Games
Video games
Playing video games has become a trend in the present generation and each and
very home is almost equipped with these video games. The complex as well as
challenging and ambitious games has started wince 1970 and playing video games
started proving to be beneficial for developing the intellectual abilities. Video games
on the one hand are providing the source of entertainment tit eh players specifically
children but on the other hand it is also improving the eye hand coordination in
them. With the passage of time the new variety of video games has provided to the
new generation which made them addicted and they started spending plenty of time
playing video games which raised the different health issues as well as mentality ...

More than 90% of children who are living in America are playing video games and
they tend to play these games 2 hours minimum a day. The video games which are
especially violent in nature has raised many concerns for parents reading their
children that the issue of selling or rental of these games was brought before the
supreme court of America. In the year 2001, for the first time in the court it has
been declared that video games are the sources to communicate variety of ideas as
well as social messages.
The issue has not ended up yet as the tragedies which were happening with children
raised this debate to higher extent and it has become one of the hot issue of the
time. for this purpose many researches has also been published in the journal of
personality and social Psychology in which it has been declared that the adults
who plays the mature version of violent video games get engaged in the
consumption of alcohol as well as in dangerous driving. Overall this debate kept on
raising and still research is in process as no final conclusion has been drawn. (US
News, 2011)
Video games from one viewpoint are giving the wellspring of excitement to the
players particularly kids however then again it is likewise enhancing the eye hand
coordination in them. With the progression of time the new assortment of video
games has given to the new era which made them dependent and they began investing
a lot of energy playing video games which raised the
Racism On Racism
What is racism? That is a tough question. I think everyone almost makes their own
interpretation of what is racist and what is not. There are so many influences in
our world that makes it difficult to create your view on racism. I think racism is
thinking that one group of people is more superior over another. The amount of
hatred people have towards one another is heartbreaking. From a young age, I have
been observing the world and developing my world view. Historical examples,
modern examples, and Gods Word have all shaped my view on racism. As I have
grown up I have learned about racism in history. There are many examples that we
learn about in history class. One example that always comes to my mind when I think
about raceis during the Holocaust when the Jews were being killed by the Nazis
because they were not considered humans. Another example is in the 1800 s when
America was divided because of slavery. I think as an American it is important to
learn about slavery and the civil war to better understand what our country used to
be like and what it has gone through. My mom has done a very good job in
educating my sister and I about racism. I cannot count the times I have gone to
Greenfield Village or the Henry Ford museum in my life and it has opened my
eyes. At the museum and village, I got to see and experience hands on historical
examples of what the African Americans had to go through. I got to see the
different water fountains, schools, churches, and bathrooms for the different
colors. And how they could only have certain jobs because they were considered
dumb. I have sat in the exact seat Rosa Parks sat in when she refused to move to
the back of the bus. I saw the housing and conditions that the slaves had to go
through when working on the plantations and much more. It makes you step back
and think about these events. It is hard to not relate because it happened years ago,
but when you see it up close and personal it changes your thoughts. It is cool to see
how our world has brought itself together after these tragic times, but many things
are still going on today. The most modern one that I can think of lately is the
Hurricanes that just happened. I loved seeing the pictures of all people of
Comparing Muir And Wordsworth
Naturalism is a style and theory of representation based on the accurate depiction of
detail. These writers use several different techniques of writing. The one most often
used by the two is using nature to represent emotion. In Muir s essay and Wordsworth
s poem, both writers have expressed their relationships with naturethrough poetry and
diction.
Firstly, Muir and Wordsworth use both similar and different techniques when they
write. Muir wrote an essay that often used hopeful tones called The Calypso Borealis
. He used dialect as well to represent the way people he met spoke: Mony a puir body
has been lost in that muckle, cauld, dreary bog and never been found. By using
dialect, he was able to bring accents and poor speech to life.
Intimate Partner And Sexual Violence
Abstract
This summarizes report of the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence 2010
survey, will provide statistical information on victims who experienced one or more
violent crimes from their husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend. These crimes
arrange from stalking, rape, to physical and mental abuse. It will examine the impact
of intimate partner violence on gender, race, and ethnicity. This report will give an
overview of health consequences and the implications for prevention for Intimate
Partner and Sexual Violence. Lastly, this summary report will provide a definition of
what is the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey and how it is
developed.
Violence / Intimate Partner
Sex crime is one of the most underestimated crimes in America. Intimate Partner and
Sexual Violence are one of the most torturous and abusive crimes that goes
unreported due to fear. Intimate partner abuse is generally part of a pattern of abusive
behavior and control rather than an isolated act of physical aggression. Partner abuse
can take a variety of forms, including physical assault such as different forms of
hitting, kicking, and beatings; emotional abuse, threats, financial abuse,
psychological abuse such as belittling, intimidation, and humiliation.
Some abuser would go as far as using their children as pawns in their abuse. Victims
are continuously forced to have sex. Most frequently controlled behaviors are aimed
to isolate women from their family and
Clean Water Act Lab Report
Introduction: In 1972, Congress passed the Clean Water Act, which granted the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency the power to control levels of toxic discharge
into surface water. The Clean Water Act has been very beneficial in the regulation
of point source pollution. However, recently the center of attention is how to
regulate nonpoint source pollution coming from agricultural or urban runoff. The
most effective way to regulate the levels of toxicity in discharge waters is to
perform acute and chronic toxicity on the water discharge from a particular source
(Brown, 2000). In this lab our group observed the effects of a commonly found
household chemical: coffee and tested it on duckweeds, also know as Lemna Minor
by performing an acute... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, we wondered how fast it would take place over the course of seven days.
We eventually came to the conclusion that coffee had the stimulant of caffeine
within it and could possible stunt the growth of the duckweeds. Then on Day 3,
we noticed a trend: the plants were growing roots, which was a good sign as they
continued to do so until the end. We also noticed the unexpected color and mixture
of the coffee changing within in each beaker. The coffee began to turn green and
murky, a oily film even began to develop over the top of it. As the days increased
our group took notice of the dissolved plants within bigger concentrations. On Day
5, we then began to notice a few unexpected dead duckweeds in higher toxicity
levels. We discussed and reasoned since coffee includes many different ingredients,
such as; potassium and phosphorus the duckweeds would increase in growth
(Caffeine Informer Staff, 2017). Many of the duckweeds formed roots and began to
expand in size which was a result of the coffee mixture. We also realized caffeine is a
chemical stimulant and can enhance the biological process not only in humans but in
plants at a stable rater: however, it can also kill plants due to the increase in acidity,
which is toxic to the plants. When humans have caffeine it stimulates our central
nervous system but due to the ingredients within it, it has a similar yet
The Income Statement
As it has always been a point of concern that people pay attention to the profitability
of a company and this can be as a result of several reasons. For example, let s picture
a company that was not able to operate profitably, the bottom line of the income
statement will indicate a Net Loss. Thus, a banker, lender or creditor may be reluctant
to extend additional credit to the company. While on the other hand, if a company
operates profitably, the bottom line of the income statementwill indicate a net profit or
income, which demonstrates its ability to use borrowed and invested funds in a
successful manner. A company s ability to operate profitably is important to current
lenders and investors, competitors, government agencies, labour... Show more content

Also, the company s outstanding reputation, the brand names developed and the
unique product lines within the company will also not be reported on the balance sheet
. The accountants matching principle will result in assets such as building, furniture
and fittings, equipment s, vehicles etc. that is being reported at amounts less than
these assets usually depreciate in value. Depreciation reduces an assets book value
each year and these amount that is being depreciated is reported as depreciation
expenses on the income statement.
Brief definition of what would be found in the balance sheet are;
a.Long term liabilities: long term liabilities such as Note Payable (not due within one
year) or Bonds Payable (not maturing within one year) will often have current values
that differ from the amounts reported on the Balance Sheet.
b.Current Assets: current assets such as cash, accounts receivable, inventory,
supplies, prepaid insurance etc. are usually close to the amount reported on the
Balance Sheet.
c.Current Liabilities: Current liabilities such as Notes Payable (due within one year),
Accounts payable, Wages Payable, Interest Payable, Unearned Revenue etc. are likely
to have current values that are close to the amounts that is been reported on the
Balance Sheet.
Note: By definition, the current Assets and Current Liabilities are turning over: at
least once a year and as a
Censorship Of Books
In Defense of the Constitution: We Want YOU to Free the BooksFrancois Marie
Arouet Voltaire once said, I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall
defend, to the death, your right to say it , which is unfortunately not the common
opinion amongst advocates of censorship across America today (Tallentyre).
Withdrawing books from the reachable shelves of libraries and schools across
America is leading to the inexcusable realm of conformity that is being found in the
nation, and world, today. Suppressing history, warping First Amendment rights, and
clouding culture, the censorshipof literature in today s world is ultimately impacting
society as a whole. Advisors, teachers, and administrators everywhere are
undermining student s intelligence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the release of Maya Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, a
startling memoir recounting the author s troubling childhood, it has been challenged
by 15 U.S. states and removed from countless libraries across the country, landing it
an almost permanent spot on the American Library Association s 100 Most
Frequently Challenged Books (ALA). Angelou s brutally honest depictions of rape
and racism are off putting to many parents across America, leading them to want to
safeguard their children from what are absolutely important, relevant topics in today
s society. This buffer that adults create is exactly what drives the problem within
society people in positions of power are building walls surrounding youths, keeping
the truthful, harsh problems of reality out, only letting the youth read and learn from
what has been deemed acceptable . This view of society is what I call second eye
blind ; because of censorship, children are viewing the world with one eye closed.
While these advocates exhort against the dangers of these writings, they are
ultimately misconstruing and distorting the messages behind author s writing,
instead of reading and learning from it
What Is Liquidity Of The Stock Market
Domestic stock market Size and liquidity
The Financial Markets in the UAE are rather unique in nature, they are fairly young
with an extraordinary growth potential in the long run. A wide, diverse selection of
securities is listed that can be traded in the Financial Market. These securities
include equities, securities, bonds, futures, mutual funds, commodities, currencies,
metals, stones, derivatives, and Sukuk (Islamic bonds) (Financial Markets Official
Portal of UAE, n.d). The two most important Financial Markets in the UAE are the
ADX and DFM. The DFM and ADX are both regulated by the SCA. However, the
ADX is usually used as a benchmark to assess the overall stock size and liquidity as
it provides a reflection on the overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banking system
The Central Bank of the UAE was established in 1980 (Crystal Peterson,2017). It is
the UAE s highest financial regulator. The Central Bank works with the state by
directing changes in Monetary, Banking, and Credit based policies appropriately.
It implements those policies in accordance to the state s current Financial and
Economic needs. Moreover, the Central Bank aims to stabilize the economy and
the current exchange rate by maintaining gold and other foreign currency reserves.
The UAE Central Bank, prohibits lending an amount greater than 7 percent of a
bank s capital base to any single customer (United Arab Emirates Banking System,
n.d). Furthermore, Islamic banking in the UAE has shown a boundless level of
progress due to no interest fees per Sharia Law. The UAE Islamic Financial Sector
was estimated to be worth around 127 Billion US Dollars in 2014, it is also the
third largest Islamic market by value after Saudi Arabia and Malaysia (John,2015).
In November 2011, the Central Bank introduced the IBAN system, its main purpose
was to ease the process of automatic money transfers and improve the accuracy and
speed of payment transactions (Standard Chartered Bank of UAE, n.d).
Tax environment Relevant Considerations
The UAE is tax free country. There are no Federal or Municipal taxes on both income
or wealth. Recently, the UAE has started implementing a 50
Creation And The Persistence Of Evil By Levenson
In Creation and the Persistence of Evil , Levenson asserts that God s divine
omnipotence originates from his battle with rather than banishment of evil. There
are a few textual facts to consider in analysis of this statement. In an initial class
discussion, we examined the fact that God did not create evil. He created what was
and what had the potential to be good (e.g. light, man), separating it from what is
deemed as evil (e.g. darkness). For instance, he did not create the tree of knowledge
of good and evil, but instead drew boundaries. Yet this concept from Genesis conflicts
with one that arises in Psalms 104:26. This verse states that Godcreated the
Leviathan, a sea monster, and later kills him in a battle ( thou brakest the heads of
Definition Essay On Heroes
There are many different types of heroes out there. There are the flashy heroes that
do a good deed for you own sake but they also do it for their own benefit. However,
the genuine heroes that act selfless for you is the kind of hero everyone needs in
their life. A true hero is someone who is always there for you, day or night. A hero
is
someone who would never lie to you, and someone you can always depend on. The
heroes I have in my life range from my parents, my doctor and my best friend.
However the ultimate hero is the culmination of those three figures. Someone who
cares for you like your parents do, saves you like a doctor does and also gives you the
never ending support like a best friend does. My ultimate hero happens to be my
parent
Power As A General Political Science
Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons.
Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists
over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further
exploring the literature on power as a general political scienceconcept and focus on its
aspects related to negotiation. From an international relationsperspective, realists for
example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other
measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a
classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of
other men , he further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control
among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large
(32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it
focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion
of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to
influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of
power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get
others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines
power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something
(182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of

Argumentative Essays. FREE 9 Argumentative Essay Samples in PDF

  • 1. Argumentative Essays Writing an essay on the topic of "Argumentative Essays" can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need to present a well-structured argument while effectively addressing counterarguments. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main argument is crucial, and supporting it with relevant evidence requires thorough research and critical thinking. The process involves delving into various perspectives on the issue, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of each, and constructing a coherent narrative that persuades the reader to align with the presented viewpoint. Balancing objectivity and persuasion is a delicate task, as the writer must navigate through a sea of opinions while maintaining a clear stance. Moreover, mastering the art of transitions is essential to ensure a seamless flow of ideas, guiding the reader through the logical progression of the argument. Clarity and conciseness become paramount, requiring the writer to express complex thoughts in a straightforward manner. Citing credible sources and incorporating them effectively is another hurdle. Proper citation and integration of evidence enhance the essay's credibility, but mishandling this aspect can result in a weakened argument. Revision is a crucial step in the essay-writing process. It demands a critical review of the structure, content, and language, aiming for coherence and persuasiveness. Constructive feedback from peers or instructors can be invaluable during this stage, helping to identify blind spots and refine the argument further. In essence, crafting an argumentative essay is an intellectually demanding task that demands a synthesis of research skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. While the process may be challenging, it provides a platform for honing essential skills that extend beyond academic pursuits. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or requiring support in essay writing, resources such as HelpWriting.net can offer valuable services. Professionals in the field can provide guidance, refine arguments, and contribute to the overall improvement of writing skills. Argumentative Essays Argumentative Essays
  • 2. Romeo And Juliet Bad Blood Quotes The song Bad Blood would fit in Act 3 scene 1. The beginning of the scene has Romeo adamantly tell Tybalt that he refuses to fight, and instead says, But love thee better than thou canst devise/ Till thou shalt know the reason of my love./ And so, good Capulet, which name I tender/ As dearly as mine own, be satisfied (lines 70 73). This quote shows that Romeo loves Tybaltlike his own family, because he is, though Tybalt does not know this. He will not fight Tybalt because he is Juliet s cousin. Mercutiowould not allow Tybalt to disrespect Romeo, and so they both fought. Although Romeo tried to break up the fight, Mercutio was stabbed and killed by Tybalt. As soon as Romeo realized that Tybalt killed his best friend, he forgets all about his decision to love Tybalt, and gets his revenge for the death of Mercutio.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example from the song is, Now we got problems/ And I don t think we can solve them/ You made a really deep cut/ And baby now we got bad blood . This would be like how Romeo is furious with Tybalt, and that nothing would be able to stop him from killing Tybalt for vengeance. An example of this would be when Romeo says, Mercutio s soul/ Is but a little way above our heads,/ Staying for thine to keep him company./ Either thou or I, or both, must go with him (lines 131 134). Romeo in a sense trusted Tybalt because he was family, but because he killed Mercutio, he lost that
  • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Of Tear Down This Wall In summer of 1987, President Ronald Reagan spoke to the citizens of Germany at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Throughout his speech, Tear Down This Wall , Ronald Reagan uses rhetorical techniques in order to convince Germany to accept western democracy and oppose the Berlin Wall. Reagan appeals to both extrinsic and intrinsic ethos. At the time, Reagan had a lot of extrinsic ethos and was known to be the Great Communicator , who had a lopsided victory election after a successful first term. Because of his political background, Reagan can get away with his lack of statistics and data. For example, Even today, the Soviet Union still cannot feed itself . Reagan does not back this up with any evidence, even if this statement could be taken literally, because he knows that his status as POTUS makes him seem trustworthy. Also, he acknowledges other opinions and views of other world leaders who oppose Western Democracy, then provides his own viewpoint on the matter. He mentions Khruschev and Moscow, stating In the 1950s Khrushchev predicted: We will bury you. But in the West today, we see a free world that has achieved a level of prosperity... In the Communist world, we see failure, technological backwardness, declining standards of health... too little food... We hear much from Moscow about a new policy of reform and openness... political prisoners have been released... foreign news broadcasts are no longer being jammed. Some economic enterprises have been permitted to operate with
  • 4. Work As A Physical Therapist Dillworth s work as a physical therapist puts her in a parallel position to a practitioner, as seen in First Marblehead Corp. v. House, 541 F.3d 36 (1st Cir. 2008). The expert s testimony in First Marblehead was relevant because the expert witness s professional background as a certified public accountant, with degrees in economics and financial advisement, would assist the trier of fact with understanding the financial complexities in the case from a practitioner s position. Alice Dillworth s professional testimony is reliable based on a continued commitment to update her opinions and knowledge as new and accurate science and discovery comes out in the area of prosthetics and physical therapy. II. LIFE RENEWAL INC. DID NOT BREACH ITS DUTY TO PROVIDE AN ADEQUATE WARNING Life Renewal Inc. did not cause the injuries that Christov sustained. • 5. Item Number Exemplified Learning Analysis The way I determined whether each item number exemplified learning, was by using my definition of what learning means and what I have been taught it means through this chapter. My definition of learning is the acquired knowledge or skills one has obtained by being taught, through experience, and/or by studying. I came up with item numbers 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, and 10 as being examples of learning. I would say 1, 4, 6, and 7 are not examples of learning. Considering the definition of learning by Hilgard and Bower, I wouldn t change any of my answers. Here are the reasonings for each number below: 1. • 6. Constitution Of Ideas The Constitution of Ideas An optimist is someone thinks on planet number five ... mankind will be less bloody. A pessimist is one who thinks otherwise (225) From different perspectives, two can view the same thing but see it drastically different. Thus, many oppositions exist throughout The Unbearable Lightness of Being are born, including faithfulness and infidelity, the the dichotomous poles of human existence, and the eternal return or a single existence. But behind all of these oppositions stands the opposition of lightness and heaviness as the building block of all of them. It is the atom behind all the molecules. Harnessing the power of the opposition of lightness and heaviness just as scientists harness the power of the atom, Kundera ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of eternal return is first introduced through warfare analogies, where a war between two African kingdoms in the fourteenth century happened only once and that it will [turn] into mere words, theories, lighter than feather (3, 4), whereas if the [war] were to recur eternally , it will be considered eternal return and it would become a solid mass, permanently protuberant (4, 4). Something that happened only once will be lost in its inanity to history, but something that reoccurs gains weight and becomes permanent. Thus, something could only be classified as eternal return if it occurs endlessly and adds weight in history. Kundera reiterates by saying that a Robespierre who occurs only once is history and a Robespierre who eternally returns, chopping off French heads (4) have infinite differences. Using Robespierre and his shocking guillotine in a humorous context of eternal return, Kundera manages to express his idea of weight in eternal return as well as mock history of its foolishness. Throughout the book, however, the idea of eternal return comes as the motif of birds of fortuity, as Tereza felt The birds of fortuity had alighted once more , and that she was impelled by the birds of fortuity fluttering down on her shoulder (75, 52). The symbol of a bird to embody
  • 7. False Picture of Marriage in The Dead by James Joyce and... Illusion versus Reality: Marriage in Modern Literature Modern literature is known for questioning society and its various conventions. One question that these works often ask is, What is real? Some modern authors explore this question by placing their characters within self constructed illusions that are later shattered by the introduction of reality. Marriages are frequently at the center of this theme, with one spouse crafting an illusory impression of the other. Modern literature demonstrates that a marriage built upon illusion will falter when exposed to reality. In order to understand the effects of illusion on marriages in modern literature, we will explore two pieces: The Dead by James Joyce and Odour of Chrysanthemums by D.H. ... In fact, his fondness for her grows throughout the story, to the point that he is nearly unable to contain his happiness and his longing to be alone with her (2194). Unfortunately, the connection that Gabriel feels to his wife is the product of illusion. In reality, he doesn t know her at all a fact Joyce alludes to when Gabriel fails to recognize his own wife and sees only, [a] woman standing near the top of the stairs... (2192). When Gretta begins to reminisce about a boy from her past, Gabriel s blanket of illusion is snatched away: While he had been full of...joy and desire, she had been comparing him in her mind with another (2197). Facing the reality of his wife s love for another man, Gabriel now begins to question their entire relationship. As Gabriel reflects on Gretta s sorrow for this lost young man, he comes to accept that he has never experienced that depth of feeling and love for another person not even for the wife that he had so desired just a short time before. He no longer looks at her through admiring and happy eyes; he now sees only her age and bitterly acknowledges that her face is no longer the face for which [the boy] braved death (2199). The reality of Gretta s past has revealed the shallowness of his feelings and the hollowness in his life, and Gabriel s picture of Gretta is forever changed. While Elizabeth and Gabriel each created a different type of illusion, the end result was the same their
  • 8. Wound Weights Movement Analysis I suggests women generally start with a set of two 5 to 10 pound weights, and men start with a set of two 10 to 20 pound weights. How to: Stand with a weight in each hand, near hips, palms forward. Shoulders and elbows should be pinned against the wall. Without moving upper arms, curl weights up until dumbbells are shoulder level, then lower to starting position. Aim for 14 to 22 reps with good form shoulders flat against the wall, raising arms for a count of two and lowering them for a count of two. Bend your left knee and place it on top of the box, and extend your right leg back behind you, knee slightly bent, toes on the floor. Lean over at the hips and place your left arm on the box in front of your knee to help brace yourself. Pick up your dumbbell with the right hand. Keeping your back flat, elbow close to your body, lift the weight up towards the right side of your chest, while simultaneously squeezing your shoulders together. Slowly lower dumbbell back down. Complete prescribed amount of reps, then switch to the other side. Over time, you may find your heavy set of weights feels lighter to you as you master your lifts and build muscle. Congrats: Now, start adding more weight, in five pound increments. It s called progressive overload; you re going to slowly add weight and it should be done within a targeted rep range, Booker

  • 10. Athenian Democracy Influenced Western Political Thought Abstract In this paper, I intend to show that ancient Athenian democracy influenced western political thought, specifically, western democracies. By influencing such modern day democracies, ancient Greek culture remains a presence in contemporary life. Introduction Approximately 2500 years ago a series of changes and reformations in political thought led to the creation of the ancient Athenian democracy. Through the changes implemented by Solon and Cleisthenes during the Golden Age of Greece, democracy was born in Athens. Although it was somewhat impractical, exclusionist, and only open to a very small percentage of the total Athenian population, its impact is still felt today. Athenian democracy is widely recognized as the model from which all other forms of democratic rule has evolved from. Through the principles handed down from that Athenian democracy, ancient Greek culture remains a prominent presence in contemporary life, particularly in regard to its democratic policies. The concept of Democracy dates back to the Classic Period, otherwise known as the Golden Age of Greece. Prior to becoming a unified nation, Greece was made up of city states that were constantly warring with one another. None of these city states possessed full control over its neighbors. It was during this time and because of these circumstances that there was great advancement in Greek thought encompassing philosophy and politics. These advancements are responsible for the strong Greek
  • 11. The Collapse Of Andrew Carnegie Insert Title later Believe it or not, skyscrapers have only been around since the the late 1880 s. The main reason for this was because the materials used to build buildings at the time could not support the weight of a skyscraper. If people wanted to build taller buildings, they had to use stronger materials that could withstand the weight of the building and keep it from collapsing. At the time, that material was steel, but there was a problem; steel was not mass produced at the time. This made it financially unethical to build with, the price of steel only began to drop after Andrew Carnegie created his steel business. Andrew Carnegie helped strengthen the American economy turning it into a world power by learning from his poverty when he was younger, starting his steel business which provided the world an important resource for the development of industry, taking advantage of workers to maximize profit, and devoting his later life to philanthropy. Carnegie was very poor during his childhood, and this will cause him to try a variety of jobs that inevitably led to his steel empire. Andrew Carnegie was born November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline, Scotland. His father, William Carnegie, a prosperous handloom weaver at the time of Andrew s birth, was unable to compete with the new technology of steam loomers and fell into poverty as Andrew grew older, (UXL biographies). In 1848, Andrew and his family immigrated to Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, and Andrew got a job at a
  • 12. Greek Influence On Roman Architecture The lasting structures of Rome have allowed historians to paint a picture of what civilization looked like centuries ago. From the grand arches to the temples and bathhouses, the development of concrete enabled the Romans to build sturdy structures with designs largely influenced by the Greeks. In part because of this advancement, the Roman structure was able to survive and display for the world the expansion and influence of the Roman Empire. While it was not of their creation, the Romans improved upon the arch upon the realization that it s shape allowed them to create and cover large amounts of territory. Utilizing a slave class that grew as they expanded, Rome had plenty of laborers to complete their grand structures. In fact, an alternative name for the piece is L Optimisme, or The Optimist. Specifically, Voltaire examines and satirizes Leibnizian optimism, or the notion that humans inhabit the best of all possible worlds, as Gottfried Leibniz phrased it in his early Enlightenment era work, ThГ©odicГ©e. Throughout Candide, the readers are introduced to some characters who hold very optimistic outlooks out about life and their current situations, namely Candide himself and Pangloss, Candide s mentor. Despite all this, the old lady continues to hold a positive attitude. In addition, Voltaire describes an actual historical event, the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, through the eyes of Candide. The earthquake, which, ironically enough, occurred on All Saints Day, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar, resulted in the deaths of over 100,000 people who were mostly attending church services throughout the day. • 15. Outline The Importance Of Duty Of Care A duty of care is a legal obligation taken on by carer, with the understanding that we are agreeing to make sure that we provide a high standard and quality of care to our residents. Every person is entitled to be supported and should be able to live in an environment such as a care home, which is free from prejudice, safe from abuse, cared for in a reasonable, responsible and respectful manner and where they can feel protected. Under the terms of duty of care, it is our responsibility to make sure that we make this happen professionally, lawfully, and as always abide by policies and procedures set out by our care setting. It is our role as carers, to ensure that all duties are carried out safely and effectively. We must work alongside safeguarding policies and procedures and is important that we all receive adequate training and refresher courses. Even though the basis and foundations of duty of care will never change, factors which support it will. This is why we must attend and be offered training so we can change with the times and the service user, family and our colleagues can have complete faith in us that we are trained to the best of our ability and national standards. It is also our duty to record all relevant information, be it an accident or incident, an occurrence, or even part of a daily care record. It must be factual, written in a professional, legible manor, signed and dated. Where possible we need to document this sooner rather than later, whilst it is
  • 16. The Effectivity Of Three Strikes Law Habitual offender laws or as it is known, the three strikes law is hated by most people and even ex president Bill Clinton regrets signing this law. This law is more complex than simple. Each state has its own version of this law, with California being the strictest by implementing this law on criminals with non violent felonies (Kieso). The effectivity of three strikes law has been questioned thousands of times because this law has the chance to ruin peoples lives who could have changed their paths; however, it can also lock up those who will never change. Like every law, the three strikes law is not perfect and it might lead to extreme results like in the case of Persistent Phellon. There is evidence that these laws work in some cases and not in others. There is a study where in California violent crimes have decreased by 38 percent and saved billions of dollars; however, there is another study which says the opposite. Counties in California with heavy enforce of the law saw fewer changes than the ones that were less strict (Wood). This means that it is hard to prove or disprove if the law is working. Since the counties with less used of the law saw a decline in people being charged than counties with heavy use of the law, counties with heavy use of the law should use the law less frequent. There was an obvious change since the law was implemented, but it cannot be confirmed that this law was the one which helped crime drop. The tables above show how much violent crimes

Examples Of Manifest Destiny Manifest Destiny is a belief that United States was destined by God to stretch across the continent from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and into Mexican Territory. Manifest Destiny came into act as a result of political pressure on slavery issue and fear of foreign threats. This idea provided opportunity for Americans to spread their beliefs of freedom, liberty and democracy across the continent. Manifest Destiny began with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, expansion plans of Polk (annexation of Texasin 1845), and dispute with Great Britain over Oregon Territory. The first example of Manifest Destiny is the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, a westward expansion of the Mississippi River. Parking Lot Research Paper Why A Porous Asphalt Parking Lot Is A Good Choice For Your Commercial Property If you re planning a new parking lot for your place of business, one thing you must consider is water runoff. If rain can t seep through the parking lot surface, it must be diverted to a pond or storm sewer. The solution to this problem is to have the contractor use porous asphalt so water can drain through the soil naturally. Here are a few things you should know. Drain Rainwater Naturally Rain normally drains into the soil where it is naturally filtered as it works its way into the groundwater supply. Roads, driveways, and parking lots disrupt this process by covering the surface of the soil. Gravel is ideal for allowing rainwater to soak into the ground, but it is not a good surface for a commercial parking lot. Porous asphalt is the best solution since it has an attractive appearance, allows for water drainage, and has a surface that can be marked with parking spaces. Avoid Building A Pond If you don t install a porous parking lot, you might be required to build a detention pond on your property. The pond area is there to collect water that runs off your lot when it rains. The pond holds the water until it can sink into the ground. Building a pond adds to the cost of installing a parking lot. Hypotensive Anesthesia Induced hypotensive anesthesia: Deliberate hypotensive anesthesia was first introduced to clinical practice by Gardner in 1946 who used arteriotomy to reduce arterial blood pressure during removal of a vascular lesion from the base of the skull (Gardner, 1946). Schaberg et al. (1976) was the first surgeon who used this technique in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Controlled hypotension is commonly used technique to limit blood loss during specific surgical procedures on specific areas in which surgical hemostasis may be difficult (hip, spine, and facial bones) (Tobias, 1996), but Samman (2008) concluded that this technique remains controversial in oral and maxillofacial surgery after a systemic review regarding benefits and risks of deliberate hypotension in anesthesia. Several different pharmacologic agents have been used for controlled hypotension, including inhalational anesthetic agents, beta adrenergic antagonists, calcium channel blockers, and vasodilators such as nitroglycerin and sodium nitroprusside (Rodrigo, 1995). As reported by Schaberg et al. (1976) hypotensive anesthesia decrease the reduction of blood loss volume by 44%. Dolman et al. (2000) compared hypotensive and normotensive anesthesia in mean blood loss in orthognathic surgery patients and he found that mean blood loss in patients operated under normotensive anesthesia was 270.2 ml while patients treated under hypotensive anesthesia was 120.3 ml. Praveen et al. (2001) mentioned that mean blood loss in patient operated in hypotension was 200 ml and patient under normotension was 350 ml with 44% reduction in blood loss. A systemic review done by Choi and Samman (2008) and they concluded that hypotensive anesthesia is effective in blood loss and can be justified to be used as a routine procedure for orthognathic surgery especially bimaxillary osteotomy. Ervens et al. (2010) found that average blood loss in normotensive group was 1021 ml

All the objects in the house were covered in dust, yet this letter had none on it. She begins to wonder how did the letter appeared on the table; the caretaker is away and the letter should have been forwarded to her residence in the country. Mrs. Drover reads the letter in her old bedroom, which she discovers the letter was from her fiance that was presumed dead during the first World War. In terror she remembers what he left her, that cut of the button on her palm of hand was, principally, what she was to carry away, (Bowen 1085). Her fiance was aggressive and physically hurt Mrs. Drover to leave a memory of him.. In panic, Mrs. Drover rushes to finish her tasks in the house as she wonders how he knows she is there and when will he come. These thoughts are running through her head, as well as the reader s head. Mrs. Drover becomes haunted with memories she has of him. The letter is signed with by K so the reader is unaware of who the fiance is and his past; however, based upon Mrs. Drover s reaction, the reader can conclude that this man is someone to be feared. Super Natural can be defined as anything that is not normal. Super Natural is used in Midsummer Night s Dream to create disagreements and resolve things in the play. The Super Natural element is used in The Tempest through the use of Black Magic used by the evil witch Sycorax and the White Magic used by Prospero, the Duke of Milan. One example of the effect that fairies make in the play is when Puck mistakenly enchants Lysander into falling in love with Helena instead of Demetrius. This mistake only gets worst when Oberon and Puck enchant Demetrius into falling in love with Helena as well. Now, both men are in love with Helena. The Super Natural can also be seen in the play when Oberon tells Puck that he has been targeted by cupid s arrow and now serves as a love potion. The juice of it on sleeping eye lids laid will make or man or woman madly dotes upon the next live creature that is sees (II.I.173 175) Midsummer Night s Dream was written by William Shakespeare between 1594 and 1596. Midsummer Night is believed to be less dramatic and tragic than The Tempest . The Super Natural element in Midsummer Night s Dream is less vengeful and dark, but more childish and playful. In Midsummer Night s Dream, the whole play revolves around magic and fairies. If Puck had never charmed Lysander or if Puck had charmed Demetrius instead of Lysander, the play would not have been as dramatic as we know of it

There are several things that you may associate with this country such as St. Patrick s Day, shamrocks, beer, and strife. The source of the bitterness behind this conflict began centuries ago, when Britain came over and forced Protestantism on the Irish Catholic inhabitants. This event gave the Catholics yet another reason to dislike the Unionists. The Unionists also used crooked politics to ensure Protestant control. One way of doing this was by gerrymandering the political district lines. For example, one ward was ninety percent Catholic while the rest of the Catholics were scattered about in Protestant wards (Golway 280). By dividing the districts this way it made the Catholic votes virtually meaningless. Then, the Protestant controlled government passed the Civil Authorities Act. This Act granted the government the right to search homes without a warrant, impose curfews, and randomly arrest citizens even if no real crime had been committed. The Catholics were the ones who were primarily oppressed by these laws. Other laws limited the education of Catholics, restricted them from holding office, and they were also discriminated against on the job. Protestants filled many of the positions leaving the Catholics jobless (Golway 280). This policy of discrimination helped inflate the already high poverty rate in Ire that they could feed their family, they also had to worry about curfews and being arrested for no apparent reason. This is not right. The government should not be allowed to pass laws that would help single out a certain minority. This is an example of how propaganda can be used in politics. There are so many influences in our world that makes it difficult to create your view on racism. I think racism is thinking that one group of people is more superior over another. The amount of hatred people have towards one another is heartbreaking. From a young age, I have been observing the world and developing my world view. Historical examples, modern examples, and Gods Word have all shaped my view on racism. As I have grown up I have learned about racism in history. There are many examples that we learn about in history class. One example that always comes to my mind when I think about raceis during the Holocaust when the Jews were being killed by the Nazis because they were not considered humans. Another example is in the 1800 s when America was divided because of slavery. I think as an American it is important to learn about slavery and the civil war to better understand what our country used to be like and what it has gone through. My mom has done a very good job in educating my sister and I about racism. I cannot count the times I have gone to Greenfield Village or the Henry Ford museum in my life and it has opened my eyes. At the museum and village, I got to see and experience hands on historical examples of what the African Americans had to go through. I got to see the different water fountains, schools, churches, and bathrooms for the different colors. And how they could only have certain jobs because they were considered dumb. I have sat in the exact seat Rosa Parks sat in when she refused to move to the back of the bus. I saw the housing and conditions that the slaves had to go through when working on the plantations and much more. It makes you step back and think about these events. It is hard to not relate because it happened years ago, but when you see it up close and personal it changes your thoughts. The most effective way to regulate the levels of toxicity in discharge waters is to perform acute and chronic toxicity on the water discharge from a particular source (Brown, 2000). He created what was and what had the potential to be good (e.g. light, man), separating it from what is deemed as evil (e.g. darkness). For instance, he did not create the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but instead drew boundaries. Yet this concept from Genesis conflicts with one that arises in Psalms 104:26. • 53. Power As A General Political Science Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political scienceconcept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relationsperspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of other men , he further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something (182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of
