Essays On Racial Profiling
Crafting an essay on the subject of racial profiling is undeniably challenging, requiring a delicate
balance of sensitivity, thorough research, and critical analysis. This topic delves into complex and
often contentious issues surrounding discrimination, bias, and systemic inequalities. As a writer,
navigating through the myriad of perspectives, historical contexts, and real-world examples
demands a nuanced approach.
One of the primary difficulties lies in presenting a comprehensive overview while avoiding
oversimplification. Racial profiling is a multifaceted phenomenon with roots in social, cultural,
and political dynamics. Addressing its various dimensions requires a deep understanding of
historical events, legal frameworks, and the socio-economic factors that contribute to its
persistence.
Moreover, an essay on racial profiling necessitates a careful examination of the ethical
implications involved. It requires the writer to critically engage with the moral dimensions of
discriminatory practices and to convey these insights in a manner that promotes understanding
rather than exacerbating tensions.
Researching the topic can be emotionally taxing, as it involves confronting the stark realities of
racial injustice. The writer must grapple with the harsh consequences of profiling on individuals
and communities, all while maintaining objectivity and a commitment to fostering empathy and
awareness.
In addition, formulating solutions and advocating for change poses its own set of challenges.
Constructing a compelling argument for reform and addressing the systemic issues at play
requires a thorough exploration of policy implications, societal attitudes, and the potential
resistance to change.
In conclusion, tackling the task of writing an essay on racial profiling demands intellectual rigor,
emotional resilience, and a commitment to justice. It is a journey that requires the writer to
navigate through the complexities of a deeply ingrained societal issue, all while striving to
contribute meaningfully to the discourse. For those seeking assistance in exploring such intricate
topics or crafting compelling essays, various resources, including professional writing services,
can provide valuable support. Explore the wealth of knowledge and perspectives available to
delve into these critical discussions further.

Importance Of Self Reflection
Research has been increasingly done on learning and self reflect and its
effectiveness, one of the first researchers john Dewey stated, we do not learn from
experience... We learn from reflecting on experience. John believed that deep
learning comes from array of experience, reflection, abstraction, and active testing.
James Zull s (2002) fascinating book on the biology of learning, points out
evidence that the learning cycles arises naturally from the structure of the brain.
Donald Schon also amongst the first to write about reflective practice with his
exploration of experience, interaction and reflection with his book the reflective
practitioner in 1983, Donald defines reflective practice as the practice by which
professionals become receptive of the implicit knowledge base and learn from
their experience. The practitioners allowed Donald to experience puzzlement,
surprise or confusion in a situation which is found uncertain or unique. Self
reflection is like considering a mirror and describing what you see. The term refers
to an activity or process in which an experience is recalled, considered and
evaluated to gain insight on oneself, ones valued or knowledge gained. The ability
to reflect on experience encourages insight and complex learning. In contrast, self
reflection is a process used to study one s own performance in order to improve it. In
order for one to succeed, it is vital to have knowledge of what each strengths and
weaknesses are for self development
Slavery in the Caribbean
The period of slavery was characterised primarily by one protracted war launched by
those enslaved against their enslavers (V. Shepherd). Discuss with special reference

Where ever there was slavery, there was resistance (University of the West Indies

communities and the birth of Creolized Africans, slaves have resisted and resented
the hostile confinements of slavery. The harsh realities of slavery left many enslaved

It is important to note the reason for African slave resistance. African born slaves
revolted because Slaves born in Africa who conceived of resistance as all out war
in African style to destroy the alien plantations or separate entirely from them (qtd
in Knight 242). These slaves could still remember the freedom they once shared in
their homeland and resisted in every way to regain that freedom. Many African
slaves would attempt to regain that freedom by running away and forming Maroon
communities. Upon arrival into the new world many slaves would run away as
another attempt to escape slavery; initiating another transition in slave rebellion,
from African dominated to maroonage. Maroonage was a powerful expression of
slave resistance because it allowed slaves to enjoy the freedom they once had or
longed to have. Running away from plantations was a frequent practice. It was often
attempted when there was hope of great success such as the availability of
mountainous areas or dense forests. This was common in Caribbean countries such
as Jamaica, Trinidad, Cuba, Hispaniola and Dominica. While in the new world,
slaves had a better opportunity to achieve freedom by escaping from plantations
rather than waiting to be emancipated or to be regarded as free. Maroon communities
were formed and grew rapidly. This caused the ratio of White to Black to become
disproportionate and strength ruled in favour of the Africans. The enslaved
commonly retreated to the mountains
Why Dogs Are Homeless
That dogs are the best and more reliable friends of people, was proved long time
ago. Dog serves us, performing a variety of functions: protects mansion,
apartments, takes part in military operations, helps in the sanitary and search
activities, comes to the help for people in the water, serves the blind people as a
guide, makes children happy and their presence is rescue for lonely people. That s
why we love dogs. Also, pets have become a part of the families. But, still millions
of cats and dogs are left homeless every year. Dogs become homeless of different
reasons. Sometimes dogs are left on the roadsides, some of them are lost because
their owners didn t take care of them properly and others were homeless from the
birth. Lots of people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Berlin, Germany is the largest animal shelter in Europe. It can accommodate
about 2,000 animals and any type of animal, from rodents to horses. This shelter as
any other in Germany follows a no kill policy, so they will just euthanize an animal
when it will be medically necessary. Also, in Germany are lots of good shelters that
can provide necessary aids for homeless animals. In Australia, there are volunteers
that encourage people to take care of an animal. But dog requires a lot of money,
time and attention. If a person won t take care of them properly they will become
homeless again and it will be an unfinished process. The truth is that for every
homeless dog which looking for a home, there is only one person wants to take
care of an animal. Others will be sent to shelters and during a few days they will be
killed, because shelters for dogs are overloaded today. In countries such as Russia,
Romania, Ukraine, Egypt and Greece people deal with street dogs very cruel.
Stray dogs are beaten and poisoned. In Ukraine, before the Euro 2012 to clean up
streets, homeless dogs were burnt while some of them were still alive. In Kiev,
according to official figures live 30,000 homeless dogs, according to unofficial there
Leadership And The Graduate Nursing Role
Leadership and the Graduate Nursing Role My leadership style is both
Participative and Delegative, which means as a leader I value and take into
considerations the opinions and suggestions of my group but still makes the final
decision, but also sometimes in some occasion or circumstances I allow the group
members to conclude and make the decision themselves. Being both participative
and delegative leader it only means that I can adjust to different situations, which I
can strongly impose my decisions and at the same time recognize and value the
opinion of others when circumstance calls for it. Being a participative leader, the

This helps them to feel they are as important as the leader or any member of the
group. Members of the group would feel good and personally liable when the
decision results to a positive outcome that would result to better performance in the
workplace (Root, 2015). Participative leadership also improves Creativity, because
by asking other members of the group for a decision they tend to think of different
solutions and ideas to the common problem of the group from which the leader
can select the best possible solution. Aside from creativity this leadership style also
helps retain nurses within the organization. Making them feel that they contribute
to the well being and progress of the group or the organization would make them
feel valued and would remain loyal to the group (Root, 2015). I am a participative
leader but at the same time I am also a delegative leader. Delegative leadership is a
style in which most decisions within the group is not made by the leader but
instead it is created by the group members. As a leader I believe that there are still
things that I do not know or skills that I further need to enhance or improve, that is
why I delegate some of the task to the members of the group whom I believe can
perform better, who is knowledgeable and trustworthy to make the right decision
based on the situation. Delegative leadership is also known as a Laissez Fair which
is a hands off approach. This

Easily Obtainable Information
In the age of cutting edge technology such as the world in which we live, easily
obtainable information has turned out to be a mainstay in society. The days of instant
gratification are upon us and waiting for any length of time since the advent of the
Internet has become unacceptable in the technological arena. Because information is
so easily available, this gives pause to security and privacy of personal identifiable
information. With headlines screaming Identity Theft the disadvantages are clear. No
longer can users post whatever they are thinking, doing, wearing, etc. without the
profound knowledge that each post is forever solidified forever on the World Wide
Web for anyone with an Internet connection to access. Those with less technological
knowledge have yet to grasp this concept and this unfortunately has caused harm to
their personal lives and professional careers, in some cases.
Advantages of Easily Obtainable Information
One point of preference of adequately realistic data is practicality. It is advantageous
for individuals to be in one place and catch the most blazing news, listen to the crisp
top melodies on the announcement diagrams, watch and share the music recordings
to those tunes, while in the meantime holding discussions through talk with various
companions in a flash. It is simpler than perusing an entire
Essay Oedipus as Scapegoat in Oedipus the King
Oedipus as Scapegoat in Oedipus the King
The great psychologist philosopher Carl Jung was briefly a student of Freud.
Because Jung felt that Freud s approach to psychoanalysis was by far too narrow, he
broke off from his teachings, and made significant contributions to mythological
criticism. Jung s greatest contribution was his theory of archetypes. His proposal of
archetypes argues that there is one original pattern or model of all things of the same
type. According to Jung, beneath the personal unconscious is a collective
unconscious that is in the psychic inheritance of all humans. Jung thought of the
collective unconscious as a sort of memory bank that stores images and ideas that
humans have accumulated over the course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The archetype is further fulfilled by the sacrificial scapegoat being permitted to
engage in sexual intercourse with a woman usually forbidden to him (Vickery 44).
The scapegoat is a person blessed with special attributes courage, strength,
dedication who is summoned by a calling which rouses him from the comfortable
routines of his daily life and sets him on a road of adventure (Brunel 321). In some
instances the herald that provokes the scapegoat to take action is an incident
which unexpectedly disrupts his day to day existence. In response to the calling
the scapegoat leaves his familiar surroundings and ventures out into a foreign
world. This point within the scapegoat s quest is referred to as the crossing of the
threshold because he is entering a region of mystery and danger (Brunel 321).
Once the scapegoat has passed into the foreign world he immediately endures
adventures, which often times involve his encounter with other archetypal figures
(Brunel 322). Because the world that the scapegoat enters is so full of danger, he
is often assisted in his adventure by various helpful beings. The hero, it is clear,
needs all the help he can get on the Quest, for whatever leads him, his journey is
always, in a sense, a voyage to hell, a descent into a nightmarish landscape where he
must survive a series of ordeals (Brunel 323). The quest often leads the sacrificial
scapegoat to self discovery, allowing him to examine the depths of his unexplored

1998 Talk about epic! Jordan s career ended, the term Google was used in everyday
conversation, Kosmo Kramer was a household name. the technological advances
and legendary events of 1998 are featured by the 1998 Bulls, Google, IMac,
Seinfeld and MP3s. The 1998 Chicago Bulls have made records that still have not
been broken. They won the NBA Finals, this made them get their second 3 peat
(1997 98 Chicago BullsSeason). This means they won three NBA Finals in a row.
This was their sixth with in eight years. Phil Jackson coached some of the best
basketball players, such as Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and even Michael Jordan!
Each of those three players and the coach are in the Hall of Fame today, including
the assistant coach Tex Winter during the 97 98 season (1997 98 Chicago Bulls
Season). Today we are still affected by this team as one of the best. Also Michael
Jordan is still the best player in the league, with unbreakable records. We can learn
from them what it takes to be a good team. While the Bulls set records still
unreachable to this day, Google broke records soon after its introduction. The thing
many of us use today, as a matter of fact 5,922,000,000 people use it

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Museum
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
Before the mid twentieth century, museums in Europe and the United States were
generally planned in variations of the neoclassical style. But, the Guggenheim
museum in Bilbao moved the heading of gallery outlines, which gave an extensive
show venue to twentieth century and modern art, designed by the famous architect
Frank Gehry. Architecture is important nowadays to the public, because it offers a
physical surrounding environment in where we live in. Moreover, architecture is not
only affected by the culture, but also by the economy of the country.
Frank Gehry is one of the handful modern architects that are worldwide known by his
inventive and pioneering work. The American Canadian architect was born Frank
Owen Goldberg in Toronto, Canada on February 28, 1929, based in Los Angeles
since 1962. He studied architecture at the University of Southern California and city
planning in Harvard University. Gehry is known for his postmodern structures and
unusual inventions. His most popular buildings include the Guggenheim Museum in
Bilbao, Spain and the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum that represents modern and
contemporary art. Its story first begins when Thomas Krens the director of Solomon
R. Guggenheim foundation in New York City, was looking for a museum location in
Europe. He chose the industrial wasteland in the middle of the city on a curve of the
Nervion River. The site was located in the center of
My Argument With My Local Muslim Community
The world is comprised of many people living in different communities that are all
interconnected. As a Muslim myself, I have a strong affinity with my local Muslim
community. This community is important to me because it brings people of all
cultures closer by working together on events that benefit our community and others.
Mentors in our Muslim community hold a strong place that younger people can look
up to and seek advice from. In the younger generation, there is an identity crisis about
being a Muslim American. The presence of mentors is necessary to combat this issue.
As unique individuals of the Muslim community, we are the representatives that help
build the bridges between other Muslims and non Muslims in our greater community.

Kate Chopin s “The Storm” Essay
The short story, The Storm by Kate Chopin is about a love that could never be
until it briefly was. The point that Chopin was trying to get across was that Calixta
and Alcee had a strong passion for one another, and perhaps loved each other, but
they could never have been married because of their social differences. It is a
passionate, but brief affair between two married people from different social classes
that takes place during a cyclonein Louisiana around 1898. The story symbolizes
the freedom that a woman felt inside after the rain during a time when women had
no freedom. (Firtha lesson 2 page 1)Calixta and Alcee had a strong passion for each

as she lay in his arms. (Chopin807)
Their love making was so intense that neither of them had felt those emotions and
sensations before. She was a revelation in that dim, mysterious chamber; as white
as the couch she lay upon. (Chopin807) Chopin goes on to say; The generous
abundance of her passion, without guile or trickery, was like a white flame which
penetrated and found response in depths of his own sensuous nature that had never
yet had been reached. (807) She stated that text because Calixta had never felt that
way with her own husband. Also, Chopin refers to her mouth being a fountain of
delight. (807) She adds, And when he possessed her, they seemed swoon together at
the very borderline of life s mystery. (807)This must have been when they reached
their climax. They were over whelmed by ecstatic joy. (Freedictionary.com/swoon)

Storage Of The Packet Filtering Essay
1)According to Bergstra and Burgess (2007), static packet filers have a complex
network layer. They only examine one packet at any given time. They also block
SNY scans over the network. By only considering one packet at a given time,
stateless packet filtering does not stop major attacks determined by knowing the
position of the packet in a given stream of traffic. There is no context applied to the
packet during transmission. For instance, stateless packet filtering cannot protect
against denial of service (Do S) attack as it only examines the individual packets,
instead of determining the connection state alongside the related and or unrelated
packets. 2) Hinglaspure and Burghate (2014) indicates that since static filers do not
preserve the results after examining the packets, they are unable to relate the current
and already examined packets. By only examining some fields of the Internet and
Transport headers, static packet filtering cannot stop the attacks using other packet
portions. Hackers are able to fool static firewalls easily because they are not smart
enough. For instance, the filters may not examine attacks that use data field of the
application messages, making the system more disposed to to the external attack.
2)Application proxy severs safeguard the internal clients from some mischievous
external servers. They force all client connections to pass through the proxy that in
turn examines the application content of all packets during transmission.
The Impact Of Big Data, Big Impact
Big Data, Big Impact Big Data is has been around in Information Sciences since the
1990s. Over the past years, the amount of data we create, communicate and store
has grown exponentially. Big Data is already a big influence on our lives. Whether
you contribute to the ever growing dataset of Facebook or your supermarket gives
you discounts for items you never expected to need , Big Data is all around us and
has an impact on all of us. Let us start by defining Big Data. Big Data is the term for
datasets that are too big to process in traditional ways such as databases and simple
analytics software. The size of big data is a moving target as storage and processing
capacities grow. Because these datasets are so big (100 petabytes if you are
Facebook for example) when working with them, you face a few challenges: storage

However, how do you identify a new parent before he/she actually becomes a
parent? This led to an awkward case of a Target customer receiving discounts for
diapers for his underage daughter whose pregnancy went unaware until the
customer received the coupons. Big Data is a part of our life while we sometimes
do not know it yet. Big Data is all around us, from creating our anniversary videos
on Facebook and giving Netflix recommendations to utilizing all cellphones as
weather stations to improve predictions (source 4) and combining it with machine
learning for interesting insights. (source 5) All this data needs to be processed,
creating a multitude of jobs in the data science field. Companies with products

Describing Shylock of William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice
When then Merchant of Venice was written, the religion in this country was
Christianity. Anybody who was not of that religion was looked down upon,
especially those who were Jews. They were treated despicably, so as the play starts
and as Shylock is introduced as a Jew it is certain that he is going to be depicted as
the lowest of the low, as being mercenary and sadistic. However, as the play
progresses we see another side of Shylock, we see him as the victim of many years
of Christian abuse, both verbal or physical, and we can see that his behaviour is
understandable due to the persecution he has suffered.
I think that Shylock is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We start to see another side to Shylock in this scene. He is about to have dinner with
Antonio and Bassanio. He is telling his daughter, Jessica to look after his house.
This shows Shylock to be slightly sadistic as he is keeping his daughter like a
prisoner and won t let her enjoy the parade and its music as it passes their house.
When Jessica runs away with the Christian, Lorenzo, taking Shylock s money with
them, my dislike for Shylock is deepened. This is because he is more worried about
losing his money than his daughter. He shouts, My daughter! O my ducats! O my
ducats! Fled with a Christian! O my Christian ducats!
This is a time when we should feel sympathy for Shylock but his sorrow of losing
his ducats is far greater than his sorrow of losing his daughter, making me feel he is
unloving and mercenary.
However, once I start thinking that Shylock is an unloving, sadistic and mercenary
villain, Shakespeare invokes sympathy for Shylock. As when Shylock says, I say
my daughter is my flesh and my blood. We see that Shylock is upset about his
daughter running away with a Christian. He sees this as the greatest sin against him.
He is also very bitter but Solanio and Salario just makes fun of him.
Once again, we can see why Shylock is so intent on revenge and why he behaves
like he does. I think he is almost justified in his actions as the Christians constantly

The Spanish American War of 1898 Essay
The Spanish American War of 1898 One hundred years ago, in 1898, the United
States was fighting the Spanish American War. The victory over Spain made the
United States a colonial power. The Spanish colonies of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam,
and the Philippines, as well as the formerly independent nation of Hawaii, became
American possessions. The excuse for entering the war was the rebellion by the
Cubans against Spanish rule and the explosion of an American battleship U.S.S.
Maine. The Spanish colonies in mainland North and South America became
independent in the early 1800s, but Cuba and Puerto Rico remained Spanish. Many
Americans in the U.S. sympathized with Cuba, which began in 1895, and also,
maybe more importantly, U.S. citizens... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before dawn on May 1, 1898, Commodore George Dewey s flagship Olympia led
seven U.S. Navy cruisers and gunboats into Manila Bay. By 8 AM that morning
Dewey s squadron had located and destroyed virtually the entire Spanish naval
forces in the Philippines. Damage to the American ships was very little, and their
crews suffered no fatalities and few injuries. The Battle of Manila Bay was a
singular demonstration of the daring and decisive application of sea power. In a
few hours, Dewey had eliminated any threat that the Spanish Navy might pose to
U.S. Far Eastern commerce and placed Spain s centuries long rule of the
Philippines in great jeopardy. A few days later, with the capture of Cavite arsenal,
he also gained a repair and refueling base, essential for maintaining his squadron
under wartime conditions thousands of miles from home. On May 15, Theodore
Roosevelt began training the famous Rough Riders for battles in Cuba, which
brought him the fame that made him vice president in 1901 and then president on
September 13 . In Washington, President McKinley received the news of the great
battle. However, the battle of Manila did not end the war. 100 miles off the US
coast is where Spanish held Cuba, by a substantial army, and hostile to American
interests there. No naval force could impose on Cuba, and in order to force the
Spanish out, a full scale invasion would have to be mounted. In 1897, Theodore

Mobile Phone And Modern Cell Phone
Research Question Over years technology has expanded dramatically. The amount
of high level technology that is around us today in popular culture is massive.
Things such as ipads, computers, tvs, ipods, and especially cell phones are used
24/7. Since 1876, when Alexander Graham Bell invented the first phone, it was a
major success in technology. People could finally communicate with each other on
the phone without actually having to see the person. The invention was great and
really expanded the world with the telephone. Humans love to socialize. Before
the telephone was invented people had to get up and actually physically talk to the
person. However, as time went on phones have expanded. Home phones led to cell
phones and now we have all the iphones. Are we getting more sociable with the
resource we have in the cell phone? Not just the physical aspect of the phone but all
the things that apply on the phone such as all the social media apps like twitter,
facebook, and instagram that are all accessible on the phone. The research study
that i want to analyze is does the modern day cell phone make people less
physically social. Method In order to test this theory out I first think it s important
to define what sociable means. Sociable can be taken in different ways so i would
like to clarify specifically for this experiment. Socialization is the process by which
a living organism is changed into a person and a social human being. It is with the
help of this process that
Title 10 Integration
The efficient integration of Title 10 and National Guard forces during domestic
operations increases the threshold of a state s capacity to respond to disasters or
security requirements. Pre event preparation is required to achieve efficient
integration. This preparation requires three critical elements, building relationships,
integrated planning and exercises. To successfully incorporate federal forces during a
response, states must develop positive relationships with key Title 10 partners during
steady stateoperations. Building upon these relationships, stateand federal partners
conduct deliberate planning for the integration of Title 10 forces in a state response.
Finally, exercises validate plans and grow relationships. This paper describes... Show

There are several large exercises simulating combined state and federal responses such
as Vigilant Guard and Ardent Sentry. Lessons learned from the Hurricane Sandy
response indicate the importance of exercises simulating a DSC response. These
events provide critical training, however, they are resource intensive. Additionally,
they are cyclical with the opportunity to participate only every few years. To augment
large formal exercises, many states now conduct annual Title 10 synchronization
meetings. In the Alabama version of this event, the DCO, DCE, Deputy DSC, JEC,
state based Title 10 installations and JFHQ representatives give formal information
briefs on their functions. The event then transitions into a hurricane scenario table top
exercise to ensure all the participants understand the expectations during a DSC led
response. This interaction between the state and Title 10 participants is critical.
Additionally, the interaction between the Title 10 participants, which normally do not
work together, greatly enhances the shared understanding of effective state federal
integration. Regardless of the scale of the exercise, conducting exercises together
with state and Title 10 partners validates existing plans and strengthens

Socialization is the process by which someone becomes human . This is a process
where people acquire essential behaviors to adequately participate in society.
People become human , there are no in bred or innate instincts to guide
development. Sociological concepts in this field include, ferals and isolates,
marasmus, Looking Glass Self, Game and Play Stages as well as the
dramaturgical approach. These theories have contributed to the foundations of
socialization. George Herbert Mead developed the Game and Play Stages theory,
according to Mead, children pass through three stages while developing a sense of

three years old. In this stage children interact by means of imitation. According to
the website, The Concept of Play and Child Development. They learn to employ
gestures, objects, and eventually words and other symbols to communicate and
interact with significant others. The next stage is the Play stage this includes
children that are three to five years old. Children learn self development and
interaction through play in this stage. This stage is critical because the children
learn to behave in a certain way through role play only when they have had similar
experiences such as going to school, going to the doctor for medical checkup or to
the dentist or to learn more about how the world works. Playing helps children to
develop a sense of what s appropriate and expected. Game
The Income Statements, Balance Sheet, And Statement Of...
Income Statements Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows
Financial statements are very important for decision makers in the business world.
They inform the firm s owners, lenders and managers of the performance of the
company and their employees. Standardized financial statements make for financial
transparency between all businesses and sectors of business. Financial statements are
important to companies not only to measure performance but to obtain capital
through debt and equity. The main financial statements used by all companies,
private and public, are the balance sheet, income statement (profit and loss statement),
and statement of cash flows. Companies also use financial ratios to determine if they
are performing to standards and are determine if they are increasing revenues
sufficiently with the amount of expenses and debt taken on.
Income Statement
The income statement measures the flow of business activity by comparing
revenues to the expenses over a period of time, as opposed to the momentary status
of the business at a point in time (Brian P. Brinig, 2011). The income statement is
important because it lists the amount of expenses that were incurred to create the
revenues of the company. The biggest typical expenses for a company are the cost of
goods sold, advertising and promotion, depreciation, wages and salaries, and rent.
Balance Sheet
A balance sheet lists assets, liabilities and equity of a business at a single point in
Earnings Of JP Morgan Chase And Sagicor
Earnings
Evaluating earnings is very important as it gives an idea of the bank s ability to
maximize revenue and control expenses, and allows a bank to fund growth, cover
losses, maintain adequate capital levels and pay dividends. It also represents the
quality of a bank s profitability and its competence to upkeep the quality of the
banks and the quality and source of its earnings. The quality of earnings refers to if
earnings can and will continue to support the needs of the banks and if they are
coming from core earning sources or non recurring events and are they sustainable.
Earnings of JP Morgan Chase and Sagicor is done over a four year period, starting
in 2011 and ending in 2014, as this is needed to understand the trend of changes
amongst the two companies. Ratios used to analyse the two companies earnings are:

It is calculated as Net Income divided by Total Assets. The Return on Assets for
both JP Morgan Chase and Sagicor oscillated over the four year period; however
the largest change was for Sagicor between 2012 and 2013, where the ROA
increased to 1.50% from 1.29%. It then slightly increased again in 2014 to
1.62%.This meant that management was efficiently utilizing Sagicor s asset base to
make a profit. JP Morgan Chase s and Sagicor s ROAs ranged from 0.74% to 0.9%
and 1.29% to 1.62% respectively, with both their peaks in 2012. The higher the
earnings ratio, the better it is for the potential earnings for the company in the future.
Both companies maintain a positive ROA ratio, which means they both have a
sustainable quality of earnings to which they are generated from recurring
Women In Medieval Time Period
The medieval britain time period was the start of the noticeability for women.
Women were beginning to rise in control in this time period. They were gaining
more respect and honor than previous time periods, whereas women were only
known to keep the house and children. However, women were also known for their
seductiveness in this time period. They also were more loved for their virtues
rather than their prettiness. Women in the medieval time period were being put in
more higher places and were being on more power. In the medieval time period
women were increasingly becoming more noticed as well as being put in high
places. Before the twelfth century there was no place for women to reign as
queens. Only after the death of a king did a queen hold the royal chair for but a
brief time until either a husband was suitable for the royal crown or a son who
was not old enough yet reached the appropriate age to rule in government with his
mother. However, there were three daughters of kings Alfonso VI of Castile,
Baldwin II of Jerusalem, and Henry I of England forced the problem of female
succession after failure of male heirs to be acknowledged. Urraca utilized full
authority instantly after Alfonso VI s death. She was unquestionably the ruler of the
royal chair in her own right for a time. Melisende never ruled the royal chair
completely on her own, however, her husband Count Fulk of Anjou was not formally
affiliated with her at first during the time of Baldwin II was still

The Conflict of Interest Inherit in Administrative Review
I.Introduction The Employee Retirement Income Security Act, better known as
ERISA, has been a major issue in healthcare litigation since its inception in 1974.
ERISA governs any claim centering on health insurance, disability insurance, or any
other employer provided benefits. ERISA affects many aspects of the American legal
system, from inter state commerce to bankruptcy, and particularly insurance and
healthcare law. ERISA contains clauses for both the procedure and substance of the
law and is often preemptive over state law. There is a great deal of misunderstanding
and confusion surrounding the application and coverage of ERISA, which has made

Thereafter, our case quickly became a question of whether the healthcare
administrator was precluded from denying coverage for breast reduction surgery,
when it had granted coverage for the same on three previous occasions. The U.S.
District Court held that the plan administrator was precluded from denying the claim,
when they had granted coverage in the exact same medical circumstances on three
previous occasions. This case is currently on appeal with the Eighth Circuit. The
issue that I found most compelling while researching ERISA procedure was the
administrative appeal process, and the standard of review to which the U.S. District
Court must adhere. The U.S. District Court was required to review a case on appeal,
after the exhaustion of administrative remedies, only for an abuse of discretion, so
long as discretion had been granted to a plan administrator within the plan. In our
suit, the health insurance policy did contain a clause that gave the administrator
discretion to interpret and review, therefore our burden of proof was to convince the
U.S. District Court judge that the administrator had abused his discretion and denied
coverage beyond what the administer believed were the policy

The Role Of the Castrati in the Baroque Era
The Role Of the Castrati in the Baroque Era
When it comes to music history, the Castrati are one of the most important and
debated topics. The Castrati were men (in Italian opera) that had been castrated
during puberty to stop a flow of hormones, causing them to have the voice of a
soprano woman, but the vocal power of an older, full grown man. A general estimate
said that four thousand boys a year were castrated in Italy. Some Castrati tried to
make it in church choirs (which often gave them almost nothing of monetary value),
most chose the opera route. They reigned supreme when they got onstage, being the
obvious star of the show. They were the master performers that drew the crowd in
with their amazing voices. During the Baroque ... Show more content on

Even though he was a soprano, he also had an amazingly clear lower register,
where a tenor would most likely be comfortable. Farinelli showed off all the
sweetness of his voice wherever he traveled and was rewarded with roars of
applause. During this period of time, he did no wrong. He was famous beyond
belief, a formidable performer, and had honors upon honors. One of his most
famous performances involved him having a duet with a trumpet that turned into a
duel. Porpora, who was his teacher, spoke about the event: During the run of an
opera there was a struggle every night between Farinelli and a famous player on the
trumpet [...] After severally swelling a note in which each manifested the power of
his lungs and tried to rival the other in brilliancy and force, they had both a swell and
shake together, by thirds, which was continued so long [...] that both seemed
exhausted; and, in fact, the trumpeter, wholly spent, gave it up, thinking, however,
his antagonist as much tired as himself [...]; when Farinelli, with a smile on his
countenance, showing that he had only been sporting with him all that time, broke
out all at once in the same breath, with fresh vigor, and not only swelled and shook
the note, but ran the most rapid and difficult divisions and was at last silenced only
by the acclamations of the audience. From this period may be dated the superiority
which he ever maintained over all his contemporaries.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of DSLR
Introduction:
DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras have redefined motion picture
photography. Today they offer more than what we ever thought off. Technological
revolutions have swept the world like never before and today, a camera stands for
more than just a tool to capture family functions. Who knew that major feature films
and television shows would eventually start shooting with cameras that primarily
marketed for consumers and prosumers?
The movie mode of a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is a revolutionary

There is nothing like an all purpose lens. Each lens is suitable for a particular purpose.
Each lens has some pro and cons.
Different lenses render how we perceive the subject and setting descriptively,
emotionally and aesthetically. Different lenses give the freedom of choosing the
angle of view according to the subject and are measured by the focal length. Focal
length of a DSLR camera is the distance between the optical centre of a lens to the
imaging sensor when the lens is focused at infinity.
The two main choices of a film maker while choosing lens is either a prime lens
(lens with a fixed focal length) or a zoom lens (lens with a variable focal length).
For narrative film making prime lenses are best. Prime lenses are faster as
compared to zoom lenses. Fast refers to the maximum opening (aperture) of the
lens. Fast lenses (such as f/1.4 or f/1.8) allow shooting in low lighting conditions.
Fast lenses allow capturing footage with a dramatically shallow depth of field. It
gives more visual versatility. Prime lenses have fewer lens elements and give good
sharp images in comparison to zoom lenses. For documentaries zoom lenses are
better for their flexibility in creating
Star Life Cycle

collapse while rising in temperature, which causes the core to heat up rapidly

ending toward the end of their red giant phase. The star begins to pulsate releasing
its outer layers resulting in solar winds, as these layers begin to drift away only the

Massive stars come to an end much differently, after the high mass star runs out of

The Renaissance Of The Twelfth Century
The renaissance of the twelfth century was a revival of cultural and intellectual
activity from 1050 to 1250. Guibert of Nogent s autobiography, A Monk s
Confession: The Memoirs of Guibert of Nogent, and the prologue of Peter Abelard
s Sic et Non ( Yes and No ) are both products of this time period, having been written
in 1115 and 1122, respectively. While Abelard s text primarily focuses on applying
reason to religious matters a very renaissance thing to do Guibert sheds light on a
greater variety of affairs. Both documents indicate the strong faith that one would
expect to find in people during this era of religious enthusiasm. Together, the
documents paint an informative picture of the intellectual activity and culture of
their times. Guibert of Nogent was a French monk, who had been born in 1055
and died circa 1125. There had been complications during his birth, which made his
family fear for both his life and his mother s. Desperate, his family rushed to their
chapel where they, vowed to the Virgin Mary that, as Guibert puts it, if the child
were male, it would be consecrated a cleric in Gods service and hers. Naturally, this
vow dictated much of Guibert s life and molded him into a genuinely religious man.
Guibert wrote his autobiography at the monastery of Nogent in 1115, when he was
sixty years old, under the title of Monodiae, meaning Solitary Songs. The
autobiography genre was practically nonexistent at this time, so Guibert modeled his
text after the most
Perspectives On The Psychological Process Of Learning
Perspectives in Learning
There are a number of contemporary theoretical perspectives that surround the
psychological process of learning. Over the years these perspectives have been
examined and analyzed in the hopes of discovering the process that is most effective
for the process of learning. Three of the top theoretical perspectives: Constructivist
/cognitivist theory, Phenomenographic/Variation theory and Socio Cultural theory are
all theories that have been proven to be powerful processes in the field of learning.
Although these perspectives are different in theory, they all focus on the context,
meaning and experiences of learning, while having similar beliefs regarding the
active role of the learner and the influence of their environment. In this paper, the
discussion of Constructivist Cognitivism, Phenomenography and Socio cultural
perspectives lend an understanding to the complexities of these theories and identify
the key elements that make them unique. The first section of this paper will describe
and discuss the key elements and characteristics of each theory that makes them
distinct. Examining these three theories will show both similarities and differences in
the areas of context, meaning and experience. The second section of this paper will
discuss the commonalities amongst the three perspectives by presenting a case study
of one specific pedagogical aim, taught through each perspective. As the theories have
similarities in the role experiences play, we will

Abstract
This paper examines three models of learning styles including Kolb Experiential
Learning Model, the VARK model, and the Honey and Mumford model. While the
research on these three learning style models details both strengths and weaknesses,
an alternative is suggested and explored in this paper. The methods by which each
model is measured are also explained in this paper; they include the Learning Styles
Inventory (LSI) and the Learning Styles Questionairre (LSQ) and correlate to the
Kolb model and the Honey and Mumford model. Using the information discovered
concerning the research of learning styles, the relevance and use of the models is
then examined in the context of the field of training and development. This paper
uses Pashler s (2008) findings to suggest that learning styles should not be the basis
for training and development but rather a tool to gain awareness for organizations to
better develop employees for situations that could arise. Keywords: Learning Styles

Inside J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit
The Hobbit is an extravagant novel that tells the heroic story of the Bilbo Baggins.
Although this fictional novel is a fun and intense adventure story, the author s
themes are directed towards everyday life. Some of the themes that this novel
entails are, the calling of becoming a hero, the trails that shape a person s character,
and the helpers in a person s life that shape a person to be able to reach their full
potential. J.R.R. Tolkien uses this novel to express these everyday themes.
The calling of a hero is one of themes that Tolkien expresses through the character
Bilbo Baggins. A hero is directly defined as a person who is admired for great or
brave acts of fine qualities. Fine qualities can consist of things such as strength,
athletic ability, and also things like knowledge and people skills. Everyone has the
ability to be a hero. The author wants to send the message that heroes can be made
out of anyone. Becoming a hero isn t about having skills and abilities, it s about
answering the call for a hero and using those things to impact the people around
them. Tolkien created Bilbo to be a hobbitthat keeps to himself inside of his home.
Bilbo s qualities were brevity and intelligence. Bilbo always has had the abilities to
become a hero, but answering the call and taking the actions to be a hero was what
set Bilbo apart from other hobbits. An up stander is hero everyday. Everyone has the
ability to be brave enough to be an up stander no matter what class, race or

Kosinski s Being There and the Existential Anti Hero
Critics have referred to Kosinski s Being There as his worst novel. Perhaps,
Kosinski s prosaic style is deceptive in its apparent simplicity (especially when
contrasted with The Painted Bird). What Kosinski seeks to do, as Welch D. Everman
relates, is to stimulate the reader s recreative and imaginative task by offering only
the essentials...Kosinski s style draws the reader into the incident by refusing to
allow him to remain passive (25). This essay will propose that Being There is a
major existential work following in the tradition of Sartre and Camus in which Chance
, the main protagonist, mirrors Camus s Mersault in A Happy Death and in which
Koskinski demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chance has been given his name because he had been born by chance , yet as
Everman shows, this is true of everyone, and so his given name is hardly a name at
all....In addition, he loses this rather tenuous name early in the book... and therefore
is without a real name (63).
Furthermore, no one in the book exists without some type of tangible record proving
existence. When Mr. Franklin, the Old Man s executor, interrogates Chance, he
seeks commodified proof of Chance s existence; he asks for, among other items, a
checkbook, driver s license, insurance card, tax forms. Chance, encountering the
existential dilemma, the quest for identity, counters: you have me. I am here. What
more proof do you need (18)? Of course, mere existence proves useless and Chance
is excommunicated from his beloved garden. Why does a writer who displays such
brilliant technical skills and prosaic style resort to utilizing such a one dimensional
character? Perhaps Koskinski has simply found the next logical step in the chain of
psychological evolution. Yet, rather than the natural heir to Benji Compson, Chance
is, instead, the natural descendent of Patrice Mersault.
After Nietzsche declared God dead, we spent the next half century in an angst ridden
frenzy. Sartre, Beckett, and Camus best exemplify this condition in their writings.

of racism, oppression, gentrification, and deportation filled the classroom with the
voices of varied languages and vernaculars, a majority of which felt caught between

racial, linguistic or ethnic lines. This conflict of self is not isolated to this classroom

Reflective Essay On Meditation
Meditation is a state of consciousness without focus on the world around you. The
goal of meditation varies for each individual, but it is typically done to achieve a
sense of calm, reduce anxiety, become self aware, and gain a broader sense of
perspective. There are various activities that are meditative and can deliver the mind
clearing sensation, but I chose the traditional form of seated meditation. When I chose
meditation as my personal life change, I had no desired outcome. I simply chose
meditation because of my interest in Buddhism, and maybe even the opportunity
to one of those pretentious people who brag about how spiritually whole they are.
Meditation can be done anywhere as long as you re in a comfortable, seated
position. However, I found that there are other contributing factors to a successful
meditation. After my first attempt meditating, I came to the realization that it is
much simpler to clear your mind in certain locations. I began meditating in the
comfort of my home alongside a scented candle, but I noticed quite quickly that it
is a lot easier to reduce stress when you aren t able to hear the sources of your stress
parading around in the kitchen. After moving my meditation location to a hammock
in my backyard, I was able to focus on my breath, the delicate inhalations and
powerful exhalations, and the cool September air that cooled my body, as opposed to
what was assigned in Chemistry earlier that day. However, it seemed that every time

Introduction
In the presented essay I will compare the style of work of selected artists in the
montage of the film. I will try to point out some general regularities and features of
Soviet cinema. At the same time I will try to capture especially what is common in
their systems and similar or conversely what differ. For my analysis, I will draw on
the feature films of the Soviet avantgarde, namely these are the movies The
Battleship Potemkin (S. Eisenstein, 1925), Mother (V. Pudovkin, 1926) and The Man
with a movie camera (D. Vertov, 1929).

However his films are softer and more lyrical as Eisenstein, heroes are individualized
and becomes an important element of narrative. Right from the start Pudovkin went
his innovator s way and element of montage used to express continuity, not as

Pudovkin is dubbed as singer in the movie especially for the predominance of
emotional elements of intellectual. This doesn t mean that his revolutionary epopees
are important only in terms of itself topics. In his work wasn t overlooking the central
idea that the montage is the essence of aesthetics of film.
Different connections of contrasts (that were typical of the Eisenstein) by Pudovkin
appear rarely. Instead of these contrasts he used montage of analogies. For example,
a second shot rarely used for intensifying an impression from a first image. On the
contrary, a director s effort is visible when a main story line he tried to enrich it with
new elements.
Mutually connected and unrelated images of outside the design concepts of director
served to reveal to inner state of the hero, as for example in the figure of the Mother.
Eisenstein s opinion was inclined to intellectual film, which lacked a fabulation and
the main character. Pudovkin understood a film as a relationship to the narrative.
Montage of the film Mother radiates peacefully from the story, from a particular
environment, from the heroes and it reaches metaphorical dimension. As we can see

Relationship Between Odysseus And Telemachus
Great Expectations
A great number of classical literature portrays a relationship between a father and
son that appears quite distinct compared to relationships in today s society. Mothers
are known to be more emotional and soft, whereas fathers are more stoic and stern.
Fathers hardly have physical interactions with their son s, in fact, they do not express
much emotions like a mother would. Homer s epic poems The Iliad and The Odyssey
have emerged from a patriarchal society, where fathers held the dominant role in a
family. However, these books show that father and son relationships are shown to
have a special bond that is formed through respect and honor. Both poems cover
many fathers and son s relationships, however, I will be ... Show more content on

As a king, he had accomplished much during his reign, including guiding troy through
the last ten years of the Trojan War. Priam also showed his compassion and grace
through his treatment towards Helen, despite her being the reason for the Trojan
War. Moreover, as a father, Priam makes great efforts to teach Hector the heroic
ways and foster in his son the very things that brought him honor and glory. He
shows great love and affection towards his oldest living son Hector, and he
expresses it from a father s point of view rather than that of a king. Hector being
the greatest warrior and the commander of the Trojan army, has great pride in his
father s accomplishments. He seeks to emulate Priam by his actions on the
battlefield and the way he conducts himself as a warrior. As a son, he has a great
desire to show himself capable of being the man his father expects him to be.
Together the pair shows a very strong and admirable father and son relationship. As

Hector to forgo his heroic duty and not fight Achilles. Having lost many sons, Priam
discards his role as a king and speaks only as a father afraid of losing his oldest son.

The Great Gatsby Idealised Love
A significantly powerful emotion, love, possessing the ability to transform a live to
the greatest but also destroy. The concepts of idealised love have been expressed in
texts throughout history, and each is relevant to their specific periods and specific
value systems. This can be seen in both, Elizabeth Barrett Browning s (EBB) poetry
Sonnets from the Portuguese, 1845 and F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel The Great Gatsby ,
1925 which explore in depth the similar perspectives of ideal love, although the
context that surrounds each text reshapes the composer s viewpoint. Barrett
Browning explores a romantic vision of love and enhances our perception of this

In the roaring 20 s, America was referred to as the Jazz Age , a positive and
optimistic time where possibilities seemed endless. The concept in EBB s sonnet
of ideal love transforming individuals is similarly interpreted through the
characterisation of Gatz into Gatsby. The obsessive love to own Daisy highlights
the idea that this power of love can only exist in the Jazz Age. Gatsby s idealised
love is derived from the traps of wealth and money which is clearly evident in the
dialogue her voice is full of money . Gatsby s is willing to reinvent himself for
Daisy and he consumes everything he does in life to make himself worthy of
Daisy so they can marry as if it were five years ago. Nick the novel s narrator, tells
Gatsby that you can t repeat the past to which Gatsby replies why of course you
can! I m going to fix everything just the way it was before . This evidently shows
that the power of ideal love which is genuine and unconditional is very strong on
individual s and transforms them into a whole new world with new values. Gatsby
s determination to make everything right evidently depicts how the concept of
ideal love had transformed him to attain his ideal love, Daisy. Hence, Fitzgerald
conveys his perspective of ideal love during the Jazz Age, and similar to EBB, ideal
love is seen to transform individual s and demanding for love to

TO WHAT EXTENT WAS THERE A MID TUDOR CRISIS DURING THE
REIGNS OF EDWARD VI AND MARY I? The mid Tudor crisis is a term often
used by historians to describe the reigns of Edward VI (1547 1553) and Mary I
(1553 1558). This period can be seen as a crisis, due to the fact that there were so
many problems financially, socially, religiously and constitutionally, which led to
rebellions, and placed the country in a very unstable position. It is clear that many
of the origins of this crisis have their roots in the reign of Henry VIII. He left a very
difficult legacy to his successors, but it must be remembered that Somerset provoked
the problems already in existence and Northumberland and Mary I then had the

Northumberland also established the Privy Coffer to provide contingency funds.
Mary herself reformed the customs and introduced the book of rates in 1558.
There was also, as Guy perceives a shift towards national finance . Although the

some productive reforms and that the situation did not decline. Historians such as
Pollard who see government as sterile, impotent and unproductive at this time do
not seem to have taken into account these positive financial developments. It is
evident that Henry was at the root of the financial problems and that Somerset
exacerbated them. However the positive achievements of Northumberland and
Mary must not be forgotten. Somerset lacked charm and made enemies easily. His
arrogance and pride created resentment. He was a weak administrator who refused
to listen to the experts. The crisis came for Somerset, in 1559 when he failed to
deal decisively with rebellions in the west and in Norfolk (which had been partly
caused by his own policies). As Dale Hoak points out his colleagues decided to get
rid of him at this point not because he supported the poor but because he was
incompetent . When Northumberland came into power, even though his reforms
were far more extreme, with no possibility of alternative
The Pros And Cons Of Comunissm
I chose question no 1.Comunissm is the financial and social framework in which
all (or almost all) property and assets are all things considered claimed by an
awkward society and not by individual subjects. Taking into account the 1848
distribution Socialist Manifesto by two German political rationalists, Karl Marx
(1818 1883) and his nearby partner Friedrich Engels (1820 1895), it conceived
regular responsibility for area and capital and shrinking without end of the coercive
influence of the state. In such a general public, social relations were to be managed
on the most attractive of all standards: from every as per his capacity, to every as
per his needs. Contrasts in the middle of manual and scholarly work and in the
middle of rustic and urban life were to vanish, opening up the route... Show more

In socialism, there are sure laws and objectives which focus asset and obligation
portion. In the event that the residents submit to these laws, this prompts a
concordant soul of sharing one objective. Subsequently, this fabricates more grounded
social groups and a much more grounded economy.
Rivalry doesn t exist. In socialist social orders, everybody can work amicably
without going on one another s toes. Work, obligation, and prizes are shared just as
among the residents. On the off chance that individuals have no feeling of jealousy,
desire or aspirations that counter the objectives of the state, then an amicable
financial advancement can be looked after .
Productive conveyance of assets. In a comrade society, the feeling of participation
takes into account productivity in asset dissemination. This is critical, particularly in
times of need and in crisis circumstance Pros of capitalism
Financial opportunity helps political flexibility. On the off chance that legislatures
claim the method for generation and set costs, it constantly prompts an effective state

Comparing Angela s Ashes And Huckleberry Finn
The importance of community and the charity of strangers is very prominent in
Angela s Ashes and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The way that strangers
treat them compared to how their own families act is a large difference. Strangers
tend to be more charitable and kind, but their families don t seem to care as much
about them. The way their families treat them in both stories is negative. In
Angela s Ashes Malachy and Angela are distant parents. Malachy drinks and doesn
t bring money home. In Frank s teenage years his father leaves for London one day
and never comes back. When Frank s little siblings die his mother closes herself off
and refuses to eat or drink or even get out of bed. Even Frank s grandparents, aunts
and uncles treat him and his siblings poorly. They are viewed as outsiders on his
mother s side for being from the north and on his father s side for being from the
south. Frank and his siblings are seen as outsiders in even their own families because
of who they are. Their own families seem to be their greatest critics.... Show more

One night his father breaks into his room at the Widow s house and insults Huck
repeatedly. He bullies Huck for looking nice and learning how to read. Huck s
father Pap uses Huck s supposed wealth as an excuse to take his son back. Pap
takes advantage of his son Huck by taking him back into his care to receive the
money belonging to Huck. All Pap seems to care about is the money he could
receive. When Pap takes Huck to his cabin Huck is physically abused. At one point
Pap chases Huck around threatening to kill him. Huck lives in constant fear of his
father and his father s drinking because of the violent way he s treated by his only

Disparate Faith Traditions
The various differences of doctrine and dogma between faith traditions are often a
stumbling block for non believers, causing them to wonder how it can be said that
any one religion has is correct if there are such a plethora of them. This essay has
hopefully alleviated that stumbling block to some degree, although no written work
will ever have the capacity to remove it entirely. It has been shown that despite the
immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions,
there is a surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice.
While Catholics believe in a supremely good, powerful, and knowledgeable God,
Buddhists have varying beliefs about divinity. While Buddhists firmly assert that
there is no real, inner self within each individual, Catholics believe in an... Show

This essay is far from exhaustive in the realm of shared practices between the faiths.
If this inexplicable agreement is not enough to reassure those who are experiencing
doubt that there must be some underlying truth that has led these disparate faith
traditions to such similar conclusions about practice, then there is nothing that will
reassure such doubt. In addition to those doubting that there can be any discernable
or trustworthy truth found in religions, this notable set of points of agreement should
serve to reassure the adherents of both faith traditions. Just as in common speech it is
reassuring to hear that someone agrees with you after they have put significant
thought into the topic at hand, it should be reassuring to Catholics and Buddhists to
know that each faith tradition supports at least some considerable number of the
other tradition s
Meaning Of The Sandman
The Sandman The Sandman is a mythical character whose purpose is to lull
children to sleep and give them sweet dreams, by sprinkling magical sand into their
eyes. If children fought the effects of his magical sand, they would have torturous
nightmares. The folklore says that the sleep in the corner of the eyes is a proof that
The Sandman was there during the night. The text Verse 1 Say your prayers little

free from sin Til the sandman he comes The song starts with a parent putting their son
to bed, persisting the child to say their prayers before they go to bed. The parent tucks
his son into bed to keep him warm during the cold night, which is associated with sin.
Children see duvets and blankets as a shield to protect them from anything that can
happen throughout the night. Although the last line can seem disturbing The
Sandman is someone who brings good dreams. But the child may misunderstand this

The prayer was meant to help kids calm down with fear, and trust that God will
protect them through the night. Hush, Little Baby is a lullaby thought to have been
written in the Southern United States. The lullaby is traditional too real to soothe
an anxious or crying child. In this version, it s uncertain whether it s The Sandman
or the parent who is singing. Whereas the first line follows the traditional lullaby,
the following lines hints to a boogeyman or something to be afraid of. This could be
child s way of twisting his parent s words. Chorus 2 Exit light Enter night Grain of

sprinkling his magical sand into the children s eyes. The music
The Scopes Trial Induced A Pivotal Point
The Scopes Trial induced a pivotal point in American history because it symbolizes
the conflict between science and theology, faith and reason, individual liberty, and
majority rule. This trial was to decide not only the fate of an evolution teacher, but
also to decide if traditionalists or modernists would rule American culture. An object
of intense publicity, the trial was seen as a clash between urban sophistication and
rural fundamentalism.
On January 20, 1925, a Tennessee state senator named John A. Shelton proposed a
bill to make the teaching of evolution in the state s public schools a felony, or a
criminal act. Fundamentalists had been supporting and pushing the passage of laws
such as this for years, because the teaching of evolution and Darwinism contradicts
the religious beliefs of creation in Christianity. Popular evangelist, Billy Sunday,
undertook an eighteen day crusade in Memphis in support of the prospective bill.
Night after night, Sunday s audiences grew until more than two hundred thousand
people heard him preach against the evils of evolution. The bill, known as the Butler
Act, was officially passed on March 21, 1925, just 3 months after its proposal. Just as
state legislators suspected, the ink had hardly dried on the Butler Act before its first
challenger emerged.
George Rappleyea, a modernist methodist who was against the new regulation, urged
people to rebel against the law in order to generate publicity for the city of Dayton.

Three Interviews Essay
Family values can be described as a set of beliefs or morals that help provide for
family unity and social interaction as well as providing for a societal view for
childhood development (Dictionary.com). Over the weekend, I interviewed a gang of
three great generations while discovering what family values mean to each of them.
From these interviews, I was able to distinguish each of their own perspectives. Each
interviewwas like a puzzle. I put each of their answers to together and found what
makes familyvalues so important. The main argument of my interviews is that family
values are crucial. They help shape and build our character.
As stated by my mother, Debra Franckowiak, Family values are like building blocks
of a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A family that supports each other and nourishes one another is going to survive
because of the healthy environment they have created (Heather Forrester). As my
next question, I asked my interviewees if they considered divorces or families
living with a homosexual ruined a family s values. It was conclusive that all three of
them thought that broken families or homosexuals did not damage their family
values. I think a family with high morals, honesty, and togetherness always stay
together, regardless if they all have different personalities (Ruth Franckowiak). She
explained to me that as a community, we should be blamed for our inability to
accept others. Our negative attitudes and criticism stereotype these groups as
necessarily being wrong, but you can t help yourself by hurting other people (Debra
Franckowiak). Heather added to the argument, by stating that The nation has been
built on the acceptance of everyone in our society. How are we acting like a nation,
if we cannot act civilized and unified toward each other? (Heather Forrester). As my
last question, I left my interviewees with a final thought by asking them what family
values they live by. This helped me understand what family values they found to be
most important. What I noticed was that their answers varied. Debra said that she
lives by the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments provide a moral code for
Conflict Theory In Social Work Practice
While there are multiple theoretical perspectives that help individuals understand
society and inform social work practice, a crucial perspective that has formed is the
conflict perspective. According to Hutchinson, the conflict perspective takes an
approach to human behavior that draws attention to conflict, dominance and
oppression in social life as a result of the inequalities in the distribution of resources
(Hutchinson 2015) . Something to note within the conflict perspective is the fact that
conflict allows for growth and progress within work, but that doesn t necessarily
mean that conflict is always beneficial. Conflict theorypoints out the situations in
which conflict is beneficial and in which situations conflict is not acceptable.
According to the New World Encyclopedia, there are four assumptions on which
modern conflict theory is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Turner 2013) Conflict will have integrative effects on a society if the conflict is low
in violence but also occurs frequently. As well has having effects to the whole of
conflict, Simmel also believes that conflict can have integrative consequences,
including an increase in group boundaries, centralization of authority , and an
increase in group unity as a result of a decreased tolerance (Turner 2013).
Lewis Coser
Lewis Coser proposed a pluralistic theory of social conflict, which recognizes that
more than one social conflict is going on at all times and that individuals hold cross
cutting and overlapping memberships in status groups (Hutchinson 2015). Pulling
his ideas from Simmel, Coser saw that conflict was caused by the withdrawal of
legitimacy by subordinates in a system of inequality (Turner 2013). Unlike Simmel,
Coser saw the increases in conflict, especially when conflict is over nonrealistic
issues over an extended period of time. (Turner 2013)

Aeneas, The Titular Hero Of Virgil s Aeneid
Aeneas, the titular hero of Virgil s Aeneid, is the flawed Trojan hero sent on a
divine quest to found the new Troy and establish the basis for the Roman Empire.
Along this journey, he is pushed to his limits both mentally and physically. This
strain shows him to be a deeply Roman hero, especially in the values that come
forward in his actions and response to tragedy. He embodies two major Roman
values: pietas and respect for family, both past and future.
One of the most important values that Aeneas embodies is pietas. Pietas is a nigh
untranslatable word that means great devotion and piety, the two words Lombardo
uses most in his translation of the Aeneid to indicate this value. Randall Ganiban, in
his introduction to the Aeneid states that Aeneas is placed in such a difficult
position because of his pietas his duty towards his family, state, and the gods
(Ganiban, p.15). Aeneas struggles to balance his sense of duty towards all three and
the fact that despite his immortal parentage, he is simply a human man with the
weight of the world on his shoulders. He possesses an almost supernatural sense of
duty, which is why it is very strange that he finds some of his strongest opposition in
the form of the divine. Juno, queen of the gods, violently opposes Aeneas quest for
Rome. This is marked as strange by Virgil: That she forced a man of faultless
devotion / To endure so much hardship (Aen. 1.14 15, Lombardo). Aeneas is known
throughout the land for his

  • 1. Essays On Racial Profiling Crafting an essay on the subject of racial profiling is undeniably challenging, requiring a delicate balance of sensitivity, thorough research, and critical analysis. This topic delves into complex and often contentious issues surrounding discrimination, bias, and systemic inequalities. As a writer, navigating through the myriad of perspectives, historical contexts, and real-world examples demands a nuanced approach. One of the primary difficulties lies in presenting a comprehensive overview while avoiding oversimplification. Racial profiling is a multifaceted phenomenon with roots in social, cultural, and political dynamics. Addressing its various dimensions requires a deep understanding of historical events, legal frameworks, and the socio-economic factors that contribute to its persistence. Moreover, an essay on racial profiling necessitates a careful examination of the ethical implications involved. It requires the writer to critically engage with the moral dimensions of discriminatory practices and to convey these insights in a manner that promotes understanding rather than exacerbating tensions. Researching the topic can be emotionally taxing, as it involves confronting the stark realities of racial injustice. The writer must grapple with the harsh consequences of profiling on individuals and communities, all while maintaining objectivity and a commitment to fostering empathy and awareness. In addition, formulating solutions and advocating for change poses its own set of challenges. Constructing a compelling argument for reform and addressing the systemic issues at play requires a thorough exploration of policy implications, societal attitudes, and the potential resistance to change. In conclusion, tackling the task of writing an essay on racial profiling demands intellectual rigor, emotional resilience, and a commitment to justice. It is a journey that requires the writer to navigate through the complexities of a deeply ingrained societal issue, all while striving to contribute meaningfully to the discourse. For those seeking assistance in exploring such intricate topics or crafting compelling essays, various resources, including professional writing services, can provide valuable support. • 2. Importance Of Self Reflection Research has been increasingly done on learning and self reflect and its effectiveness, one of the first researchers john Dewey stated, we do not learn from experience... We learn from reflecting on experience. John believed that deep learning comes from array of experience, reflection, abstraction, and active testing. James Zull s (2002) fascinating book on the biology of learning, points out evidence that the learning cycles arises naturally from the structure of the brain. Donald Schon also amongst the first to write about reflective practice with his exploration of experience, interaction and reflection with his book the reflective practitioner in 1983, Donald defines reflective practice as the practice by which professionals become receptive of the implicit knowledge base and learn from their experience. The practitioners allowed Donald to experience puzzlement, surprise or confusion in a situation which is found uncertain or unique. Self reflection is like considering a mirror and describing what you see. The term refers to an activity or process in which an experience is recalled, considered and evaluated to gain insight on oneself, ones valued or knowledge gained. The ability to reflect on experience encourages insight and complex learning. In contrast, self reflection is a process used to study one s own performance in order to improve it. In order for one to succeed, it is vital to have knowledge of what each strengths and weaknesses are for self development

Discuss with special reference to the anti slavery activities of enslaved Africans. Ra Monne Darrell Gardiner 410004250 Caribbean Civilization Professor C. Curry University of the West Indies November 23rd, 2010 Where ever there was slavery, there was resistance (University of the West Indies 86). African born slaves revolted because Slaves born in Africa who conceived of resistance as all out war in African style to destroy the alien plantations or separate entirely from them (qtd in Knight 242). These slaves could still remember the freedom they once shared in their homeland and resisted in every way to regain that freedom. Many African slaves would attempt to regain that freedom by running away and forming Maroon communities. Upon arrival into the new world many slaves would run away as another attempt to escape slavery; initiating another transition in slave rebellion, from African dominated to maroonage. Maroonage was a powerful expression of slave resistance because it allowed slaves to enjoy the freedom they once had or longed to have. Running away from plantations was a frequent practice. It was often attempted when there was hope of great success such as the availability of mountainous areas or dense forests. This was common in Caribbean countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad, Cuba, Hispaniola and Dominica. While in the new world, slaves had a better opportunity to achieve freedom by escaping from plantations rather than waiting to be emancipated or to be regarded as free. Maroon communities were formed and grew rapidly. This caused the ratio of White to Black to become disproportionate and strength ruled in favour of the Africans. The enslaved commonly retreated to the mountains

Being both participative and delegative leader it only means that I can adjust to different situations, which I can strongly impose my decisions and at the same time recognize and value the opinion of others when circumstance calls for it. • 7. Essay Oedipus as Scapegoat in Oedipus the King Oedipus as Scapegoat in Oedipus the King The great psychologist philosopher Carl Jung was briefly a student of Freud. Because Jung felt that Freud s approach to psychoanalysis was by far too narrow, he broke off from his teachings, and made significant contributions to mythological criticism. Jung s greatest contribution was his theory of archetypes. His proposal of archetypes argues that there is one original pattern or model of all things of the same type. According to Jung, beneath the personal unconscious is a collective unconscious that is in the psychic inheritance of all humans. Jung thought of the collective unconscious as a sort of memory bank that stores images and ideas that humans have accumulated over the course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The archetype is further fulfilled by the sacrificial scapegoat being permitted to engage in sexual intercourse with a woman usually forbidden to him (Vickery 44). The scapegoat is a person blessed with special attributes courage, strength, dedication who is summoned by a calling which rouses him from the comfortable routines of his daily life and sets him on a road of adventure (Brunel 321). In some instances the herald that provokes the scapegoat to take action is an incident which unexpectedly disrupts his day to day existence. In response to the calling the scapegoat leaves his familiar surroundings and ventures out into a foreign world. This point within the scapegoat s quest is referred to as the crossing of the threshold because he is entering a region of mystery and danger (Brunel 321). Once the scapegoat has passed into the foreign world he immediately endures adventures, which often times involve his encounter with other archetypal figures (Brunel 322). Because the world that the scapegoat enters is so full of danger, he is often assisted in his adventure by various helpful beings. The hero, it is clear, needs all the help he can get on the Quest, for whatever leads him, his journey is always, in a sense, a voyage to hell, a descent into a nightmarish landscape where he must survive a series of ordeals (Brunel 323). The quest often leads the sacrificial scapegoat to self discovery, allowing him to examine the depths of his unexplored

  • 12. Storage Of The Packet Filtering Essay 1)According to Bergstra and Burgess (2007), static packet filers have a complex network layer. They only examine one packet at any given time. They also block SNY scans over the network. By only considering one packet at a given time, stateless packet filtering does not stop major attacks determined by knowing the position of the packet in a given stream of traffic. There is no context applied to the packet during transmission. For instance, stateless packet filtering cannot protect against denial of service (Do S) attack as it only examines the individual packets, instead of determining the connection state alongside the related and or unrelated packets. 2) Hinglaspure and Burghate (2014) indicates that since static filers do not preserve the results after examining the packets, they are unable to relate the current and already examined packets. By only examining some fields of the Internet and Transport headers, static packet filtering cannot stop the attacks using other packet portions. Hackers are able to fool static firewalls easily because they are not smart enough. For instance, the filters may not examine attacks that use data field of the application messages, making the system more disposed to to the external attack. 2)Application proxy severs safeguard the internal clients from some mischievous external servers. They force all client connections to pass through the proxy that in turn examines the application content of all packets during transmission.

Over the past years, the amount of data we create, communicate and store has grown exponentially. Big Data is already a big influence on our lives. Whether you contribute to the ever growing dataset of Facebook or your supermarket gives you discounts for items you never expected to need , Big Data is all around us and has an impact on all of us. Let us start by defining Big Data. Big Data is the term for datasets that are too big to process in traditional ways such as databases and simple analytics software. The size of big data is a moving target as storage and processing capacities grow. Because these datasets are so big (100 petabytes if you are Facebook for example) when working with them, you face a few challenges: storage space, searching, analysis, and... Big Data is a part of our life while we sometimes do not know it yet. Big Data is all around us, from creating our anniversary videos on Facebook and giving Netflix recommendations to utilizing all cellphones as weather stations to improve predictions (source 4) and combining it with machine learning for interesting insights. Companies with products relying heavily in internet are investing heavily in Big Data, companies such as Uber, Spotify, Google and IBM to name a

Describing Shylock of William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice When then Merchant of Venice was written, the religion in this country was Christianity. Anybody who was not of that religion was looked down upon, especially those who were Jews. They were treated despicably, so as the play starts and as Shylock is introduced as a Jew it is certain that he is going to be depicted as the lowest of the low, as being mercenary and sadistic. However, as the play progresses we see another side of Shylock, we see him as the victim of many years of Christian abuse, both verbal or physical, and we can see that his behaviour is understandable due to the persecution he has suffered. I think that Shylock is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We start to see another side to Shylock in this scene. He is about to have dinner with Antonio and Bassanio. He is telling his daughter, Jessica to look after his house. This shows Shylock to be slightly sadistic as he is keeping his daughter like a prisoner and won t let her enjoy the parade and its music as it passes their house. When Jessica runs away with the Christian, Lorenzo, taking Shylock s money with them, my dislike for Shylock is deepened. This is because he is more worried about losing his money than his daughter. He shouts, My daughter! O my ducats! O my ducats! Fled with a Christian! O my Christian ducats! This is a time when we should feel sympathy for Shylock but his sorrow of losing his ducats is far greater than his sorrow of losing his daughter, making me feel he is unloving and mercenary. However, once I start thinking that Shylock is an unloving, sadistic and mercenary villain, Shakespeare invokes sympathy for Shylock. As when Shylock says, I say my daughter is my flesh and my blood. We see that Shylock is upset about his daughter running away with a Christian. He sees this as the greatest sin against him. He is also very bitter but Solanio and Salario just makes fun of him. Once again, we can see why Shylock is so intent on revenge and why he behaves like he does. I think he is almost justified in his actions as the Christians constantly abuse
  • 15. The Spanish American War of 1898 Essay The Spanish American War of 1898 One hundred years ago, in 1898, the United States was fighting the Spanish American War. The victory over Spain made the United States a colonial power. The Spanish colonies of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines, as well as the formerly independent nation of Hawaii, became American possessions. The excuse for entering the war was the rebellion by the Cubans against Spanish rule and the explosion of an American battleship U.S.S. Maine. The Spanish colonies in mainland North and South America became independent in the early 1800s, but Cuba and Puerto Rico remained Spanish. Many Americans in the U.S. sympathized with Cuba, which began in 1895, and also, maybe more importantly, U.S. citizens... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before dawn on May 1, 1898, Commodore George Dewey s flagship Olympia led seven U.S. Navy cruisers and gunboats into Manila Bay. By 8 AM that morning Dewey s squadron had located and destroyed virtually the entire Spanish naval forces in the Philippines. Damage to the American ships was very little, and their crews suffered no fatalities and few injuries. The Battle of Manila Bay was a singular demonstration of the daring and decisive application of sea power. In a few hours, Dewey had eliminated any threat that the Spanish Navy might pose to U.S. Far Eastern commerce and placed Spain s centuries long rule of the Philippines in great jeopardy. A few days later, with the capture of Cavite arsenal, he also gained a repair and refueling base, essential for maintaining his squadron under wartime conditions thousands of miles from home. On May 15, Theodore Roosevelt began training the famous Rough Riders for battles in Cuba, which brought him the fame that made him vice president in 1901 and then president on September 13 . In Washington, President McKinley received the news of the great battle. However, the battle of Manila did not end the war. 100 miles off the US coast is where Spanish held Cuba, by a substantial army, and hostile to American interests there. No naval force could impose on Cuba, and in order to force the Spanish out, a full scale invasion would have to be mounted. In 1897, Theodore

People could finally communicate with each other on the phone without actually having to see the person. The invention was great and really expanded the world with the telephone. Humans love to socialize. Before the telephone was invented people had to get up and actually physically talk to the person. However, as time went on phones have expanded. Home phones led to cell phones and now we have all the iphones. Are we getting more sociable with the resource we have in the cell phone? Not just the physical aspect of the phone but all the things that apply on the phone such as all the social media apps like twitter, facebook, and instagram that are all accessible on the phone. The research study that i want to analyze is does the modern day cell phone make people less physically social. Method In order to test this theory out I first think it s important to define what sociable means. Sociable can be taken in different ways so i would like to clarify specifically for this experiment. Socialization is the process by which a living organism is changed into a person and a social human being. It is with the help of this process that

Sociological concepts in this field include, ferals and isolates, marasmus, Looking Glass Self, Game and Play Stages as well as the dramaturgical approach. These theories have contributed to the foundations of socialization. George Herbert Mead developed the Game and Play Stages theory, according to Mead, children pass through three stages while developing a sense of selfhood. The three stages are the Preparatory stage, this is children from birth to three years old. In this stage children interact by means of imitation. According to the website, The Concept of Play and Child Development. They learn to employ gestures, objects, and eventually words and other symbols to communicate and interact with significant others. The next stage is the Play stage this includes children that are three to five years old. Children learn self development and interaction through play in this stage. This stage is critical because the children learn to behave in a certain way through role play only when they have had similar experiences such as going to school, going to the doctor for medical checkup or to the dentist or to learn more about how the world works. Playing helps children to develop a sense of what s appropriate and expected. Game

Although this fictional novel is a fun and intense adventure story, the author s themes are directed towards everyday life. Some of the themes that this novel entails are, the calling of becoming a hero, the trails that shape a person s character, and the helpers in a person s life that shape a person to be able to reach their full potential. J.R.R. Tolkien uses this novel to express these everyday themes. The calling of a hero is one of themes that Tolkien expresses through the character Bilbo Baggins. A hero is directly defined as a person who is admired for great or brave acts of fine qualities. Fine qualities can consist of things such as strength, athletic ability, and also things like knowledge and people skills. Everyone has the ability to be a hero. The author wants to send the message that heroes can be made out of anyone. Becoming a hero isn t about having skills and abilities, it s about answering the call for a hero and using those things to impact the people around them. Tolkien created Bilbo to be a hobbitthat keeps to himself inside of his home. Bilbo s qualities were brevity and intelligence. Furthermore, no one in the book exists without some type of tangible record proving existence. When Mr. Franklin, the Old Man s executor, interrogates Chance, he seeks commodified proof of Chance s existence; he asks for, among other items, a checkbook, driver s license, insurance card, tax forms. Chance, encountering the existential dilemma, the quest for identity, counters: you have me. I am here. What more proof do you need (18)? This can be seen in both, Elizabeth Barrett Browning s (EBB) poetry Sonnets from the Portuguese, 1845 and F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel The Great Gatsby , 1925 which explore in depth the similar perspectives of ideal love, although the context that surrounds each text reshapes the composer s viewpoint. Barrett Browning explores a romantic vision of love and enhances our perception of this interpersonal human emotion through a rebellion of the unbending principles of the Victorian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the roaring 20 s, America was referred to as the Jazz Age , a positive and optimistic time where possibilities seemed endless. The concept in EBB s sonnet of ideal love transforming individuals is similarly interpreted through the characterisation of Gatz into Gatsby. The obsessive love to own Daisy highlights the idea that this power of love can only exist in the Jazz Age. Gatsby s idealised love is derived from the traps of wealth and money which is clearly evident in the dialogue her voice is full of money . Gatsby s is willing to reinvent himself for Daisy and he consumes everything he does in life to make himself worthy of Daisy so they can marry as if it were five years ago. Nick the novel s narrator, tells Gatsby that you can t repeat the past to which Gatsby replies why of course you can! I m going to fix everything just the way it was before . This evidently shows that the power of ideal love which is genuine and unconditional is very strong on individual s and transforms them into a whole new world with new values. Gatsby s determination to make everything right evidently depicts how the concept of ideal love had transformed him to attain his ideal love, Daisy. Hence, Fitzgerald conveys his perspective of ideal love during the Jazz Age, and similar to EBB, ideal love is seen to transform individual s and demanding for love to

The mid Tudor crisis is a term often used by historians to describe the reigns of Edward VI (1547 1553) and Mary I (1553 1558). This period can be seen as a crisis, due to the fact that there were so many problems financially, socially, religiously and constitutionally, which led to rebellions, and placed the country in a very unstable position. It is clear that many of the origins of this crisis have their roots in the reign of Henry VIII. He left a very difficult legacy to his successors, but it must be remembered that Somerset provoked the problems already in existence and Northumberland and Mary I then had the difficult task of resolving them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Northumberland also established the Privy Coffer to provide contingency funds. Mary herself reformed the customs and introduced the book of rates in 1558. There was also, as Guy perceives a shift towards national finance . Although the period 1552 8 is still described as a crisis, it must be remembered that there were some productive reforms and that the situation did not decline. Historians such as Pollard who see government as sterile, impotent and unproductive at this time do not seem to have taken into account these positive financial developments. It is evident that Henry was at the root of the financial problems and that Somerset exacerbated them. However the positive achievements of Northumberland and Mary must not be forgotten. Somerset lacked charm and made enemies easily. His arrogance and pride created resentment. He was a weak administrator who refused to listen to the experts. The crisis came for Somerset, in 1559 when he failed to deal decisively with rebellions in the west and in Norfolk (which had been partly caused by his own policies). As Dale Hoak points out his colleagues decided to get rid of him at this point not because he supported the poor but because he was incompetent . When Northumberland came into power, even though his reforms were far more extreme, with no possibility of alternative

The Pros And Cons Of Comunissm I chose question no 1.Comunissm is the financial and social framework in which all (or almost all) property and assets are all things considered claimed by an awkward society and not by individual subjects. Taking into account the 1848 distribution Socialist Manifesto by two German political rationalists, Karl Marx (1818 1883) and his nearby partner Friedrich Engels (1820 1895), it conceived regular responsibility for area and capital and shrinking without end of the coercive influence of the state. In such a general public, social relations were to be managed on the most attractive of all standards: from every as per his capacity, to every as per his needs. • 43. Comparing Angela s Ashes And Huckleberry Finn The importance of community and the charity of strangers is very prominent in Angela s Ashes and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The way that strangers treat them compared to how their own families act is a large difference. Strangers tend to be more charitable and kind, but their families don t seem to care as much about them. The way their families treat them in both stories is negative. In Angela s Ashes Malachy and Angela are distant parents. Malachy drinks and doesn t bring money home. In Frank s teenage years his father leaves for London one day and never comes back. When Frank s little siblings die his mother closes herself off and refuses to eat or drink or even get out of bed. Even Frank s grandparents, aunts and uncles treat him and his siblings poorly. They are viewed as outsiders on his mother s side for being from the north and on his father s side for being from the south. • 44. Disparate Faith Traditions The various differences of doctrine and dogma between faith traditions are often a stumbling block for non believers, causing them to wonder how it can be said that any one religion has is correct if there are such a plethora of them. This essay has hopefully alleviated that stumbling block to some degree, although no written work will ever have the capacity to remove it entirely. It has been shown that despite the immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions, there is a surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice. While Catholics believe in a supremely good, powerful, and knowledgeable God, Buddhists have varying beliefs about divinity. While Buddhists firmly assert that there is no real, inner self within each individual, Catholics believe in an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay is far from exhaustive in the realm of shared practices between the faiths. If this inexplicable agreement is not enough to reassure those who are experiencing doubt that there must be some underlying truth that has led these disparate faith traditions to such similar conclusions about practice, then there is nothing that will reassure such doubt. In addition to those doubting that there can be any discernable or trustworthy truth found in religions, this notable set of points of agreement should serve to reassure the adherents of both faith traditions. Just as in common speech it is reassuring to hear that someone agrees with you after they have put significant thought into the topic at hand, it should be reassuring to Catholics and Buddhists to know that each faith tradition supports at least some considerable number of the other tradition s
  • 45. Meaning Of The Sandman The Sandman The Sandman is a mythical character whose purpose is to lull children to sleep and give them sweet dreams, by sprinkling magical sand into their eyes. If children fought the effects of his magical sand, they would have torturous nightmares. The folklore says that the sleep in the corner of the eyes is a proof that The Sandman was there during the night. The text Verse 1 Say your prayers little one Don t forget my son To include everyone I tuck you in, warm within Keep you free from sin Til the sandman he comes The song starts with a parent putting their son to bed, persisting the child to say their prayers before they go to bed. The parent tucks his son into bed to keep him warm during the cold night, which is associated with sin. Children see duvets and blankets as a shield to protect them from anything that can happen throughout the night. • 46. The Scopes Trial Induced A Pivotal Point The Scopes Trial induced a pivotal point in American history because it symbolizes the conflict between science and theology, faith and reason, individual liberty, and majority rule. This trial was to decide not only the fate of an evolution teacher, but also to decide if traditionalists or modernists would rule American culture. An object of intense publicity, the trial was seen as a clash between urban sophistication and rural fundamentalism. On January 20, 1925, a Tennessee state senator named John A. Shelton proposed a bill to make the teaching of evolution in the state s public schools a felony, or a criminal act. Fundamentalists had been supporting and pushing the passage of laws such as this for years, because the teaching of evolution and Darwinism contradicts the religious beliefs of creation in Christianity. Popular evangelist, Billy Sunday, undertook an eighteen day crusade in Memphis in support of the prospective bill. Night after night, Sunday s audiences grew until more than two hundred thousand people heard him preach against the evils of evolution. The bill, known as the Butler Act, was officially passed on March 21, 1925, just 3 months after its proposal. Just as state legislators suspected, the ink had hardly dried on the Butler Act before its first challenger emerged. George Rappleyea, a modernist methodist who was against the new regulation, urged people to rebel against the law in order to generate publicity for the city of Dayton. John Thomas
  • 47. Three Interviews Essay Family values can be described as a set of beliefs or morals that help provide for family unity and social interaction as well as providing for a societal view for childhood development (Dictionary.com). Over the weekend, I interviewed a gang of three great generations while discovering what family values mean to each of them. From these interviews, I was able to distinguish each of their own perspectives. Each interviewwas like a puzzle. I put each of their answers to together and found what makes familyvalues so important. The main argument of my interviews is that family values are crucial. They help shape and build our character. As stated by my mother, Debra Franckowiak, Family values are like building blocks of a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A family that supports each other and nourishes one another is going to survive because of the healthy environment they have created (Heather Forrester). As my next question, I asked my interviewees if they considered divorces or families living with a homosexual ruined a family s values. It was conclusive that all three of them thought that broken families or homosexuals did not damage their family values. I think a family with high morals, honesty, and togetherness always stay together, regardless if they all have different personalities (Ruth Franckowiak). She explained to me that as a community, we should be blamed for our inability to accept others. Our negative attitudes and criticism stereotype these groups as necessarily being wrong, but you can t help yourself by hurting other people (Debra Franckowiak). Heather added to the argument, by stating that The nation has been built on the acceptance of everyone in our society. How are we acting like a nation, if we cannot act civilized and unified toward each other? (Heather Forrester). As my last question, I left my interviewees with a final thought by asking them what family values they live by. This helped me understand what family values they found to be most important. What I noticed was that their answers varied. Debra said that she lives by the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments provide a moral code for
  • 48. Conflict Theory In Social Work Practice While there are multiple theoretical perspectives that help individuals understand society and inform social work practice, a crucial perspective that has formed is the conflict perspective. According to Hutchinson, the conflict perspective takes an approach to human behavior that draws attention to conflict, dominance and oppression in social life as a result of the inequalities in the distribution of resources (Hutchinson 2015) . Something to note within the conflict perspective is the fact that conflict allows for growth and progress within work, but that doesn t necessarily mean that conflict is always beneficial. Conflict theorypoints out the situations in which conflict is beneficial and in which situations conflict is not acceptable. (Turner 2013) Conflict will have integrative effects on a society if the conflict is low in violence but also occurs frequently. As well has having effects to the whole of conflict, Simmel also believes that conflict can have integrative consequences, including an increase in group boundaries, centralization of authority , and an increase in group unity as a result of a decreased tolerance (Turner 2013). Lewis Coser Lewis Coser proposed a pluralistic theory of social conflict, which recognizes that more than one social conflict is going on at all times and that individuals hold cross cutting and overlapping memberships in status groups (Hutchinson 2015). Pulling his ideas from Simmel, Coser saw that conflict was caused by the withdrawal of legitimacy by subordinates in a system of inequality (Turner 2013). Unlike Simmel, Coser saw the increases in conflict, especially when conflict is over nonrealistic issues over an extended period of time. (Turner 2013) Personal
  • 49. Aeneas, The Titular Hero Of Virgil s Aeneid Aeneas, the titular hero of Virgil s Aeneid, is the flawed Trojan hero sent on a divine quest to found the new Troy and establish the basis for the Roman Empire. Along this journey, he is pushed to his limits both mentally and physically. This strain shows him to be a deeply Roman hero, especially in the values that come forward in his actions and response to tragedy. He embodies two major Roman values: pietas and respect for family, both past and future. One of the most important values that Aeneas embodies is pietas. Pietas is a nigh untranslatable word that means great devotion and piety, the two words Lombardo uses most in his translation of the Aeneid to indicate this value. Randall Ganiban, in his introduction to the Aeneid states that Aeneas is placed in such a difficult position because of his pietas his duty towards his family, state, and the gods (Ganiban, p.15). Aeneas struggles to balance his sense of duty towards all three and the fact that despite his immortal parentage, he is simply a human man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He possesses an almost supernatural sense of duty, which is why it is very strange that he finds some of his strongest opposition in the form of the divine. Juno, queen of the gods, violently opposes Aeneas quest for Rome. This is marked as strange by Virgil: That she forced a man of faultless devotion / To endure so much hardship (Aen. 1.14 15, Lombardo). Aeneas is known throughout the land for his
