Improving Employee Retention At Tuality
The second pillar, destination healthcare employer, aims at recruiting high performers and
improving employee retention. The current rate of turnover at Tuality is high compared to other
Portland Metro counterparts and training is expensive. Other plans for retention include
providing a market competitive wage and benefits package. High visibility recognition will be
seen featured more in the coming years with the initiation of the President s Award and other
programs aimed at ensuring employees feel valued. Mr. Berman strongly feels that Tuality
employees are its most valued resource and it is apparent in his first years as the CEO that he
wishes to improve employee satisfaction. On the other side of high performers, however, low...

Currently, 79% of the workforce of 1320 employees are Caucasian and the other 21% can be
broken down into minority groups of 10% Latino, 7% Asian, 1% Black, and 3% Native American
/Pacific Islander (Ratliffe, February 2014). Current initiatives that Tuality has in the works for 2015
is to improve diversity of its workforce and, therefore, improve its service to the minority population
in the area. Based on the Community Health Needs Assessment Report, the population
configuration of whom Tuality serves averages roughly 25% Latino patients (Tuality Healthcare,
2014). To better serve those patients, Tuality must attract, hire and retain more minority employee
in direct patient care professions such as physicians and nurses that will reflect a better match to the
patient base.
The third pillar, community reputation for unparalleled value, is perhaps the largest hurdle to
overcome. It is hard to expect patients to use Tuality if they do not believe they will get good
value for their money and have positive health outcomes. Because of being a small organization,
Tuality has to work harder to achieve similar outcomes of patient satisfaction than its larger
Portland area counterparts. Tuality serves a smaller number of patients, and when mistakes happen
it increases the percentage of bad experiences for patients and lowers the HCAHPS scores. The

Tom Hanks recently received a Congressional Medal of Freedom from the United States President
Barack Obama. He was awarded for his outstanding work in the industry of film and acting.

Essay Analytic Response the Little Mermaid
Inside the Little Mermaid by:Brandie Tittsworth Jm0300776
When I young, I liked to pretended I was Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I hopelessly dreamt of
finding my prince charming. I sang and danced to the songs, and loved the thought of the castle in
the ocean, or a secret cave with items from shipwrecks. Watching the same story later in life with
my own children I can without a doubt say that Ariel could be a role model for not only me but my
daughter also in the way she stays true to who she is. Her character is one of open mindedness,
strength and abundant love. Throughout her story, Ariel is faced with opposition and obstacles that
force her to define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though surprised, Ariel resisted the temptation to fall in love and marry a merman, thus not giving
in to interpellation. This movie also shows aversions for interpellation in the sense that it conveys
the favorable reception of things, not ordinary. It says that you do not have to settle just for the
town quarterback, just because you are the head cheerleader. Instead, you can find someone who
your souls connect, and live happily ever after. When Ariel gets her voice back from the sea witch
but turns back into a mermaid, Eric isn t phased by her fin, he knows for sure that she is the one,
and he won t let her go again. By any means necessary. Ariel also questions the interpellated
messages she receives from the general public. The people of Ariel s kingdom believe that, as a
young woman, you should live up to specific social standards. Ariel breaks these traditions in
numerous ways. To begin, even as Ariel swims through the ocean the mer people talk about how
she is so peculiar; how she does not quite fit expectations. They cannot understand why she isn t
like her sisters. Why she doesn t quite fit in and obeys the King, her father, with her sisters who
try to find a husband, or sing and put on shows for their father and the locals. Instead, she is
distracted by the land people, she is always trying to explore the ocean and find items left behind by
humans. It is evident that Ariel is resisting interpellation by continuing to dream of

The Emotional vs. Intellectual Growth of Children in Hard...
In Hard Times, Charles Dickens explores the importance of the developments of both intellect and
emotions throughout a child s upbringing. However, to an extent, Dickens emphasizes on the
greater importance of emotional growth compared to intellectual growth; such as the much happier
and more compassionate human being Sissy is compared to Louisa and Tom, whom have had all
fancy rooted out of their childhood. Furthermore, although Bitzer may not be unhappy in any way,
he still lacks compassion and an understanding of emotions as a result of his education under
Gradgrind s fact only system. As such, the administrator of this system, Gradgrind, also lacks the
ability to recognise emotion, and hence was unable to acknowledge his children s... Show more

Even though she is aware of the reasons behind the way that she is, such is the impact that
Gradgrind s education on her that she has no means of comforting herself or repairing the
damages that she has endured. Consequently, it has demonstrated the degree to which the failure
of development of her emotions has affected Louisa and caused her young life to be filled with
misery. Nevertheless, if Louisa hadn t possessed her desire of emotions, the detrimental effects,
that she is aware of, would be lessened a great deal.
Bitzer undergoes the same figurative and factual education as Louisa and Tom, hence he too
lacks the ability to identify with emotions. On the contrary, Bitzer did not possess the inner fire
that Louisa had, and as a result did not feel that he had been repressed or miserable. He develops
into a cold and heartless human being and has no compassion whatsoever for anyone or anything.
Bitzer s heart is only accessible to reason and he feels no need to thank his educator, Gradgrind,
when is asked of him during Tom s escape. Furthermore, Bitzer notes that his schooling was paid
for and that when he graduated, the bargain ended . This emphasizes how in Bitzer s mind,
everything is determined upon figures and reason, and has no room for any sort of compassion. It is
through Bitzer that Dickens demonstrates how even though on may not feel as though they are
suffering from the lack of emotional growth, it is plain to

Globalization and Transfer Pricing Essay
Globalisation could be defined as the interactive co evolution of millions of technological,
cultural, economic, social and environmental trends at all conceivable spatiotemporal scales
(Rennen Martens 2003). When discussing globalisation, the topic transfer pricing always seem to
arise which could be because this multi nationals trade between themselves and the government
also uses transfer pricing. Therefore transfer pricing is used wold wide and could be said to be an
important accounting factor which enables the success of a firm due to the fact its set up to induce
optimal decision making in decentralized firms. Transfer pricing could be defined when a company

This method could be said to closely reflect the real economic contribution of the division to total
company profits. i.e. if the receiving divisional unit does not exist, the firm would sell at market
price to the external customers and alternatively if the selling unit does not exist, the firm would
buy from the external market at the market price. Therefore the profits derived from each sub unit
would likely be the same even if the divisions were a separate organisation. By using this method in
a perfectly competitive market, a firm satisfies the three purposes which are: meeting the criteria for
goal congruence, evaluating management effort and not undermining sub unit autonomy. Because
of the internal transactions this method provides a cost saving advantage to the sub unit. For
example the selling unit can avoid credit checks cost and collection cost while the buying units can
avoid inspection cost. Therefore, there is a difference in profit due to the cost reduction while
trading internally. A major problem to this transfer pricing method is markets are unlikely to be
perfectly competitive i.e. the goods in the market are differentiated in a particular way (for
example: price) therefore, companies can determine either price or quantity produced. Firstly, the

stereoscopically, and by light microscopy to determine human or animal origin. Hairs that were

for root material. Only hairs that were not human in appearance and could not be identified as any
other species were utilized in this study.
The hairs were examined for a variety of microscopic features such as: medulla, pigmentation,

Antidepressants Cause Birth Defects
The main argument being made is that some antidepressants can cause birth defects, the article
provides us with a study to help prove this. The study looked at data on more than 38,000 women
who had given birth in 1997 2009 and compared what the mother s antidepressants are and the
child s number of birth defects (Neighmond, 2015). One concept or idea that ties into child
development is epigenetics, where the environment influences or alters gene expression (Berk,
2018), which makes me wonder if in some cases the child being exposed to an environment of a
depressed mother, it may cause some genes to alter. This also ties into the concept of passive gene
environment, where parents who are genetically related to the child set up the environment... Show

An example could be, if the mother or father is showing signs of depression, they may neglect to
take proper care for the child. Maybe because they are depressed, they may not focus all their time
into the child, rather focusing on their depression. A woman who avoids taking antidepressants
during her pregnancy to try and ensure her baby is born without defects could still have a child
with some sort of birth defect, other things can cause birth defects, such as current or prior drug
use illegal or prescribed, or in other cases that child is just genetically predisposed to it. Birth
defects can happen due to genes malfunctioning or even when there are problems with a
chromosome (Berk, 2018). So, it is impossible to say that a pregnant mother can avoid birth defects
by not taking antidepressants. This idea is further reinforced by Jennita Reefhuis in her abstract
video when she cautions us that antidepressants are not the only thing that can cause birth defects,
other possibilities such as pre existing conditions in the mother who takes antidepressants or other
unknown influences may have a large impact on birth defects as well (Reefhuis,

Analysis Of The Poem When I Have Fears
In When I have Fears, the speaker is contemplating what would happen if he were to die too early.
He lists off what he would be unable to accomplish but the speaker is not dying right at that
second. While it could happen at any time, the speaker is just having fears over what would happen
when he ceases to be.
These poems are included because they had a strong feeling of mortality in them and summarize
the concept of what Keats believed it to be. They were not the only two other topic that dealt with
mortality but seemed to have a strong presence of it in them.
The speaker is addressing the star with an apostrophe: Bright star... The occasion is because the
speaker is blissful in his relationship with his lover and does not want their time to end. The sonnet
is filled with images, such as the untouched snow or how he is pillow d upon his lover s breast. The
images help the sonnet be uttered with a dreamy disposition. It s melancholic the alternating rhyme
scheme helps the speaker tell their dreamy desire to live forever with their love: such as breath
rhyming with death. The rhymed words help solidify the image in a reader s mind. He wants to
live a life that goes on without change. He knows the star is lonely, so he does not want to be
enitrely like it; he is more so concerned with the immortality aspect it presents. The apostrophe
helps add an emotional intensity to the poem. It delves deep into the emotional intensity of wanting
to be with your love forever.

Consuming Energy Drinks
Another issue with consuming energy drinks is that their ingredient make up is not typically
provided to the consumer in the form of a nutrition label (Marczinski et al. 2014). The issue with
this is that the consumer really has no idea what he or she is consuming. This can be potentially
dangerous in its self because this common energy blend that is present in most energy drinks can
hold many types of psychoactive compounds such as caffeineand guarana which primarily affect
the brain and mind (Marczinski et al. 2014). However, there are many common ingredients that
energy drinks contain as well as naturally include hidden sources of caffeine (Higgins et al. 2010).

Of these eleven listed energy drinks and energy shots, four provide the actual caffeine content on
the nutrition label of the can (Red Bull, No Fear, Rip It, and SK Energy), but many provide the
consumer with the broad term energy blend, which gives the consumer little to no useful
information except for a broad amount of the combined ingredients within that energy blend.
Table 2 (below) provides a detailed overview of the ingredient make up. There are many brands
of energy drinks available in the world today that hold a vast array of caffeine within. These
energy drinks come in a variety of many sizes as well. Energy drinks are hypothesized to hold a
higher content of caffeine than any other caffeinated drink tested and will be the unhealthiest
option for an energy source. The results of the experiment will be ranked in order based on the
caffeine content for each drink. Through this experiment, the outcomes of consuming energy
drinks such as their health effects and risks associated with consumption will be evaluated. The
worst type of energy drink in the world is predicted to be the more recent energy shot. Energy
shots are believed to hold more health effects and risks because it is such a small dosage that is
being consumed in such a short time frame. Energy shots are also believed to hold a much
higher caffeine level than any other caffeinated drink. A 2 ounce energy shot can easily exceed
the FDA approved level of caffeine intake per day and can also hold up to the same amount of
caffeine as a 16 ounce energy drink if not

Women in William Shakespeare’s Plays Essay
Shakespeare and the members of the Elizabethan era would be appalled at the freedoms women
experience today. The docility of Elizabethan women is almost a forgotten way of life. What we
see throughout Shakespeare s plays is an insight into the female character as perceived by
Elizabethan culture. Shakespeares female characters reflect the Elizabethan era s image of women;
they were to be virtuousand obedient and those that were not were portrayed as undesirable and
even evil.
When one considers Shakespeare s female characters, one has to remember that the plays were
written in a time when women were considered weak minded creatures who were apt to make bad

Orsino, as the frustrated suitor laments that women are very inconstant in their love, and could
have a feeling as deep as the love that he has for Olivia (Bates 10).
Shakespeare also plays with the role of strong women as undesirable, even evil. As we see
throughout many of his plays it is common in Shakespeare s plays... for the good characters to
easily fall victim to their evil counterparts (Peterson 12). This is particularly true of Cordelia and
King Lear in the play, King Lear, as both become victims of Regan s and Goneril s plotting
(Shakespeare V.iii.276 280). Women as the most evil of characters is not a new experiment for
Shakespeare (Peterson 8).
In Elizabethan life a dominant woman was unnatural, a symptom of disorder (Order in the sexes
1). Particularly in King Lear, we see the unnaturalness of dominant women and how they are
evil. Regan and Goneril, who begin the play with false declarations of love for their father, soon
become dominant women who show little regard for the values of their society (Shakespeare
I.ii.54 61, 69 76). Regan, in particular, becomes a target. [Lear] notes that humanity is in danger
because of people like her (Peterson 22). Even Albany, Regan s husband, is appalled at what his
wife has become through her thirst for power. The woman form she takes, Albany proclaims,
disguises the fiend which exists beneath and if it were not for this cover, he would wish to destroy

the situation in a very attractive manner, he basically tells Phoebe that he wants to prevent children
from growing up. He blames the world s evil on adults and believes that when he stops the children
from growing up he will save their innocence and the world. It takes most of the book before
Holden begins to realize that he is helpless to stop this corruption. Finally, he realizes that not only
is there nothing that he can do, but there is nowhere he can go to hide from it. It takes Holden
awhile to understand this. One good example is when Holden is delivering the note to his sister.
He encounters an expletive written on the wall. Holden careful rubs this off with his hand so as to

received attention for its role in language and speech. Damage to the insula is rarely caused in

completed three speech related tasks. Results showed the left anterior insula was activated during
repetition of words. Studies also show that anterior insula activity is correlated with increased
complexity of consonant cluster production (e.g., /s/ is less complex then /st/). An fMRI study by
Bohland Guenther (2006) best demonstrated this. They used tri syllabic words with varying cluster
sequence complexity as stimuli. Activation was seen in the left insula, and this activity enhanced as
complexity of clusters increased. It has also been suggested that the insula plays a role in
production of sound sequences that are novel to the speech system, such as pseudowords and non
native syllables. Shuster (2009) found the anterior insula activation during repetition of
pseudowords compared to repetition of real words. During Moser et al. s (2009) study, normal
speakers produced three syllable words that contained either non native or native syllables. Greater
activation in the left anterior insula was found during non native syllable repetition. Further,
activation was greatest during the first 10 minutes of the experiment, and decreased slightly during
the second 10 minutes, suggesting again, that novel articulatory patterns enhance anterior insula
activation. The evidence proposed by Shuster and Moser emphasize that the insula plays a role in
novel articulatory patterns, which is different from well practiced

Class Struggle in Robert Frost s Poem Out, Out Essay
Class Struggle in Robert Frost s Poem Out, Out
Robert Frost s poem Out, Out is developed around a clear and unquestionable moment: a
horrifying accident in which a young boy is mutilated by a buzz saw. Frost s underlying message,
however, isn t nearly as straightforward. As the poem develops, two clear levels of interpretation
seem to surface. While on the basic level the poem would seem to be a simple metaphor for man s
struggles with nature, a more careful analysis suggests a level of interpretation far more relevant to
humanity as a whole.
On the most basic level, Frost s Out, Out begins by establishing the primary character the dominant
voice in the form of a buzz saw. When the narrator writes that The buzz saw ... Show more content

Thus, the conflict between man and nature is expanded into a conflict between man s destructive
qualities and his innocent acceptance of the natural world.
At the climax of Out, Out Frost clearly reveals the horrible nature of the conflict within man. When
the saw, / As if to prove saws knew what supper meant, / Leaped out at the boys hand, or seemed to
leap, the boy is horribly mutilated both as an individual and as a representation of mankind s
innocence towards nature. The saw, as an embodiment of the destructive qualities of man, takes
the boys hand and, with it, the boy s innocence. When Frost writes that the boy swung toward
them holding up the hand, / Half in appeal, but half as if to keep / The life from spilling he
seems to be presenting the boys final appeal to remain innocent and free of corruption before
nature. His appeal, however, is clearly denied when the boy s life and innocence fades into Little
Less Nothing! Thus, Frost s Out, Out would seem, on the outward level, to be a representation of
man s struggle both with himself and with nature.
It would not be surprising, given Frost s affinity for nature, to assume that Out, Out is, indeed,
merely a poem born out of Frost s

Mannitol Salt Agar Lab Report
Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) differentiates halophile bacteria, and bacteria s ability to ferment
mannitol. Fermenting mannitol results with a yellow halo around colony from the acid produced
(staphylococcal species). MSA is composed of enzymatic digest of casein and animal tissue
(nitrogen, vitamin carbon source), D mannitol (carbohydrate), NaCl (7.5%, halophiles), phenol red
(indicator pH 6.8 turns yellow), and agar (coagulate), with a final pH of 7.4. Unknown 6 did not
grow since it is gram negative, and cannot tolerate the high salt concentration. Also there was no
yellow halo since the colony did not survive therefore could not metabolize mannitol. This is

Durham tubes differentiate a microorganism s ability to ferment sugar (mannitol, dextrose, and
lactose) that may produce a gas, but acidic byproducts will turn solution yellow. Unknown 6 was
yellow in all three test tubes suggesting acidic conditions (fermentation occurred), however
lactose and mannitol were cloudy, dextrose remained clear. There was no gas present in any of
the Durham tube. Urease broth determines if a organism can hydrolyze urea with urease. It
contains urea, nutrients, pH buffers, phenol red (indicator). Unknown 6 tested negative because it
remained yellow and clear, therefore the pH did not rise, because no acid was produced from
hydrolyzing urea. Sulfur Indole Motility Media (SIM deep) differentiates microorganisms that
reduce sulfur, produce indole, and are motile. H2S is reduced by cysteine catabolism, or
thiosulfate, and HCl, p dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, n amyl alcohol (Kovac s reagent). SIM deep
contains nutrients, peptone (tryptophan), iron, sodium thiosulfate. Unknown 6 tested negative to
sulfur reduction and indole production, and remained yellow (after Kovac s reagent was added),
and it is non motile since the agar remained clear. Kliger s Iron Agar (KIA) differentiates glucose,
and lactose fermentation to acids and gasses, specifically sulfur reducers. It contains small amounts
of glucose (to be exhausted), phenol red (indicate acid), lactose (secondary sugar). Fissures are the
result of gas byproducts. Unknown 6 fermented glucose, it failed to ferment lactose. It remained red
with a yellow butt, the surface was pink. It tested negative for H2S, or gas formation.Simmons

Murder Mystery Persuasive Essay
Getting revenge on a person for something they did previously because feeling as though they
did not get proper repercussions is often a recurring reason someone uses to try to justify actions
they do. In Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, Samuel Ratchett, whose name is
actually Cassetti, is murdered in the middle of the night by twelve fellow passengers because of a
particular kidnapping he does years earlier, Daisy Armstrong. Hercule Poirot sets out to find out
who kills Ratchett. He originally suspects that it is just one person, but soon figures out that twelve
people were apart of the vicious attack. Vengeance is described as Punishment inflicted or
retribution exacted for an injury or wrong , while justice is described... Show more content on

For example, the murderers begin warning Ratchett of his approaching death with ominous letters.
The group constantly sends threatening letters, and notes about the Armstrong case to Ratchett that
eventually starts to make him seem paranoid and crazy. People around him just believe he is
losing his mind, so they ignore him until he is actually dead. Furthermore, the assassins attempt to
mislead the detectives when they purposely leave belongings of the murderer in Ratchett s room
to make it seem as though they are trying to incriminate that person. Colonel Arbuthnot is the only
person on the train who admits to smoking using a pipe, so the pipe cleaner found in Ratchett s
room makes it seem as though someone is trying to frame him. This makes the detectives feel as
though Colonel is innocent, which is another example of the processed thinking the murderers do.
Finally, Ratchett is stabbed twelve time, which is both a metaphor, and part of the revenge. The
group feels as though proper justice is not served in the Armstrong, so they stab Ratchett twelve
time symbolizing twelve jury members, as well as a stab for each other as revenge. Poirot realizes
the connection when he says, And then, Messieurs, I saw light. They were all in it. . . . A jury is
composed of twelve people there were twelve passengers Ratchett was stabbed twelve times (306).
The metaphor and emotion behind the stabbing makes it clear that the murder of Ratchett is an act
of pure vengeance. In conclusion, the most meticulous manner the murder is conducted is the
manner in which the murder is

The Potential for Subversion Denied in Sacre de Printemps
Pina Bausch s Sacre de Printemps is a performance that communicates the story of a ritual and
human sacrifice. The performance begins with a large group of women dancing around a red cloth.
Their movements are frantic, sharp, and aggressive and they both move in unison and break off
into canon. Later on in the piece, a group of men join the women and they dancein separate groups,
come together and form circles, and finally break off into pairs. When the men enter the
performance, a ritual begins that involves the selection of one female for sacrificial purposes. The
men select this woman, she changes into a red dress, and all the members of the cast look on as she
dances until she falls to the ground dead. Throughout the piece, there are instances of subversion
and instances of conformity to traditional genderroles in dance. The performance as a whole at times
challenges traditional expectations of women and at others conforms to them. The movement and
costumes convey initial potential for the subversion of male dominance that ends up confirming
and upholding traditional roles and expectations of gender in dance. The dancers movements
throughout the performance seem to challenge and uphold gender binaries at the same time. At the
beginning, when only female dancers are present their movements are agentive, strong, quick, and
athletic characteristics not usually allowed for female dancers. Their movements are similar to the
wild and physical movement of Louise

What started the zombie craze and what kept them alive ? AHHHHhhhhhh........! Imagine being

racing heartbeat. Suddenly, a soft resonating moan starts to fill the empty air of the bedroom.
Looking out the window, the world is an eerie grey with nothing moving but the occasional garbage
blowing in the wind. Suddenly the horizon begins to change as a crowd of people begin to emerge.
Watching nervously, the figures get closer and turn into something much more menacing. They are
all disease invested, flesh rotted, brain hungry zombies! Where did these undead monsters come

Night of the Living Dead gave the world its first zombie and since then the zombie has not stopped

look at zombies but society has turned a once terrifying genre into some humor. Spoofs like
Shawn of the Dead and Zombieland has fun messing around with the rules of the post

music as well with the Kingston Trio s release of the song Zombie Jamboree . Even books have

The Kite Runner Character Analysis
Have you ever assumed what people might be from how they look or the last action they
preformed? Most people can assume that of Amir, a character who is presumed a selfish person
who cares not about what happens in other people s lives. Amir is the main protagonist in the
novel ВЁThe Kite RunnerВЁ. A renowned Afghan man named Baba is his father, and a hazara boy
named hassan is his best friend/brother. The antagonist is Assef who creates many problems for
Amir all throughout his life. Amir appears to be a morally ambiguous character due for the acts of
his childhood and adulthood.
Amir seems to be a very selfish person who will avoid any conflict that does not involve him.
Amir is the son of Baba and Hassan s best friend. Even though Hassan and Amir are great friends,
Amir seems to take their friendship for granted. On the day of the kite running tournament,
Hassan gets mixed up with gang who intend to rape him. They proceed to do so as Amir sits at
the sidelines and watches. Amir says, ВЁI had one last chance to make a decision. One final
opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the
way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or
I could run. In the end I ran. I ran because I was a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he
would do to me.ВЁ (Hosseini 77) Amir has the option to help his friend who has been with him
through thick and thin, but afraid of his own personal safety, he runs. Leaving Hassan
completely alone and helpless. Amir also desires attention from his father and will think or do
awful things to get it. Amir says, I d, ask Ali where Baba was, when he was coming home,
though I know full well he was at the construction site over looking this, supervising that. Didn t
that take patience? I already hated all the kids he was building the orphanage for; sometimes I d
wish they d all die along with their parents. In Amir s mind, getting Baba s attention is all that
matters. Sacrificing others for his own gain becomes a habit of his. Amir is aware of his selfishness
and in someway wants to make up for it.
Contrary to what Amir seems to be he actually is a good samaritan.

Insanity In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s The Black Cat is essentially an extended metaphor for insanity, specifically resulting from
obsession, and the psychopathic complexity of human nature. Through the narrator s reactions
to and Poe s incorporation of various symbols, the struggle the narrator faces with his conscience
and moral surface. The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats,
work together to form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration
of morality through factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example,
the color of the cats, black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of
which are embedded within the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually
associated with bad luck and superstition as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s
wife, although the narrator claims his wife was never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were
specific instances that occurred that related primarily to the narrator and his mental stability,
motives, and emotions. For example, the hanging of his companion, Pluto, is symbolic of the
narrator s inability to accept love as a result of his increasing irritability as well as his deteriorating
stability and mental well being.

Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union
Racial profiling can hold a variety of meanings. As defined by the American Civil Liberties
Union, however, racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of
targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or
national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Every day, blacks are stopped much more frequently for aimless
searches and minor infractions than their white counterparts. Several African Americans share
experiences like these, such as Roscoe Van Pelt, who was violently snatched off the street and
crammed into a squad car after the ludicrous crimeof jaywalking (Walsh). A more extreme
example would be the case of Sandra Bland, who was brutally beaten following failure to signal a
lane change (Schuppe). Incidents like these occur far too frequently in black communities, all for
the color of their skin. The practices of policecan best be explained in the elaboration of case
probability versus class probability. Case probability is when police take specific evidence with
concrete proof in regards to the victim of a crime to accuse one of a crime. Class probability,
however, is when police generalize normal committers of the specific crime to accuse one for it.
For example, if police aimed to prosecute a seller of marijuana and Hispanics were typically
known to commit such a crime, class probability would be integrated into case investigation if
police searched every Hispanic on site for the

Rooting Android Phones Essay
Rooting Android Phones
Smartphones have become more and more common compared to a decade ago. Google s
Android operating system is riding a wave of popularity that has rapidly eclipsed Apple s iOS.
However, despite the relative openness and flexibility of the OS, your Android phone still isn t as
powerful and customizable as it could be. To unlock all of your phone s potential, you ll need to
root it.
The words root , rooting , jailbreaking , root access , and unlocking are terms that are used as the

Most Android devices come with hardware that is fairly heavily capable, yet the OS limits them
and becomes the bottleneck. By rooting, you actually remove the bottleneck and hence can take
full advantage of your beloved Android. For example, the OS does not allow overclocking a
device s CPU natively, and hence overclocking can only be done with a rooted phone. Root users
can overclock the phone s CPU to give it a performance boost by telling the device s processor to
run at a speed slightly higher than it was set to run at. Or suppose you want to use your phone s
LED as flashlight but cannot because the phone manufacturer and/or the carrier provider don t
support the feature, rooting will allow you to bypass this limitation. Furthermore, rooted users can
free up their phone s memory. By default, app is installed and stored on the phone s memory.
Rooting allows you to move installed applications to your memory card (microSD, SD), thus
freeing up system memory for additional files or apps.
Another popular thing to do is to change the look and feel of the device by changing the theme or
custom user interface (UI). Custom UI s are skins that the manufacturer s put on top of Android in
order to differentiate their devices from other Android devices. Some people might not like the
custom UI that the manufacturer put, or they prefer other company s UI. For these reasons,
Android developers have made a ROM (read only memory)

How Mark Twain Influenced American Literature
How Mark Twain Influenced American Literature When you think of the start of American
Literature, what comes to your mind? Authors such as Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemmingway,
Emily Dickinson, Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain stick out in our minds. They were the face of
post civil war and social realism poetry. Today we will take a closer look at Mark Twain
, who was
also known as the Father of American Literature. His work has survived more than 100 years after
his death.
Mark Twain was born in 1835, as Samuel Clemens in the town of Florida, Missouri. He was the

The Civil War in 1861 shattered his dream job. He was no longer allowed to be a pilot because
of the war. Instead of flying, he joined the war. This was also short lived for him. It lasted for
about only 2 weeks. It seemed that his dreams were dying out fast. He next decided to travel out
West. Where he worked for another local Newspaper. He developed the alter ego name Mark
Twain during this time. In 1869, Mark Twain wrote and published his first book The Innocents
Abroad . Sam married his soulmate, Olivia in 1870. They moved to Hartford, Connecticut in
1871 and started a family. The story Roughing It was published in 1872 and the following year
The Gilded Age , which was a story about politics and the corrupt people involved, was published.
The money was fruitful from these books. His family and himself stayed in Hartford for the next
17 years. Well known stories such as The Adventures of Huck Finn , Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn , Life on the Mississippi , The Prince and the Pauper , and Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur

We Will Pay You Langston Hughes Analysis
Langston Hughes, a writer during the Harlem Renaissance, argued that the Negro artist works
against an undertow of sharp criticism and misunderstanding from his own group and
unintentional bribes from the whites. Oh, be respectable, write about nice people, show how
good we are, say the Negroes. Be stereotyped, don t go too far, don t shatter our illusions about

response to these pressures that ... it is the duty of the younger Negro artist ... to change through

However, Hurston s writing also creates a positive perspective on black culture. Hurston
describes the town in the Everglades through the eyes of Janie, writing that no matter how rough
[joking and teasing] was, people seldom got mad, because everything was done for a laugh , and
everybody loved to hear Ed Dockery, Bootyny, and Sop de Bottom in a skin game (134). Rather
than showing the town s lack of seriousness in a negative way, Hurston depicts the town as full of
laughter, love, and lighthearted games. The characters of Ed Dockery, Bootyny, and Sop de
Bottom live in the Everglades with Janie and Tea Cake and are a central part of the community.
Even though the Everglades town is stereotypically black, Hurston presents this town and its
blackness in a positive light. In addition, Janie is accepted quickly by the town; she can listen
and laugh and even talk some if she wanted to and can tell big stories herself from listening to the
rest (134). In Eatonville, whose African American residents act less stereotypically black and
pretentiously try to emulate white people, Janie is unable to assimilate in such a community.
However, the more stereotypically black town in the Everglades is much more accepting
towards Janie. By presenting the culture of the Everglades in a favorable way from Janie s point
of view, Hurston shows pride for conventional black culture. The town in the Everglades is also
illustrated as lively and jubilant; specifically, nights in the town have pianos living three lifetimes
in one , blues made and used right on the spot , dancing, fighting, singing, crying, laughing,
winning and losing love every hour . The town s residents work all day for money, fight all night
for love , and the rich black earth cling[s] to bodies and bit[es]

Michael Mann s The Last Of The Mohicans
In 1992, director Michael Mann decided to create a remake of the American classic The Last of
the Mohicans, written by James Fenimore Cooper. The Last of the Mohicans is a novel that takes
place during the French and Indian War. The reader is taken through the story through the last
surviving members of the Mohican tribe and the British as they fight against the French and
survive attacks from the Huron Indians. Though Mann changes some details of the story slightly,
the overall story remains the same. The film follows Hawkeye, Uncas, and Chingachgook as they
become involved with the British fight against the French when a British caravan, set up by the
native scout Magua, is attacked by Huron Indians. They end up having to escort Col. Monroe s
daughter s Cora and Alice to the safety of their father s fort. However, when they arrive, the fort is
on the verge of being taken by the French. The British and French forces work out a treaty before
the Huron Indians end up breaking their treaty and attack the British once again. They reach

two terms, America was needing a fearless figure in front of economic, domestic and international
threats this nation was experiencing. He brought lower tax rates, negotiated the nuclear arms treaty
with the Soviet Union, and influenced the tear down of the Berlin wall and the ending the Cold
War without firing a shot. Reagan left Office in 1989 and said, We meant to change the nation, but

How Did Bill Gates And Steve Jobs Change The World
Essay 4 Research Paper: How Did Bill Gates and Steve Jobs Change the World?
Without innovators, without people daring to take risks and pushing the boundaries, without
people trying to move/change the world, society does not progress. Innovators are people that
have this crazy idea in their head and go out into this world to make their idea come to life. Bill
Gates and Steve Jobs had this idea of taking a simple computer software program and turning it into
a business that protects everybody s privacy from hackers. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs instead made
something better, and that was Microsoft. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs changed the world.
After about three years in college, Gates decided to make a computer software program company
with Steve Jobs. In 1975, Gates dropped out of Harvard just one year before he graduated and went
on to form his company. Even though both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs did not graduate from college
their personalities and emotions lead themselves towards computers, and its components took them
far.
Bill Gates affected a lot of American history through his impact on technology. Bill Gates had a
lot of positive and negative criticism during his time working with computers. Bill Gates had his
first big major opportunity with computers when he was 14 years of age. Both Bill Gates parents
saw he was doing extremely well in a public school with his grades, so they sent him off to a
private school . In lakeside school was where Bill Gates started to

Ishtar Gate Research Paper
Another spectacular structure in Babylon is the Ishtar Gate. The Ishtar gate is the eighth and
final entrance to the city of Babylon, but it is the main way to enter the city on special
occasions. The Ishtar Gate was constructed by the means of Nebuchadnezzar around 575 BC. He
built this to make his city beautiful and full of life along with the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
The Ishtar Gate was originally one of the Seven Wonders of the World like the Hanging Gardens
of Babylon, but was removed and replaced with something suppodsly better than this beautiful gate
and the walls that surround it. Ishtar was named after the goddess that was worshiped by the
means of the people who are located in Babylon. Ishtar was the goddess of love, war, fertility, and

The dragons represent the god of Marduk. Marduk was a god, but historians believe what he
was god of is unclear because of the fact that it is very complicated, and they do not have enough
evidence to support it. The tiles of the actual gate were glazed blue tiles. The blue tiles are
believed to come from lapis lazuli which is a metamorphic rock packed with the dense, rich
mineral called lazurite. After entering and passing through the gatehouse, a long, straight path
called the Processional Way runs into Babylon. This is about half a mile long paved with red
brick on the outer parts and yellow brick in the middle. Each of the bricks used to make the path
have a inscription underneath them. The inscriptions are small prayers from King
Nebuchadnezzar to Marduk the god. The walls are estimated at about fifty feet high, and the wall
are lined with around one hundred and twenty lions made of gold, brown, and yellow bricks. The
lions represent the goddess that the whole gate is named after, Ishtar.175 The Processional Way
was used for the New Year s celebration, through which statues of the deities would parade down.
This beautiful and lively path led to the temple that Marduk was worshiped

Epicurus And Epicureanism ( Pghc11181 )

Epicurus and Epicureanism (PGHC11181)
Epicurus on the Gods: Realism or Idealism? Conflict between two interpretative parties.
It is commonly accepted that in antiquity people always believed in gods regardless of their
stature. Taking into consideration the different periods of history, there have been observed cases
of incredulity and skepticism as far as the existence of Gods was concerned. The disbelief over
gods and generally divergences on the traditional way of treating gods developed into atheism,
though this atheism never resolved itself into an extravagant tendency. It was claimed that Epicurus
was an atheist himself since he was accorded the syllogism that Gods were not omnipotent since
they are not able to prevent evil and they are malevolent in case they have the power though they
do not want to prevent it. Going further, he was even accredited with the doubt of the existence of
gods. On the contrary, Epicurus disputed infamous atheists of the classical period and strongly
supported that gods existed. However, Epicurus meaning on the existence of gods was ambiguous.
After a long and laborious research on the way Epicurus and Epicureans conceived the nature of
gods, the scholars were divided into two interpretative groups up to date; the first one was
characterized by its realistic approach on the Epicurean theology while the other examined this
complicated theology from a more idealistic aspect. According to realists, Epicurus gods were

Advantages and Considerations for Wynn Macau’s Casino
Executive Summary
Wynn was among the first 3 concessionaries to enter Macau when its gaming industry was liberated
and quickly became one of the most profitable casinos in Macau relative to its size. Junketeers have
contributed greatly to win s success, along with government initiatives. Though gambling is illegal
in many parts of the world, the industry is growing and competition is increasing, particularly in
the east By 2015, the Asian gaming market is expected to be the biggest in the world. In order to
continue to thrive in this growing industry, Wynn will have to consider expanding.

Macau s gaming industry is void of frequent price wars, proliferation of new products, intense
advertising campaigns, and high cost competitive actions and reactions (Peng, 2014, p. 35),
indicative of a low degree of rivalry among competitors. In the future as Macau attracts more, the
industry s profitability may be susceptible to decline because of the following characteristics:
rising number of firms in the industry, rivals are similar in size, influence, and product offerings,
capacity is added in large increments, and high exit costs. (Peng, 2014, p. 37) New casino
projects are already popping up in the nearby region and looking to attract high rollers away from
Macau. This particular market segment has been an integral part of Macau s growth and currently
accounts for 60 65% of the revenues of its largest casinos (The Economist, 2013). As Chinese
leaders attempt to zero in on leadership corruption, high rollers seek alternatives to the restricted
Macau.
1.2 Threat of Potential Entry In general, scarcity is one of the factors driving the SAR s success in
the gaming industry. Firstly, the Macanese government is exercising tight control over its
concessions by carefully selecting winners and holding them accountable to their obligations. Next,
we have the issue of land availability for development. Macau is a small peninsula measuring 28
square kilometers. As a result, there is little room for license holders to

Analysis Of Black Beauty In Anna Sewell s The Georges And...
One of the most courageous decisions youДєl ever make is to finally let go of what is hurting your
heart and soul. This quote said by Brigitte Nicole, holds true for anyone, as any living being will
eventually let go of its pain and find happiness in life.In the excerpt from Black Beauty: An
Autobiography of A Horse by Anna Sewell, a horse is illustrating its change in feelings while
being broken in and wearing unpleasant gear. Distinctive change is also observed in the selection,
The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, where the main character describes her favor in one
horse as opposed to another. By evaluating the excerpts of Black Beauty and Georges and the
Jewels, it is evident that both texts vividly show development in character... Show more content on

At the start of the excerpt, Black Beauty shows that he personally feels hatred toward having to
wear heavy gear such as a bridle. However, at the end, he tells that as he rode with the items on
him more often, his anger had subsided. In the end, this story clearly uses first person point of
view to allow the character to grow from being a stubborn horse to an accepting one. Similarly,
the story Georges and the Jewels uses first person point of view to demonstrate how the main
character changes from favoring a horse to despising another. In paragraph one of the excerpt,
Georges and the Jewels, it states, ...because that horse is just dedicated to bucking you off. So I
did lie there... Near the genesis, Abby is lying on the ground because she is genuinely frustrated
and feels a sense of defeat that the horse she was riding threw her off. Abby is the main character
and she is telling the story in the first person point of view, which allows the text to be
interpreted that her annoyance towards the horse is clear. If the story had been written in another
point of view, the main character s opening feelings towards her father s horses would not have
been shown. In paragraph nine, it states, I rode her every day, and she never put a foot wrong.
Abby is having a flashback where she looks back at the time she had a very sweet horse that she
truly loved. This shows that since she

Racial Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay
In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows a lot of racial or social issues, especially against the
African Americans, such as racial inequality and poor treatment of the poor or homeless; both of
these are still at least partially seen today. Harper Lee uses the unfair trial of Tom Robinson and
his cruel death to show racial inequality, especially towards the African Americans. Towards the
end of the trial, Lee describes how the jury acts when they come back in as: A jury never looks
at a defendant it has convicted, and when this jury came in, not one of them looked at Tom
Robinson... (Lee 282). Then, Judge Taylor announces the verdict: Guilty... guilty... guilty...
guilty... (Lee 282). Later on, Atticus comes home after finding out about Tom Robinson s death:
Tom s dead.... They got him just as he went over the fence.... Seventeen bullet holes in him (Lee
315). Based on this evidence, it is clear that racial inequality was evident in the 1930 s because
with prior knowledge from the novel, we know that Tom didn t stand much of a chance against
the jury because of his being African American. Also, if a white man had done what Tom did, he
probably would have been given a fairer trial than Tom was. Even though, the police obviously
wanted him dead as he tried to escape prison, there was no reason to shoot him seventeen times.
Racial inequality can still been seen in the country, and around the world, but doesn t seem to be
as bad as it had been; some statistics show it improved soon after, but some facts show it took
longer. One statistic showing that racial inequality has gotten better states, In 1980, over 50% of
the Blacks aged 25 or more had completed high school, and, by 2012, 85% (Coleman 183).One
fact stating that racial inequality took a while before improving states, Even after the slaves were
freed, the African Americans continued to face legal discrimination and segregation until the
victories of the civil rights movement in the 1960 s ( Preface to What... 1). This evidence shows
that racial inequality didn t really improve at first. After the civil rights movement, things improved
for the African Americans. From the statistic, the reader knows that between 1980 and 2012, a little

would still have to deal with all the troublesome White neighbors, therefore their best option was

5. It is argued that they can never remain quiet where they are;n that they will always be infested
by troublesome whites; and that the states, which lay claim their territory, will always preserve
in measures to vex and annoy them. The Natives didn t understand why the white people wanted
them gone so bad, because the white people tried so hard to change the Natives culture to make
them act like the white people. The Natives changed they way they acted, worked, and how they

hunters, they have become the cultivators of the soil instead of wild and ferocious savages,
thirsting for blood, they become the mild citizens. The Cherokees were really upset, because not
only were they leaving what had now become their norm they were also leaving their land which

  • 2. Improving Employee Retention At Tuality The second pillar, destination healthcare employer, aims at recruiting high performers and improving employee retention. The current rate of turnover at Tuality is high compared to other Portland Metro counterparts and training is expensive. Other plans for retention include providing a market competitive wage and benefits package. High visibility recognition will be seen featured more in the coming years with the initiation of the President s Award and other programs aimed at ensuring employees feel valued. Currently, 79% of the workforce of 1320 employees are Caucasian and the other 21% can be broken down into minority groups of 10% Latino, 7% Asian, 1% Black, and 3% Native American /Pacific Islander (Ratliffe, February 2014). Current initiatives that Tuality has in the works for 2015 is to improve diversity of its workforce and, therefore, improve its service to the minority population in the area. Based on the Community Health Needs Assessment Report, the population configuration of whom Tuality serves averages roughly 25% Latino patients (Tuality Healthcare, 2014). To better serve those patients, Tuality must attract, hire and retain more minority employee in direct patient care professions such as physicians and nurses that will reflect a better match to the patient base. The third pillar, community reputation for unparalleled value, is perhaps the largest hurdle to overcome. It is hard to expect patients to use Tuality if they do not believe they will get good value for their money and have positive health outcomes. Because of being a small organization, Tuality has to work harder to achieve similar outcomes of patient satisfaction than its larger Portland area counterparts. Tuality serves a smaller number of patients, and when mistakes happen it increases the percentage of bad experiences for patients and lowers the HCAHPS scores. The HCAHPS ... • 5. Essay Analytic Response the Little Mermaid Inside the Little Mermaid by:Brandie Tittsworth Jm0300776 When I young, I liked to pretended I was Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I hopelessly dreamt of finding my prince charming. I sang and danced to the songs, and loved the thought of the castle in the ocean, or a secret cave with items from shipwrecks. Watching the same story later in life with my own children I can without a doubt say that Ariel could be a role model for not only me but my daughter also in the way she stays true to who she is. This movie also shows aversions for interpellation in the sense that it conveys the favorable reception of things, not ordinary. It says that you do not have to settle just for the town quarterback, just because you are the head cheerleader. Instead, you can find someone who your souls connect, and live happily ever after. When Ariel gets her voice back from the sea witch but turns back into a mermaid, Eric isn t phased by her fin, he knows for sure that she is the one, and he won t let her go again. By any means necessary. Ariel also questions the interpellated messages she receives from the general public. The people of Ariel s kingdom believe that, as a young woman, you should live up to specific social standards. Ariel breaks these traditions in numerous ways. To begin, even as Ariel swims through the ocean the mer people talk about how she is so peculiar; how she does not quite fit expectations. They cannot understand why she isn t like her sisters. Why she doesn t quite fit in and obeys the King, her father, with her sisters who try to find a husband, or sing and put on shows for their father and the locals. Instead, she is distracted by the land people, she is always trying to explore the ocean and find items left behind by humans. • 6. The Emotional vs. Intellectual Growth of Children in Hard... In Hard Times, Charles Dickens explores the importance of the developments of both intellect and emotions throughout a child s upbringing. However, to an extent, Dickens emphasizes on the greater importance of emotional growth compared to intellectual growth; such as the much happier and more compassionate human being Sissy is compared to Louisa and Tom, whom have had all fancy rooted out of their childhood. Furthermore, although Bitzer may not be unhappy in any way, he still lacks compassion and an understanding of emotions as a result of his education under Gradgrind s fact only system. Even though she is aware of the reasons behind the way that she is, such is the impact that Gradgrind s education on her that she has no means of comforting herself or repairing the damages that she has endured. Consequently, it has demonstrated the degree to which the failure of development of her emotions has affected Louisa and caused her young life to be filled with misery. Nevertheless, if Louisa hadn t possessed her desire of emotions, the detrimental effects, that she is aware of, would be lessened a great deal. Bitzer undergoes the same figurative and factual education as Louisa and Tom, hence he too lacks the ability to identify with emotions. On the contrary, Bitzer did not possess the inner fire that Louisa had, and as a result did not feel that he had been repressed or miserable. He develops into a cold and heartless human being and has no compassion whatsoever for anyone or anything. Bitzer s heart is only accessible to reason and he feels no need to thank his educator, Gradgrind, when is asked of him during Tom s escape. Furthermore, Bitzer notes that his schooling was paid for and that when he graduated, the bargain ended . This emphasizes how in Bitzer s mind, everything is determined upon figures and reason, and has no room for any sort of compassion. It is through Bitzer that Dickens demonstrates how even though on may not feel as though they are suffering from the lack of emotional growth, it is plain to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Globalization and Transfer Pricing Essay Globalisation could be defined as the interactive co evolution of millions of technological, cultural, economic, social and environmental trends at all conceivable spatiotemporal scales (Rennen Martens 2003). When discussing globalisation, the topic transfer pricing always seem to arise which could be because this multi nationals trade between themselves and the government also uses transfer pricing. Therefore transfer pricing is used wold wide and could be said to be an important accounting factor which enables the success of a firm due to the fact its set up to induce optimal decision making in decentralized firms. This method could be said to closely reflect the real economic contribution of the division to total company profits. i.e. if the receiving divisional unit does not exist, the firm would sell at market price to the external customers and alternatively if the selling unit does not exist, the firm would buy from the external market at the market price. Therefore the profits derived from each sub unit would likely be the same even if the divisions were a separate organisation. By using this method in a perfectly competitive market, a firm satisfies the three purposes which are: meeting the criteria for goal congruence, evaluating management effort and not undermining sub unit autonomy. Because of the internal transactions this method provides a cost saving advantage to the sub unit. For example the selling unit can avoid credit checks cost and collection cost while the buying units can avoid inspection cost. Therefore, there is a difference in profit due to the cost reduction while trading internally. A major problem to this transfer pricing method is markets are unlikely to be perfectly competitive i.e. the goods in the market are differentiated in a particular way (for example: price) therefore, companies can determine either price or quantity produced. • 11. Antidepressants Cause Birth Defects The main argument being made is that some antidepressants can cause birth defects, the article provides us with a study to help prove this. The study looked at data on more than 38,000 women who had given birth in 1997 2009 and compared what the mother s antidepressants are and the child s number of birth defects (Neighmond, 2015). One concept or idea that ties into child development is epigenetics, where the environment influences or alters gene expression (Berk, 2018), which makes me wonder if in some cases the child being exposed to an environment of a depressed mother, it may cause some genes to alter. This also ties into the concept of passive gene environment, where parents who are genetically related to the child set up the environment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example could be, if the mother or father is showing signs of depression, they may neglect to take proper care for the child. Maybe because they are depressed, they may not focus all their time into the child, rather focusing on their depression. A woman who avoids taking antidepressants during her pregnancy to try and ensure her baby is born without defects could still have a child with some sort of birth defect, other things can cause birth defects, such as current or prior drug use illegal or prescribed, or in other cases that child is just genetically predisposed to it. Birth defects can happen due to genes malfunctioning or even when there are problems with a chromosome (Berk, 2018). So, it is impossible to say that a pregnant mother can avoid birth defects by not taking antidepressants. This idea is further reinforced by Jennita Reefhuis in her abstract video when she cautions us that antidepressants are not the only thing that can cause birth defects, other possibilities such as pre existing conditions in the mother who takes antidepressants or other unknown influences may have a large impact on birth defects as well (Reefhuis, ... • 12. Analysis Of The Poem When I Have Fears In When I have Fears, the speaker is contemplating what would happen if he were to die too early. He lists off what he would be unable to accomplish but the speaker is not dying right at that second. While it could happen at any time, the speaker is just having fears over what would happen when he ceases to be. These poems are included because they had a strong feeling of mortality in them and summarize the concept of what Keats believed it to be. They were not the only two other topic that dealt with mortality but seemed to have a strong presence of it in them. The speaker is addressing the star with an apostrophe: Bright star... The occasion is because the speaker is blissful in his relationship with his lover and does not want their time to end. The sonnet is filled with images, such as the untouched snow or how he is pillow d upon his lover s breast. The images help the sonnet be uttered with a dreamy disposition. It s melancholic the alternating rhyme scheme helps the speaker tell their dreamy desire to live forever with their love: such as breath rhyming with death. The rhymed words help solidify the image in a reader s mind. He wants to live a life that goes on without change. He knows the star is lonely, so he does not want to be enitrely like it; he is more so concerned with the immortality aspect it presents. The apostrophe helps add an emotional intensity to the poem. • 13. Consuming Energy Drinks Another issue with consuming energy drinks is that their ingredient make up is not typically provided to the consumer in the form of a nutrition label (Marczinski et al. 2014). The issue with this is that the consumer really has no idea what he or she is consuming. This can be potentially dangerous in its self because this common energy blend that is present in most energy drinks can hold many types of psychoactive compounds such as caffeineand guarana which primarily affect the brain and mind (Marczinski et al. 2014). However, there are many common ingredients that energy drinks contain as well as naturally include hidden sources of caffeine (Higgins et al. 2010). Take Guarana for instance, this is a common ingredient in most, if not all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of these eleven listed energy drinks and energy shots, four provide the actual caffeine content on the nutrition label of the can (Red Bull, No Fear, Rip It, and SK Energy), but many provide the consumer with the broad term energy blend, which gives the consumer little to no useful information except for a broad amount of the combined ingredients within that energy blend. Table 2 (below) provides a detailed overview of the ingredient make up. There are many brands of energy drinks available in the world today that hold a vast array of caffeine within. The docility of Elizabethan women is almost a forgotten way of life. What we see throughout Shakespeare s plays is an insight into the female character as perceived by Elizabethan culture. Shakespeares female characters reflect the Elizabethan era s image of women; they were to be virtuousand obedient and those that were not were portrayed as undesirable and even evil. This is particularly true of Cordelia and King Lear in the play, King Lear, as both become victims of Regan s and Goneril s plotting (Shakespeare V.iii.276 280). Women as the most evil of characters is not a new experiment for Shakespeare (Peterson 8). In Elizabethan life a dominant woman was unnatural, a symptom of disorder (Order in the sexes 1). Particularly in King Lear, we see the unnaturalness of dominant women and how they are evil. Regan and Goneril, who begin the play with false declarations of love for their father, soon become dominant women who show little regard for the values of their society (Shakespeare I.ii.54 61, 69 76). Regan, in particular, becomes a target. [Lear] notes that humanity is in danger because of people like her (Peterson 22). He blames the world s evil on adults and believes that when he stops the children from growing up he will save their innocence and the world. It takes most of the book before Holden begins to realize that he is helpless to stop this corruption. One good example is when Holden is delivering the note to his sister. He encounters an expletive written on the wall. • 19. The Role Of The Insula In Sylvian Language 1)The insula is defined as a large cortical region stretched along the floor of the Sylvian fissure (Kemmerer, 2013. Ch. 6 p. 33). Because the insula is a more hidden structure, it has only recently received attention for its role in language and speech. Damage to the insula is rarely caused in isolation, making it difficult to determine whether deficits are solely associated with insula damage or other areas. A growing number of studies have proposed that the insula plays a role in complex articulatory coordination and syntactic encoding. In combination the available evidence on the insula support its role in the following areas: AOS, word repetition, production of complex clusters, pseudowords, and non native syllables, word inflection,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wise et al. (1999) used positron emission tomography (PET) with 12 normal patients who completed three speech related tasks. Results showed the left anterior insula was activated during repetition of words. Studies also show that anterior insula activity is correlated with increased complexity of consonant cluster production (e.g., /s/ is less complex then /st/). An fMRI study by Bohland Guenther (2006) best demonstrated this. They used tri syllabic words with varying cluster sequence complexity as stimuli. Activation was seen in the left insula, and this activity enhanced as complexity of clusters increased. It has also been suggested that the insula plays a role in production of sound sequences that are novel to the speech system, such as pseudowords and non native syllables. Shuster (2009) found the anterior insula activation during repetition of pseudowords compared to repetition of real words. During Moser et al. s (2009) study, normal speakers produced three syllable words that contained either non native or native syllables. Greater activation in the left anterior insula was found during non native syllable repetition. Further, activation was greatest during the first 10 minutes of the experiment, and decreased slightly during the second 10 minutes, suggesting again, that novel articulatory patterns enhance anterior insula activation. The evidence proposed by Shuster and Moser emphasize that the insula plays a role in novel articulatory patterns, which is different from well practiced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Class Struggle in Robert Frost s Poem Out, Out Essay Class Struggle in Robert Frost s Poem Out, Out Robert Frost s poem Out, Out is developed around a clear and unquestionable moment: a horrifying accident in which a young boy is mutilated by a buzz saw. Frost s underlying message, however, isn t nearly as straightforward. As the poem develops, two clear levels of interpretation seem to surface. While on the basic level the poem would seem to be a simple metaphor for man s struggles with nature, a more careful analysis suggests a level of interpretation far more relevant to humanity as a whole. On the most basic level, Frost s Out, Out begins by establishing the primary character the dominant voice in the form of a buzz saw. When the narrator writes that The buzz saw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the conflict between man and nature is expanded into a conflict between man s destructive qualities and his innocent acceptance of the natural world. At the climax of Out, Out Frost clearly reveals the horrible nature of the conflict within man. When the saw, / As if to prove saws knew what supper meant, / Leaped out at the boys hand, or seemed to leap, the boy is horribly mutilated both as an individual and as a representation of mankind s innocence towards nature. The saw, as an embodiment of the destructive qualities of man, takes the boys hand and, with it, the boy s innocence. When Frost writes that the boy swung toward them holding up the hand, / Half in appeal, but half as if to keep / The life from spilling he seems to be presenting the boys final appeal to remain innocent and free of corruption before nature. His appeal, however, is clearly denied when the boy s life and innocence fades into Little Less Nothing! Thus, Frost s Out, Out would seem, on the outward level, to be a representation of man s struggle both with himself and with nature. Furthermore, the assassins attempt to mislead the detectives when they purposely leave belongings of the murderer in Ratchett s room to make it seem as though they are trying to incriminate that person. Colonel Arbuthnot is the only person on the train who admits to smoking using a pipe, so the pipe cleaner found in Ratchett s room makes it seem as though someone is trying to frame him. The performance as a whole at times challenges traditional expectations of women and at others conforms to them. The movement and costumes convey initial potential for the subversion of male dominance that ends up confirming and upholding traditional roles and expectations of gender in dance. The dancers movements throughout the performance seem to challenge and uphold gender binaries at the same time. • 31. Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union Racial profiling can hold a variety of meanings. As defined by the American Civil Liberties Union, however, racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Every day, blacks are stopped much more frequently for aimless searches and minor infractions than their white counterparts. Several African Americans share experiences like these, such as Roscoe Van Pelt, who was violently snatched off the street and crammed into a squad car after the ludicrous crimeof jaywalking (Walsh). A more extreme example would be the case of Sandra Bland, who was brutally beaten following failure to signal a lane change (Schuppe). Incidents like these occur far too frequently in black communities, all for the color of their skin. The practices of policecan best be explained in the elaboration of case probability versus class probability. Case probability is when police take specific evidence with concrete proof in regards to the victim of a crime to accuse one of a crime. Class probability, however, is when police generalize normal committers of the specific crime to accuse one for it. For example, if police aimed to prosecute a seller of marijuana and Hispanics were typically known to commit such a crime, class probability would be integrated into case investigation if police searched every Hispanic on site for the ... Scott Fitzgerald, the symbolic nature of the green light conveys the message that holding onto a fantasy for too long can lead to loss of reality. One ominous midnight, Nick, Mr. Jay Gatsby s neighbor, observes a strange man standing still in his well kept lawn looking only into the bay and something about that man in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby , without knowing his intentions Nick glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away (Fitzgerald 25 26). Most Android devices come with hardware that is fairly heavily capable, yet the OS limits them and becomes the bottleneck. By rooting, you actually remove the bottleneck and hence can take full advantage of your beloved Android. For example, the OS does not allow overclocking a device s CPU natively, and hence overclocking can only be done with a rooted phone. Root users can overclock the phone s CPU to give it a performance boost by telling the device s processor to run at a speed slightly higher than it was set to run at. Or suppose you want to use your phone s LED as flashlight but cannot because the phone manufacturer and/or the carrier provider don t support the feature, rooting will allow you to bypass this limitation. Furthermore, rooted users can free up their phone s memory. By default, app is installed and stored on the phone s memory. Rooting allows you to move installed applications to your memory card (microSD, SD), thus freeing up system memory for additional files or apps. Another popular thing to do is to change the look and feel of the device by changing the theme or custom user interface (UI). Custom UI s are skins that the manufacturer s put on top of Android in order to differentiate their devices from other Android devices. Some people might not like the custom UI that the manufacturer put, or they prefer other company s UI. For these reasons, Android developers have made a ROM (read only memory) ... Rather than showing the town s lack of seriousness in a negative way, Hurston depicts the town as full of laughter, love, and lighthearted games. The characters of Ed Dockery, Bootyny, and Sop de Bottom live in the Everglades with Janie and Tea Cake and are a central part of the community. Even though the Everglades town is stereotypically black, Hurston presents this town and its blackness in a positive light. In addition, Janie is accepted quickly by the town; she can listen and laugh and even talk some if she wanted to and can tell big stories herself from listening to the rest (134). In Eatonville, whose African American residents act less stereotypically black and pretentiously try to emulate white people, Janie is unable to assimilate in such a community. However, the more stereotypically black town in the Everglades is much more accepting towards Janie. By presenting the culture of the Everglades in a favorable way from Janie s point of view, Hurston shows pride for conventional black culture. The town in the Everglades is also illustrated as lively and jubilant; specifically, nights in the town have pianos living three lifetimes in one , blues made and used right on the spot , dancing, fighting, singing, crying, laughing, winning and losing love every hour . It is commonly accepted that in antiquity people always believed in gods regardless of their stature. Taking into consideration the different periods of history, there have been observed cases of incredulity and skepticism as far as the existence of Gods was concerned. The disbelief over gods and generally divergences on the traditional way of treating gods developed into atheism, though this atheism never resolved itself into an extravagant tendency. It was claimed that Epicurus was an atheist himself since he was accorded the syllogism that Gods were not omnipotent since they are not able to prevent evil and they are malevolent in case they have the power though they do not want to prevent it. Going further, he was even accredited with the doubt of the existence of gods. On the contrary, Epicurus disputed infamous atheists of the classical period and strongly supported that gods existed. However, Epicurus meaning on the existence of gods was ambiguous. After a long and laborious research on the way Epicurus and Epicureans conceived the nature of gods, the scholars were divided into two interpretative groups up to date; the first one was characterized by its realistic approach on the Epicurean theology while the other examined this complicated theology from a more idealistic aspect. • 48. Racial Inequality In To Kill A Mockingbird Essay In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows a lot of racial or social issues, especially against the African Americans, such as racial inequality and poor treatment of the poor or homeless; both of these are still at least partially seen today. Harper Lee uses the unfair trial of Tom Robinson and his cruel death to show racial inequality, especially towards the African Americans. Towards the end of the trial, Lee describes how the jury acts when they come back in as: A jury never looks at a defendant it has convicted, and when this jury came in, not one of them looked at Tom Robinson... (Lee 282). Then, Judge Taylor announces the verdict: Guilty... guilty... guilty... guilty... (Lee 282). Later on, Atticus comes home after finding out about Tom Robinson s death: Tom s dead.... They got him just as he went over the fence.... Seventeen bullet holes in him (Lee 315). Based on this evidence, it is clear that racial inequality was evident in the 1930 s because with prior knowledge from the novel, we know that Tom didn t stand much of a chance against the jury because of his being African American. Also, if a white man had done what Tom did, he probably would have been given a fairer trial than Tom was. Even though, the police obviously wanted him dead as he tried to escape prison, there was no reason to shoot him seventeen times. Racial inequality can still been seen in the country, and around the world, but doesn t seem to be as bad as it had been; some statistics show it improved soon after, but some facts show it took longer. One statistic showing that racial inequality has gotten better states, In 1980, over 50% of the Blacks aged 25 or more had completed high school, and, by 2012, 85% (Coleman 183).One fact stating that racial inequality took a while before improving states, Even after the slaves were freed, the African Americans continued to face legal discrimination and segregation until the victories of the civil rights movement in the 1960 s ( Preface to What... 1).
