WORKSHOP/ ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I
LOCATION: The site is located at Byumba in Northern province,
OBJECTIVES: The aim is to emphasize on the quality of the space, focusing on lighting and
ventilation, looking at different spatial requirements.
The concept of the project is to connect a building to the forest and create a public courtyard and allow people using both the building and the courtyard to
enjoy the view over the valley(in North).
The site is on terraced hill, with a forest in West, and there is a beautful view on
the mountain in the North. The other side(East) we mostly have residential
houses.
3. The building is stepped in the opposite direction of terraces to allow view for people on the ground floor, and the north facade of the upper floor is designed with
clear glass to avoid obstraction of the view.
People using the landscaped area in the courtyard enjoy the view over the valley, and they feel connected to the forest. The upper part was designed using
Bamboo(Local material), where there transtion from close to open as you move towards the north, to attract people to use the entire building.
4. The building is stepped in the opposite direction of terraces to allow view for people on the ground floor, and the north facade of the upper floor is designed with

The has various public open spaces used differently some are used as children playing area, car parking, gathering space (especially under the canopy of trees),
Artists’ exhibition and some are very vibrant in the evening for sea food(those located near the sea).
Almost all buildings of the town are the same height(G+2), that are very close with different activities as you move in the town from the sea to the end of the
town and these make the town to be interesting and not boring while walking. The project would fit in the context( Culture, architectural conservation, use of
material,....) so that it will not be like a strange element in the town.

The site is in the middle of stone town neighborhood, and it is exposed to the sun, it has a gentle slop, there are four entry to the site, however none of them can
be used as car access(they are all pedestrians’ access)
The concept of the project is to integrate that character of public spaces in the building and design those public space considering that people in stone town use to gather under the canopy
of trees(mainly palm tree),getting light filtered through leaves and shading. Public spaces in the building are defined by the way they are designed where they have a treelike canopy to
have the same feeling as other existing public spaces within the town, and their facades are formed by vertical pieces of wood. Private spaces are formed by Coral stones wall and all
floors are boriti poles and stones.
7. Publiv spaces are integrated in the building to have the same carscter of the neighborhood where public open spaces are found within the city, and they are used
differently
The floor is stepping especially in spaces where there are many people that want to follow activities in common like in classroom for theory, trainees can flow trainer without being ob-
structed by another. And in the workshop where the work place is arranged according to the process of making(cutting,smoothing,assembling,...)

are also connected. Apart from cafeterias Theory classroom and changing rooms are found on this floor.
The ceiling is the continuity of wood that forms the facade(treelike ceiling) as beam, the coral stone and finishing to for a slab.
Vertical woods continue to form stairs( suspended stairs).

URUKUNDO POTTERY WORKSHOP
LOCATION: The site is located at Kacyiru _Gasabo district_ kigali city
OBJECTIVE: The project aim is to conceptualize programs according to the process of making in pottery workshop. After the completion of this project, the next project is the school
in the same sector.
10. The analysis of the neighborhood was done considering different elements, including; education, health, economic activities, admnistration, social
activities, availability of raw material to use in the workshop,...
The analysis of thesite:The site is facing the joint of three roads in west and the commuty where a huge number of cooperativemembers take their dwelling, farming area, club mama sportif.
Wetland and a hill view, main road from UTEXRWA to Gacuriro in north. housing of thevillage and a road to SOS primary school in south.
HEALTH AND EDUCATION CHURCHES AND ADMINISTRATION
ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES AND PUBLIC AMENITIES
11. From the analysis in my design the entrance is from west where there a huge number of cooperative members, the connection of main road for raw materials
,clients,..The building is designed in a way the exibition is part of public space and facing all programs within building.
The form of roof was inspired by the wetland in north of the site with irrigation for and it is used for collection of water. The public spac is opened(viewed) to the
wetland and hill view . Programs are arranged according to the process of making pottery products: Fromstorage of raw materials, workshop, storage of products
in process(to be cooked),kiln exhibition and storage of final products(on the entrance to facilitate transport).

LOCATION: The site is located at Kacyiru _Gasabo district_ kigali city
OBJECTIVE: The project aim is a confortable school environment for both primary and nursary students(Studying area, eating, recreational area,...)
13. The site is located at Kacyiru sector, gasabo district, Kigali city. I t is surounded by commercial buildings (West) in green,Informal settlement(East) in yellow and
building of middle income people (North) in blue.
The concept is welcoming neighbouring comminity in the school by creating central space (core) used by both student and comminity, and landscape outside
classrooms accessed by comminity ( communal apace).
-
14. The project has different programs, Cannteen In red nearby the informal settlement, head office, teachers’ office, primary In blue, nursary in yellow and public
spaces including landscape and central core. And The central core is used by both neighbouring people and students, it is a space for entertainment.
Apart from schoool there are teachers’ housing that I designed in a way they become like continuation of informal settlement( transition from informal settle-
ment to school) and classrooms have an enclosure on one side to provide privacy of classrooms. Facades of classrooms have vertical windows to allow enough
light in classroom with wentillation( floor to roof wondows) and the wall for enclosure in perforated.
