Walking the Edit Presentation 2013
The artistic aim of the Walking the Edit project is to enable the creation of unique and individual movies by anybody, based on already existing audio-visual material and... a walk.
Stories of-from-about-with the territory: the practice of “walking of a movie” is an open and playful way of interacting with the audiovisual memory of our surrounding environment and everyday life. By mixing our immediate reality with feeds and data coming from the digital space (the mobile internet), we create a so-called “augmented reality”. The project “Walking the Edit” opens an alternative path to this hybrid territory, by reducing the growing data-worlds into a single linear, time based construction: a story. One story out of many potential others: the past of the place you are interacting with is (re)combining itself to deliver a new, contextual and unique story that belongs to your present.

The document describes the development and implementation of an interactive movie map system. The system allows users to virtually navigate an unfamiliar urban environment through street-level video footage and aerial photos accessed from a video disc. Users can travel through sequences of photographic footage, view maps and data, and change their viewpoint and route. The system was developed using footage of Aspen, Colorado filmed from streets and helicopters. It is intended as a research tool to study how users acquire spatial knowledge of an unfamiliar place through interaction with the system.

Tele immersion
Tele-immersion is an advanced form of virtual reality that allows users in different locations to interact in real-time within a shared simulated environment. It uses "tele-cubicles" equipped with screens, sensors, and cameras that are linked together to form a larger shared space. Applications of tele-immersion include uses in medicine, education, military training, and industrial design by enabling collaboration over long distances. As bandwidth and display technologies improve over time, tele-immersion may become commonplace and replace much business travel by allowing distant colleagues to meet virtually within a shared simulated workspace.

The technique of simulating three-dimensional reality is known as virtual reality.

Enables the exploration of alternative designs within a single representation using parameters and associative relationships to control geometric and constructive aspects of the design.
New developments in computational design as well as in digital fabrication are currently leading to a rethinking of architectural design, material science, engineering and fabrication.
The Looking Glass
The Looking Glass is an audiovisual interactive installation that responds to individuals by creating an altered representation of users. Participants enter a dark room with a fibre optic wall, which is activated by the movement and projects a distorted silhouette of the participants through the individual glowing strands of fibre optics. Any sound emitted by the user will be echoed and cause the projections to change colour based on volume. The installation allows participants to develop an awareness of an alternative self, which encourages interaction and reflection. It explores the line between the digital and physical using fibre optic.
Optical camouflage-2
Optical camouflage uses augmented reality technology and retro-reflective materials to make objects appear invisible. It works by using a video camera to capture the background scene, a computer to process the image, a projector to display the image on the retro-reflective cloak, and a special mirror that allows the wearer to see the projected background. This creates the illusion that the wearer is invisible. Potential applications include helping pilots see runways or surgeons see through their hands. A related concept is mutual telexistence, which allows people in different locations to perceive each other as if in the same place through the use of video cameras and projectors with retro-reflective robots.

He envisions cameras that can understand scenes at a higher level than humans by producing meaningful abstractions from vast amounts of visual data. His work includes techniques like looking around corners using transient imaging, long distance barcodes, light field displays, and augmented reality. The goal is to advance both imaging hardware and computational algorithms to create an "ultimate camera" beyond the limitations of traditional photography.

- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRGjImyhuR8 visitors are invited to fly, as in dreams, through a world of many dimensions, between past and future, light and darkness, the public and private. The immersed visitors use a joystick to move an information/experience space where scale matters. The projection space (inverted dome, 5,5 m in diameter, 3 m high, free standing) opens up in two sections to let visitors in and experience total audio and visual immersion. It can be left open slightly to let large numbers of visitors flow through or be closed from within by a smaller group (up to 8 people). The experience of flight is driven by an industrial strength 3-axis joystick; anybody will know intuitively how to make use of it for navigation. A regular PC (WIN XP) runs the program (C++/ OpenGL). It is connected to the SXGA hemispheric projector (above the visitors’ heads) and to a series of 12 small transducers forming a hyper realistic immersive soundscape. A DV camera is used for live telepresence and other live video input.

PIR sensors are often used in the construction of PIR-based motion detectors (see below).
