2. Digital Credit And Debit Card Fraud Essay
The Problem:
Worldwide credit and debit card fraud resulted in losses amounting to $16.31 billion during the
year 2014. The United States has been disproportionately affected by this fraud, due to their lack of
adoption of the EMV Chip security measure. According to the 2012 Nilson Report, American card
issuers lost $3.4 billion and merchants lost another $1.9 billion. America makes credit card fraud
easy for fraudsters, by still relying on cards with magnetic strips which are less secure than EMV
Chip enabled transactions.
Consumer Value
The main sources of value that EMV Chip transactions will provide consumers are their new anti
fraud security features. These features will give the consumer piece of mind that their money, the
banking institution, and the merchant accepting payment are all secure.
An additional value to the consumer of EMV Chip transactions is the ease of enrollment. There
is no difference in enrollment for an EMV Chip card compared to the magnetic stripe card,
though new cards will need to be issued. There is a considerable difference on the individual
transaction level when completing an EMV transaction as the device is now inserted into a reader,
as opposed to just swiped in a machine. The new insertion process is not difficult, but could have a
behavioral and learning curve.
Consumer Reduction in Net Value
When the EMV Chip is inserted into the reader, the card should not be moved or wiggled as this
could greatly reduce the success of

3. The Marketing Mix Of Starbucks
II)Marketing Mix
The marketing mix is the set of tactical marketing tools that the firm blends to produce the response
it wants in the target market. It consists of everything the firm can do to influence the demand for
its products (Kotler et al., 2013, p.53). Its main characteristics can be categorised into a 4Ps
framework.
a)Product
Starbucks was initially known as a premium coffee chain for high standard coffee lovers.
However, throughout the years and the fierce competition, Starbucks has expanded its product
portfolio to match new customer needs. They introduced the brands Tazo Tea and Fizzio
offering caffeine free handcrafted sodas (Mintel, 2014). They also launched innovative
beverages like the Frappuccino, and created an extensive food menu. In fact, a study has shown
that around 22% of hot drink purchasers were very interested in seeing baked goods on the
menu of coffee shops (Mintel, 2014). They also do their best to introduce seasonal offerings,
such as the gingerbread for Christmas (Erin, 2010). They now host 8 main categories of drinks
and 7 of food to attract a wider range of consumers (i.e. the non coffee lovers). Nevertheless,
beverages still account for 60% of sales in the store (Statista, 2015). Beyond serving drinks and
food, Starbucks enables its customers to purchase Starbucks coffee and cappuccino makers, to
extend the Starbucks experience at home, in a Starbucks mug. Each product is unique since the
barista personalises it with the

4. The Dna And The Nucleus Of Cell York
Danny the DNA lived with Mack the mRNA in the nucleus of Cell York, they were brothers,
after all. Danny was always a stay at home molecule, while Mack was always interacting with
others, especially his coworkers Tony the tRNA and Rick the rRNA. Even though Danny looked
lazy, he always was the center of attention within the nucleic brothers. Everyone made up stories
of how he did all the work in the nucleus, while Mack apparently did little to nothing and, before
the evolution of Cell York, this was true. The main job the nucleic brothers has were to code and
send information to the ribosomes in order to make proteins for Cell York businesses. Before
the evolution, Danny coded and sent the information to make proteins, while Mack was only a
cheerleader on the side. However, when Danny had a break from delivering, he stayed in bed all
day on his laptop, only coding what he needed to do. He soon never left the house, all his
necessities were in the nucleus. As time went on, Danny grew larger than he used to be, and less
active. His double helixes doubled in size, as well as his bases. Now that the break is over, Danny
will have to go back to his job, but with great difficulty. Hey Dan, your break is over, you need to
send all those codes! Mack yelled as he prepared Danny s supplies. But I don t want to! Danny
whined, let the other guy do his job, and went back to sleep. That guy is gone now, it s your job to
deliver codes now! Mack became frustrated and kept on

5. Gender Inequality In Gender
Changing the Mindset
Women have been fighting for equal rights and opportunities since the beginning of time. In the
year of 2017 it finally seems as though women finally are receiving these equal opportunities.
With movements such as women s suffrage, although long ago, have helped to advance women
in places such as the workplace. A big issue with some women nowadays is the wage gap. The
problem is not that women are not being paid the same as men in the same positions. It is that
men are in higher up positions such as CEOs and grossing more than women. Therefore, the issue
is not that there are no equal opportunities for women, it is more of a mindset. Women in 2017, as
far as the workplace goes, can achieve anything a man can. It comes back to how we are raised and
the current mindsets of Americans. In the United States based upon gender there is now equal
opportunity, it is just a matter of whether these opportunities will be ceased.
More times than less when growing up people believe and resemble their parents. Growing up
Americans have ideas and beliefs instilled in them from their parents. There is a huge difference
growing up as a male than a female. Men growing up are told to shoot for the stars and be a
business CEO or doctor where as women are more geared towards being a model or nurse. A big
part of what goes into inequality in gender is more of a stigma than anything. If we can change the
way children are raised, we can change how women can cease these

enowned books that embrace Goth sub culture is Re imagining of the vampire of 1976, which
was written by Anne Rice (Jung, and Lee 2014, pg22). Rice portrays the characters in her book as
people who torment themselves, struggle with alienation, and are always lonely. Moreover, the
characters in Rice s work portray the world that is surreal and focuses on uncovering the splendor of
it. Notably, the attitudes of the characters are Gothic. The post modern literature by Rice which is
mostly Vampire novels demonstrates intense emotions, a presence of periodic clothing and the
decay of culture (Fauquet Alekhine 2016, pg9). The vampires in Rice s literature are monsters who

However, the assumption made was based on the self profession of love to Goth sub culture by
the involved gunman Kimveer Singh Gill (Jung, and Lee 2014, pg23). According to the media,
the use of the term Goth by Gill in his writings referred to an alternative industrial or a Goth sub
culture, as opposed to alluding to the music of, Gothic rock style (Tosh 2015, pg 17). Notably,
Gill committed suicide after he executed the gun attack and wrote an online journal, where he
openly talked about being sick of listening to people making jokes along with preps that make
the life of Goths hard, along with other people who appear as different from the majority
(Fauquet Alekhine 2016, pg10). Furthermore, Gill termed himself as an angel of death and also
bragged that metal along with Goth is the ones that kick ass (Tosh 2015, pg 17). However, the
claims were later disputed by Mick Mercer, who talked of Gill as a person who strongly listened
purely to metal music (Jung, and Lee 2014,

they had learned in ways they hadn t before. The authors found that 98 percent of students
interviewed learned new things while participating in their co op placements. Only 52 percent of
students interviewed shared that they have used the skills they have learned and incorporated them
in their classroom, the authors proposed various reasons why this number was low, including the
fact that students simply may not be aware that they are relating the co op experience back to the
classroom. The survey found that 96 percent of students shared that they have emulated what they
have learned and were able to connect the academic programming at Northeastern University with
the real life experience through the co op. While three of the goals have great response, the authors
are researching why the third is much lower. The authors plan to update the course that students

9. The Importance Of Being A Conservative Role Model
Why am I proud to be a conservative woman? I am proud because I believe conservative is so
much more than just a word. I looked up the definition, and it said that to be conservative is to
hold to traditional values and ideas, and cautious about change and innovation. I believe that the
founding fathers would have wanted us to stick to their ideals. They built this country on a
democracy, one which has both thrived and failed at times. I tend to be cautious about change
myself, since I have had some difficult changes in my life. Therefore, my conservative role models
are my mother, Sarah Palin, and Phyllis Schlafly. I lovemy mother, obviously due to the fact that

They helped me understand why conservatism is so important to America. My mother has lead
by example, and I do not know where I would be now without her. Sarah Palin is a role model to
me since she was the first woman to be a governor of Alaska in 2006. She was also the first
female to run on the Republican ticket, as McCain s vice president. Palin was able to cut Alaska
s spending by ten percent, which is amazing for one term; obviously, she is fabulous with money,
and that is another quality I admire. Third, I admire Phyllis Schlafly for all the work she did for
our great country. I admire her more on a personal level, since she defended our religious rights. I
am a proud Southern Baptist, and she defended the country from the Equal Rights Amendment,
which includes several actions Christians do not believe are acceptable. Singlehandedly, she
prevented the bill from getting passed, so there was no abortion, even though Roe versus Wade
came years later and it became legal. She believed that the Equal Rights Amendment would
eventually allow same sex marriages to occur, and be legal. As time went on, she turned out to be

10. Case Study Adverse Possession
Adverse Possession
The doctrine of adverse possession obligates the title holder of land to eject, within a statutorily
prescribed period, a wrongful possessor of the land. Provided certain other elements are satisfied,
a title holder who fails this obligation will lose title to the land in question to the adverse
possessor. (Adverse Possession of, n.d.). There are four elements that must be satisfied for property
to be held adversely. First, the possession must be actual and exclusive. The possessor must take
sole physical occupancy of the property. In this case, the possession of the gazebo was exclusively
hers.
The next element is that the possession must be open, visible, and notorious. Danny could see
that Lisa had possession of the gazebo since she was not being secret or clandestine. Lisa built the
fence between her and Danny s yard so she had the gazebo on her land for all the world to see.
Third element of adverse possession is that the possession must be continuous and peaceable for the
required period of time. Assuming that the state in question has an adverse ... Show more content on

without the permission of the owner. With this scenario, Lisa has a great case to claim adverse

Since Danny knows where his boundaries of his property is from the survey, he would be able
to prove encroachment. An encroachment is when another person puts up a structure that
intrudes on (or over) your land . (Find Law, n.d.). There are several possible remedies for
encroachment that Danny could use. He could just talk to Lisa. The gazebo and fence could be
moved to satisfy both parties. This would save Danny and Lisa both the legal fees of the eviction
suit. Danny could sell Lisa the land that the gazebo and fence is on, giving Danny the money for

11. Bruce Springsteen s Tunnel Of Love
Tunnel of Love is unlike any other album that Bruce Springsteen has written. This was an album
full of love songs, songs about the ups, downs, trust and loyalty that come with being in a
relationship. The Tunnel of love album is drastically different from the previous Nebraska and
Born in the U.S.A.; those two albums both talked about the struggles and hardships of the working
class, a motif that does not appear in Tunnel of Love. The beat of this album differs greatly from
that of Born in the U.S.A. this album isn t as up beat and fun, instead the album is more down beat
and sounds somewhat sad.
This album as a whole shows us that when someone doesn t understand himself/herself it can hurt
his or her relationship, and lead to unfaithfulness. Springsteen refers to marriage in the songs Walk
like a Man , Cautious Man , and Spare Parts . Cautious Man is a song about a man who enjoyed
his life of solitude and wandering, and always chose the life he was used to over love until one day
when a woman caught his attention. He fell in love, and married her soon after meeting her. Bruce
Springsteen married American model Julianne Phillips in 1985, after the release of Tunnel of
Love. On the album, many of the songs described his unhappiness in the relationship with Phillips,
and in 1989 (two years after the release of Tunnel of Love) they got a divorce. Although Bruce
Springsteen denies this, many people, including myself, believe that Cautious Man is an
autobiographical

13. Evolutionary Psychology In Modern Society
The lecture this week started with the progress of society. Darwin noted that in a society,
competition is need to weed out the weak, also known as survival of the fittest. In the modern
society of humans, there is support that is provided for a wide range of differences among all
members, so there is little need to apply survival of the fittest to modern society. One man argued
against this, and he believed that we should moved towards a utopian state in society where no
person has any problems, even if that were to mean losing people along the way. Galton, interested
in heredity, noted that certain humans had this eminent characteristic, and discovered that eminent
people are typically related to other eminent people. This pushed him to believe that perhaps
intelligence is hereditary. If intelligence could be hereditary, then wealth... Show more content on

They noticed how biology is a very scientific that relies on evolution because without evolution,
biology doesn t make much sense. So, psychologists wanted to try applying evolution to psychology
. Evolutionary psychology looks at typical problems and sees if these problems have evolved as
humans evolved. Evolutionary psychology also spends a lot of time looking at how human aspects
play a role in society. Evolutionary psychologists believe that certain instincts are present in humans
because of natural selection. People have certain modules that are needed for certain tasks and
handling problems. Neuroimaging showed how certain areas of the brain light up when the
individual solves certain problems. But, evolutionary psychologist do not say something is innate

Exploring the Factors Contributing to the Development of the Cold War There were several factors

Disagreement over how Poland should be governed was a very important factor in the development

This clash of ideas was important as it harmed the relation between the countries, and therefore
led to a Cold War developing. The British and the Americans were also horrified by Russia s
behaviour regarding the Warsaw uprising. When the London Poles (the anti Soviet potential
government) decided to seize control of part of Poland, the Soviet army did nothing to help them
although they were very close. As a result, it was brutally destroyed by the Germans and almost
300,000 Poles were killed in the process. Again, this harmed the relation between Britain and
America and the USSR. At Yalta, they tried to resolve the problems concerning the government of
Poland and Polish land. The borders of Poland were altered without too much problem and it was
agreed that the Lublin government in Poland was to be expanded to include some London Poles as
well and that free elections would be held as soon as possible. However, this was not put into
practice; Stalin only talked about bringing non communists into Poland without carrying it out and
Molotov, the Foreign Minister rejected the idea of letting the London Poles have a significant role
in the government. This led to extreme disappointment because people had thought that Stalin
would allow western style governments to be set up in Eastern Europe and it also meant that people

16. Leadership In We Were Soldiers And Gettysburg
The application of leadership is not solely determined by a leader s experience, personal traits, or
characteristics but the understanding of the situation the leader is in. Situational leadership must
take all factors which can influence their decision into the formulation of the appropriate response
necessary. I have chosen the movies We Were Soldiers and Gettysburg to analyze the similarities
and differences of leadershipstyles and how they were applied The movie Gettysburg was written
and directed by Ronald F. Maxwell and premiered in 1993 with Stephen Lang playing George E.
Pickett.1 This movie is about the lead up, planning, trials and tribulations, strategies, successes
and failures that leads to one of the most decisive battles in the Civil War The Battle of

is to show compassion and understanding for your Soldiers since they will execute your

train as LTC Moore did prior to deployment, then the time it took to readjust Soldiers on the
battlefield, and the time to make a decisive decision for the organization such as LTC Moore

17. Effects Of Production Stoppage On Ford Motor s Single...
Risk #1: Losses caused by production stoppage in Ford Motor s single source suppliers Risk
Description Although single sourcing can create an efficient, low cost supply chain model for
many top manufacturers like Ford, dependence on a single source can also end up being quite
costly for a company. If one of Ford s single suppliers halts production on any key component for
any reason, there will be adverse effects. As Ford reported in their 2014 annual 10 K filing, many
of the components in their vehicles cannot be re sourced quickly or inexpensively to another
supplier because of long lead times and new contractual arrangements that the new supplier must
follow (Ford Motor Co.). Ford has had complications with this particular risk in the past. In 1998,
faulty software in a German supplier of door and trunk latches halted production in several of their
factories. After a three day halt in Ford Fiestas and Pumas, it is estimated that the difficulties cost
Ford up to 7,000 vehicles (Professional Engineering). Another example of the severity of the risk
occurred several months prior to the 1998 Ford incident. Week long national strikes in Denmark
froze Saab s supplier production of key engine parts. The halt in production left Saab without engine
mounts for its newly launched vehicles. Ultimately, 4,250 factory workers were sent home at an
approximate cost of $90,000,000 (inflation adjusted) (Professional Engineering). This has been a
recurring problem in large manufacturers

Since animals, usually pets, are sometimes an essential part of one s life, it is not surprising that
we find frequent references to its role in works of social realism, such as Wislawa Szymborska s
Poems New and Collected and Milan Kundera s Unbearable Lightness of Being. Animals in
literature could be used to symbolize all sorts of things, but in particular, animals may represent the
personality of a character. This is because as humans and animals co exist in the same atmosphere,
certain aspects of a character reveal themselves in the compassion or even hatred towards the
animal. Since animals are often known to trigger the interests of humans, the attitude of the humans
towards the animals contributes much to character revelation. Both... Show more content on

A life that never ends?
He d turn his ruddy rump as if to say
Such life he neither bans nor recommends
We can see the monkey as a god now, a figure that even has power to give life that never ends, such
a contrast after the total mistreatment, above. We see how the animals determine human
characteristics: either overly mistreating, or overly obsessed.
In the poem, Cat in an empty apartment, Szymborska again criticizes the uncaring characteristic of
humans and the role of animals in the poem as a mere irritation or a vexation.
Die В– you can t do that to a cat
Since what can a cat do in an empty apartment?

From this we can perceive that animals in Szymborska s poems serve to prove that in their co
existence with humans, they are treated unfairly and the human characteristics of cruel superiority
over animals are evident in the works.

Not Taken, Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening, and A Poison Tree, Frost and Wordsworth
use the shallow image of a flowerand the woods to symbolize a change of emotion and thought in
one s life. Two roads diverging in different directions lead to an unknown destination because no
one knows where the paths will take them. The two paths in the woods are symbolic for there
being many choices in life. The speaker also depicts the two paths with leaves covering both
equally, which shows that both are mysterious and lead to somewhere unknown to the person
traveling it. Also, that no matter what choice is made do not look back, but to keep moving
forward. For example in the poem the speaker says, I took the one less traveled by, and that has
made all the difference. (536) it depicts that the person is picking the path not commonly chosen
by others even if it does not lead to good things. It may be much more difficult, and although it is
going against everyone it has set the speaker apart from others. The woods are used as a symbol
of a passage to temptation and darkness in the poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening .
It is also described as a place of glamour that has diverted the speaker from fulfilling the promise.
The poem uses the horse with the bell attached to it as a

22. Windows Xp Architecture Vs. Mac Os X Architecture Essay...
Windows XP vs. Mac OS X Architecture
When looking at the interface of the Mac OS X Operating System and the Microsoft Windows XP
operating system many similarities can be seen. The most obvious is the use of blue in the
interface. In the core of the systems they both have a micro kernel which addresses thread
management, space management and other communications at the system level and is more
resistant to attacks from a virus.
Mac OS X is a powerful development platform; it supports multiple development technologies like
UNIX, Java, Cocoa and Carbon. It also is host to many open source, web, scripting, database and
development technologies. It was build around the integrated stack of graphics and media
technologies such as QuickTime, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the Aqua user interface, Apple also built in Pre emptive multitasking and memory
protection to improve the ability of the operating system to run multiple applications simultaneously
without interrupting or corrupting each other. The system can also determine how much RAM
should be used for each running application and it can also determine how much of the processor
needs to be devoted to the running applications. For example if a picture is being rendered in
Photoshop in the background and a user is surfing the web in the foreground, the system will
automatically put more of the processors power to the Photoshop application to get the requested
job done.
Apple also wants as many developers as it can get for the Operating System; therefore they have
created development tools that are included with every copy of the system. One of the most
notable programs that is included is called Xcode. Xcode provides interfaces to compilers that
support several programming languages such as C, C++ and Java. Because Apple is also in a
transition from the PowerPC RISC processor to the Intel X86 processor the Xcode application can
compile code for either or both processors, making the compiled application a Universal Binary
application.

23. European Honey Bee Affect Australia s Biodiversity
How has the introduction of the European honey bee by humans to Australia s various wide
ecosystems impacted Australia s biodiversity?
THE EUROPEAN HONEY BEE
The European honey bee (or western honey bee, Apis Mellifera) is a species of bee that naturally
occurs in Europe, but has been introduced by humans to a variety of foreign ecosystems, including
Australia and New Zealand. It is of ecological importance because of the effect that this introduced
species has on the biodiversity of native wildlife, in particular native bees, hollow nesting native
birds and mammals, honeyeater birds and native flora.
Of particular interest is the fact that, despite the risk to native fauna and flora, honey produced by
the European honey bee is a major industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition for floral resources
The European honey bee interacts with a wide diversity of flora (over 200) and native Australian
fauna, especially through the sharing of floral resources. These interactions can be harmful to
threatened species if the resources are limited, and due to the degree of how much the honey bee
consumes, relative to the other species.
Honey bees may account for more than half of insects using the flowers of many plant species,
meaning honey bees could remove a large share of the floral resources from Australian plants (and
so compete with native flower visiting fauna). European honey bees remove up to 80% of floral
resources produced from Australian native plants.
Taking southern parts of South Australia as an example, honeybees have been recorded visiting
over 180 native plant species (approximately half of all plant species examined in this time). These
plants ranged from small herbs to large trees and included plants that used wind, insects, birds and
mammals for their pollination.
Another example is the kwongan sandplain areas of WA. Honey bees were recorded visiting 136
native plant species, which accounted for over 30% of the 413 plant species in the

Bull tattoos are symbolic of masculinity as far as the Samoans are concerned. Samoa s rich history
and cultural diversity has ensured that the art of tattooing, first introduced more than two thousand
years ago in Samoa, has burgeoned into a global movement! Tatau, the Samoan word for tattoo,
portrays correctness and workmanlike traits. These two traits have led to the concept of tattoos
being masculine, and bull tattoos, more so! Apart of its rich cultural magnificence, why should one
give attention to the various vagaries of the Samoans? And what do they have to do with the
concept of bull tattoos?
Did you know that one of the most famous wrestlers of our times, Dwayne Johnson alias The
Rock, is a Samoan who can trace his ancestry back to the Polynesian island of Samoa? The Rock

25. Ethical And Scientific Considerations Regarding Animal...
Ethical and Scientific Considerations Regarding Animal Testing and Research According to The
Principles of Humane Experimental Technique, published by William Russell and Rex Burch in
1959, there are 3 important principles when it comes to animal testing and research. These
principles: reduction, refinement, and replacement are typically known as the 3 R s. Reduction is
meant to minimize the number of animal used in experimental procedures, refinement aims to limit
the animal s exposure to pain, and replacement is designed to use non animal options whenever
possible. While the problem with animal testingis constantly brought to people s attention, the
number of animals used for research is still increasing to this day. It is questionable whether these
principles sufficiently reflect the development in our knowledge about animals and their emotional
capabilities, the interest of these animals, or the harm that corresponds. It also raises serious
questions about the success rate of the predicted outcomes of animal testing. Concerns about human
and animal use in research began in the late 1800s; throughout this time, there was a series of
medical experiments performed by the Nazi German leaders on prisoners during World War II, as
well as the Tuskegee syphilis study. Reports of abuse from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

27. The Effects Of Performing Local Pwht And Considerations
CHAPTER 1
Literature and Previous Work
Introduction and Related Research
There is a common practice to perform post weld heat treatment when performing alterations or
repairs to pressure vessels that have been stress relived prior to being commissioned. This
research paper is the study of the consequences of performing local PWHT and considerations
that need to be taken when determining what type of stress relieving is to be performed to meet
code requirements. Post weld heat treatment is an effective way to minimize weld residual
stresses in pressure vessels and piping equipment. PWHT is a required for carbon steels above a
code defined thickness threshold and other lo allow steels to mitigate the propensity for crack
initiation and ultimately, brittle fracture, and is often employed to mitigate stress corrosion
cracking due to environmental conditions. Performing local PWHT following component repairs
or alterations is often more practical and cost effective than heat treating an entire vessel or a
large portion of the pressure boundary. Spot or bulls eye configurations are often employed in
industry to perform PWHT following local weld repairs to regions of the pressure boundary. Both
the ASME Boiler and Pressure vessel code and the National Board inspection code permit the use
of local PWHT around nozzles or other pressure boundary repairs or alterations. Additionally,
welding research council bulletin 452 offers detailed guidance relating to local PWHT and

28. Theme Of Forgiveness In The Kite Runner
Some Title I ll Have To Come Up With Later
Forgiveness and redemption make up considerable parts of our lives, as we all make mistakes.
For some of these mistakes, we need to atone ourselves, and gain forgiveness of either ourselves or
another individual. Many times, we make big decisions based receiving forgiveness on the past
mistakes we have made. This theme of forgiveness and atonement is also conveyed in the Kite
Runner written by Khaled Hosseini. Forgiveness and atonement is a significant theme throughout
the Kite Runner because it causes many of the major events in the story, which is illustrated when
characters do certain actions or make decisions driven by the possibility of atonement or
forgiveness.
The theme of forgiveness is shown from the very beginning of the story, when Amir tries to gain
the respect and love for his father. Baba is characterized as a strong, righteous, and respected
character, where Amir is portrayed as the exact opposite. Baba, as a result seems to be
disappointed in Amir for this, and seems not to regard Amir very highly in his interactions with
him. Amir as a result wanted Baba all to [himself]. And besides, one time at Gharga Lake, Hassan
and [him were] skimming stones and Hassan made his stone skip eight times. The most [he]
managed was five. Baba was there, watching, and he patted Hassan on the back. Even put his arm
around his shoulder. This quote sets the stage for the novel, and reveals how he feels inferior to
Hassan. Throughout

30. I Am An Architect With The Valley Civilization
I am an Architect with some handsome professional experience in my field. Running as a thread
through different things I realized that Architecture is not just designing healthy buildings; it is a
connection between the individual buildings to emotional infrastructure like our parks, our roads,
public buildings, walkways and many more. From the beginning, I was very much interested in
understanding the relationship between urban form and trust. As I believe that the way we design
our cities has a strong effect how we behave with other people and it make us generous or mean.
When I studied about Indus Valley Civilization in History of Architecture , I was amazed to know
that the people of this Indus Valley civilizationdid not build massive monuments like their
contemporaries, nor did they bury riches among their dead in golden tombs. There were no
mummies, no emperors, and no violent wars or bloody battles in their territory. Remarkably, the
lack of all these is what makes the Indus Valley civilization so exciting and unique. While others
civilizations were devoting huge amounts of time and resources to the rich, the supernatural, and
the dead, Indus Valley inhabitants were taking a practical approach to supporting the common,
secular, living people. Sure, they believed in an afterlife and employed a system of social
divisions. But they also believed resources were more valuable in circulation among the living than

In this great city of New Orleans, we have so many extravagant elements that distinguishes us from

this city s history. The different historical statues we have scattered about the city also cause major
attractions and either people love or hate them. Lately, four specific statues have been getting a lot
of attention around town from not only the citizens, but from our very own mayor, Mitch Landrieu.
Two of the four statues are the Robert E. LeeMonument in the center of Lee Circle and the P.G.T
Beauregard Statue on City Park Ave. The mayor feels the statues should be removed not only
because of their confederate backgrounds, but because they don t have anything to do with the

Suicide, the reason what teens use to get away from life, caused by depression and other mental

someone. This brings down the self efficacy, self esteem, and self confidence. There are three steps
to prevent suicide, which might decrease the risk of suicide from happening. This might give you a
clear idea to help prevent a friend, family member, or anyone from committing suicide.
Self Efficacy
Many of us had been though a couple of rough times and some pretty amazing ones as well.
Difficult times for most people can take away their energy, taken away emotions, and break a
person s spirit. The good times on the other hand can lift someone s spirit up, boost their self esteem

dimensions of health mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellness. These effects tell people to
feel good about themselves, help them control their social anxiety, and maintain a positive lookout
on life.
Healthy vs Unhealthy People with an unhealthy mental mind can be extremely dangerous, or just
plain terrible, they would respond with an irrational response. Whereas, healthy people respond
with a more positive, a better outlook on life. A healthy mind has a good attitude, value, beliefs, and

Industrialization, Economics, and the Environment Human technological advancements make it
possible to sustain larger and larger population by exploiting more and more natural resources. The
three revolutions in human history, agricultural, industrial and green have all been answers to
overpopulation. Naturally, industrialization leads to environmental degradation. The concern with
Industrialization is that it is not a long term solution to human sustainability, since it operates under
the premise of the tech fix, or the idea that humans will be able to invent new technologies to ensure
their own survival. These solutions, while economically advantageous, do not consider the long

Over the period of the last two centuries, the curve of human population growth has departed from
the normal S shape because of man s ability to alter his environment. With fixed environmental
limits the population curve will follow an S shape like curve B in our figure. (Dolan 58) If humans
have not taken it upon themselves to manipulate nature, the population would not have risen to
where it is now. However, if one subscribes to the Gaia Hypothesis, which views earth a self
regulating organism with a certain threshold for abuse, there is the possibility that we could exhaust
the technological possibilities for further raising the population ceiling (Dolan 59). The result
would be what we have been trying to prevent all along, and mass starvation would ensue, thus
fulfilling the Malthusian Scenario. However, at the present time, the only solution to
overpopulation, industrialization is only a tech fix. Overpopulation itself is the result of a lack of
long term vision, so it is not surprising that the technologies adopted to alleviate the consequences
will follow the pattern of short term solution, of repairing damage that has been done instead of
enforcing preventative measures. The short term economic growth of the economy, due to food,

Introduction:
Diversification and adapting to internationalisation is a way to survive in a competitive business
environment and is well researched and adopted in the business world. It is possibly the most
logical and secure way for companies to avoid that their share of a given market will not be taken
over by other competitors when they try to diversify technologically, geographically or product
wise. It also helps reduce the risk by spreading it into different markets. There are many assorted
works written about diversification and internationalisation in order to theoretically envisage the
optimal level of diversification for international markets that generates the highest growth rate with
a minimum level of risk.

Stacey Dale, an economist at Princeton University, states the difference between the students
who went to super selective colleges and those with similar SAT scores that were rejected from

The data reported here represents the individual student as responsible for their career success
rather than where they attend college. Two of Harvard s most famous alumni, Mark Zuckerberg

student will become as rich and powerful as Gates and Zuckerberg, this shows the person, not

highlights the fact that the institution must reform itself in order to attract top students. This
lack of a need also hurts the Ivy League brand . The Ivy League presents itself as a set of

the number of executives at Fortune 100 companies with Ivy League undergraduate dropping from

38. Theme Of Following One s Dream In The Alchemist
The Idea of Following One s Dream as Presented in Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist Many say that
the pen is mightier than the sword, but what is often overlooked is the sheer amount of influence
that words can have. However, in order to spread one s ideas through speech with the capacity to
impact the lives of individuals and the world itself, one must be skilled in doing so. At a glance, it
is clear for one to see that Paulo Coelhos The Alchemist defines itself as a thought provoking novel
which explores its central theme in a comprehensive manner with the help of dialogue between its
characters. In essence, Coelho s extensive use of dialogue in The Alchemist effectively expresses
the novel s fundamental theme that one s desire to follow one s dreamis not only vital to living life
to the fullest of its potential but it is also considered an individual s destiny. The author utilizes
dialogue between characters such as the alchemist, the old gypsy woman and Santiago, in order to
fully convey the theme.
Firstly, one of the most repetitive yet critical methods in which the author models the theme of the
necessity to follow one s dream, is through religion. Sufis in Western Society: Global Networking

Sufi poetry. During many instance in the novel, characters mention a so called universal language .

Abstract Ben Whishaw once said, The criminal justice system, like any system designed by human
beings, clearly has its flaws. For many years, the criminal justice system has been criticized for its
many problems and errors; one in particular that caught my attention was the mandatory minimum
sentencing laws. These laws basically set minimum sentences for certain crimes that judges cannot
lower, even for extenuating circumstances. The most common of these laws deal with drug offenses
and set mandatory minimum sentences for possession of a drug over a certain amount. Sentencing
procedures can vary from jurisdiction to Jurisdiction. Most of these laws are ineffective and causes

found a marijuana growing operation there during a search in 2013. Alabama Chief Justice Roy
Moore released a statement on this case as the Supreme Court refused to overturn the case. I
mean really, this is just crazy how a petty drug offense can get a man life in prison and some
other fool is let off easy, after committing an armed robbery. The problem with LSD specifically
is that it comes in many forms. For instance, if a person is holding 1 hit of liquid LSD that is
placed on a strawberry can get up to 10 years in jail whereas another person with 100 hits of acid
in paper form may not even get a mandatory sentence if it weighs under a gram. The whole point
behind the legislation comes in response to the American public s desire to crack down on those
who sell drugs. According to The USCC (U.S. Sentencing Commission), fifty five percent of all
federal drug defendants are low level offenders, such as mules or street dealers.

Wright recalls ВЁwatching the white people eat would make [his] stomach churn and [he]
would grow vaguely angryВЁ (Wright 19). This scene in the novel serves as a very significant
turning point in Wright s young mind, he is confronted with the reality that whites and blacks
are blatantly segregated and are entitled to completely different things. Going into Wright s later
years he has found a solace in literature, he constantly has a desire to read due to the fact that
doing so satisfies his intellectual desires. Wright has recently convinced a white coworker to let
him use a library card under his name to borrow books from the library. His desire to read
became exceedingly prevalent, ВЁit surged up again and [he] hungered for books, new ways of
looking and seeingВЁ (Wright 249). Wright has now been exposed to the severity of racial
deviation and it has become an extremely captivating topic for his developing mind. He alleviates
his intellectual famine by reading many different novels, many focused racial topics. Throughout
the entire novel, Wright finds himself

41. Retention In Healthcare
Recruitment, Selection, and Retention The amount of Healthcare employees in the United states is
expected to continue to change dramatically in the upcoming years. The generation known as the
Baby Boomers are retired or heading towards retirement. The first set in this generation was born
in 1946 and became entitled in 2008 for retirement which lead to a 11 percent decrease in the
workforce. This decrease lead to an inadequate supply of replacement workers to fill the gaps so in
2015 twenty percent of the labor force was aged 55 and older (Valerie Dreachslin, 2007). This
change has caused healthcare organizations to adopt changes that promote recruitment, selection,
and retention. Recruitment refers to how an organization attracts... Show more content on

An initial step in the process is finding where qualified applicants are located also known as
applicant sourcing. An organization must decide if they want to recruit employees internally or
externally. Internal recruitment can be beneficial because candidates are generally known by the
organization and it may also build morale because it shows that there are always opportunities for
advancement but it could also lead to the Peter principle which happens when successful
employees continue to be promoted until they reach a position above their level of competence.
Internal recruitment also may cause a ripple effect to occur when one person moves up the ladder
it leaves another vacancy, that is then filled by another internal employee that in turn causes
another vacancy. An advantage of external recruitment is that the new employee might bring new
ideas to the organization and they can target applicants with the skills needed then settling for a
internal employee who may lack some of the skills. On another note, external recruitment can be
negative because it is costlier to hire a new employee, conduct a drug screen, provide training, and
it also takes a new employee more time to get to know the organization. Recruitment is followed
by selecting the right person from the applicants known as selection. Selection is a tricky task.
They must carefully decide which applicant will have the most likely chance of success. The
organization strives to

The Elephant Shrew
The Elephant Shrew is a type of shrew native to Africa. Their order is Macroscelidea and their
family is Macroscelididae. They have scaly tails and elongated snouts which gives them their
resemblance to elephants. Their legs, which are long for their size, are used for hopping around,
much like a rabbit. They use their noses and snouts to find prey such as spider, centipedes,
millipedes, earthworms, and insects.

As part of its customary investigation of prospective borrowers, Investec Bank sent inquiries
concerning Govan to a number of firms that had business dealings with him. The manager of
one of his large suppliers, the CaterTech Company, wrote in answer: The conservative operation
of his business appeals to us. He has not wasted his money in disproportionate investments. His
operating expenses are as low as they could possibly be. He has personal control over every
feature of his business, and he possesses sound judgement and a willingness to work harder than

the other trade letters received by the bank bore out this opinion. In addition to the ownership of

44. A Duty Fixed By Civil Law
It has long been established that a tort occurs where there is breach of a general duty fixed by
civil law . The branch of law we know as negligence has been in development since the
establishment of a duty of care for one s neighbour in Donoghue v Stevenson . In that case, Lord
Atkin laid down general principles whereby a person would owe another a duty of care, the most
important being you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which you can
reasonably foresee would be likely to injure your neighbour . This principle has been refined on a
number of occasions and the current approach for establishing a duty of care is typified in Caparo
Industries plc v Dickman . Following Donoghue, a variety of cases came before the... Show more

those where a claimant has suffered financial damage but has incurred no personal injury or
damage to property . It is arguable that other losses which result from tort could possibly be
described as economic loss; however, the true definition of economic loss involves someone
who has suffered financial damage that does not result from personal injury or damage to
property. In Spartan Steel Alloys Ltd v Martin Co (Contractors) Ltd , the defendants were
negligent in cutting an electric cable, which then resulted in a 14 hour power cut in the area.
This affected a number of properties including the claimant s factory. With no power available to
heat the claimant s furnace in his factory, the metal there solidified and was ruined. The claimant
was also required to shut his factory temporarily. Civil litigation was initiated by the claimant for
damage to ruined metal (which constituted physical damage to property), loss of the profit that
would have been made had that metal been sold (labelled as economic loss arising from damage
to property) and loss of profit the factory would have made had it not been forced to close (pure
economic loss). A majority of the Court of Appeal held that only the first two heads of claim
were recoverable. The defendant owed a duty of care to the claimant not to damage their property
but no duty of care was owed with regard to loss of profit. It was found that it was

A critical evaluation of whether mental illness has an inherent link to violent behaviour
This essay will aim to explore whether mental illness has an inherent link to violent behaviour.
Specifically it will critically evaluate the literature surrounding this contention. A definition of both
mental illness and Violence will be offered before outlining the conflicting understanding regarding
the inherent link. The essay will conclude that the issue of an inherent link between mental illness
and violence is a complex one. That when controlling for substance use and other factors such as
gender, age, race/ethnicity, individual and neighbourhood socio economic status (SES), physical
and sexual abuse, stressful life events, impaired social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition the variety of influencing factors, such as childhood experience and victimisation also
adds to the debate as they are identified risk factors for violence alone.
However these findings could be viewed differently when observing the findings by Appelbaum et
al (2000) who found that if symptoms of substance abuse are excluded, no significant difference
exists in the prevalence of violence between discharged psychiatric patients and community
controls. Interestingly, Steadman et al (2000) report no significant relation between psychosis
(with TCO symptoms) and violence which again, leaves the link between mental illness and
violence unclear. Similar to Appelbaum et al, Swanson et al (1990) reported substance abuse as a
more significant variable for risk of violence than any major mental disorders and Fulwiler et al
(1997) also found that substance abuse either alone or in combination with mental disorder
significantly increased the chances of violent behaviour. The MacArthur study also found no
increased in rate of violence in mentally ill patients compared to the general population if they were
not using illicit drugs or alcohol. And again, Wallace et al (2004) looked at the conviction rate of
patients with schizophrenia for over 25 years and compared it with a community sample, concluding
that substance abuse in schizophrenic patients increases their risk of criminal

Methods of Evangelism Paper
Part ONE Evangelistic Method #1
The Four Spiritual Laws is an intellectual method of evangelism, which, as it s title suggests,
identifies four spiritual laws that direct an individual s relationship with God. It was created by Dr.
Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, in 1952. The four laws, as sited on
CampusCrusade.com, are: (1) God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life. (2) Man is
sinful and separated from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God s love and plan for
his life. (3) Jesus Christ is God s only provision for man s sin. Through Him you can know and
experience God s love and plan for your life. (4) We must individually receive Jesus ... Show more

Further, this approach has disadvantages in that it omits the individual who is not in dire need.
Example, a rich, young entrepreneur who loves life and has minimal lack, may never come in
contact with the service based actions. This is critical in light of 2 Peter 3:9, which seems to
communicate that God is desirous for all humanity to come to Christ not merely those who are
experiencing emotional, financial, educational and physical lack.
Part THREE Evangelistic Method #3
The Way of the Master is a confrontational method of evangelism made popular by Evangelists
Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron of Living Waters. The approach uses the good person test and
asks are you a good person? That question is followed up with a series of questions like, Have you
ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? The questions correlate to the Ten Commandments
(Exodus 20:2 16). After going over the examination using two or three questions according to the
Ten Commandments, the person being confronted is reminded of their responses (and the
subsequent label that comes with it) and asked whether or not God will find them guilty on the
Day of Judgment and whether they would go to Heaven or Hell. Most often, a brief presentation
the Gospel message follows with a sincere encouragement to repent and trust the Savior.
An advantage to using this message is that it first uses the Law of God (Ten Commandments) to
convince one of the needs

47. The Importance Of The Metrocables
The original objective of creating the Metrocables was to fight poverty, unemployment, violence,
and crime in Medellin (Bea, 2016). Given that both poverty and unemployment have already been
discussed, the focus now turns to crime and security. In addition to the apparent changes made in
the commercial realm that have multiplied businesses and created jobs for the previously
unemployed, residents of these neighbourhoods have noticed changes made in terms of crime and
safety. As previously touched upon, up until the 1990 s, Medellin s history of violence led to the
lack of surveillance and safety in the cityas well as in the rural areas. Over time, the Metrocables
have had a positive impact on the crime and safety sector of Medellin. Those who reside in the
neighbourhoods around the Metrocables have noticed a decrease in incidence related to gang
warfare, crime, and violence since the implementation of these aerial cable cars (Agudelo, 2013).
Since the Metrocables are a relatively new form of urban mobility in these areas, security
measures have been taken via surveillance to ensure that this mode of transportation is benefitting
people and living up to its original intentions. With the arrival of the Metrocables came great
surveillance not only in the cable car stations but even in the close surrounding areas as well.
When commuters are traveling via Metrocables, they feel safe enough to carry cash in their pocket,
a feeling they do not have while using different forms of

48. Themes Of Gandhi In Hind Swaraj
Many of the themes explored by Gandhi in Hind Swaraj are directly or indirectly influenced by
these texts. I lay no claim to originality. They have been formed after reading several books. For
instance, Gandhi s explanation of colonialism is built upon Tolstoy s Letter to a Hindoo where he
argues that it is not the English who have enslaved the Indians, but the Indians who have enslaved
themselves. Similarly, an uncompromising critique of industrial culture, the hallmark of Gandhian
thought, is derived from Ruskin, Tolstoy and many other writers. Further, Maine s contention, that
Indians were inheritors of a civilizationthat had representative institutions but destroyed by the new
utilitarian state, was used by Gandhi to point out the superiority of... Show more content on

Eastern (mostly Indian) sources include major ancient religious texts, not necessarily Hindu (like
Gita, Tulsidas Ramayana etc.)
On the surface, Hind Swaraj is primarily a critique of modern civilization, a civilization only in
name . Critical commentators like Bhikhu Parekh and Raghavan Iyer perceive it in this way. Hind
Swaraj, as Tridip Suhrud sees it, is philosophically located at a fleeting, tantalizing moment in
human history when, out of the two modes of life and thought that were present simultaneously
modern and a modern (a modern was not anti modern) it was still possible to follow the latter or,
in other words, to conceive life outside the realm of the modern universe. It is this latter mode of
thought that forms the bedrock of Hind Swaraj because Gandhi believed that modern civilization
was built upon denial of a fundamental possibility, that of knowing oneself. By shifting the locus of
human endeavor to objects of bodily comfort,

49. The Importance Of Practicing The Right To The City
Practicing the Right to the City
Throughout the years, neighborhoods have developed in many different ways. One major change
can be seen by looking at the people residing in an area. Another way is by looking at the mode of
transportation used by people living in the neighborhood. In this paper, I will be critically analyzing
the neighborhood of Astoria, Queens in order to prove whether or not the people s rights to the city
is justified by city developments.
Astoria, formerly known as Hallett s Cove , is a culturally diverse neighborhood located in the

Census Bureau, ACS 2015). In 2010, it was reported that 64.5%, or 2, 195 people, of the population
of Astoria relied on public transportation. This dependence on the MTA increased in 2015 as 76.2%
of the total population reported that they used public transportation as their main mean of
transportation to work (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2015). This shows that people from these areas
spend more time travelling than the average commute time reported. Such information is crucial as
it allows people to see the importance of public transportation to different populations, but more
specifically, to those in living in Astoria, Queens.
Despite the mass utilization of the MTA Subway in New York, it appears that not everyone can be
fully accommodated by it. During the Community Board meeting 1 (Astoria, Queens), an issue

51. Achieving Inclusion In Education
Inclusion is the provision of strategies and resources to ensure all children are given the opportunity
to reach their full potential irrespective of ethnicity, religious belief, gender, sexual orientation or
disability (Dean, 2006; Department for Education (DfE), 2013). To attain inclusion, individuals
must be enabled to fully participate in mainstream activities and to be valued and accepted within
the schoolcommunity (Coyle, 2011). However, Barnard, Prior, and Potter (2000) acknowledge that
the process of inclusive educationcan prove challenging (Coyle, 2011; Simpson and De Boer,
2009; Humphrey, 2008).
Under the 1944 Education Act, children with special educational needs were arranged according
to their medical condition (House of Commons, 2006). Many children were considered to be
uneducable in mainstream settings and were considered to be mentally retarded , maladjusted or
sub normal (House of Commons, 2006). Pupils with SEN were often sent to special schools and
taught practical skills as an alternative to standard education (Bateman, Lloyd and Tankersley,
2015). The Warnock Report in 1978, followed by the 1981 Education Act, introduced the idea of
special educational needs (SEN), statements, and an inclusive approach to education (House of
Commons, 2006). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
