- Hi everyone, good afternoon. My name is Diogo Cunha, I am a trainee at Portic and I bring you today a short presentation about our association, which also took part in the organization of this event.
- We like to cal us a think-tank for the internationalization of Portuguese ICT companies. Our mission is to gather information about international strategic markets and its demands, We want to build an integrated portfolio of ICT Portuguese offer, and, most important of all, to raise exports to high potential markets. Dividing work, risk and results can result in higher strength for our associates.
- Our tipical yearly activity is all about the promotion of Portuguese companies abroad and their search for clients or partners. It consists in a mission to a target market, like the one we did to the region of Oresund in Sweden, which was an excelent gate for an high valuable market. Every year we host an international event that promotes the creation of joint ventures, investments and strategic alliances We help companies applying for internationalization funds and provide reports and press activities to our associates. We have also signed protocols with FEUP, InovaRia and Cluster 55º: the Business Roaming Agreement is a useful tool in internationalization processes.
- Our strategy is to promote our ICT Portfolio in target markets and then find key-players (both companies or clusters) that support our missions and facilitate the penetration of that market.
- Here are 5 reasons for the growth of international competitiveness: - Development of software solutions and services can be extremely complex - Quality is now a requirement, not an extra - Software customers want to pay less and less for their software - More and more companies outsource – offshore and nearshore - Geographical dispersion brings new cultural challenges
- In terms of certification, which is the subject that brought us all here today, we can ask the following question: can it bring us more profit? Well, if it helps to accomplish Schedule and budget, and certainly guarantees quality, I believe it is legitimate to say that the answer is yes. As for internationalization, it allows companies to enter new markets and, at the same time, embrace larger scale projects.
- Here we have a summary of 25 organization that adopted CMMI model. We can see that the productivity increased 67% and quality 50%, among other improvements. Note also that the return of the investment is almost 5 to 1.
- When there are no good processes or no processes at all, it means you have no guarantee that the best practices are being followed. The work remains largely dependent on the human factor and there is no responsibility for those not following the standards. Loss of management insight into development process can cause significant issues to be missed. Therefore, poor quality products reduce customer’s confidence that you can provide a high quality delivered product. So you’re likely to loose that customer’s business in future
- In this chart, we can see that by 2008 only 34% of IT project were Successfully concluded. It means that the scope, goals, and objectives were met, the project was completed on time, at or under the budget The rest of them were either Challenged - Meaning that at least one of the four previous conditions was not met – or failed projects
- Certification is the way of implementing efficient and effective processes, that generate scale results in a sustainable way. With certification comes quality and efficiency improvement, continuous growth and internationalization. Being certified allows access to competition, giving a third-party guarantee that you are following international best practices. Certification is an opportunity to promote PORTUGAL through the quality of its resources and innovation
