apidays LIVE Australia 2021 - Accelerating Digital
September 15 & 16, 2021
Why are some organisations slower than their competitors?
Liz Douglass, Partner & Andy Tam, Director at Deloitte
Presentation I gave on August 24th, 2011 in Bangkok at the ITARC Thailand 2011: Business Agility with Enterprise Architecture conference.
Intention is to refocus Architecture towards delivering customer value, talk a bit about where things stand today, and introduce the concept of Domain Context Interaction.
A great deal of this content comes from papers and podcasts published by James Coplien on the subject. The last slide has some useful references to follow up on.
DevOps is rapidly changing how teams work and increasing the pace of software creation. With a plethora of development, test automation, continuous integration and delivery, and security tools, where do you start? Is it best to throw out current processes and start over or build from software practices that already exist? In this webinar, Mitch Ashley, Managing Analyst with Accelerated Strategies Group, covers best practices and lessons learned when introducing DevOps software which increases the success of DevOps adoption and demonstrates the value DevOps brings to technology, product and business leaders.
In this webinar, we'll discuss:
Approaches to getting started based upon DevOps best practices.
Start over, ebuild or reuse existing software practices?
DevOps tooling and toolchain strategies leading to successful outcomes.
The fastest moving enterprises share one thing in common: They don’t let today’s technology slow down tomorrow’s innovations. With first-hand insights from Jeff Sutherland, technology innovation expert, this slideshow discusses:
- Overcoming legacy ERP and CRM system roadblocks
- Never building anything twice at your organization
- Creating a feedback culture to spur innovation

Microservices in cloud-based infrastructureGunnar Menzel
This white paper provides a detailed view of the impact microservices has on infrastructure; and examines how today’s infrastructure should be designed to support microservices.
DevOps has caught fire in the IT world in the last few years.
Not surprising as delivering faster has become a major
imperative especially with the increasingly digital world
and the convergence of internet, cloud, mobile, social and
analytics. Speed has become the new currency for IT
Presentation from IoT Solutions World Congress 2016 in Barcelona prepared and delivered by Lukasz Paciorkowski.
Abstract:
In this talk we will learn about two market leaders in two different industries - manufacturing and biopharma - how they used 2-speed IT to quickly capture market potential enabled by IoT. We will also look at benefits brought by moving from disconnected to smart enterprise, different IoT strategies and how to retain startup-like flexibility at the same time enabling market expansion on the global scale.
DevOps - The Future of Application Lifecycle Automation Gunnar Menzel
Development to Operations (DevOps) will have a profound impact on the global IT sector in the near future. Realizing DevOps’ full potential, IT vendors have been agile enough in providing new products and services under the label “DevOps inside”, at an ever- increasing pace. However, with the growth in product choices, conflicting definitions and competing services, customers often encounter confusion, while making complex purchase decisions. They often seem to be unsure about how to deploy DevOps and get the most out of the solution.
While not trying to delve deep into DevOps, the Whitepaper tries to answer the following key questions:
What is DevOps?
What is DevOps trying to achieve?
How will DevOps achieve this?
How best to make use of the new developments?
Its aim is to help the reader:
Understand the DevOps concepts
Understand its current value and restrictions

Open Source Stories From the Trenches - 6 Surprising Things Enterprises Can D...All Things Open
Presented by: Gilles Gravier
Presented at the All Things Open 2021
Raleigh, NC, USA
Raleigh Convention Center
Abstract: Open source has been around since the last century. Even before being called open source, it was originally called free software (as in freedom to run, study, hack, and share). Leadership teams of businesses today are facing extreme pressure from markets, competition, but also from the current pandemic that is radically changing the way we do business and engage with our customers. They need to adapt, imagine new revenue models, innovate as never before, and attract a new generation of talent that will fuel this evolution and create a future where they are relevant. Organizations large and small have started leveraging the benefits of open source to levels probably never imagined by the original inventors of the concept. Because open source is a way to develop software that inherently allows people from multiple locations, cultures, backgrounds, organizations, even motivations, to work together on common projects, organizations are doing surprising things with it. Let’s explore a few.

Do you speak “business” or “IT”? Perhaps you speak a little of both. In today’s connected world, where business and IT are fused, chances are that if you’re a business or IT executive, or someone working to transform a business, you speak a little of both.
But what if there was a “third” language? A common language that was natural for both “business” and “IT,” straightforward enough to use, yet sophisticated enough to work in today’s connected world? What if such a language only comprised a handful of words?
With such a language, the “loss in translation” between the business and IT would happen less, because both would be using the same language. With such a language, business outcomes and transformations would become much more achievable.
This book presents a new language of Information Systems for the 21st century.
How to choose tools for DevOps and Continuous Delivery - #doxlonMatthew Skelton
With an ever-increasing array of tools and technologies claiming to 'enable DevOps', how do we know which tools to try or to choose? In-house, open source, or commercial? Ruby or shell? Dedicated or plugins? It transpires that highly collaborative practices such as DevOps and Continuous Delivery require new ways of assessing tools and technologies in order to avoid creating new silos. Matthew Skelton shares his recent experience of helping many different organisations to evaluate and select tools to facilitate DevOps; the recommendations may surprise you.

The Big Three tech trends—mobility, cloud computing and the
Internet of Things—show that the world is truly going digital. As a
result, organizations need to begin operating at the speed of digital, especially if the business is to take advantage of real-time, alwayson connections within a data-rich environment.
Mobility in particular is at the heart of the digital customer
experience, with users increasingly spending more time with their
devices. And the mobile theme of always-on, always-available further increases the need for organizations to embrace truly agile approaches to development, expanding the definition of becoming quicker and more adaptive. Mobility also relies on an ecosystem of applications and systems to deliver desired, compelling customer experiences. It requires that front-end mobile apps as well as other applications in the ecosystem move at lightning speed.

Understand the What, Why & How of Digital Transformation Featuring 451 ResearchVMware Tanzu
Why did we hear so much about “Digital Transformation” in 2016, and frankly what does it mean? While it's easy to dismiss the phrase with an eye-roll, there's no better phrase to represent improving how IT is used to help drive business innovation...and the huge changes organizations must go through to be successful. This webinar with Nick Patience, Research Vice President for 451 Research's software team, and Michael Coté of Pivotal will discuss a pragmatic definition and approach to Digital Transformation as seen through the experiences of organizations who've lived through it.
Digital Transformation is about fundamentally rebuilding business and IT processes, not just about building apps. 451 Research defines Digital Transformation as “a result of IT innovation that is aligned with and driven by a well-planned business strategy, with the goal of transforming how organizations serve customers, employees and partners.” Some main features of a successful transformation include the ability to quickly react to market demands, and use information to make better decisions and serve constituents more effectively.
In this webinar Nick Patience of 451 Research and Pivotal’s Michael Cote will discuss:
- Why now is the time for Digital Transformation
- How the balance of power between customer and provider contributes to this new revolution
- Shifting priorities that require new practices and processes and the technical tools and platforms that support them
- Real-world examples of organizations that have been there (we’ll share all the gorey details, including what worked and didn't work for them)

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
