2. GAIN Geriatric Clinic
I had the opportunity to open up the GAIN (Geriatric Assessment and
Intervention Network) Clinic at the Scarborough Hospital. I was eagerly
recruited to help set up this new initiative. As unit clerk, I worked alongside
professionals of specific fields of Geriatric care such as Occupational
Therapists, Pharmacists, NPs and Social Workers. We were to create a “one-
stop-shop” for the maintenance of care for the elderly who have recently
had intensive or emergency care within our hospital.
The goal of this clinic was to see a decline in recurring visits from seniors
and to make sure that all aspects of their cognitive and physical health have
had attention and set up care plans. I was frontline for the clinic and
prepared the client charts and requisitions, created the schedules, ordered
supplies, created procedures and protocols, helped develop the scheduling
system, and became an integral part of establishing the new clinic. This
experience helped me utilize and develop many of my skills, such as
communication, team work, and ability to take initiative.

4. President of APICS
Centennial College Student Chapter
I have had the wonderful opportunity to become President of the
Centennial College Student Chapter of APICS. APICS is an Operations
Management association that offers seminars, training, certifications for
designations in the OM field and networking opportunities that are
proving to provide successful avenues for our Centennial students.
Thus far, we have reached over 35 members and have some great 'field
trips' planned for 2013 so that we may explore manufacturing plants
around Ontario in order to see the theories we learn then applied, and
make the right connections for future career considerations. I am very
proud of this initiative and have a very eager team of students willing to
put their time and effort into it, as they see the benefits to follow.

6. High Honours Student
I am very proud of my ability to maintain straight As
throughout my post-secondary career. I take my
projects, assignments, and exams very seriously and
believe that receiving such a designation would prove
to any future employer my ability to take initiative and
complete any given project to the best of my ability.
These grades reflect my flexibility to work alone as well
as in a team and still achieve the main objectives.

8. Public Speaking
I take every opportunity I can to learn and grow
from experiences presented to me. I have been
able to practice my public speaking a lot more
lately, now that I am hosting many events
around the college to promote and discuss our
new club with students.
10. Woman’s Opportunity Award Essay Winner 2010
I have had many obstacles to overcome being a single
mother. The choice for me to go to college and to better
myself for my daughter and I was a choice that will always
make me most proud. I won the Woman’s Opportunity
Award from Soroptimist International by submitting an essay
that showed my tenacity and drive to make choices as those
I did in hope to inspire young women who may feel they are
not able to accomplish the same because of lack of support
and let them see that anything is possible. There are many
support nets out there to be accessed, sometimes all we
need is a push from someone we look up to.
